VBScript To Access Task Manager List
I want to know if I can use vbScript to look at the task list of the Task Manager so I can search to see if a specific session of an emulator is running. Windows 2000 and XP
At my job we use an emulator to get on the iSeries. Each user has there own copy of the emulator and profile.ws. We would like to have the Emulator on are Network shared drive. The problem would be each session would load in as the same workstation. I wrote some vbscipt that gets there username of there network loggin creates new profile.ws that becomes there wokstation ID for the emulator. What i need now is one more step when a user launches an emulator it can check there task manager to see if any other sessions are running so the appropriate name can be used. exp. userID johnD and in the task manager of there computer has session A, session C. currently running then it is safe to start the next session with johnD2, becasue johnD1 and johnD3 are allready running.
This was my first post my appoligies if a got long winded any help would be appreciated.

Get Task Manager List
Does anyone know how to get the list of apps that
are shown in the task manager processes list?
Task Manager-like List Thing
Sorry I do not know the name of this, but does anyone know how to create one of those lists with several columns like the one they have in the task manager on 2000/XP?
Edit: Nevermind. I figured out how to make a listview (I know what it's called know!) by enabling the mscomctl.ocx file under project components, but I don't know how to make column headers, or how to manipulate data inside each column. The data that I need to add is NOT in a database. If anybody had any answers, they would be much appreciated.
Another question: How can you trigger certain events to happen when a different tab on the tabstrip is selected? Can you have it so that the display underneath the tabstrip changes after a tab is selected?

Hi, I'm working on a project to completely change the UI of windows using stardock programs, but some things cant be replaced by those. I want to make a talk manager with the look of Mac's "Force Quit" dialogue... but the functionality of the windows XP talk manager. App In Task Manager
i have an application that uses some api calls (like dialog boxes of font, printer, etc). my prob is that when i call any of the dialog boxes, then tried to exit my application.. my application remains in the task manager which seems to be my prob coz i should run only one instance of my app..
I have developed an application say it "Shop". and have other independant applications say "Inventory", "Finance","Stores","Office". Now according to the need of the customer, i need to install, the wanted modules. For that i've made independent setup programs for each. All the setups can only be initiated by the master setup "Shop".Now, when one setup is running, i don't want other to start, if its icon is clicked by user.
I know how to track which application is running, that has been started by my application "Shop".
But, if the setup of "Inventory", fires another setup for third party component after terminating itself, than that setup program which is running is not under my control.
Let me put it simply, "how can i can access the status of each application that is running on system."
Help With Task Manager
When my program gets closed via task manager, it freezes and somtimes locks up the entire computer, forcing you to head for the switch. I need to fix that, either by making it not show up in the task manager at all, or make it so when the task manager attempts to close it, the program detects that and gracefully closes on its own.
Does anyone know how in VB6 you can check to see if an app is running on your system (i.e., WINWORD.EXE) and if it is, shut it down (and of course if not it does nothing)?
How can I make my app. to where it doesnt show up in the task manager.

I am trying to pull a text string from an open program in the task manager. For instance, lets say I have a web page open, how would I pull the title (or task) of the web page, from the task manager, and use it in a text string? I am wondering if this is possible, and if so, how would you go about it?
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
This will close Notepad:
Private Declare Function FindWindow Lib "user32" _
Alias "FindWindowA" (ByVal lpClassName As String, _
ByVal lpWindowName As String) As Long
Private Declare Function PostMessage Lib "user32" _
Alias "PostMessageA" (ByVal hwnd As Long, ByVal wMsg As Long, ByVal wParam As Long, ByVal lParam As Long) As Long
Private Const WM_CLOSE = &H10
Private Const WM_DESTROY = &H2
Private Sub Command1_Click()
hWin = FindWindow("notepad", vbNullString)
If hWin <> 0 Then
PostMessage hWin, WM_CLOSE, 0, 0
PostMessage hWin, WM_DESTROY, 0, 0
To shutdown a program, you will have to know it's handle.
You can find window handles with program's like Spy++ that comes with Visual Studio.
Is there any API that can get the programs that are running in the task manager, so some of them can be closed?
I need to identify them, and close some of them.
Thank you :)

Task Manager Question
I am running an old 16 Bit program that crashes occassionally. After crashing you need to restart the PC before you can Open the program again. But I have found if you open task manager and End Process on "wowexec.exe" you can then open the program without restarting.
What I would like to do is create a little program that will End Process on "wowexec.exe" and then Shell my program so that I never have to go into Task Manager or restart PC.
Using Shell to open the 16 bit program is no problem and works fine, I just need help on the End Process in Task Manager.
Still Running In Task Manager
Can anyone please tell me what process is not ending in the following code? If I make it into an .exe, it still runs in task manager after it is closed.
Private Sub cmdEmail_Click()
Dim conn As ADODB.Connection

Set conn = New ADODB.Connection
Set rs = New ADODB.Recordset
.Provider = "microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0"
.ConnectionString = "Data Source=c:database.mdb"
.CursorLocation = adUseClient
rs.Open "SELECT CustName, Address1, Address2, City, Quantity, Type, _
Amount, Type1, Weight, Cube, Connote FROM Manifest WHERE Date = Date() _
ORDER BY CustCode", conn, adOpenForwardOnly
Set drepDataReport.DataSource = rs
drepDataReport.ExportReport rptKeyHTML, "c:report.htm", True, False, _
Set drepDataReport.DataSource = Nothing
Set rs = Nothing
Set conn = Nothing
Call StartTimer(5, 5)
Private Sub StartTimer(Interval, Elapsed)
Timer1.Tag = DateAdd("s", Elapsed, Now)
Timer1.Interval = Interval
Timer1.Enabled = True
Private Sub cmdExit_Click()
Private Sub Form_Load()
Timer1.Enabled = False
Private Sub Form_Unload(Cancel As Integer)
Dim tmpForm As Form
For Each tmpForm In Forms
If tmpForm.Name <> "frmMain" Then
Set tmpForm = Nothing
Set frmMain = Nothing
Private Sub Timer1_Timer()
Dim lDiff As Long
lDiff = DateDiff("s", Now, CDate(Timer1.Tag))
Label1.Caption = lDiff
If lDiff <= 0 Then
Timer1.Enabled = False
Label1.Visible = False
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks
Question About Task Manager
I am trying to create a program that will run everyday at a certain time that will check on if a certain file was created, if not it will either prompt the user to create it now or in 10-15 minutes.
However the program isn't really important.
I want to be able to run a setup for this program, or write a seperate program that will automatically place the exe into the taskmanager and set the time, date, etc correctly for it.
Is there an easy way to do this, WITHOUT opening up taskmanager iteself with the program?
Task Manager Functionality
in my current project I need to access the same information that the task manager of windows 2000 provides.
I.e. cpu time of a single application, status etc.
Is there any possibility to do this?
Thank you in advance,

Task Manager Clone
in the future I plan to build a small server.., when I do so i will have the thing on 24/7 and obviously wont be monitoring it all the time...
I would like to make, basically, task manager clone (winxp's), the only difference is that it will log the data so that I can review it periodically and I would also like it to monitor hard drive activity...
I really dont know where to start on this..., I have no idea how to collect network, hard drive, or motherboard data...
thanx in advanced,
