Query About French Accents

Hi,
I have a problem when I coding my application by using VB 6.0.
In my database(Table) containing a column "City"(some cities are French such as MontrÚal...), so when I query for city in Montral in my form, I get nothing. However, if I query in MontrÚal, I can get the correct result. The Ú symbol works(that's ALT + 0218)as the keyboard translator to get the right data.
How do I incorporate the code page switching so my programs will work?
Thank you very much

Windows XP && Codepage && French Accents
Hi High Hands,
I have a question(or problem, I posted the same kind of msg before):
I am using WindowsXP operating System & VB6, when I download a database from internet, some city's names(French accents) have been changed, like Montréal changed to MontrΘal, Québec changed to QuΘbec, when I use VB app. to list these city's names, they changed to MontrTal and QuTbec, actually I don't want to write a VB program to deal it, because I don't know which city is French Accents Name?
I remember In Windows NT operating system, we can write Codepage in C:Config.sys file, to deal with multi-languages, but I don't know how to do it in Windows XP?
Anyone have idea?
Thanks.

XML Accents && Special Characters
I create a XML file by coding ,which encoding is "ISO-8859-1",when I try to Load it, an error: An invalid character was found in text content, appears.
I read that the reason for that are characters with ASCII greater than 128, thease are Accents & Special Characters.
Some of them I replaced with their not accented equivalents,but with the others....????
Do you know how to get out of that problem?

Ignore Accents In A Search
I am working with a wine database including a lot of accented characters (, , , etc.).

Most people do not know how to enter accented characters, so I want to be able to find "ros" even if the user types "rose" (or "ros for that matter).

I am thinking about replacing each character whose ACSII code is above 122 in the Search string by a ? (ros >>> ros?), then using a LIKE search.

Does anyone knows of a built-in function or of an easier way to do what I need?

Thanks!

DHTML Ocx Messup Accents

Problem With Accents With OleDB And ClientAccess
Hi,

I wrote a VB.net software connected to an AS/400 database with IBM Client Access and OleDB.

Here is my code with the connection string:

....
Dim newCommand As New OleDb.OleDbCommand()
If myConnection Is Nothing Then
myConnection = New OleDb.OleDbConnection()
myConnection.ConnectionString = "Provider=IBMDA400.DataSource.1;Password=XXXX;User ID=XXXX;Data Source=XXXX;Transport Product=Client Access;SSL=DEFAULT"
myConnection.Open()
end if
newCommand.Connection = myConnection
newCommand.CommandText = "[My SQL query]"

I can access the database without any problem but if i put an accent in a string (é, à, ... for example) in an INSERT query, I have a strange character instead

For example, [My SQL query]=insert into PP3PD.RCATB (RCNOIN,RCPNIN) values ('Dupond','Frédéric')
instead of accents on 'Frédéric' I have something like 'Fr■d■ric'
I think it does not come from my connectionstring defined in ClientAccess because if I use As400 Operation navigator to run the same query, it works fine!
I guess perhaps I have to add something to the connection string...
I have also checked in the registry in Client Access parameters that HOST_CCSID is set to 297 that is the french character page

If you have nay idea, that would be great!

Thank you

Yannick

VBA Excel - The French Connection
Here's one for the group.

I have an excel file with VBA code which I use at home and at work. Written using Excel 97 VBA. I have tried this on lots of systems and never have trouble with the VBA. I have tested this on Excel 97, 2000 and XP, and great in Windows 98, 2000 and XP.

I have just lent a copy of this to a friend in Quebec. Turns out he is using a french version of Windows 98 and a french version of Excel (version 9.0).

When opening the file he got an error message saying the VBA could not be read due to language it was written in.

I always thought Visual Basic and VBA were universal. Anyone have any comments or thoughts to pass along on this one?

Also begs the question that for me to get my file to work on his system, do I have to write it (at least the VBA code) in a french version? Or is there something he can install on his system to get around this?

Thanks.

The French Man Needs Your Knowledge About Richtextbox
Hi,

In the project that I do, I have to enable the user to move the richtextbox that he created. So I put the event "text.move" on mouse move but it just moves a shape and the richtextbox still sticks on the form.
And about resizing it, in fact I would like that when the user adds some text in the richtextbox, the box be automatically resized with the right height and width to display all the words.

