Installation :: How To Wipe Only C Drive And Reinstall OS

Feb 10, 2016

My laptop became a bit slow and explorer crashes often. So, to clean install, I am guessing "Reset this PC" should work.

There are 2 options "Keep my files" and "remove everything". I have partitioned the hard drive space it to 4 local disks and installed windows 10 on C drive. I want only C drive to be cleaned and rest of the disks data to be intact. Which option to choose?

Additional Info: My laptop came with Windows 8 and I upgraded to W10. So I am hoping this reset option wouldn't mess with activation.

How To Wipe And Reinstall OS On C Drive Without Wiping D Drive

So I'm wanting to start with a clean slate on my C: Drive (SSD) by blowing it all away and reinstalling windows. However I would also like to leave my D: Drive (HDD) as it is. Is it possible to do so without backing up my D: to an external drive as I do not have one?

As of my attempts so far the only options I have been given are the ones in my picture attached .....

How do I wipe my C: Drive but keep my D:?

How To Do A Fresh Install On New SSD And Wipe All Stuff Off Current Hard Drive

Aug 11, 2015

I want to do a fresh install of Windows on my new SSD and wipe everything off my current hard-drive. The reason why I want to do this is because my new SSD arrived and my drivers are a little bugged and I want to start over.

[URL] ....

That's the thing I'm going to be using^. I already have it on a CD.

So do I just plug in the SSD, then set the primary boot device to the CD? Then install Windows 10 64-bit to the SSD? That's it?

Also, how am I going to wipe my current hard drive?

Installation :: How To Wipe The Whole Disk

Sep 20, 2015

I am a total UEFI n00b, only having one PC with it all others being legacy BIOS systems. I know my way around BIOS and have now familiarized myself with UEFI settings, I think that in settings and how to change them / what they do.

My issues are with a clean install wiping the whole disk, and to understand the partitioning. This PC had an OEM German Windows 8.1 which I upgraded to 8.1 Pro, then replaced the German 8.1 Pro with an UK English one simply by clean installing a retail 8.1 Pro on top of the German one, not wiping the disk but the "traditional" way which simply moved the German OS to Windows.old folder which I later removed.

The UK English 8.1 Pro was later upgraded to 10 Pro Build 10240, further to builds 10525, 10532 and finally now to 10547. Now I would like to start from scratch, clean install totally wiping the disk.

Why three recovery partitions (white highlight in screenshot above). I understand the last one, it's the manufacturer's recovery partition which allows me to restore the original OEM German Windows 8.1. But why the two others? How do I proceed with clean installing Build 10547 wiping the whole disk? I tried it, got to disk tools in setup, removed all other partitions but the dialog didn't let me to delete the partition C: (yellow highlight)Essentially I would like to start from this situation (screenshot from this TF tutorial), whole disk unallocated space, partition it as I want to and install Windows. If this was a BIOS system I could easily do it, the Windows Setup Disk Tools dialog creating the System Reserved automatically when I create the first partition in that unallocated space, but UEFI seemingly lets me to delete all other partitions but not the C:

I have recent system images allowing me to restore this functioning system anytime I want to, making experimenting easy.

Installation :: Reset / Clean The Drives And Wipe All Files?

Feb 10, 2016

I am currently an Windows 7 Professional user, and I was seriously considering to jump to Windows 10.

After upgrading, I was thinking in doing a factory reset, in order to try to mimic a clean install of the system. When exploring the options on Internet, I discovered an option to clean de drives completely.

Currently I have 2 drives, my C unit where the OS and most of my software is, and a D drive, in which I have my music, documents, videos and other files not relevant for the system itself.

If I select the options to clean the drives, will it delete both drives or just the C drive?

Installation :: Complete Wipe Out Of System - Stuck On Finalizing Settings

Feb 10, 2016

I'm writing this before having to do a complete wipeout of my system

Lenovo Y510p
Hybrid HDD (Seagate) 1TB
m.2 SSD (Trascend) 256GB.

So, since build 9841 I've been using Windows 10 Insider Preview (IP) as my mainly driver. Until the recent redstone builds, Visual Studio has been plagued with problems (From Windows Universal Apps Development to ASP.NET) . I've installed Windows 10 IP in the SSD and have been using it very happily since I've had no major issues, until the ones I've outlined before.

In my Hybrid HDD I had Windows 10 RTM (10586) installed and didn't use it for a quite while (3 months). When these problems rose, I decided to start using that partition again, but out of the blue it decided to start giving me some serious problems: mostly, the whole XAML interface (Start, Volumen, Sound, Battery, etc.) didn't show up. After trying some fixes (From reinstalling Windows Apps to Creating a separate user), I decide to refresh the bits. Unfortunately, even after refreshing my machine didn't fix the XAML interface problems and even worse: I got no possibility to run Universal Apps.

I went and ran some hard disk checkups, from both: the Lenovo Utility and CheckDisk and none threw an error.

The actual problem: Yesterday (Feb. 4) I decide to clean install Windows 10 Build 10586 64-bit in the Hybrid HDD partition (without deleting the OEM reserved spaces) and I'm stuck now on Finalizing the settings. Is there a way to fix it? Tried hitting Shift + F10, but in that specific screen it does not work. In previous screens there are no anomalies.

As last resort I must wipe out everything in both drives and start from zero. I would not like to do that, since Visual Studio is so tough to install (takes too darned long). Is there a way to resort to an alternate method?

Possible To Factory Reset A Computer And Have It Reinstall Windows Onto A Different Hard Drive?

