VBA Outlook Open Mailitem

Hi in the oultook visual basic help I found this by open mailitem

Function Item_Open()
If Item.Unread = False Then
myMsg = "Do you want to open this message again?"
If MsgBox myMsg,4) = 6 Then
Item_Open = True
Item_Open = False
End If
End If
End Function

Because this is VBscript and I want to use VBA I edited the code to this

Private Sub Application_Startup()
End Sub

Sub Item_Open()
Dim test
Dim outMailItem As MailItem
Set outMailItem = Application.ActiveExplorer.Selection
If outMailItem.UnRead = False Then
myMsg = "Do you want to open this message again?"
If MsgBox(myMsg, 4) = 6 Then
test = True
test = False
End If
End If
End Sub

On the line
Set outMailItem = Application.ActiveExplorer.Selection

I get error 13: Types do not compare.

Can anyone tell me why?

Set outMailItem = Application.Activeinspector.currentitem gives

Error 91

Open Outlook MailItem Using Email Template
I have found I think all I need to open a new email message in Outlook but I would like it to open using a template we have created.

Any help on this?

COM Add-in Outlook New Mailitem
I would like to add a new button to the standard button bar of the current mailitem. Essentially, I would like to make a duplicate of the Insert File Icon (paperclip icon) so I can add a file encryption function to this button. I already have the encryption part done, I just don't know how to add the button to the new mail message form.

Outlook VBA Forward Mailitem

I want to do the following:
1. I klick onto a mail in my inbox to select it.
2. I run a sub routine to automatically do two things:
2a) Add a sentence to the mailbody
2b) Forward the mail to two usergroups.

I have the following:

Sub ReplyITT()

Dim mynamespace As NameSpace
Dim myforward As MailItem
Dim myfolder

Set mynamespace = Application.GetNamespace("MAPI")
Set myfolder = mynamespace.GetDefaultFolder(6)

Set myforward = GetCurrentItem()

myforward.Body = "added Text to the mailbody" + vbCrLf + myforward.Body
myforward.Recipients.Add "verteiler - ith"
myforward.Recipients.Add "verteiler - itt"
myforward.Send '########## here I get the errormessage

End Sub

' Function GetCurrentItem() written by Buck Pavia (
Function GetCurrentItem() As Object
Dim objApp As Application
Dim objSel As Selection
Dim objItem As Object
Dim objmailItem As MailItem

Set objApp = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
Select Case objApp.ActiveWindow.Class
Case olExplorer
Set objSel = objApp.ActiveExplorer.Selection
If objSel.Count > 0 Then
Set objItem = objSel.Item(1)
Set objmailItem = objSel.Item(1)
End If
Case olInspector
Set objItem = objApp.ActiveInspector.CurrentItem
Set objmailItem = objApp.ActiveInspector.CurrentItem
Case Else
' can't handle any other kind of window
End Select

'Set GetCurrentItem = objItem
Set GetCurrentItem = objmailItem

Set objItem = Nothing
Set objSel = Nothing
Set objApp = Nothing
Set objmailItem = Nothing

End Function

I call the ReplyITT which is located behind a button after I selected the mail.

And then I get an error message like :

Runtimeerror '-2114519035 (81f70005)':
You do not have the propper rights to send the message in the name of the provided user.
(well I get the error message in german: Sie besitzen nicht die Berechtigung, die Nachricht im auftrag des angegebenen Benutzers zu senden.)

If I manually forward the message, I have no problems with it.
If I change the ReplyITT a bit to simply use the first mail (it somehow only works with the first mail in the list and I have no chance to get the selected mail of my inbox) then it works too. If I have written the mail (for testing to myself) then too.
Just for the upper code and not myself written mails I get the error.

I would be happy if someone could have a look into it. I bet its just a tiny change that has to be done. I just dont know what.

Thanks a ton!

