Error Opening Database: Unspecified Error
VB Code:
Function Database_Load(iSQLString)    Dim oXMLHttp    Dim sXML    Dim URL    Dim aString    Open "C: est.txt" For Output As #15    'MsgBox ("Not Implemented yet")    aString = iSQLString                Set oXMLHttp = CreateObject("MSXML2.XMLHTTP")        URL = "http://localhost/default.asp"         oXMLHttp.Open "POST", URL, False    oXMLHttp.setRequestHeader "Content-type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"    oXMLHttp.send aString        If oXMLHttp.Status = 200 Then      sXML = oXMLHttp.responseText   ' Retrieve from serverB.      Print #15, sXML    End If        Set oXMLHttp = Nothing

The program loads the database to a local file on startup and works fine.
However when this function is called the second time, to do any SQL queries i always get an Error Opening DB: Unspecified error returned.

any ideas?

OPENING VISUAL BASIC 6.0 ERROR, DAO350.DLL, "Unexpected Error; Quitting"

I could really use some help. I am not the most knowledgable and would appreciate any guidance... I did a web search already at some sites including Microsoft, but I have not found a soultion yet.

Problem: CANNOT OPEN VISUAL BASIC 6.0; Says "Unexpected error; quitting"
OS: XP Media Center (although system info says XP Professional 5.1.2600 Service Pack2 Build 2600)
PC: Acer AspireE36
SW:Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Edition

1. Could not open visual basic 6.0. I got the an error that the DAO350.DLL could not be found.

2. So following some suggestions from the web:
a) Renamed old DAO350.DLL as DAO350.DLLOLD
b) I took this file from Visual Studio Disk 1 and copied it into the
C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedDAO
c) Regsvr32 "C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedDAODAO350.DLL"
d) Then I got a successful message that it registered
e) It did not work. When I tried to open the visual basic 6.0 now I get:
"Unexpected error; quitting" message.

I even loaded the component checker 2.0 as suggest via microsoft website to look up the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC).
(see Article ID: 304230 and 301202 on and htpp://

It says MDAC 2.8 SP1 ON WINDOWS XP SP2. I am not sure what this MDAC does for me, but I looked at it anyways.

Error Opening .vbp
I am trying to open a .vbp that I recently had no problems with. The project is sitting on a Network drive, yet I get the following error while trying to run the .vbp:
Could not create reference: 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio\VB98DATAVIEW.DLL'
C: is of course my hard drive. I can actually say OK and the project opens, and can be run. Have yet to find where any problems occur from this error.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Error When Opening EXE?
When I go to FIle>Make EXE, it seems to work fine, but when I try to run the EXE I get thsi error:

"The procedure entry point InitializeCriticalSection X could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.DLL."

I have absolutely no idea what the error means or why its showing up. When I run the program in VB it works fine.

Any ideas?

Error Opening Com Port
Application: Controlling two LCD projectors through a serial interface. Each projector has a dedicated serial link, therefore two Com ports are used.

The MSCOMM control is used to interface with the available Com ports. The code includes a generic error trap: when the PORTOPEN property is set to TRUE, any error generated when the program attempted to open the Com port will trigger a message box informing the user that an error was encountered.

This program works on my laptop, using a 4-port USB-serial converter box made by Keyspan.

Using the VB6 package and deployment wizard, I installed this program on a desktop computer (Windows XP) equipped with a pair of USB-Serial adapter cables (manufacturer = ??). Running the program on the desktop computer, I get the message boxes from the program error trap indicating that the program was unable to open the Com ports.

I checked the port number assignments from the computer 'control panel' - 'system' - 'device manager', and I believe that my code is set to open the ports as they are assigned.

--> Any suggestions on what the problem might be, or how to troubleshoot further, whould be greatly appreciated.

List Box Error + Opening DB Through VB
Im posting 2 questions here, the first being a follow up from a previous thread.

I have a table called tbl course. I want am trying to enter all course names into a list box and then when the course is lciked, all its relevant information is shown in text boxes. I was instructed to use this way but am getting an error.

Dim conn As New ADODB.Connection
Dim rs As New ADODB.Recordset
Dim rs2 As New ADODB.Recordset
Dim sql As String
Dim sql2 As String

Private Sub Form_Load()
'Creating link to databse
Set conn = New ADODB.Connection
conn = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & App.Path & "system.mdb"

Set rs = New ADODB.Recordset

'sql string
sql = "SELECT * FROM tblcourse"

'put data into recordset
rs.Open sql, conn, adOpenDynamic, adLockBatchOptimistic

Do Until rs.EOF
lstcourses.AddItem rs!course_name

'second recordset
Set rs2 = New ADODB.Recordset

lstcourses.ListIndex = 0
'second sql statement
sql2 = "SELECT * FROM tblcourse WHERE course_id = '" & lstcourses.Text & "'"

rs2.Open sql2, conn, adOpenDynamic, adLockOptimistic

txtcoursename = rs2!course_name

End Sub

It says somthing about EOF or BOF is true and it needs a record. there are definantly records in the databse. This line is being highlighted.
txtcoursename = rs2!course_name

How can i correct this or use an alternate method(whichevers easier)

And my second question, how can i simply open my databse through VB?

thanks alot

Opening Database Error

i am trying to connect to my database but because i am working on my project at home and work i want it to find the database so i dont have to keep changing the drive letter myself. i was told that App.path will do this but when i try to run it the following error occurs:

"cannot start your application. the workgroup information file is missing
or opened by another user"

ive looked this error up and it seems to have something to do with a user name and password for the database but it does not have one on it, ive tried putting User ID=Admin into the code below but the same error occurs.

