Mime, With What?
Hi!
I am making an outlook kind of app and I managed to receive and send emails, the problem is that I receive mails in html or mime format, the html mails I show them in a webbrowser control window, but the mime... with what should I display them?
I receive the mails in a variable and then I show it, in case of the html formated i cant figure other way to show them other like this

Code:
Open "a.html" For Output As #1
Print #1, mail
Close #1
ruta = App.Path & "a.html"
WebBrowser1.navigate ruta

But for mime I dont know what to do, even with what I must show it!
Help!
Tnx

Mime && Aol
hi all,

before i start posting MIME headers and so has anyone developed a mail sender application and is familiar with MIME standards?

i've built a complete app able of sending out emails via telnetting (no outlook or components), and this works fine in every viewer, EXCEPT for AOL. as usual. i cannot get an AOL account (i'm in europe) and don't know how to proceed.

anyone here has solved a similar issue of adjusting MIME headers to AOL compatibility? it's worth a try...

cheers,

wc.

MIME And VB
I have come to the point there i need to use MIME Encoding, and Decoding, does anyone have a clue where to start ?

I need to encode data to a Mime Type, before sending t thru winsock, this is NOT a mail project, so Base64, UUenc etc are not the type i need, is there a DLL, OCX Source etc etc that can encode to alot of the MIME types or even to all of them ?

I have tried sending Content Type: commands to get the destination to encode it but no look, I know NOTHING about mime other than its to do with MAIL, and Compression anyone shead any light ?

MIME Tutorial
I am trying to include a graphic in an email I am generating from VB6 code(based on Outlook). The email works fine, including bypassing the confirmation screen, but I have no luck with the graphic. Only goes through to other PC's in my office, not outside.

I have searched the group and found many references to MIME, but most of the threads are dead-ends. I found one MIME complete reference but it is way above my head.

Can someone recommend a tutorial or a completed thread dealing with including a graphic in an HTML email?

Thanks!

MIME Types
Hi all,
I'm trying to set up an application that gets information off the net. I have a webpage that was set up that creates a temp file that has a single line in it - like this... data, data, data. (three items)

The file is tagged with the mime type that launches my vbprogram. All that works and it's sending the filename as the commandline arg.

Here's my problem. When I go to launch the file I get an error that says bad filenumber or name. I've included a msgbox to view the name (it displays the full path ex:"c:winntprofile...temp internet files....filename[1])

This is the code that runs when the program opens...

<code>
intFileNum = FreeFile()
strFile = Trim(Command$)

Open strFile For Input As #intFileNum
Line Input #intFileNum, strBuffer
Close #intFileNum

a_strArgs = Split(strBuffer, ",")

strComplexity = LCase(Trim(a_strArgs(0)))
strLogpoint = LCase(Trim(a_strArgs(1)))
strDevice = LCase(Trim(a_strArgs(2)))
</code>

There is more but it gets to the open command and gives the error...

Any help would be great...

MIME Decoding
I'm pretty new to VB... How would I go about decoding MIME in Visual Basic? I'm guessing someone has made a DLL or ActiveX control for it... unless it can be done manually?

Thanks

MSXML 3.0 Sp1 SSL And MIME

Thanks a lot

MIME Attachment
I have a program that sends emails with attachments using the Mapi32.dll. I define my message as a MAPIMessage and my file(s) as MAPIFile. This works great! I can send to any number of recips, and send any number of attachments. Here’s the problem….

How can I send the attachment in MIME format?

Email MIME Encoding
i'm making this emailclient, i can retreive mails and stuff
but all mails are MIME encoded

so my question is: how do i get the usefull data from the messy code (like From, Subject, Date,...) and how do i add attachments and decode attachments?

does anyone know a dll thats free and does some of the things above?
or maybe a tutorial on how to do this with vb?

Email MIME Parsing
as some know i'm making this pop email client, i got to the point i can retreive all messages from the sever, that all works fine

but now: i need to display the message, thats why i would need to parse the message using MIME so i can get the usefulls stuff out of that confusing mess.

Does anyone know a dll that does this, some code or at least a tutorial?

it would be very helpfull

Reinout,

EDIT: I found this great looking program that should doe exactly what i need, but it doesn't seem to work
maybe someone can take a look?

i would really really apreciate it if someone could get this working

MIME Decode Problem
Hi all:
I got a problem here. I'm building a receive mail application in VB that connect to POP3 server. I can sucessfully read the email in mailbox but I can't see the attachment that's in picture format. It's MIME multi-part encode. Can anyone tell me how to decode it?

Thanks

Writing MIME Files
First of all, I know I'm posting this to the wrong place, but I'm hoping someone will move this to a different more helpful part of the forum. Hopefully not the recycling bin becuase I just spent the last 45 min reading through it. Unreal!

Here's my problem.
I have program that creates a MIME file and sends it via an API. That part works fine. The problem I'm running into is that I can't get my attachments to be sent with the email. Here's what I have.

MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain
Date: Wednesday 05/14/03
To: gmalchow@automaticproducts.com
From: AdifferentEmailaddress@work.com
Subject: Test
Attachments: /Folder1/File1.txt
Message: Try to send an email with File1.txt as an attachment

I recieve this email fine, but no attachment. This is the first MIME file I have ever written, so I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm not even sure if Attachments: is the correct syatax.
I know that the attachment: /Folder1/File.txt doesn't have a drive specified and that's becuase it's not on my PC. It's on our iSeries 400 and it uses directories, which are basically the same thing as folders.

I know this isn't a VB specific problem, but I figued that someone here might have had some experience with MIME files. Everywhere I've looked so far keeps offering 3rd party software and JavaMail. I'm not interested in either of those.

Thanks in advance

How Do I Create A MIME Viewer For IE In VB6?
Hi

I've searched high and low on the net to figure out how to make an MIME viewer in VB 6.0 (as an activex dll) but I can't find any good examples/tutorials on this topic.

I have covered a lot docs on MIME handling in IE, so registry settings and the mechanisms surrounding MIME is covered.

Making ActiveX dll's in VB is not a problem either.....

Specificly I'm trying to make an tiff viewer, I've got an image control that will be hosted by this activex.

O yes, I do know theres a lot of tif viewers on the market as an alternative, but this is not the issue at this point.

The scenario is:
A web server is (IIS w/asp pages) is returning a binary stream w/Response.BinaryWrite and Response.ContentType = "image/tiff", other MIME types might also be implemented (home made ones with application/.... is also a feature needed, thats the reason for building one instead of buying one in the first case)

My real headache is the following.

When IE has resolved the MIME type through the local registry settings, and found my activex dll, what kind of interface should I use to catch the incoming data stream ??? I guess it's passed through the OLE interface somehow, but how/where ? Or am I on a wild goose chase here ??? Is this only achieveable in VC++ (as ATL/COM lib)

I do have examles on this in VC++, but then, I'm quite more experienced in VB than VC++.

Any examples, ref sites, information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance....

Problems With Email Attachments In MIME
I have this sample email code that allows sending attachments in either UUENCODE or MIME format.

The UUENCODE works fines, but the MIME doesn't.
The problem with this code is that when sending an attachment with MIME, the header and the file itself appear as the body of the email like so:

sample Notice:
this is a simple email notice.

--NextMessagePart
Content-Type: text/plain;
name="test.txt"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
Content-Disposition: attachment;
filename="test.txt"

VGhpcyBpcyBhIHNpbXBsZSB0ZXN0IGZpbGUgdG8gc2VuZCB2aWEgZW1haWwuDQpUaGlzIG lzIGEg
(etc)

This does not occur when using uuencode.
Anyone feel like trying to figure out why the MIME attachments don't work?

Please be sure to alter the TO and FROM so that the addresses are valid.

Thanks...

Browser MIME Helper Application Or Other...
I am looking for sample code for a browser helper application that responds to a unique mime type.

Specifically, I would like my website to be able to utilize files on a CD located on the client machine. This allows me to present large data files to the user from my website without the user having to spend hours downloading. I send him the CD (courseware), and the course is run from the website to get server functionality for dynamic pages. I would like to integrate the website and CD as an integrated application.

My thought was that I could intercept a mime type with a helper app, where the body of the message included a filename, and the helper app would locate the file on the CD and retrieve it, and present it to the browser (.ppt, .htm, .gif, and .jpg files, maybe others) and the browser could display normally.

Is this possible, and if so, where can I find sample code? Or is there another way to do this I have completely missed?

Sending Mail And Setting MIME Type
hi folks,
I am sending emails using a MAPI control. All works fine if it is just plain text, but if i try and send HTML Tags as the body of the mail then the recipient of the mail receives all the HTML Tags rather than its interpreted version.
For this i guess we need to set
Content-Type: text/html
but im not sure as to where to set this property as i am using a MAPI control and in turn MIcrosoft Outloook Express.

Can anybody please HELP ???????

Would appreciate if u could send me the solution right away coz to say its urgent would be an understatement

Thanks !!!

(at areas where it says REMOVED, i removed the text there to protect myself lol)

anyway, heres my code to get the message, subject, and sender

Code:
sTMP = Split(MailData, "From: ", 2)
sTMP = Split(sTMP(1), "<", 2)
sTMP = Split(sTMP(1), ">", 2)
mSender = sTMP(0)

sTMP = Split(MailData, "Subject: ", 2)
sTMP = Split(sTMP(1), vbCrLf, 2)
mSubject = sTMP(0)

sTMP = Split(MailData, vbCrLf & vbCrLf)
mMessage = sTMP(1)

Form1.Text1.Text = Form1.Text1.Text & "Sender: " & mSender & vbCrLf
Form1.Text1.Text = Form1.Text1.Text & "Subject: " & mSubject & vbCrLf
Form1.Text1.Text = Form1.Text1.Text & "Message: " & mMessage & vbCrLf
where MailData is the string where the entire email is stored. Am i doing this right? will there be any circumstances where the code wont work? (ie the matching parts using split() )

My main problem is the mime bit.. anyone have any code in which i can get both plaintext and html versions of the message, if they exist? (i assume to check if its in mime format, the mSubject in my code would be 'This is a multi-part message in MIME format.')

