VBA - Picking Up Changes To A Sheet - Worksheet_Change && Worksheet_Calculate

Apologies if this has been asked before (I've tried searching - but not successfully)

I want to able to run a macro every time certain areas of a sheet update.

At present I'm using the worksheet_change property then using intersect to check whether the change occurs in the relevant areas.

However I'm having problems where these areas contain formulas to different areas outside the areas I'm checking (both on the same sheet and other sheets in the same book).

I've looked at the worksheet_calculate function but I'm not sure if it will work for me. I'm not sure how I'd be able to tell whether the relevant areas have changed or not (I don't think I'd be able to use intersect here??).

Any help would be much appreciated!

He's got a spreadsheet and is using some code which updates column A
when cell E4 changes to a different value as a result of a calculation.

I've uploaded the spreadsheet to btintra.test with a subject of "Excel
test" and what he wants to do is this -
If you type something into H4 it updates E4
Type something different into H4 then E4 will change and as a result an
entry will be made in A2. What he wants is when A2 gets updated, for B2
to take on the value of F4, and C2 to be updated with the time.
Likewise when something different is entered into H4, then E4 will
change and an entry will then be made in A3. He wants B3 to take on the
value of F4, and C3 to be updated with the time.
And so on for A4.......

Can this be done? Any help would be much appreciated.

StandAlone Visual Basic To Catch Worksheet_Calculate() Event
Hi, I am generating Excel with constantly refreshing data. Is there any way I can check if all data was refreshed?
Since I use formulas I was thinking to use Worsheet_Calculate() and then check cell by cell, but apprarently I think I can only do it form VBA, which is not an option. Is there a way? Thanks.

Worksheet_Change Event Please Can You Help Me
Question 1
The code below does exactly what I want it to do when using it on the same sheet.
i.e. If a number greater than zero is entered into cell B5 on the current sheet (sheet1), the word “Red” will be entered into cell E7 on the current sheet (sheet1).
Does anyone know how to modify this so that “Red” is entered into cell E7 on sheet2 (same workbook)?

If a number > 0 is entered into cell E2, enter the word “Green” into cell E7

Question 3
When I put two Worksheet_Change macros on the same sheet the following message appears when I try to run either one of them: “Compile error: Ambiguous name detected: Worksheet_Change”. But they both work fine when stored/run on their own. Is it not possible to have more than one Worksheet_Change event on one sheet?

DLL - Worksheet_Change Event?
I have an application in excel that receives data from a non Visual basic application using dde.
The outsite application sends data to a number of cells in a worksheet.
I had expected the worksheet_change event to be raised when the data in the cells change, but apparently it is not the case.

Is there a way to trap the DDE data change so I can notify my application that the data has changed?

Any help or comments would be appreciated.


Use Worksheet_change For Errorchecking
I have a worksheet that is protected, so to be sure that the user won't get nasty errors from excel, I want to show one from myself. Since I have a lot of commandbuttons and other stuff, I want to use the worksheet_change to check for errors. This is how it looks:

but apparently, it will never show the error message because worksheet_change never gets the error. It will show "did I pass the test?" and next a nasty excel error. If I change exit sub (where the arrow points) to end, I won't get any errors, nor a nasty one, nor mine. So how can I fix this?

Questions Concerning Worksheet_Change

I've got two questions concerning the Worksheet_Change eventhandler:
1) is it possible to determine which event caused the worksheet_change to run (like: delete, add,...)
2) is it possible to make 'add comment' / 'delete comment' / 'edit comment text' an event that raises worksheet_change?


Using Event Worksheet_change
I am using the event Worksheet_Change to trigger a macro when a value is enter in a range of cells (column J).

How can I run a different macro when a value is entered in a different column (column B).



Worksheet_Change And Lists
I've used the Data Validation to build a pick list of valid entries for a cell.

When I use the pick list though I can't get the Worksheet_Change macro to run even though the entry in the cell is changing.

The macro runs if I type in a valid entry. If I type in a invalid entry and hit cancel when the error comes the macro runs twice.

But if I use the pick list drop down box it doesn't run.

Can anybody suggest anything I'm missing?

Worksheet_Change In Excel 97 && 2000
I have a Worksheet_Change macro that works fine in Excel 2002, but my client is using Excel 2000 and nothing happens for him when he changes the appropriate cell. I do not have access to Excel 97 or 2000 and several searches haven't helped. Any suggestions on how to track down the error?