Feb 20, 2016

So i have 2 hard drives, one new and one beginning to die on me. I have windows on the dying hard drive, and do not have the original disks or product key. I tried using DriveImage XML to copy everything onto the new drive, but for some reason when it boots it says "Hard disk failure" when i have the just the new hard drive in there (i am 100% sure it is plugged in properly). I really dont have the money to buy a new windows disk, and so i was wondering if it would work if i were to factory reset my computer and have windows 10 reinstall on my new hard drive, or is there an easier way?

Installation :: Cannot Reinstall After Having To Reset Laptop

Sep 10, 2015

Long story short, I have had Windows 10 on my laptop ever since the second I could upgrade it. Last week my laptop got infected with a virus and would not boot up. I tried everything and the only solution that would work was to reset it to factory condition which brought my laptop back to windows 8.1. I no longer see any notifications popping up telling me I can upgrade to Windows 10. Is there another way I can upgrade or am I stuck with Windows 8.1 for good?

My question is: if I do ever need to re-install or recover Windows 10 on this laptop, can I do it with a DVD I burned using the media creation tool from Microsoft instead of the specific HP recovery app the laptop shipped with?

Again, this was an update to Windows 10, not a clean install.

Installation :: Reinstall Win 8 From Recovery MicroSD?

Aug 30, 2015

I really tried to like Win 10, but the mail not syncing, the virtual keyboard resetting all the time, not having Cortana or offline map in my region, oh and of course all the various BSODs made me give up after a month. It has promise, it may become a great OS, but right NOW, I simply can not work with it.

So anyway, I am on a Asus Vivo Note 8 tablet, I deleted windows.old after the install because of the lack of space.

I have a factory-made Recovery drive in the shape of a Micro SD card, which I plugged in, hit Reset system, just to end up with a clean install of Windows...10...

I read that you can download Win 8 to an USB and install it from there, but I DO HAVE a Recovery Drive so I'd like to use that, it has custom made drivers and MS Office and whatnot on it too. The problem is that I can not start the process. It will not auto-start if I plug the SD card in, it won't start by double clicking on it, and if I open it in explorer, there's only a folder called Sources with absolutely nothing on it.

Can I just randomly format the SSD and stick the SD card in and start the install or something?

Installation :: Image Corruption - Even After Reinstall From ISO

Apr 14, 2016

I have upgraded directly from a Windows Ten Pro ISO downloaded directly from Microsoft, but both sfc /scannow and Dism "restore heallth" run from an elevated prompt report that they cannot repair the image errors. Windows support simply says to "reset" from Update and Security from the Settings menu, but this machine was running CLEAN Windows 8.1 (sfc /scannow or DISM commands reported no errors) and resetting as they suggest will (at a minimum) mean that all of my installed software will be entirely lost.

I am desperate for a person proficient in restoring the integrity of a Windows Ten Pro image (have tried BOTH reinstalling directly from the downloaded ISO (multiple times and from re-downloaded ISO's and doing in-place upgrades). Both methods report the same errors upon reinstallation or in-place upgrade methods.

The running image is corrupt, corrupt, corrupt. What are the command(s) to restore it to health, as was the case with the previous clean 8.1 that was running before the upgrade???

Both Sfc /scannow and DISM restorehealth report that the image is repairable, but it is beyond my understanding how to do do.

Installation :: How To Do Full Reinstall Of Windows On Laptop

Jan 30, 2016

I have a Toshiba Satellite E45DW-C4210 (came preinstalled with Windows 10 so no disc obviously) & it came with some bloatware from Toshiba.

How can I do a "fresh" wipe or whatever you want to call it so only Windows 10 is on the laptop, I don't want any Toshiba software/bloatware on the laptop. Basically just barebones, as if I built my this laptop myself and put a copy of Windows 10 on it. That is what I'm looking to do. I just feel starting over again with nothing but Windows will improve the laptop.

I know you can do a system reset where it wipes all your data & re-installs Windows 10 but then the Toshiba's software is just installed all over again. I don't know if this is possible but if it is how can I achieve this?

Installation :: Need To Remove Other Non OS Drive

Aug 17, 2015

I'm pretty sure I'll be upgrading my desktop this week while I'm on vacation. I've done my laptop with no problems at all, it's a Dell Latitude E6400 with Win7 Pro bought refurbished from Newegg. The laptop was a mid 2008 model and W10 works great on it.

My question is about my desktop drives, my OS drive is an SSD and my backup drive is an HDD. There is nothing but the backups and system image on the HDD, it is an inside the box drive connected to the second SATA on the MB. Is there a chance the W10 upgrade will put it's boot loader/manager on the backup drive?

I have seen posts where for best results, all drives except the one being upgraded/clean installed on should be disconnected to avoid the boot loader/manager showing up on another drive. I can do this but it's sort of a PIA due to pulling the tower out, disconnecting cables, and opening it up. Then repeating after the upgrade to put things back.

My backup drive is an HDD with nothing on it other than backups which are done every Sunday night. There is no OS on the backup HDD.

Background is, I created another partition on my 120G SSD (30G) where I've been dual booting 7 and the W10 TP's, the plan is to delete that partition and recover the space for the W10 upgrade. Then have a single partition with W10 on my 120G SSD C drive and to continue to use the WD 500G for backup and system image. I will create another partition on the backup HDD for the W10 backups (right now I'm using a 100G partition on the HDD for Win7) and keep the Win7 backup and image until I'm fully on and comfortable with W10.
