VB Application Saving Data To A Remote DB Via Web Service
I have some Tools created in VB and I would like to Save the data from a Workstation to a SQL Server DB that is located somewhere else, I don't want to make use of WAN though. Is it possible for me to transfer the data via a Web Service and the Web Service saves it to the Database? Also, is it possible for my VB Applications to query or fetch data from the DB via Web Browser? Do you have any source codes that I can use or explain to me how this works?

Thanks!

Create Share On Remote Pc

Share Your Desktop Screen To Other Remote Pc
Recently, I start to work with how to share a group of desktop screen to a singal admin pc. The first step is how to capture screen by fast way then convert the bmp(screen snapshot) to jpg, finally rescale it and send to admin pc by winsock. the following is the partial code about the image convertion.

Private Sub Timer1_Timer()
    Dim img As Long
    Dim buf() As Byte
    'MFreeImage is the wrapper for easy to use freeimage.dll lib in vb6, that already attach in the freeimage file
    img = MFreeImage.FreeImage_CreateFromScreen ' capture screen
    img = MFreeImage.FreeImage_ConvertColorDepth(img, FICF_RGB_15BPP, True) ' must alter the color depth
    img = MFreeImage.FreeImage_Rescale(img, 200, 150, FILTER_BILINEAR) ' resize it scale
    img = MFreeImage.FreeImage_ConvertToType(img, FIT_BITMAP) ' define the type of screen obj
    MFreeImage.FreeImage_SaveToMemoryEx FIF_JPEG, img, buf, FISO_JPEG_QUALITYBAD, True ' convert screen image(bmp) to
    jpg and save the jpg into byte array(buf())
End Sub

the above coding is work well, however it seem use a lot of memory resource, moreover it cause the desktop screen flicker during the capture process, so have anyone can help me to fix the problems.. thx a lot

Create Folder Share On Remote Computer
I have an application where I am providing the user the ability to
select or create a folder on a domain, using SHBrowseForFolder. When
the user selects/creates a folder on a remote computer, it returns the
UNC path of that folder.

Using ADSI IADsFileShare, I would like to create that share, but the
..Path property seems to reject the UNC. Is there a way of converting
that UNC to the logical drive path or some other way of setting the
path in order to Set the Share?

Much Thanks.

Hi, all

I develop a multi user application(VB) with Microsoft Access.

I have two method to run my application in the future, which one is the ost
better one, and why ?

I put all my executable and database into server, and create a shortcut n
each station/user that directed to my application in server.

I Install my executable file in each station/user, and put my database ito
server, and link all application to database in server.

Which method is the most better, or is there any suggestion for me, it wll
be nice.

Regards and thank you,

Running Service On A Remote Server
hi,

I have a service written in VB which resides on a remote server.

When i am logged onto the remote machine via rdp or mstsc (to get the console) the software runs correctly.

When i am not logged on the service does not run correctly and hangs waiting for user interaction to press a button on the dialog box.

what happens is that the service prompts with a dialog box to open,save or cancel, the service should then choose save and carry on, this happens when im logged on.

I thing the problem could be that the dialog is assumed to to be runnning in the background, and we need it in the foreround to automatically detect and press save.

how can it get it in the foreground or to think it is there ?

How To Let NET 1.1 And NET 2.0 Web Apps Share The Same Login Page (share The Same Cookie)?
We have two servers. Server A hosts .NET 2.0 web apps, Server B hosts .NET 1.1 web app. The login page is a .NET 2.0 web app on Server A. So when users access Server B's web app, the web app will redirect the user to the login page on the Server A. If login successfully, server B's web app will have to read the cookie created by the login page and see if user is authenticated. However, I found the .NET 1.1 web app cannot read the cookie created by the login page(Request.IsAuthenticated always return false).
I set the web.config on all app (both servers) with the same validation and encryption keys, and set the decryption attribute on .NET 2.0 app to "3DES". But it's still not working.
Any suggestions?

Thanks.

VB Application As Service
Good day everybody
We have created a application in VB 6.0.
But we need to it works as windows nt service. Could you help me?

What we did.
We created service application in C++ 2 years ago. Therefore we know how implement the interface for application in C++, but we do not how implement it in VB.

