How Use Modem To Develop Software For Video On Demand

I m developing software for Video on demand to play songs only using MODEM

Song part is allready completed. Now i m not able to use modem in my software has yet i m not confirm eighter i should use MSCOMM OCX or TAPI3 . Make sure i m using Modem.

What i want !! my software is for cable tv operator . when scustomer dial no by phone (which is connected in my computer. ) my software playing song while playing song detect Dile tone, after 4 ring computer should reply welcome please select category, ( cetegoury will show on tv screen over playing song . Play song display list over song i have done this part of software). when customer press number like 01,02,03 from Phone computer detect no and play that song

IN brif i want 1. Detect Dial Tone from when phone is ringing , 2. after 4 ring pick up the line and reply wave file, 3. While playing wave file when customer press DIgit from Phone detect number theat value supply to variable my program will play particaular Song

Let me explain...

I develop VB5 applications for my company. I currently use NT workstation 4.0 and develop for NT workstations and win 95 machines.

I have now recieved a new laptop for my development work that has come with win 2000 pro on it. I need advise what OS I should work with. Can I make my projects on the w2k platform for nt4 and win 95 machines or will this cause problems ? should I have the 20 gig HD split into 3 partitions , one for win 95 , one for w2k and one for nt4 or is this just asking for trouble. Or would I be better having a win 95 and nt booting system. I need advise, please feel free to offer coments. I would like to keep w2k pro but at the moment only have apps on nt4 and win 95.

I have an idea of a project is to develop a speaking browser. The browser will interpret a web page, and produce a sensible speech rendition of the page. The browser would be intended for visually disabled users, users who may need to use the visual pathway for a higher priority task (e.g. a driver), or developers of sites where users may use speaking browsers. The browser will have embedded strategies to cope with HTML formatted data. For example will read tables cell by cell, and will read ALT tags from images if available. Development could be for Windows PCs (perhaps using Visual Basic and commercially available text to speech plugins), Apple Mac (perhaps using Real Basic and MacOS text to speech), or possible handheld (Palm or PocketPC). Possible extensions could look at the way users with limited mobility could enter commands, select links etc..

Not Able To Develop Further
Hai all,
I developed a project for my company in VB6 and Access at my home (still it is on the way).Then I copied all the stuff in a floppy and copied again at my office.At home everything is running smoothly.But when I start further development and tried to run it.But the error messages "project or object no found" are prompting for the format, trim,len functions.I checked the object browser everything is there in the list.
Last time I did the same thing,but no error .This time this kind of errors I am getting.Anyone is there to getrid of this.Please give me a solution.

Note:I have all the forms and the database in the same folder.

You could some how check the date of the first "INIT" of your OCX vs. what the current date is using the registry to store the first date. Then after a certain period has expired you could disable some features. Or display an annoying message somehow

Let's say i download your OCX. And it has a property: SerNum
I go about using your OCX. BUT in those methods or whatever that you decide to "lock out" your code checks to see that I put the SerNum property equal to a certain string, lets say CB109F45. Now when I call a method that is locked down ,and I haven't put in the SerNum string, the method just simply exits itself.

This of course forces the developers to license it. Just lock out the useful methods/functions/events. This is however not a very "safe" way to do this. Because I'm sure people would share the codes or just hack the OCX to find out what the SerNum string should equal.

Well anyway I hope all this info helps.

Ahhhhhhhh! I'm having big problem with developing my 1st ocx control!

Everytime that i make a change on the code and i want to test it:

1.) I have to remove the compiled user-control from the other instance of visual basic where im testing the compiled ocx and i have to remove it from the componets list also

2.) Then I have to compile the control again.

3.) After that i have to go to the other instance of VB and have to add the controll to the Componets again and insert in the form to test it.

Is there a faster way to test UserControls?

Here is the deal: I am accustomed to developing tools in Excel VBA, since most of the time it would involve tables of data and/or charts that need to be created. Other good reason is ofcourse the fact that it comes free

So... Now I started once again to develop an excel tool, this time to manage testcases for a certain testobject. When I started I actually used Excel for quite a few purposes, but now the tool has developed over time, it is becoming more VB in Excel than actually using excel itself.

There are two important things about this tool:

1) It's GUI: I need a flexible GUI with quite a lot of features, and I am starting to get confronted with the limitations of using VBA: No menu's, treeview is missing a whole bunch of events that VB does have. Those are the two most important examples.

2) It's formula's : I implemented a smart way to deal with formula's in datacontainers (simplified: I create XML files that can contain formula's as value, which are calculated just at the moment the XML file is saved. I use the Excel functionality there: simply paste in the IF, SUM, [Whatever function] in a cell, let Excel do his math and extract the result again. Very simple but effective.

As you can see: points 1 and 2 clearly bite eachother... So my questions are:

A) Can I import GUI parts and menu's into VBA or
B) Can I use an objct of Excel that can do the calculations for me, but then in VB?
C) Any other ideas or suggestions?

I have a folder called v0.0.0. In this are my forms and vbp. If I create a new folder called v0.0.1 and copy all the forms and project into here, I can open the v0.0.0.vbp and rename it (v0.0.1.vbp). It makes reference however to forms in the original v0.0.0 folder.

Help Needed To Develop VB Application Using Web Cam
Hi all,

I would like to talk to anyone who could help me develop an application in VB using a Logitech QuickCam. I hope this message is posted in the right place.

Logitech have issued an SDK for their QuickCam range of cameras. (See below for details)

My application involves using the Quickcam to constantly film a piece of handling equipment in a factory. When an undesirable event (the equipment drops what it is handling) occurs I would like the machine operator to press a button on the PC to save the last x seconds of filming and erasing everything else since the last undesirable event.

The frequency of undesirable events could be between 1 minute and 24 hours so perhaps it might be possible to "cycle" the filming ie. start a new file every x minutes. Depending on the frames/second setting the camera uses ~0.3 Mb per second.

Develop A Simple App For SQL And Distributing
I am really a beginner to SQL but have learned a lot in a few days developing this application I'm working on. Basically I am writing a Printer monitoring/authenticating app, the client needs to manage printing by particular codes (not user names).

What I am doing is creating a SQL database (which in this client's case will run on an existing SQL server but I would like to package it so that anyone may use my program using the MSDE). Bear in mind I am very much a beginner to SQL. What my app does is whenever a user tries to print it asks for a passcode which it then checks the SQL database if that code is valid, if not the print is canceled, and if it is valid ... my application allows the print to go forward and writes to the DB details such as Date/Time, Printer, and Passcode (that is actually it). So it monitors network printers and possibly up to 50 (or more) users so I decided I probably needed something more than JET. This client actually has an SQL server but I would like my app to install using MSDE or use existing SQL server. There are two components, a client (which monitors printer queues and updates db) and a "server tool" which basically allows the user to add/remove Passcodes, Printers and generate reports.

Sorry if this is too much information, my question is really how to correctly develop an app to access a SQL database. The only information the DB will hold are, as I said, data/time (maybe only date), Passcode, and what printers and how many pages were printed by those passcodes. So when I install the "server" portion of my database it should simply create an initial database with those fields, possibly set its own "Instance name," and its own SA password.

I know I can scrap something together that will make the DB (i.e. a simple subroutine) but it seems like this is not the correct way to do it. I would like to use the built in VS.NET tools and so forth but how do "package" my clean database (with only the tables and fields that will be populated) into my application installation. Also I would like the installer discover if MSDE or SQL Server is already running and if so, install the db on a new instance or if not install MSDE and configure it to allow network connections?

Well I guess I went through a lot of info for just a simple question but if anyone could help I'd appreciate it.