Thanks for your answer.

I assume you are finding the hWnd and using SetParent
--------------

Yes. Using Shell instead of ShellExecute. Saw another Shell implementation
(as I recall using CreateProcess) so will try and fine and give it a go.

However, I tried with another VB created exe (just a form compiled to exe)
and ran into same issue.
My guess is that VB runtime files are issue.

If not above, what other info you need?

Thanks

French Characters On A Chinese Machine
Hello.
We have an application that teaches French.

Running on Chinese windows, anytime a French character comes up on the screen such as or (all valid ASCII characters), chinese characters come up in their place.

So instead of seeing "frre", the person sees "fr[chinese character]e" where [chinese character] would of course be a Chinese character which I can't draw here.

Any ideas how to solve this?

After all, if I says label.caption="frre" and all the characters are in the ASCII set, then it would be expected that the word "frre" appears on the screen.

Any help would be appreciated.

Making A French Verb Conjugator
Hello,

my purpose is to create a program that automatically conjugates french verbs with info from a database.
I have done this for German Verbs already (only 2 tenses though...), and made an exercice program for it (because of my 3.5/15 for German verbs ).
Now I think it is very handy, and I would like to have a program like that for my French Verbs too.
Only... i don't see a good start in designing the database.
Any help is appreciated!

Hope anyone has ideas

Comparing English & French Text
I am coding an application that connects to 2 Oracle databases. I need to compare addresses in the two databases to verify a match. The data in db1 is entered in uppercase english only. The data in db2 is in mixed case with french accents but the spelling itself is the same with the eception of the accents. Is there a way in VB to ignore the accents when comparing but still match the spelling exactly?? The Uppercase/ mixed case is not a problem as I have already fixed that.

ISAM 3170 Error. French Windows
I am running a simple program (part of a larger project) that uses the Access 2000 control to access an Access 2K mdb file. Worked fine with Access 97 control against an Acces 97 mdb file. All the program should do is start, read user name from the mdb file and display it. It run's fine on Windows 2000 French edition but when I install Office 2000 french standard Edition I get a 3170 "Could not find installable ISAM" error. We have tried almost everthing to get this working without success. It is only the configuration with Win2K French and Office 2K french standard edition that my program fails. We have upgrade and downgraded the Jet drivers, ODBC dirvers, MDAC. Replaced every dll in the package including dao360.dll. Uninstalled Office 2000, reinstalled Ofiice 2K, Added Access 2K. There doesn't seem to be any way around this error. Please help if you have seen this problem.

Excel French Date Format Function
Does anybody know how I could return a string from an Excel VBA function where part of the string is superscripted?

I am using Excel 97 to print some forms. The forms are in both english and french. I have written a VBA function to convert a date to a french date (e.g. 20 juin 2000). The function works fine, except I'd like to superscript the "er" in "1er Janvier 2000".

For example, if myDate = Jan 1, 2000, then

= French_Date(myDate)

Here is my VBA French_Date function:

Function French_Date(ByVal dtEnglish As Date) As String

Dim iDay As Integer
Dim iMonth As Integer
Dim iYear As Integer

Dim strReturn As String, strMonth As String

iDay = Day(dtEnglish)
iMonth = Month(dtEnglish)
iYear = Year(dtEnglish)

Select Case iMonth
Case 1
strMonth = "janvier"
Case 2
strMonth = "fvrier"
Case 3
strMonth = "mars"
Case 4
strMonth = "avril"
Case 5
strMonth = "mai"
Case 6
strMonth = "juin"
Case 7
strMonth = "juillet"
Case 8
strMonth = "aot"
Case 9
strMonth = "septembre"
Case 10
strMonth = "octobre"
Case 11
strMonth = "novembre"
Case 12
strMonth = "dcembre"
End Select

If iDay = 1 Then
strReturn = "1er" & Space(1) & strMonth & Space(1) & Trim(iYear)
Else
strReturn = Trim(iDay) & Space(1) & strMonth & Space(1) & Trim(iYear)
End If

French_Date = strReturn

End Function

I have searched and searched, but there is no way to superscript the "er".