Write RTF To Outlook Mailitem
I am writing a COM addin for outlook.
It basically adds a few lines of formatted text to outgoing mailitems (like a signature).
I am using the ItemSend event of the Outlook application object to trap send messages.
I have no problems with HTML mail, I just append some html to the HTMLBody property of the mailitem.

The problem I have is with RTF or Plain text mail.

When I append the text to the Body property for plain text messages, the mailtype changes to RTF (probably because there is an url and an e-mail address in the text I append).

When I append the text to the Body property for RTF messages, the formatting of the message is lost. I also don't know how to format the text I need to append (set font information).

I haven't started with messages in Word format, so I don't know if I encounter problems with these kind of messages.

Any information is welcome.

Outlook MailItem Properties
Hi all,
Anyone can help me
I write a macro in MS Outlook and want to know if a mailItem has been replied/forwarded or not. In Outlook, we can see an icon and know the replied/forwarded status. But I dont know how to retrieve this status.

Outlook And MailItem Flags
Please can someone help with this problem... I have developed a COM-ADDIN for Outlook. In code I create a new Outlook MailItem, but do not send it anywhere. It is then placed in the sent items folder ( I know this sounds strange creating a mail item and not sending it, but there are reasons for this) The problems I am encountering are as follows. Once placed in the sent items folder the mail item is still bold, I do not want it to be bold, I have tried to set the UnRead flag but this has no effect. Aslo how do the DATE fileds get set, as they are all read only. I want the Sent Date property filled (even though the mail item has not been sent) how can I achieve this.

Outlook Save MailItem
My application uses MAPI control to create an email and save it as a draft in an outlook folder. The app has the ability to create multiple emails at runtime and save them all to a drafts folder. Here is my problem: When 1 email is created, the app works fine. When I create 2 or more, I continually get an error in the line below that I have highlighted with a *. I was thinking that I may need to clear the mailitem object - but either it doesn't do the trick or i do not clear it properly. Thank you.

Here is some code:

'emailItem is an array of objects that contains all necessary data
'to create an email
'ms is an outlook mailItem object
For i = 1 To UBound(emailItem)

    With MS
        .To = emailItem(i).getEmailAddress
        .CC = ""
        .BCC = ""
        .Subject = emailItem(i).getSubject
        .Body = emailItem(i).getBody
        .SentOnBehalfOfName = ""
 * .Save *
         'draftfolder is a user created drafts sub folder
        .Move draftFolder
    End With

Outlook: Saving A MailItem To A SubFolder
Having problems executing Email voting options.
I would like to save the email item in a sub folder so the voting responses will be posted in the same sub folder.

Have a look at my code to see what I'm doing wrong.

Sub Send_Package()

Set myOlApp = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
Set myItem = myOlApp.CreateItem(olMailItem)

Set myNS = myOlApp.GetNamespace("MAPI")
Set myfolder = myNS.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderInbox).Folders("MySubFolder")

With myItem
.To = ToAddress
.Importance = olImportanceHigh
.Subject = "Special Planning Package"
.VotingOptions = "Approve w/ Comments;Approve w/o Comments ;Reject"
.Body = "Please use the voting buttons to approve with or without comments"
.SaveSentMessageFolder = myfolder
End With

End Sub

Using The Send Event Of MailItem - MS Outlook
I have an Excel spreadsheet and I call up a new e-mail message from my code. I create the new message as follows.

' create a new instance of outlook as an application object
Set oOutlook = New Outlook.Application
' create a new e-mail object frm outlook
Set oEmail = oOutlook.CreateItem(olMailItem)
I then add my subject; recipient list etc. and display the e-mail.
However I need to perform some further actions depending on whether or not the user chooses to send this message.
I was hoping to use the Send Event of MailItem to do this and I declared the following.

Sub oEmail_Send(Cancel As Boolean)
End Sub
This is not working, can someone tell me why? The variable oEmail has module level visibility i.e. it's declared as private in the declarations section of the module.

