Replace Text In File - Multiple Lines - RESOLVED
Building an app to replace keywords or entire sentences. I have been reding the entire file into a string and then using the replace command. The only problem is when printing the file back into the file it looses all the cariage returns. If I read the file one line at a time it may not find the entire keyword. For example if I need to find and replace a table in a HTML document reading one line at a time would not be able to find the table. Any ideas on how I can do a replace command on a file and have the string to find be on multiple lines but still retain the cariage returns. Thanks
Convert Rich Text To Plain Text Without Using Rtf Component
Here's my problem:
I have some text that is saved in a database and it is in RTF format.
But now, what I need to do is convert all this into normal, plain, and boering old text...
So anyway, is there a way to convert RTRF into plain text without using the Rich TextBox Control?
Thank you all, and have a good day!
RTF To Plain Text
Can someone tell me how I can convert RTF text into plain text using a module? I have a database with a field that comes in RTF, but which I need to convert to text. Previously I was able to do so using the code below, with a reference to the Microsoft Rich Textbox Control version 220.127.116.11, running it as a macro inside Access, but that all of a sudden stopped working and now gives me a “Set not permitted error” at the line:
RTFControl.TextRTF = rstRecordset!COMMENTS
I realize that this control I’m using is actually intended to be used as an object, and it works fine if I put the control on a form and use it that way, but I’d prefer to be able to do it with just the module. What I find particularly odd is the fact that it worked for a while, but without any code changes it stopped. Probably something got updated somewhere along the way, but if I could get it to work again I would be grateful. Thanks so much.
Note that this code is from inside an Access module, normally called by a macro, thus the connection the way it is. References are ADO 2.1 and Rich Text Control 6.0
private Sub ConvertToText()
Dim rstRecordset as new Recordset
Dim RTFControl as new RichTextLib.RichTextBox
rstRecordset.Open” "SELECT TABLE.Comments FROM TABLE;", Application.CurrentProject.Connection, adOpenStatic, adLockPessimistic
Do Until rstRecordset.EOF = true
If len(rstRecordset!COMMENTS) > 0 then
RTFControl.TextRTF = rstRecordset!COMMENTS
rstRecordset!COMMENTS = RTFControl.Text

Using A RTB: How To Convert RTF Text Into Plain Text During Run Time??
My Werdpad text editor, I want to add a feature I can't seem to figure out how to do.
With a new file I "paste" a bunch of text from something... it's all formatted nice and pretty in rich text. Tables, Bold...etc.
What I want is by selecting an option from the menu to take what is displayed and reformat it to plain text (as if I pasted it into notepad) getting rid of all the formatting (including table cells if there are any).
I know how to set the font using SelStart=1 and SelLength = Len(RTB.Text)
But I don't know how to get rid of tables and pictures....
Any idea's is appreciated.
Edit: Here is all I have. This sets the font. But that's all I have
Private Sub mnuPlain_Click()
Text1.SelStart = 1
Text1.SelLength = Len(Text1.Text)
Text1.SelFontName = "Verdana"
Text1.SelFontSize = 10
Text1.SelBold = False
Text1.SelItalic = False
Text1.SelUnderline = False
Text1.SelStrikeThru = False
Text1.SelColor = 0
Text1.SelStart = Len(Text1.Text)
Yes, my RTB is called Text1 I am just used to that name for a text box.
Concating Plain Text And Rtf Text - Strike Two...
I'll try it once more -
Guys - this is the case:
If I do this:
rtftextbox1.SelRTF = string1 & list1.text & string2
While - string1 and 2 are both two halves of the text from the same
rtftextbox1 - meaning - rich text - this line will preserve the rtf text in
the text box - but the text from the list box - will not show.! (string2
will over lap it)
Any ideas on how to concat the rtf text with the plain text (from the list
box) so the plain text will be seen - and the rtf text keep its properties?

Print Out Plain Text, Chr(13),chr(10) Not Work?
I tried to print out a string which contains serveral lines in thermal printer. It just printed one line. I used Chr(13); chr(13)&chr(10); chr(10); chr(10)&chr(13) as separator. It still just printed one line. Would you someone be kind to let me know how I can fix it?
Thank you very much!