Drop Down List And Worksheet_change Bug?
I'm having a problem and it's to do with worksheets_change and data validation. I know there was a bug in older versions of xl but I'm using 2003 and the problem there (from my reading) was that it wasn't recognising changes to lists as changes to the worksheet.
Anyway the problem is that I want to show and hide rows in a sheet depending on the value selected from a dropdown box. What I've done is as follows:

It recognises (when the list is changed) that there has been a change in the worksheet, kicking off the sub, but it doesn't actually do the hide/unhide.

Anyone got any ideas?


Worksheet_Change Event Fires Too Often
I've got a spreadsheet with a list of symbols and a list of stock prices that I'm calling from a market data server. I'd like to have the user be ablt to type a symbol in a specified "Symbol" Range and then have the sheet run a new request to the server, instead of haveing him click a command button. Is there any way to do this? The Worksheet_Change event fires every time a stock price changes, so with a hundred stock, it fires so often that te sheet "blinks." every half-second or so, was wondering if there's any work-around. If anyone kows, greatly appreciated. Just courious about the way ekeyboard events work in excel...

Worksheet_change, Running Totals
I am a novice at VB and I have a customer that has an Excel file linked to another program which continuosly feeds updated data to "sheet1,f11" for example

When the data on "sheet1" changes, he wants to display the cell value on "sheet2,a1". For subsequent changes, he wants "sheet2" to retain the previous value in cell "a1" put the new value in "a2" and then display a cumulative total below it in "a3" and so forth... new value in "a3", running total in "a4"... So the cumulative total always moves down a cell and all historical values are retained.

I've been able to figure out moving the data over to "sheet2" with something to the effect:

Worksheet_change With External Source
I want to work with worksheet_change:

The only problem is that the trigger that causes a change in one of the cells in the worksheet, is an external source. And because of that reason the worksheet_change event is not activated. Does anyone have a solution or is familiair with this problem?

Data Validation And Worksheet_change
I have a macro that operates through Worksheet_Change. However, when I change a cell via a data validation drop-down box, this macro is never called. When I change the cell value by hand, the macro is called correctly. How can I run this macro when I change this value via the drop-down box?

Worksheet_Change Running For Every Cell On Open.
When opening the file, the worksheet change runs for every cell. But it does not use the saved values in the worksheet, it runs while the values are empty. I have a function that clears a few things if the used deletes the value in certain cells. Each time I re-open the file, these values are being reset.

Is there a way to know if this is "onOpen" or some other way to stop this???

Excel Screen Locking Up When Pasting Due To Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Hello all
           I have got a problem which I think is due to Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range).

The project I am working on has 1 worksheet which contains the master data and 4 other worksheets which shows different selections of the data contained with in the master.

To show the selection of data I am using an IF statement, range F2 is my Target As Range so if range F2 = ATBS it shows one set of data if F2 = CBCC it shows a different set of data. Once the data has been shown the macro hides all the rows containing 0.

The problem I am getting is when I want to past some information onto the worksheet with the Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range), The info will past onto the worksheet but the screen locks up after the info appears on the worksheet. The only way of exiting is to ctr,alt & delete task manager end task, I can save the workbook. When I go to recover the workbook it reports no errors to be repaired. I can " ' " the code out and the past function works fine.

Picking Out Checkboxes
I have a bunch of checkboxes, they are either 0 or 1. Anyway I can get VB to pick out all the ones that are 0 and get then each display an unique message in a list. With no empty lines inbetween. Anyone know?

DB Combo Not Picking Up Changes
(using VB 6 SP6)

I have three DB combos that have change activations on them. effectively you select a system then a magazine, then an issue. On change of system the magazine list changes, on change of magazine the issue list changes - pretty much a standard 3-level hierachy.

The problem I am having is this. The code below shows 3 variables being assigned to the boundtext properties of the combos (which should activate the on_change code). The code below doesnt activate the on change code.

if I change this to have literals like this:

the above code DOES activate the on change code.

if I put a break point just after the first example and look at the contents of the variables sSystem, sMagRef and sIssueRef they have valid values, but if I mouseover the combo fields, they all show "" as their value (this explains why the on change code isnt activated, but why does an assignment using variables not work, whereas assigning literals does. it doesnt make sense to me.

