It can handle multiple user groups (each with their own viewing rights), store data in a MySQL database or a configuration file, and be used to identify your Web site viewers. It also has multiple language support and session support for both PHP3 and PHP4.

adLDAP is not designed to be "the only solution" for connecting to Active Directory from PHP, but I do believe it to be a great starting point. LDAP can be tricky to learn, especially when coupled with bugs in Active Directory and Microsoft's inability to fully follow the LDAP specification. The information you can retreive from Active Directory is as useful as you make it. If you don't fill out all their account information there's not really going to be much to query.
