I have the Auto Arrange Icons turned off.But when I try to drag an icon somewhere it refuses displaying a circle with a line through it.I can Ctrl-X and Ctrl-V it to a folder somewhere else but that is not what I want to do.I have tried using 'Fences' (but it will not let me drag the items into the fences either (have deleted 'Fences' just in case it was causing the problem - it was not the cause of the problem).I don't have a lot of icons on my screen, but do like to arrange them.
I have disliked this "feature" since windows 7 and I see they still have not restored the ability to manually sort without having to give every file a "tag". Note: I do not want to use windows live essentials as I hate photo gallery, so this is not an option. I used to be able to arrange my photos by dragging and dropping them next to another similar photo and it would snap to grid where I dropped it. This eliminate duplicate pictures. I found this ink for windows 7:
Windows Explorer Auto Arrange - Disable. However it says very clearly at the beginning not to use it for any other OS versions. Does this works for windows 10 as well or if there is a way to do it in windows 10? I would prefer a 3rd party program as oppose to editing my registry if it can work (all the things that need "fixing" for customization in windows 10 seem to always suggest a reg fix, but I am afraid to edit my registry too much).
A: Is there an issue with explorer.exe crashing and reopening on build 10041? B: Is there a fix for this? C: how can I get this update because I can't use the main windows explorer UI and Auto updates are turned off?
So I have a bit of a problem where my screen flashes, I instantly thought it was display drivers so I uninstalled them only to worsen the problem, the computer restarted with a black screen which later turned into a desktop screen with no icons and a flashing screen (can't click anything or even load up the start menu with the windows key). I put it into safe mode but it does the same thing. Nothing works except task manager and i can't run task from it or it will exit out, system restore doesn't fix the issue either. Computer is a lenovo k450 i5-4440 8gb ram 1tb hdd with an evga gtx 760.
Desktop Icons move back to the left (default) side of the screen after customizing. this happens when the the computer is put into sleep mode and is woken up or when the monitor is turned off and turned back on. I upgraded to windows 10 Pro 64bit from windows 7 ultimate 64bit. This problem never happened with windows 7.
-Automatic Sleep mode is turned off - when I manually put computer to sleep mode and wake it up the icons are rearranged
-Automatic turn off monitor has been deactivated - when shut off my monitor but keep my computer on and then turn back on the monitor the icons have rearranged
-I have small icons setting
-Auto align icons has been deactivated
-allow themes to change icons has also been deactivated

I upgraded to Windows 10 about a month ago. Two days ago my computer is all the sudden automatically downloading some. Massive update that took a long time and rebooted my computer without prompting me.
After the download was complete I was able to use my computer seemingly as normal, but upon the next restart, the start menu wouldn't open, and the mouse wouldn't click on any of the icons. I tried a restart and got two pop up error messages saying something like "Windows failed to start properly." I tried a hard reboot a coupe times, same thing.
Google searched the problem, found this and followed the steps: How to fix Windows 10 start-up problems - Blackscreen, Bootloop, Infinite Loading [HD 60FPS] - YouTube
No luck. Now every time I boot up my computer it goes to the "automatic repair screen."
I have tried every option available from the "automatic repair screen" menu, including System Restore: because I just downloaded Windows 10, I had no restore points. System Image Recovery: it says have no image to recover). Start Up Repai: tells me Windows can't repair the problem. Command Prompt: I've been able to get in there but I don't really know what to do once there (tried what was suggested in the video above, no luck, everything was already set to zero) Startup Settings:WAS working, I was able to start up in Safemode once, still couldn't click anything and start menu still wouldn't work. Now when I click on Startup Settings and click the restart button to get to the Startup options it just brings me back to the "automatic repair screen" ...I think I've rebooted so many times at this point that my computer can't reboot without taking me there.
I've even tried the "reset this PC" option multiple times and every time it starts to reset, gets to 1% or 2% and then I get an error message saying something went wrong and the PC can't be reset.
