Error During Debug / &"Open&" Not Recognized

I am not sure if there is a problem with my installation of studio.net(2003) but I am having an odd problem incorporating file I/O commands into my program.

Code:
Open ("myfile.txt") For output As #1
Results in the following error when I goto debug my program.

Quote:

'Open' is not declared. File I/O functionality is available in the 'Microsoft.VisualBasic' namespace.

I have gone to Project >> Add Reference and made sure that MIcrosoft.VisualBasic was there, and if I look in the Solution Explorer and look in the "references" folder then MIcrosoft.VisualBasic is shown in the list.

I have added other references (Speech Library) and the commands work fine, but I can not get file I/O commands to work properly.

I have closed the program and rebooted, and I have copied known good code from tutorials and posts in these forums to no avail...

Any ideas?

TIA

Lee

Windows &"start&" Command Not Recognized In VB On Some Systems?
What I want to do is open a PDF document in the user's installed handler for PDFs. The way we currently do it we open Acrobat Reader 5 from the network. If the user is already running another version of Acrobat, that program intercedes instead.

I have tested the windows "start" command and it works in all the computers. We are calling the program via the Shell command. It looks like there is a different shell for VB? It works in some computers and not in others.

Is there any other way of doing this? Or a way to get the "start" command to work using a different shell, or something?

ShellExecute PDF &"file Already Open&" Error
Greetings,

Running Vista and VB6:

I'm using shellexecute to launch files with their associated application. This works for all files except PDF files. With PDF files, I can launch a given file one time successfully, then any subsequent attempts to launch that same file results in the following:

* Adobe Reader opens
* Adobe Reader reports the following error:
"There was an error opening this document. This file is already open or in use by another application."

I can open the file by double-clicking on it from Windows Explorer.

After some time passes, I may or may not be able to successfully launch this same PDF file from my app. Restarting my app has no effect on this behavior.

Here is the code I'm using:

Code:
Private Declare Function ShellExecute Lib "shell32.dll" Alias "ShellExecuteA" (ByVal hwnd As Long, ByVal lpOperation As String, ByVal lpFile As String, ByVal lpParameters As String, ByVal lpDirectory As String, ByVal nShowCmd As Long) As Long

Const SW_SHOWNORMAL as Long = 1

sAddr = sAddr & vbNullChar
lHndl = ShellExecute(mf.hwnd, "open", sAddr, "", "", SW_SHOWNORMAL)

Any clues would be much appreciated.

&"Close&" Web Browser Control And &"Re-Open&"
If a user attempts to login to a site within my app too many times with the wrong details a javascript msgbox appears saying similar to "you've tried to login unsuccessfully ...blah....blah....please close your browser, re-open it and try again"

How do i "close" the web browser control and then "re-open" it so the user can attempt to login again?

Database "Save As" And "Open" Function
I developed one system using VB and Microsoft Access for one company. Because the company is not big, the system is a desktop edition, not the the Web based applications. Now they are asking me to add two more functions of "Save as" and "Open" to the system. That is they want to save the database file as another database file (also in mdb format), so they can keep the old databse file and let the new installation in another computer could open the old database file. Just the same way as using Microsoft Word, you can edit and save one file to, for example, a zip disk and then be open in another computer, the file format does not change. How can I do that? Your opinions will be highly appreciated.

&"Can't Open Clipboard&" Error
Hi,
I'm using following steps to display jpeg images in listview using VB6.0 :-

' Copy the image to a desired size
lLngReturnValue = CopyImage(LoadPicture(lStrJpegFileName).handle, IMAGE_BITMAP, 112.5, 150, LR_COPYRETURNORG)

' Open the clipboard
OpenClipboard frmSource.hwnd

' Clear the clipboard
EmptyClipboard

' Assign the copied image to the clipboard
SetClipboardData CF_BITMAP, lLngReturnValue

' Close the clipboard
CloseClipboard

' Add the clipboard data to the imagelist
imgList.ListImages.Add , lStrJpegFileName, Clipboard.GetData()

On execution of this statements sometimes it shows runtime error "Can't open clipboard" err number 521. The error is not consistent.

What is the solution for this error? or is there any other way to display icon views of jpeg files in listview without using clipboard?

