12-hour Time Function Syntax
I'm making a clock-type program, and it outputs the time to a label, updating it with a timer (the timer code has "Label.caption = Time"). However, I have a checkbox that will allow the user to tick to display the time in a 12-hour format rather than 24hour. I've looked on MSDN as the format:time function, but I don't think it's what i need, either that or I'm not implementing it properly.
So basically, how do I use the "Time" function output 12-hour time?
Access - Convert Short Time To 24 Hour Time
I have table fields that are formatted with short time input mask.
I need to convert the data to twenty-four hour time (without AM/PM).
Example - 4:30 AM converted to 04:30.
If need be, I can change the Date fields of the table to text, or whatever. I have the form fields formatted with a short date input mask.
I was able to convert the short date to YYYY/MM/DD, with some googling, but I can't find anything on converting the time to twentyfour hour time.
Set The Time To One Hour
My program is to establish a connection between a client and server to send the IP address of client. This is done automatically in every one hour. The IP address can be sent automatically to the server but the problem is how to set the time to one hour to send next IP address to the server. I try to do this by using a timer control but the constraint is the timer interval properties can only be set to 65000 which is about 1 minute. I would very much appreciate if somebody could help me. Thank you.
1 Hour Time
I'm new here
I've a question: I need to use a timer in my application but it has to start every hour. VB timer can't do this
How can I do?
Making Program Run Function Every Hour
I was planning on using a timer for this but it seems that the only work on intervals of 60 seconds or 1 minute. What i want to do is have my application running in the background, but then run one of its functions every hour. Does anyone know of a good way of doing this other than either keeping trakc of timer events until there have been 60 of them (1 hour), or checking the system clock every timer event and seeing if an hour has passed.
If there is a better way of doing this, please let me know.
24-hour Time Trouble
I am having some trouble with this part of my code as I am only new to vb. I have to have 2 text boxes (named txtstart and txtend) in which the start time of the meeting and the end time of the meeting are entered and I have to show the amount of time that the meeting will run for. I have worked out that a simple
lblmeetingtime.caption = txtend.text - txtstart.text
will work, but the problem is that when an end time like 1600 or 0100 where there are 2 zeros at the end the code gives me a number out of 100. How can I fix this without having to hit my head on the wall
BTW, its in 24 hour time.
Calculate Time (24-hour)

12/24 Hour Time Format
Can anyone recommend a reliable method of determining whether times should be displayed in 12 or 24 hour format on a user's system. I know how to format times either way, but I'm looking a way to determine how the user would like hours to be represented only. The regional settings in the Control Panel allow to specify the time format for full times, but I'm looking to display hour names at the top of a grid.
12 Hour: 12A, 1A, 2A ... 10P, 11P
24 Hour: 00, 01, 02 ... 22, 23
I want to select which display to use based on the regional settings, but there seems to be no simple setting for this. I thought of checking the Time Format string for the presence of the "t" character, but will those same "h", "m", and "t" characters be used in all foreign systems where a different language is possibly in use?
How To Test On Time (hour) Change
I have a timekeeping program that keeps time fine; however, the system also displays the date which is supposed to always be current. The problem is that when the date changes at midnight, the timeclock screen does not.
Here is the line of code that displays the time:
lblHr = Format(Time, "hh:mm:ss AMPM")
I have a routine that diplays the system date when the program starts. What I want to do is invoke that routine every time an hour change occurs. That way, I will catch the Windows date change when it happens. I do not know how to test for an hour change.
Can someone help please?
CPU Time 2-3 Seconds Every 1/2 Hour. Is That Normal???
I have a VB app that has a timer, and sub-classes system message for when system changes, or time changes etc...
I have noticed that the application consumes 2-3 seconds of CPU time every 1/2 hour. Is that normal? Is there a way of knowing what the application is doing exactly to consume that time?
How Do I Deduct An Hour From A Time Field?
I have two date/time vars, PickupTime and ReturnTime . I also have a var called GracePeriod, which is an integer.
What I need to do is calculate if a rented car has been returned later than the ReturnTime, if so add an extra day to the total days rented (and charge them extra muhaha).
If PickupTime < ReturnTime Then
RentDays = RentDays + 1
So in the above example, if the user types in 9:00 for the PickupTime, and 9:01 or greater for the ReturnTime, the RentDays goes up by 1. But sometimes there is a "grace period" e.g. if set to 1 allows the car to be returned an hour later than the ReturnTime without the penalty of an added day. So I need something like this:
If PickupTime < ReturnTime - GracePeriod Then
RentDays = RentDays + 1
However I obviously can't subtract an integer from a time. So how can this be done?
Resolved - 24 Hour Time Format

Format Time To Display Closest Hour
I've been using this:
Format(Time, "h AMPM")
to diplay time (hour). Problem is that using the above 3:54 PM will show as "3 PM"
How do I format the time to display the closest hour? (so that 3:29 will show 3 PM and 3:31 will show 4 PM)
Time (hour) Control Idea Needed...
I'm doing a program to a parking company that controls the price by hour.
I thought in 2 ways to control it:
1 - Start a timer when the car arrives;
2 - Check the system time when the car returns.
On the first case, the problem is that if the program is closed, the timer will stop. The second case's problem is the user can change the system time.
Do you have any idea to help me?