Whenever I connect my laptop to the TV via hdmi cable my desktop icons are moved and auto aligned in vertical columns down the left hand side of the page (my desktop). I have to drag them back to where I want each time. It's a fairly minor nuisance, but is there any way to avoid this, I've searched but can't find a definitive answer.
(I've tried, right clicking and unchecking 'align icons to grid' but that doesn't make any difference, it still always happens).
There is a great feature in win7 explorer that you can arrange your music in the music folder by a few options such as albums, genre and artist. There is a way to get it again in win10 explorer?
I prefer to use the toolbar for multiple tabs, each with several links to launch programs. In Win7, I was able to arrange the order to my preferences, the most used programs at the top. Since I updated to Win10, some tabs are still in non-alpha order, and some not. If I rearrange them to my preference, the next time I open the toolbar tab, they are back to alpha order. How to arrange in non-alpha order?
I came home from shopping and turned on my custom built desktop PC and it gave me a BSOD. On the screen it said "system thread exception not handled". This only happened once

The search bar, lower left on the task bar, does not allow input for searching. It blinks, and does not allow for a question to be entered. Perhaps I've turned it off, but would like it back on.
I recently updated my pc software frm win 7 to 10.nw when I switch on pc after win logo display the screen remain blank fa abt 30 mins then it goes to sleep. This problem is happening after update to 10.
After the upgrade from 8.1 pro to 10, i noticed system protection was turned off. I went ahead and turned it back on and moved the slider back to ten percent.
I've been trying unsuccessfully to use Windows Update but keep getting the error code 0x800705b4. Windows Defender is turned off, and both Windows Firewall and Norton Anti-Virus has been temporarily disabled, but it still won't work. I don't know what's wrong.
I always used to set the turn off display after 2 or 3 minutes, everything was working fine with my old PC but after the new PC whenever the screen is turned off i can't turn it on again buy using the mouse or keyboard.
This problem was while using windows 8.1 and after installing windows 10 pro the problem is still there.
Tried turn off hibernate solution but with no luck.
Connection with monitor is throw HDMI cable with the internal Intel 4600 VGA Card
I fixed some issues on my of and now when the pc is off the USB ports remain on. Is there anyway where I can turn them off without ungplugging them ex: I have some USB lights for my pc and they are always on now same for my mouse lights.
My pc used to be on windows 8.1 and I never had this problem. Ever since I installed windows 10 I have noticed that it has been randomly starting up. I shut it down and then wake up the next day finding that it had randomly turned on during the night. It shows the log in page as usual with no signs of being locked, standby or anything else. it shows as if i shut it down and turned it back on again manually but i haven't. This only started to happen after I updated windows 8.1 to 10 so i dont think it has anything to do with the motherboard.
recently upgraded to win10 and that went well.. However on the last update (I think) that went bad. My pc now looses all apps when turned off. When restarted, I have to reload windows live mail and re-enter my email account. All my contacts seem to have been lost as is my email history.I use google as my web browser and I have to re-enter all my settings here also.
When turned on, my pc loads quickly but after logging on, it goes to "preparing windows" which takes some time before it is usable.
updates installed around the time of problem are;
kb3081448 kb3081449 kb3081452 kb3081444
..this is the update after which I think the problem started
I have windows 10. When I turned on my laptop it says that it updating and it stucks in 87% then I turned it off and after that I opened it it still updating?? Is it normal with windows 10 ??
Yesterday, I inserted a flash drive on my PC and it was loaded with trojans. I managed to clear them with Kaspersky but after that I noticed that all the hidden files in my C drive have turned Un-hidden. (Including desktop.ini's)
So I was doing a system restore on my newly upgraded Windows 10. It was stuck at 46% so I restarted it (which was a stupid thing I know). After that the laptop won't go beyond the black screen. Whenever I boot the laptop the lenovo logo appears and the black screen after and that's it. I'm really worried now.
Somehow not sure if a update did it but cortana got turned off and so did my location stuff, so what the defaults are as i never played with it much, but want to reset it to default?