SMTP, MIME, RFC, Base64 Email File Attachments
Hello.

I am writing a program that sends emails with file attachments. From what I have read, first you have to convert the entire file that you are attaching to Base64, then limit it to 76 characters per line. I have code that does all of this that I got from WinsockVB and it seems to work pretty well. I am successfully recieving emails with the file (test.txt) attached. However, when I open the file, rather than having the decoded data that is in the original test.txt on my computer, all I have is several lines of encoded lines of base64 code.

Any Idea what is going on? Here is my code:

VB Code:
Winsock1.SendData GenerateMessageID(Mid(sEmail, InStr(1, sEmail, "@") + 1, Len(sEmail))) & Chr$(13) & Chr$(10)    Winsock1.SendData "DATE: " & Format(Now, "h:mm:ss") & Chr$(13) & Chr$(10)    Winsock1.SendData "FROM: " & From & " <" & sEmail & ">" & Chr$(13) & Chr$(10)    Winsock1.SendData "TO: " & " <" & txtSendTo & ">" & Chr$(13) & Chr$(10)    Winsock1.SendData "Reply-to: " & " <" & sEmail & ">" & Chr$(13) & Chr$(10)    Winsock1.SendData "SUBJECT: " & txtSubject & Chr$(13) & Chr$(10)    Winsock1.SendData "MIME-Version: 1.0" & Chr$(13) & Chr$(10)    Winsock1.SendData "Content-Type: multipart/mixed; charset=us-ascii; boundary=boundarystring" & Chr$(13) & Chr$(10)    Winsock1.SendData Chr$(13) & Chr$(10)    Winsock1.SendData "--boundarystring" & Chr$(13) & Chr$(10)    Data = txtMessageBody    Winsock1.SendData Data & Chr$(13) & Chr$(10)    Winsock1.SendData Chr$(13) & Chr$(10)        If FilesAttached = True Then        Winsock1.SendData "--boundarystring" & Chr$(13) & Chr$(10)        Winsock1.SendData "Content-Type: application/octet-stream;" & Chr$(13) & Chr$(10) & " name=test.txt" & Chr$(13) & Chr$(10)        Winsock1.SendData "Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64;" & Chr$(13) & Chr$(10)        Winsock1.SendData "Content-Disposition: attachment;" & Chr$(13) & Chr$(10) & " filename=test.txt" & Chr$(13) & Chr$(10)        Winsock1.SendData Chr$(13) & Chr$(10)        Open App.Path & "filedata.dat" For Input As #1        Do While Not EOF(1)            Input #1, FileData            Winsock1.SendData FileData & Chr$(13) & Chr$(10)        Loop        Close #1    End If        Winsock1.SendData "--boundarystring--"    Winsock1.SendData Chr$(13) & Chr$(10) & "." & Chr$(13) & Chr$(10)

(at areas where it says REMOVED, i removed the text there to protect myself lol)

anyway, heres my code to get the message, subject, and sender

VB Code:
sTMP = Split(MailData, "From: ", 2)    sTMP = Split(sTMP(1), "<", 2)    sTMP = Split(sTMP(1), ">", 2)    mSender = sTMP(0)        sTMP = Split(MailData, "Subject: ", 2)    sTMP = Split(sTMP(1), vbCrLf, 2)    mSubject = sTMP(0)        sTMP = Split(MailData, vbCrLf & vbCrLf)    mMessage = sTMP(1)        Form1.Text1.Text = Form1.Text1.Text & "Sender: " & mSender & vbCrLf    Form1.Text1.Text = Form1.Text1.Text & "Subject: " & mSubject & vbCrLf    Form1.Text1.Text = Form1.Text1.Text & "Message: " & mMessage & vbCrLf
where MailData is the string where the entire email is stored.

Could anyone tell me the way to automate sending a S/MIME file using Outlook Express API? Any APIs for communicating with Outlook Express? How to find the information?

Thank you very much in advance.

How Can You Set The MIME Type So That An HTML Page Can Be Read As MS Excel Format?
Hi, there.

I have heard that it is possible to change the MIME type so that an HTML page can be read or saved by MS Excel. Is this really possible? I've done some searching, but haven't found out how to do this. Do any of you know if this really will work and, if so, how do do it?

Thanks.

MIME: How Do U Set ".xls" Ext For: Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel&
Hi, there.

I am writing the content of an HTML page so that it will be recognized as MS Excel format. This is done via the following statement:

***************************************
response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel"

***************************************

Instead of displaying the Web page, a "File Download" dialog displays. However, the dialog shows the ".aspx" or ".htm" extension. Although Excel can then open this file, or the user can change the extension to ".xls" in the "File Download" dialog, some users are not at all technical and this may confuse them.

Is there any way to have the file extension be ".xls" in the "File Download" dialog?