Excel's Sort Function Works Only The First Time, Not A Second Time
I have a problem with some Office Excel (2003) automation in VB. My 'Sort' method works fine the first time, but not when executing it a second time.
The problem causing line looks like this
Call xlsSheet.Cells.Range("A2", "D7").SortSpecial(xlPinYin,Cells(2, 4), xlAscending, 1, Cells(2, 1), xlAscending, Cells(2, 3), xlAscending)
I included the problem in zip, just click the 2 buttons (to execute it a first and a second time).
Recieving A Date/time Value Like In C Time() Function
I have to send some data to the server app expecting, among others, a date in format of time() function in C
(long that is a number of seconds since midnight 01/01/1970). VB doesn't seem to answer to my prayers ;-)
I would be very grateful for any suggestion on how to deal with the problem.
Thanks in advance,

Time Program And Time Function
OK I'm kind of new to VB and tried making a simple program for a RPG I play to calculate the length of time. I want each dice roll to count as 6 seconds of game time. I'll explain the problem later and get to the code.
* Note - All variables are longs
totaltimesec = txtrolls * 6
minutes = totaltimesec / 60
seconds = totaltimesec mod 60
if minutes > 60 then
hour = minutes / 60
newmin = minutes mod 60
txttime = hour &":" & newmin & ":" & seconds
txttime = minutes & ":" & seconds
OK that is just the basic code. I left out all the error checking and all that. The program runs but the problem is in the logic somewhere. If I type in 90 rolls it comes out to be 9 minutes which is right , but if I put 89 rolls it comes up 9 minutes and 54 seconds which is wrong. I've staired at this thing for hours to come up with whats wrong at cant find it. I dont have the help files available so I dont know what the time function does if that can help so if anyone could offer some advice it would be appreciated.
I have a datalogging application that I made. It reads data from PLC's on the network every 20 secs. Then puts the data in an excel sheet. The first column is the date generated from the vb6 date function. The second column is the time from the time function.
I'm getting a weird error from the time function, but not all of the time. It occasionally skips back 5 minutes then the next reading is back to normal. 8:18:47 AM
It rarely happened until yesterday. It did this repeatedly every 55 minutes. I have multiple instances of the datalogger running. It happened at the same time between instances, but not on all of them.
Here is a chart I made of each part run and in time. The spikes are when the time skipped back.
Is there a known bug for this issue? For now I've just rebooted windows.
I am trying to subtract two times. For example I have a start time and stop time variable that gets the time by using start = Time. How could I subtract these or convert them to integer so that I could subtract them?

Is there anyone who knows a function to convert a number ( for example 170 seconds) of seconds into hours:minutes:seconds (0:2:50) ?
Does anyone know how I could calc the time it takes excel to calculate a bunch of formula. It seems that it will only calc the value to the nearest second but is it possible to break this down to the nearest 100th of a second?
Time Function Question
I have the following code embedded in a macro:
CalcStartTime = Time
Application.Calculation = xlCalculationAutomatic
CalcEndTime = Time
CalcTime = CalcEndTime - CalcStartTime
It's designed to determine how long the Calculation line takes. The Calculation line in the code takes a split second to run each time it is called (perhaps 1500 times or so during the macro) and I'd like to see how long exactly it takes each time so I can improve my macro to run more efficiently. When I step through the above code, it usually takes a noticeable amount of time for the Calculation line to execute (I would guess a quarter of a second, i.e. 250 milliseconds), yet the CalcStartTime and CalcEndTime variables almost always take the same values, to 15 decimal places (all variables defined as doubles). Sometimes they don't, there might be a difference of 0.00001234567890 between them (say) but usually there's no difference. Why would that be? I would expect Excel to be more sensitive than that. I tried putting a DoEvents in there but it had no impact.
Dir Function - Run-time Error 52 - Bug?
I just want to share with you this strange thing I noticed about the Dir function. I was looking for a directory under "D:Program Files" and when I tried it on another PC I got this runtime error 52! After a sometime I noticed the D: in the other PC was the DVD! So I tried to run the function on my DVD and got the same error!
Finally I decided to us the "Scripting.FileSystemObject" method and it works.
Set fs = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
a = fs.FileExists(MyPath)
I hope it helps others.
Run-time Error 5 With MID$ Function
I have set up a macro that goes through the content of an email message, and pulls out specific information from that email message, and inserts into specific cells in Excel. I took examples I found on Xtreme VB Talk web site. For the most part it looks like it will work except that I get a runtime error '5' with the MID$ function call. I am using Office 2002 with VB v6.3.
This is an example of the message that would be received in my Outlook:
RequesterName :Warner, Rick
CurrentTime :2/11/04 4:02:48 PM
Phone :(713) 978-2481
PickUp_Location :1204 spot #13
Container_Type :Tank Truck
ContainerNo :T/T 1201
My code is as follows:
Dim outApp As Outlook.Application
Dim outFldr As Outlook.MAPIFolder
Dim outMail As MailItem
Dim lStart As Long
Dim lEnd As Long
Dim strBody As String
Dim Requester As String
Set outApp = New Outlook.Application
Set outFldr = outApp.GetNamespace("MAPI").GetDefaultFolder(olFolderInbox).Folders("Test")
For Each outMail In outFldr.Items
strBody = outMail.Body
Dim lngLen As Long
lngLen = Len(strBody)
'Start position of Homerowners Name
lStart = InStr(strBody, "Requester : ") + Len("Requester : ")
lEnd = InStr(strBody, "RequesterName : ") - 1
'Put RequesterID into cell A2
Requester = Mid$(strBody, lStart, lEnd - lStart)
Worksheets("Sheet1").Cells(2, 1).Value = Requester
'and so on for each part of the message you want to store in excel
'Delete the message when done with it
Set outMail = Nothing
Set outFldr = Nothing
Set outApp = Nothing
The line of code that gives me problems is:
Requester = Mid$(strBody, lStart, lEnd - lStart)
The error I get is "Invalid procedure call or arguement". I added MID$ statement itself in the Macro watch debug list and it seems to stem from this function. I searched MSDN and your website with limited help. Do you know what could be causing the problem.