&"Type Mismatch&"/&"Invalid Qualifier&" Error
Hi all

Am just using VB6 for the first time. Am connecting to a SQL Server 2000 database. What i am trying to do is simple select a single cell from the database into a string variable and then hold onto that variable for as long as i need it. The problem is that when i go to put the value into the variable i get a "Type Mismatch" error or an "Invalid Qualifier" error

The global variable that i am using:
Dim conn as new ADODB.Connection
Dim cmd as new ADODB.Command
Dim tempString as String

The connection string that i am using is:
conn.open "UID=;pwd=;Database=Marts;" & _
"Server=localhost;Driver={SQL Server};

The statement that i am executing is:
cmd.ActiveConnection = conn
cmd.commandType = adCmdText
cmd.commandText = "Select ColumnA from TableA where ColumnB = 'ABC'"
tempString = cmd.Execute

Vista Error: &"program Is Not Working&" And App &"has Run Out Of Time&"
Client is running my vb6 app on Vista (in XP compatibility mode), and is getting an error that indicates the app "has run out of time and shuts the program down" (her words). This happens in a very specific section of the pgm that no xp machines report errors in.

Separately, on (attempted) startup, she gets the message that the app "has stopped working, where Windows will close the program and notify me later if a solution is available." But the solution is "as easy as allowing the program to close then re-opening it back up"

Help!?

Is There VB &"debug&" Or Something That Will List All Required External References???
Let me start by saying that I am a relative VB novice and am not the most efficient or structured programmer around or I would not have this problem. Anyway, I have a very large project which uses numerous references and components. Over time, I’ve had a tendency to add some of these references/components in order to see if it was needed for my application. For example, the DBGRID ocx file needs to be added to your project before you can use the DBGRID control. Even though a particular reference or component may not have been needed for a specific problem I may have been having while coding, I may have inadvertently left the reference/component turned on. Now, when it comes time to distribute my project to other platforms, I’d rather not have to port a whole bunch of unnecessary ref/com files. The only way I know how to check to see if one of these files is actually necessary is successively remove each of these ref/com and rerun the code. I would rather not have to this since it will take forever to check that everything in the entire application is still functioning properly. Is there any “debugging” capability in VB that would list all the external references that are necessary for the entire code??? Thanks very much in advance.

Method &"SaveAs&" Or &"Save&" Of Object &"Excel.Workbook&" Does Not Work.
Hi people.
I did for a long time a program that uses excel automation, so that from a template will create a final file with some data pulled from the database (with ADO). At the end and when the Excel file is ready to be saved I got in a couple of computers some problems. In the whole LAN have XP, but in these 2 computers we have SP2. I have checked the rights and are OK (I have even tried to save the Workbook under the Temp folder and also the same problem).
Working with Office 2003 (SP1).
I have searched in internet about any bugs but I don´t find anything.
Any ideas.
Thanks for your time

Debug &"query Already Exists&" Problem
Help anyone.
I'm modifying an Access 2000 db. I copied a form that was close to the desired result, then modified it. I've edited the code to account for the appropriate forms/queries/docs, etc. But when I run the command, I get a "run-time error 3012" "query already exists". I can't seem to put my finger on what I'm missing.

In debug, here's the focus line for the run-time error:

Set qdf=dbs.CreateQueryDef(strQryName,strSQL)

Mind you this line is in the other event procedures for the other forms that use the same code with doc name modifications.

Thanks for any and all help.

Extract Local Names For &"OK&", &"Cancel&" And &"Apply&"
Hi!

I noticed that some programs written in C++ have an English language, but the captions of the buttons "OK", "Cancel" and "Apply" are in German, Swedish or whatever localized Windows version the user utilizes. Any idea how to obtain the captions of those buttons in VB? The only method which comes into my mind is to get the locale ID and have an array with strings for the the various language versions, but I doubt that those programs do it in that way.

Pleez, Read This!!! Matter Important! "Printing In "DOS Mode" Using "Shell" -not Happening, I Wonder
Hi

[I had to repost it since I have not received any replies for my earlier post]

I have a problem.

Following is the code :

Shell("c:windowscommand.com /c type " & App.path & "matrix.txt >prn")

where App.path is C:XYZ

when the above line is executed, the contents of "matrix.txt" is not printed on the printer. Instead, control just passes on to the next line.

So, to find out why, I modified the line thus.

Shell("c:windowscommand.com /K")

The above command takes me to the "command prompt". Here, when I give the command "type c:xyzmatrix.txt >prn", which is what the vbcode does, I get the message "file creation error".

So, I have identified the problem. Can anyone tell me why this "File creation error" occurs, And how to solve the problem?

Thanks for reading through.