How Do You Tell If An Outlook.MailItem Is A Read Receipt?
I have the following code:

For i = 1 To EmailFolder.Items.Count
Set oMailItem = EmailFolder.Items(i)

If oMailItem.Recipients.Count > 0 Then

Unfortunately, if the MailItem is a Read Receipt, and error is generated because a Read Receipt does not appear to use the Recipients property?

Any Idea how to check if an Outlook.MailItem is a Read Receipt?

Internet-headers From An Outlook Mailitem

I'm using Outlook to read a mailbox.
There's no problem there.

When you use Outlook and you really
open an e-mail in a new message window
you can go to "View" and then "Options"
to see the internet-headers for e-mails
send through the internet.

This is where my problem is, because I
would like to use some information in
these headers, but I'm unable to find
out how you can extract the headers
through VB.

Can anyone help me?

Outlook Mailitem With Mhtml As Body
I was wondering is it possible that you make an outlook mail item with mhtml as body with VBA?
I guess that mht file will have text and an image while the email should have both when sent.
Means simplified i need a code that will make the body with the content of the mhtml file.
Does it makes a sense to you? Sorry if not so. I am just a newbie in VBA lol

Pb With The Mailitem Object, For A Outlook Macro
Hi mates.
Well, this is my pb.
I have to make a macro to do the following things :
in the selected folder using Outlook, the macro must count the number of mails, and for each mail, analyse it in order to know, if this email has been read, forwarded, replied, or unread.

For the rest, I will know how to do it (to put the results in a file text).

I search in the help files of outlook, and I didnt find any result... I mean, it is possible to do a lot of things (mailItem.class, mailItem.send, or else), but not what Im searching.

Anybody could help me ???
My second pb would be to have the code, to use the "SELECTED" folder in outlook. Because currently, I have to give the complete address of the folder I want to analyse...

Thank you so much for your help.

Outlook Programming - MailItem.Body
I have a program that reads in every new email message and processes it.
My problem is that when I do a mail.Body each line is cropped at 72 characters and the rest is placed on the next line.
Because I'm trying to parse this as 1 logical line of information, my app is failing on all lines over 72 characters.

How do I force Outlook to give me the lines of text that I see in the outlook mailbox?

Thanks in advance,

Reference Problem With Outlook And MailItem
When an email is sent, a copy will be saved in PionUs, a system running here at this network, with all kinds of information.

The content of the mail is available and will be saved as soon as a mail is sent.
After the mail is sent, we want some more information like the date it was sent.

However, when the mail is sent, the reference to the MailItem is gone so required information cant be reached.

Private Sub Application_ItemSend(ByVal Item As Object, Cancel As Boolean)
Dim Store As Boolean
Dim prop As UserProperty

For Each prop In Item.UserProperties
If prop.Name = "Store" Then
Store = prop.Value
End If

If Store Then
SendMailToPionUs Item
End If
End Sub

The method below validates some things and sends the e-mail

Sub InspectorMailAndSendToPionUs()
Dim lvMail As MailItem
Dim lvSentMessageFolder As MAPIFolder

Set lvMail = ActiveInspector.CurrentItem
If Not (lvMail Is Nothing) Then
lvMail.UserProperties.Add("Store", olNumber, False) = 1
If Not (lvMail.Sent) Then
If lvMail.Recipients.Count = 0 Then
MsgBox "Geef een adres op waar het mailtje naartoe moet."
Exit Sub
End If

End If
End If
End Sub

When lvMail is sent, the reference to lvMail is gone…
Does anyone have an idea of a solution on how to fix this problem??

Greets, dip (sorry for my bad English)

Outlook MailItem.HTMLBody Problem
I am trying to load a msg file to outlook. I can load the html email(msg)
using CDO.Message, but can't pass a whole string to MailItem. I have some string
truncated after assigning iMSG.TextBody to objMail.HTMLBody.
Does anyone has a reason why this is happening?