Dim cn As ADODB.Connection
Dim rs As ADODB.Recordset
Set cn = New ADODB.Connection .
cn.ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;;Data Source=" & App.Path & "Reports9-2003.mdb;Persist Security Info=False"
Set rs = New ADODB.Recordset
rs.Open "year9", cn, adOpenKeyset, adLockPessimistic, adCmdTable

does anyone know what i can do??
thanks in advance

Error Opening A Form
Here is the problem I am having. I have a MDI,when the user clicks a command button returning the
user to the application main form they get an error that reads:

Common Language Runtime Debugging services.
Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.

Process ID = 0x2a0(672) Thread ID = 0x6ec(1772)

When the user clicks ok the application ends.

Here is part of my problem. This only happens randomly maybe one time in 50 to 100 times on going from
one form to the main form, also I have not been able to duplicate this error in the development environment. It only
seems to happen when an exe is deployed to a user machine.

Here is the code that is being used in a form to take the user the the main form

Private Sub btnHome_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdHome.Click
Dim cmdBuilder As New SqlCommandBuilder(adpRelease)

End Sub

Protected Overrides Sub OnClosing(ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs)
Dim frmMain As New frmMain()
End Sub

Thanks for any help any one can give me,

Error Msg When Opening Links
I have a spreadsheet with links to photos on my hard disk. When I click the link, I get this:
Opening D:Photosinterim404.tif

Some files can contain viruses or otherwise be harmful to your computer.
It is important to be certain that this file is from a trustworthy source

Would you like to open this file?

Since these files are on my own disk and I put them there, I am not worried that they might contain viruses. I set the security to "low". And I went through the Tools>Options. But I cannot find a way to get rid of this annoying popup.

Critical Error Opening Workbook
I am using VB6 to work with the Excel object. This works on all but one of my associates computers. The symptom is that the create object Excel works, but the ExcelApplication.Workbooks.Open fn fails and displays that wonderful 'want to send a message to micro..' It leaves Excel open so I just go to file and open the workbook but obviously my app is gone. It appears to me that there is some sort of permission that needs to be granted, but I am at a loss. It is Norton virusscan. This also happens with Word. Any ideas? Thanks.

ACC 2000: Error When Opening Report

I have got a report in MS Access 2000, which is based on a query. When I open the report from design mode using the preview button or when I open it by doubleclicking the report I get the following error:

An error occurred while sending data to the OLE Server (the application used to create the object).

However when I am in desing mode and I go to the Graph that is located on the report and view the recordsource, close the recordsource and preview the report everything works fine, no error messages.

I know that MS Access has it's "problems" but this is at least weird. I tried debugging by using breakpoints and the "break on all errors" option but all to no avail.

If there is anyone that can help me, it is greatly appreciated.

Error When Opening Excel File
I have two problems.
1. I am trying to read an excel file from my VB.NET application. In debug mode from visual studio, I am able to open it without any problems. But when i execute the exe of my application independently, I get the exception 'File or assembly name Interop.Excel, or one its dependencies, was not found'. What am I missing here?

2.I am also not very much aware of distributing applications. Right now I just copy the exe file in objDebug and try to run it. How am I supposed to package and distribute my application? Will it be enough if I just distribute the exe file mentioned above?

Could anyone guide me on this.
Thanks in advance,

Strange Error On Opening A Recordset On Different OS

I have the problem that a VB application I wrote on Win2k doesn't run on Win98, bringing the bug (manually translated into english) "Choosen sort order is not supported by operation system". (&h80040005) The problem appears on a view in MS Access. There is no sort order in it, neither in the view itself nor in the open statement. I can open the view with MS Access, and if I start the application from inside VB the error don't occur. All drivers ar up to date (ADO 2.7, VB SP5). What may be cause for that error or how can I solve it?

Run Time Error When Opening Excel
I'm working my way through Si's "Automating Excel Tutorial" and the early binding code is throwing a Run Time Error "Method 'Add' of objects 'Workbooks' failed". My OS is XP and I'm using Office97 with Excel8.0 from the Reference Library. It runs fine if I use On Error Resume Next but I don't like masking errors. Anyone have a clue?
Btw, the Task Mgr shows Excel running when I run the code?

Option Explicit
Dim oXLApp As Excel.Application
Dim oXLBook As Excel.Workbook

Private Sub Command1_Click()
Set oXLApp = New Excel.Application
' On Error Resume Next
Set oXLBook = oXLApp.Workbooks.Add ' Throws error here!
oXLApp.Visible = True
Set oXLBook = Nothing
Set oXLApp = Nothing
End Sub