VB6 Application As Windows Service.
Kudos to y'all!!! I've finished creating a Time and Attendance application which uses biometric terminals to collect scan times from employees. This application would do nothing but calculate the in and out times according to our requirements and has only the ability to manage terminals (add, delete, configure, etc.). The data are dumped to an SQL Server database and the application receives data via TCP/IP with the help of the terminal's SDK. Everything's OK so far but there is one thing (actually two things) I've been thinking of. It's either to install this application as a Windows
Service or as a normal application that can be minimized to system tray. We intend to install this application on a server. But I'm afraid of the complications it might cause if I turned it to a service. I've found an article in Microsoft site not recommending this method. As a normal application, it'd be nice also to have it simply minimized on system tray and let it run on background. But the only problem would be that when for example the server is restarted, the application has to be opened like any other application. I know some o' you would suggest placing a shortcut of the application on the Start Up folder. I can do that using VB's normal installation package. But in VSI, I don't know how to do it. Some insight here?

An Application Or Windows Service

Now can anyone give me suggestion or some code sample pointing how to do this

Run Application As Systray Service
Hi,

I have an application that checks for messages in a POP3 mailbox by using WinSock.

The application runs in the system tray, but only when a user is logged on. Since I want this application to run as a service, independent of user logon, I want to know how to make this application run as a service. It runs a Windows 2000 Server.

These things I need to know:
- How to put messages to the event log (application log or system log)
- How to run independent of a logged on user
- Are there any special thing to watch for

Any advice is appreciated very much.

Debugging An NT Service Application
I am writing a VB application that will run as an NT service and am at a loss on how to install and debug this thing.

First of all, I believe that I cannot start an NT Service in the VB IDE and single step through the program so I debugged as much of the code as I could and then pasted this code into the code that registers the services etcetera. When I start the service the first code that is executed starts an initialization process. The code in this initialization process immediately attempts to write to the registery in the location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESECURITYCompany NameProduct... (This is the only registry location that a program running under the system account has privledges to access - MSDN article) Unfortunately the program crashes immediately with "Exception access violation 0xc0000005" which I am assuming is because the service is installed to run under the "system account".

I have tried numerous times to install the service (using srvinsw.exe) under another account but specifying a valid account that has been given privledges to "log on as a service" always produces the error "The account name is invalid or does not exist.".

Can anyone help?

Application As A Windows Service Problem
I have installed my application to act as a windows service using INSTSRV.EXE and SRVANY.EXE.

Application As Windows Service Using NTSVC.OCX
Could someone explain to me the how does this work. I have red the help file for it but i dont understand it so good. Here is an example i found on microsoft page:

Code:
Private Sub Form_Load()
Dim strDisplayName As String

On Error Goto Err_Load

strDisplayName = NTService1.DisplayName

If Command = "-install" Then
' Enable interaction with desktop.
NTService1.Interactive = True

If NTService1.Install Then
MsgBox strDisplayName & " installed successfully"
Else
MsgBox strDisplayName & " failed to install"
End If
End

ElseIf Command = "-uninstall" Then
If NTService1.Uninstall Then
MsgBox strDisplayName & " uninstalled successfully"
Else
MsgBox strDisplayName & " failed to uninstall"
End If
End

ElseIf Command = "-debug" Then
NTService1.Debug = True

ElseIf Command <> "" Then
MsgBox "Invalid command option"
End

End If

' Connect service to Win32 services controller.
NTService1.StartService

Err_Load:
' Error starting service

End Sub

In the example it says that application takes parameters and after that it installs what to where , i dont understand it...
Does it register current (my) application as a service, or i must pass some parameters containing paths of applications that i would like to run as a service...

And some more examples...

Code:
The Start event (Figure 2) receives a Boolean parameter that must be set to True if the event was processed successfully. By default, the control will assume that the event is not handled or that an error has occurred.
Figure 2. Start Event Handler
Private Sub NTService1_Start(Success As Boolean)

On Error Goto Err_Start

' TODO: Begin processing

Success = True ' Report success

Err_Start:
Call NTService1.LogEvent(svcMessageError, svcEventError, "[" & _
Err.Number & "] " & Err.Description)
End Sub
The Stop event (Figure 3) is the signal indicating that the service should terminate. You are responsible for freeing resources and terminating your processing.
Figure 3. Stop Event Handler
Private Sub NTService1_Stop()
On Error Goto Err_Stop

' TODO: Suspend processing and release resources

Is there any specific authentication for service applications on network that has to be done differently that share authentications ??

Calling An Application Through A System Service
Is there a way to run application B.exe through A.exe, which is executed by a system service (NT/2000)? The problem is my call shell comand works on Win95/98/ME, but on NT and 2000, the service which kicks off A.exe does not have permission to spawn B.exe. Can you specify the permission in the code? Hope this makes sense.

Start An Application As A Service On Win98

Is there a way to do this? If yes, could you give me some coding example?

Thanks before hand.