Using A Plain Text File Instead Of A Access Db
I have a program that checks a string against a access database that contains one table with one column and it checks for a match for each record (cell) and then it moves on to the next string, etc...
I want to do this with a text file instead of an access database. How can I read a text file into memory (I am assuming into an array) and then create the loop to check the strings against it?
Below is how I am doing it with access
If open_database(conn) Then sql_command = "select [printer name] from tbl_PrintID_PrintName" ' Checks to see if DB connection exists If run_command(conn, rs, sql_command) Then ' Reads the first record rs.MoveFirst ' Reads each record as long as it is not End of File Do While Not rs.EOF ' Checks to see if the Printer name field on this ' particular record equals the driver name from the ' above registry key. If rs.Fields("Printer Name") = sName Then

Help With Loading Plain Text Files Into An App
I am on my second day of learning VB, so forgive me if this is a novice question, but I can't find a solution anywhere on the site.
I have an app, a command button triggers a CommandDialog Box that opens a file selection box. I am trying to create a textbox that will load this file into the application (plain text SGML files) so the user can touch up the file before processing further.
can anyone tell me how to do this?

Can VB Output MS Word Codes In Plain Text?
For some reason or other, I'm writing some code in Excel VBA to write data to a file destined for editing in MS Word and ultimately importing to .PDF. However, that's just a detail, I would think.
It works nicely so far, but I wonder how . . . if . . . I can incorporate boldface, underline, etc. tags that will be rercognized by Word. I.e., what would I need to make . . .
Open "MyTextFile.TXT" for Output as #1
Print #1, Field$(1); Field$(2); BoldOn$; Field$(3); BoldOff$; Field$(4) ...
. . . this work. There should be some ascii or escape sequence for BoldOn$ and BoldOff$ to make Field$(3) bold when Word sees it. When I read in an .RTF file byte-by-byte it seems that turns bold on or off, but that doesn't seem to work here.
Are there any code sequences that will work with (or rather, fool) MS Word with regard to bold, italic or underline?
Thanks . . .
A Plain Text File To Render Graphics.
Just as the above says. Has anyone created anything like that?
Essentially, I guess I'd be looking for something very similar to a an HTML renderer. But without the scripting capabilities (I'd rather use stricter XML if possible). I suppose I could do call backs or perhaps use a look up table or some such to execute code. Nothing major or complex though.
I've been searching the web, but I'm afraid I'm not sure what search terms to use if anyone ever came up with anything even remotely similar.
A basic example of what I want to do is let's say that I have three circles on a form. Now I think I can manage the code to allow the user to click one of these three circles to bring up a color pallette to change the color of the circle. What I want to use the plain text file for is to be able to define more complex shapes such as squares, triangles, and any other shape I might like to create without having to recompile the program. This is not a full GUI per se where I'll be coding in complex behavior such as menu boxes, text boxes, buttons or anything of the sort. I'll use the standard VB components for that. Simple shapes, simple behavior.
Etracting Plain Text From Word Via Automation
Is there a nice way to do this Without saving the document to disk? I want to download a Word file 'blob', decode it with the Word object lib, grab all of the existing text and index it. (Basically an on-the-fly Word to plain text converter)
Font Formatting Of Plain Text Email
I have an application that uses the Outlook object model to send emails and it works ok sending plain text and html style emails. What I want to do is to format the plain text email (font name, font size, font colour, italic, underline, bold etc) programmatically in VB.
I've tried the Outlook object model and there doesn't seem to be any way of doing this (although you can of course do this when you create an email manually) and I've also tried passing the string into the word object model, using the search and replace functions of the word object model and then passing the string back into outlook (via the 'Body' function) but it seems to loose all of its formatting (if I save the word document the formatting has worked ok) which probably is no great surprise....
Any suggestions would be welcome as I'd like to offer formatting functionality for the plain text content emails as part of my application.
Thanks in advance
Printing Plain Text Files Without Using Word

I can Open, Close Read from and Write to plain text files, using VBA commands, but can't figure out how to print to the printer. Can anyone help with this one?

Replace On Specific Lines
Ok, I have a text file, and it has been written to already. There are three lines I would like to replace with whatever I chose, the lines are 23, 27, and 32. How would I replace ANYTHING on those lines to the word "No"? Thanks, any help is appreciated.
Using Replace() With Multiple Lines
I am having a problem with replacing a chunk of strings with absolutely nothing. For example, i want to do the following:
and replace all instances of

This is what i have:

Dim roffle2 as string

Which would be, (referring to the examples) Rawr.
So, in Text3.Text i get a:

Concating Rtf Text And Plain Text - How?
Here is the thing - i am using a list box to let the user select an item from it - to add to an rtf textbox.
The broblem is - since the user can insert the item from the list any where in the rtf text box, i am using the next aprouch:
firsrthalftext & list1.text & secondhalftext
if i use this concating of strings on the text property of the rtf - all works fine - but - (there is always a but)
some of the text in the rtf is colored - and when usinf this method of concating strings - the color of the text become all black after the first concat.
So, i tried to use the textRTF property - and here starts truble.
The first and second halfs of the rtftextbox will come out just fine - with the colored text intact.
However - the text from the list box - will not apear.
If i do that, and try to insert the item from the list at the beggining of the text - the item will be inserted - but inlarged with the addition "1".
I tried to use another rtftextbox to recive the item from the list as text - and move it from rtf textbox to rtftrctbox with textRTF - but then the item will allways apear at the beggininig of the text no matter in what order i concat the strings.
Any pointers will be welcome.
Outlook 2000: Convert To Plain Text; Move Cursor?
I have written a VBA macro to generate an e-mail from content I input via the InputBox command.
I put a line of content in the body as part of the Macro, then display the message. The cursor displays at the beginning of the body. I want it to display at the end of the body. Hey, I'm trying to be lazy, I mean productive, here. The following code does not work:
I get a compile error that wdStory is not defined. This is presumably because I am in Outlook and not Word. Is there a workaround for this?
Adding Hyperlinks To Plain-text URLs In A MS Word Document
Would anybody be able to show me how I could write VBA code to add hyperlinks to plain text URLs in a Microsoft Word document?
For instance, the document might have a bunch of paragraphs with URLs in them (e.g. http://www.google.com) that do not show up as hyperlinks in Word.
I am wondering how I could write a macro to search for these plain text URLs and turn them into true hyperlinks.
Thanks for your help.
How To Read A Large Amount Of Plain Text Into An Application From A File?
I have the user click on a number of labels which are all in a control array whatis(). When a user clicks on a label, I want the appropriate and corresponding file to be opened and read into the memory a few bytes at a time.
My current code is as follows, (the array means I don't have to have a different file open function for every label.
My problems are described below the code
Option ExplicitDim helpfilename(20) As String Public Sub whatis_click(index As Integer)Dim helpno As Integer helpfilename(0) = "whatdoesthisdo.txt"helpfilename(1) = "whomadethis.txt"helpfilename(2) = "whatisencryption.txt"helpfilename(4) = "whatisdecryption.txt"helpfilename(5) = "howdoesitwork.txt"helpfilename(6) = "howsecureisit.txt"helpfilename(7) = "useitfor.txt"helpfilename(8) = "discloseinfo.txt"helpfilename(10) = "legalegit.txt"helpfilename(11) = "upgrade.txt"helpfilename(13) = "modifyprog.txt"helpfilename(14) = "troubleshooter.txt"helpfilename(16) = "howdoiuse.txt"helpfilename(17) = "faq.txt"'Code here to read in an appropriate text file a few bytes at a timeEnd Sub
The index is of course the index of the label within the control array. Each index number in the array above corresponds to the file that should be opened for the index number of the label that was clicked in the control array.
What would be the best way to:
Read the corresponding file into memory without overflowing the memory or the variableRead it in only a few bytes at a time (each text file is a large passage of text equating to around 2kb to 10kb).
Load Ini File, Replace Some Lines, And Save It.
I am trying to open a .ini file to do a few line changes, it seems to work but I can't find a "simple" way to save it back to the file. It's curently in a variable called Otext as String. If I use Print Otext , the right thing appears but I have to send that to a file. Please help.
Global Text Replace In Multiple Word Replace
Sometime back, I stumbled upon a VB code (shown below), for performing word replace in multiple word files placed in a folder (global replacement). However, it has one disadvantage that this does not make the changes if the text appears in a "Text Box" or "Auto Shape". Please can some one help me modify the code so that the replacements are affected in these "Text Box and "Auto Shapes" also.

Moving Lines In A Text Lines
I am creating a replay for a game and I am keeping the info for it in a text file but after 5 seconds I want to clear out anything over 5 seconds old and continue to add. I can figure most of it out cept for the whole part about it removing the first line and moving the rest of the lines up. I am adding to the file every 1/2 second for 5 seconds. Heres what I have so far....
eplay.txt" For Append As #1TotTime = Int(Timer) Print #1, Int(Timer); "lblbox(" & Index & ")"If Int(Timer) - TotTime = 5 Then
lol, not much but I can't figure out how do move the lines. Would I just kinda have a second file and copy the lines into the new file and just clear out the old one and so on? But that doesn't seem like an appropriate way to go. Any help with this situation would be muchly appreciated. Thank you and good day.