If I manually typed in "1er Janvier 2000" into a cell, I could for example do this in VBA code:

Sub test
Worksheets("Worksheet 1").Range("A1").Characters(2, 2).Font.Superscript = True
End Sub

Works fine for cells where you type in the value but the above code don't work on cells where the value is returned from a function.

Any help would be appreciated.

Easy Challenge: SendKeys %4 On French Keyboard
Hello,
I have written an application that is being used in France and it is using the SendKeys function. It works fine with everything that I am doing except when I try to send an alt 4 combination. It works fine with a US keyboard but I can't seem to get it to work on the French keyboard.

Any Ideas?

Sending French Characters To Open Text Box

Reading French Characters From Txt Files To Strings
I have created a simple program that reads text data in .txt files into strings/arrays and then displays it. However, the program ignores all the French characters with accents. For instance, the word pre would read into a string as pre.

I know one way to avoid this problem is to resave the .txt files with UTF-8 encoding. But I do not want to go through each of the 600+ files and resave it with UTF-8. Any help on this would be appreciated.

VB6 On French Computers - Character Size Problem
I have a VB6 application running on a French computer using Windows ME. The
app doesn't work the same way as it does when running on an English Windows
OS.

The main issue I have, that I can't seem to overcome, is that the english
text font size my program thinks is available doesn't seem to be there.
Although a line of text printed on a US Windows machine looks fine, when it
is printed from this French computer the tabs are over written in the line
as if the font size was too big. However a reduction in the font size does
not correct the problem. The text lines are dropped down to the next line
when the numbers in my columns appear.

This looks like a situation where the French computer thinks the fonts are
smaller than they really are.

This happens both on printer and screen output.

Anyone had experience solving a similar problem?

Thanks

Error Crash In KERNEL32.DLL On French Windows ME Systems
Anyone else have problems with MCHOOK.DLL when installing a package created with the P&D Wizard? The package was created on a windows2000 pro machine and I get this error only when installing on a WinME system. Furthermore when the setup program ends due to the crash, an error is thrown in KERNEL32 and locks up windows. However, the program did indeed install and you can run it fine -- execept when you close it then the same KERNEL32 error occurs.

I have a windowsME system here at the office and when I tried to install everything worked fine - although VB6 was already installed on this machine.

Wierd error I have searched Google, VBCity, and MSDN knowledge base and there is no trace of it. I have a few ideas on why its happening:

1) the entire setup program was copied halfway around the world via VPN tunnel - possibly corrupting a file
2) the files copied from the win2000 system for use in the setup are incompatible with windows ME unless VB6 is installed

Anyone have anything to add to this?

VB 6 Application Running On French Windows With English SQL 2000 Server
Hi, all,

I have this VB 6 application developed on English Windows 2000. It runs
against an English SQL 2000 server. When the application is installed on
a French Windows XP, I have an ODBC problem. The application is doing a
date search and the error message says "[ODBC Server Driver][SQL Server]
Syntax
error converting datetime from character string.." I figure it is
because the SQL server does not recognize the French date string but how
do I resolve this problem?

Thanks!

Accepting English Format Date On Systems With French Regional Settings
This code gives me a type mismatch when I set my regional settings to French:

Dim TheDate as Date
TheDate = "Feb-10-04 20:28:24"

How can I convert "Feb-10-04 20:28:24" for a format that will be accepted under all regional settings?

I could use Replace with each month abberiation (Jan, Feb, etc...) but is there a better way?

Thanks

Crystal Reports && Dynamic Query (even Tables And Fields Changes In The Query At Run Time)

Hi there!

I need to link the crystal report to a query that is generated dynamically. I will be knowing about which table to be linked and which fields to be retrieved at run time only. Fields are refered using an alias in all the query output to get a common name for all. I cant use a dataset or TFX file solution as mentioned earlier as i am not aware of the tables and fiels till runtime. Else i have to hardcode all the possible combinations in different tft file and link .

i tried with a temporarytable but that too doesnt seems to work.

Can anyone guide me of any simpler methode of doing this?

Public Property Let closedate(ByVal newclosedate As Date)
txtclosedate = newclosedate
End Property

Is the Tab affecting it if so where can I find a guide to sort this out- the KB is not that helpful.

Thanks

Frank