Thanks for help.

Dim Stm As New Stream

Stm.LoadFromFile Path
Dim objMail as Outlook.MailItem
Dim iMsg As New CDO.Message
Dim iDsrc As IDataSource

Set iDsrc = iMsg
iDsrc.OpenObject Stm, "_Stream"
iMsg.MimeFormatted = True
iMsg.AutoGenerateTextBody = True
objMail.HTMLBody = iMsg.TextBody

NOT RESOLVED - DragDrop Mailitem From Outlook To My Application Form

I need to be able to drag a mailitem from microsoft outlook to a form in my app. When the dragdrop is done i need to save that message (or messages) to a .msg file in a directory on the fileserver. (and even mail-attachments if possible).

I've been searching the internet up and down but can't see any code that does this in vb6.

Opening A Mailitem In A Mailitem
Okay... let's try this again... I'm assuming I explained myself poorly last time, thus no replies.

How do I use vb objects (outlook namespace, mailitem and attachment) to open an attachment that is actually another mail item?

My outlook com object detects new mail. I have two kinds of mail coming in. If the mail has 2 attachments I know exactly what to do with it. If the mail has 1 attachment, it is the one with which I'm having difficulty. The attachment itself is another mail item. I want to open it, get its attachment (an html).

In my file clsDistribute, go to 'VB Help

I can send you an example of the email if you like...

Open Outlook .msg File

I asked this question before - but no luck.. so anyone up for a challenge have a look at this..

Is there any way to OPEN (not create) a .msg file using the outlook object library (or other method). The msg file is NOT in a outlook MAPI Folder such as the inbox.. instead it is on the hard drive.

A parser for .msg file formats would do either.

Thanks for your help

Get Mailadresses And Open Outlook
Hello all

I have looked far for this. I want to be able to open outlook (new mail) with a collection of emailadresses. These are stored on my sql server and should be sent as bcc.

I have no problems sending on the fly mail and using shellexecute, but this specific task i cannot find solutions for here.

What i want to do is :

R = ShellExecute(Me.hwnd, "Open", "mailto:?bcc=My email table, _
' vbNullString, App.Path, vbNormalFocus).

But thats too optimistic :-(

Please help.

Open Outlook From Access

I am looking to hold a distribution list in a table (of email address) then send out various access generated reports (probably via the snap shot viewer) using outlook.

1. How do I access outlook from Access, have seen other aps where you click a link and a mail message pops up allready addressed eyc.

2. Secondly, if I create all these snapshot reports and save them to file is there anyway to then attach them to Outlook mail messages, all based on information stored in Access tables.
(email address, who gets what reports etc)

Really need to automate this as there is about 190 odd users who all need various reports sent to them and so don't want to do this manually.

End If

Set oAEntries = Nothing
Set oAEntryFilter = Nothing

However the program keep on executing while outlook is running up and when it tries to get the outlook object - Set moApp = GetObject(, "Outlook.Application") - it says it isn't there. Is there anyway to stall the program so that it doesn't carry on unitl the outlook is fully open? I know you could use sleep, but is there a better way?

How To Open Mail From The Outlook

How do i open an outlook mail from my vb application. I want to read the mail and even check the attachments. I have my outlook box open on my system

Can anyone help me out in reading an outlook mail.

Open Outlook Attachment

I really don't know where to start on this, as I only have Excel/Access VBA knowledge, and would therefore really appreciate any help!

I would like to write some code that for an e-mail that I have selected (highlighted) in MS Outlook to open the attachement (will be either .pdf or .fax files (Adobe Acrobat or Faxmaker Fax Viewer)) and print it out, then close the attachement. If it is possible to mark the fax as viewed as well, then this would be beneficial.

I am aware that this has some security issues, but we have some fairly comprehensive Anti-virus software here, and this would be really beneficial.

Ultimately I would like to attach this to a button, and roll it out to other users.

Kind regards in advance