Has anyone seen this behaviour before? If So, please help. many thanks

Picking Up Colours
I'm trying to scan sections of a picture (within a picturebox), pixel by pixel, so as to reconstruct it elsewhere. So far I've tried to use point to pick up the colour, but the results are less than reliable.

Have I misunderstood the use of this method, or is there an easier way to turn a long integer into an RGB value (like CC9966) than arithmetic and conversions? Surely there should be an inverse of the RGB function.

JPEGs work best so far. Can anyone help with the way point works on different formats?


Rules For Picking Out A URL?
I want to be able to scan a string and pick out any URLs that a user might have typed in, but I'm struggling to come up with a set of rules for figuring out where a URL starts and ends.

For example, what characters are allowed within a URL, and what can it start and end with? (Eg. brackets, periods, commas, apostrophes, exclamations, questionmarks and so on). Do URLs always start with either "http" or "www" ("http" includes "https" and so on), or are there other possibilities? And a URL can end with a forwardslash, but what about any other symbols?

Picking Excel Sheets In VB
Is there a way in VB to let the end user pick what workbook and worksheet they are working with, and is there a way to make that file be the default the next time the application is run? I would like to have a text box or label with a "browse" button next to it like in a lot of windows apps. Also, is there a way to make it so that when my loop is finished running the active cell is always "A"? And one last question, what code do I use so the workbook is saved when VB is exited? Thanks for your help.

How can I have a Macro prompt the user for a value that is part of a dropdown list and make the macro pause at that cell until selection is made. I'm trying to "Step" the user through a form.

Picking From A Treeview At Random
Sorry if this has been answered b4, nothing came up in my searches.

I have a treeview in my app that has 4 nodes and a bunch of children under each node. None of those children have children, so its just 2 levels. What I need to do is be able to have the program randomly pick a child and get its text and key.

Picking Out A Word From A Textbox

I was just wandering if anyone knows some code that pics out a word from a text box. For example, a way of picking out the first word written in a textbox. I like to be able to change the word that i want to pick out, eg. the fifth or tenth word that has be typed in a textbox. I would also like the selected word to be placed in say another textbox.

Picking Up A Part From A String
I have this "C: estmusicsong1.mp3"
I want to isolate "song1.mp3". E.g. by clicking a commandbutton "song1.mp3" appears in a textbox.

Recordset Picking Up Man Of The Same Record
This one really baffles me. I have a Select statement that should only pick up about 13 records. When I move through the record set it appears the record count is in the thousands because it has thousands of duplicate records. Below is the code that I am using. YMD1 = 20030103 and YMD2 = 20031114 . Even if it when back to the 1980 there would still be less than 300 holidays and vacation days combined for one employee. I can see the same record being process while stepping into the code. I also see that the record is different when it gets to 10000 and the subcript runs out of range.

Picking Only Numbers Within A String
Hello ..

I need to know if there is function, routine that I can use to separate numbers from a string.

Example :

GL005 --> 005
I Eat 5 Bowl --> 5
SAW4 --> 4

I thought I could use VAL() but it didn't work. As I flipped thru MSDN book, I found out that VAL stop at first non-numbers that it found. Tough luck.

Picking Elements From A Listview

I am passing a variable "Id" from from the "Update” Hyperlink on TestTexas_V2.asp to Change_Weight.asp. That is functioning as designed.

On Change_Weight.asp Iam attepting to capture the variable "weight" from a text input box and use it as a variable in an Update string. . Now the problem I am using the following code:

The code doesn't recognize the input from the text box and updates the database with a null value (or “”). I have tried putting a value for weight in the Update string and the Update works. How can I have the code recognize the value put into the text box it in the Update string.

I need to develop an application in which the data will be in the form of Faxes... ie., the data is on the paper (Fax). The user does not want to do any data entry to the application rather he wants the application to pick up this data (on the Fax Papers) automatically and save in the database.

How to achieve this?

Randomly Picking Numbers, But Only Once
Hi, Ill be quick, as i start work in 2 hours (& I need to do this program for school )

I need to know how to;

Randomly pick a number between 0 & 52, repeatedly (More than once) Howver, until the program is reset (By pressing a button) the same number cant come up more than once.

So does anyone have any idea how to go about this?

Picking Up Currently Logged In User Name With VBA
I need a way to pick up the name the currently logged in user. The OS is windows NT 4 and the code will form part of an Excel module. It doesn't matter where the name comes from, if someone has a way of extracting the information from the registry I can adapt the code to suite my system. Thanks in advance.
