Performance :: 100% CPU - Brand New Machine

Feb 10, 2016

I am trying to upgrade a number of machines to Windows 10 Pro. Latest one is a new laptop - fresh install and after it has been running a while it comes up at 100 CPU and it is something to do with Service host local system. This is not the only machine to be affected by this and what I have done to fix this is disable the windows update service.

BSOD :: Kernel Security Check Error On Brand New Machine

Dec 26, 2015

I have a 3 day out of the box, Asus Zenbook pro. I am getting the BSOD fairly regularly.

I have updated both display drivers from the manufacturers website, the WIFI driver, as well as the BIOS. Everything else was up to date. I have done a hard reset, and chose to have the drive wiped during the install.

I have installed, and uninstalled the few apps that I have had time to put on here, but after only 3 days, I don't think I have given myself time to narrow down if it is a software conflict.

Performance :: Machine Intermittently Just Stops Working?

Oct 17, 2015

I have three machines with Win10 Pro. Two behaving quite well, however one machine ABit IP35 Pro, 256 SSD, 1 TB hard drive, Nvidia 750 ti, 8 GB ram just intermittently just hangs up during operation. This is a very fast machine with a quad Intel Processor. This machine ran perfectly with all of same hardware on Win7 Pro. You can just move the cursor to send an email and we get the little blue circle and the machine is hung. It is not program dependant! Same thing can happen working in any browser.

Performance :: Using File History To Recover Files From A Different Machine?

Jan 14, 2016

I had File History turned on an old machine that I'd upgraded to Windows 10. The machine was working fine with File History backing up files to an external storage drive. The machine died recently (motherboard completely not working) and now I have a new machine with Windows 10.

However I want to restore my files from the File History backups I had for my old machine, but I can't figure out how to make it work. Whenever I try to use the same external location as my File History drive it just makes a new backup with a different folder for my new machine.

How is this supposed to work?

Brand New XPS 13 - Why Can't Get App

Jun 29, 2015

I just recently got the new XPS 13, and when I was setting up my machine, it asked me if I wanted to reserve a copy of Windows 10, which I did, of course. But I haven't seen anything saying or confirming that I've reserved a copy of Windows 10, and there isn't a Get Windows 10 app in my system tray.

BSOD :: Brand New PC Keeps Crashing?

Nov 30, 2015

my brand new Skylake (Scan 3XS) PC keeps crashing. I had Windows 10 Home originally, but upgraded to 64-bit Pro version and a fresh install. I thought it was down to Bitdefender. Everything seemed fine once I uninstalled it. However the BSODs are back. A common theme is that PC seems to be running for a long time when this happens.

I would get random freezes from day 1, and suspect it might be the RAM, despite memtest86 showing no errors.

AVG And Spybot Using Half Of RAM On Brand New CPU

Dec 13, 2015

I got a brand new cpu, just 2 days ago. It's not superfast or powerful, it is an I5 3.2GHZ with 8GB RAM. But all I use my cpu for is reading news on the web, watching youtube and writing papers. No gaming etc. When i got my new cpu 2 days ago I did download and install AVG antivirus and spybot search and destroy. I'm on windows 10 and with these 2 programs running in the background for protection, I'm using about 50% of my CPU Memory. Is this bad? Should I make a change or remove spybot?

Clean Install On A Brand New SSD

Jan 29, 2016

I currently have an upgraded Windows 10 on my HDD. I'd like to do a clean install on a new SSD.

Migrating everything to the new SSD isn't a viable option for me as I don't have the budget for a big enough SSD with all of the programs and files i want to keep.

Drivers/Hardware :: Cannot Format Brand New HDD

Nov 25, 2015

Purchased a WD 6TB Blue yesterday, ran disk management and created one partition using NTFS. Formatted and did its thing but it just displays the total size of the partition with RAW next to it. Tried reformatting again to NTFS but I get the error; "The format did not complete successfully".

Deleted the partition and tried to create a 2TB partition out of the drive with the exact same scenario happening again. Tried swapping between GPT and MBR with no success. Also tried a different SATA port with a different cable and same thing.

Ran Windows error checking and WD LifeGuard on Extended Test over night and both came back with no errors.

Ran Disk Part in cmd, after entering in clean i get the error; "DiskPart has encountered an error: The device is not connected. See the System Event Log for more information."

Brand New Computer Freezes After 2 - 15 Minutes

Mar 15, 2016

Friend of mine bought a new computer for his son and i built it together. The specs are as follows:

HDD: Samsung 850 EVO Series 250GB
PSU + Case : Cooler Master Elite 310 Silver / Black - EVGA 500W White
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX970 G1 Gaming 4GB
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B150M-DS3H DDR3
Memory: Crucial BallistixSport 2x4GB 1600MHz
HDD2: Seagate Desktop HDD 2TB 7200RPM
CPU: Intel Core i5-6400 2.70GHz
Fresh install of windows 10.

Everything boots up fine, i get into windows and drivers etc gets installed, then suddenly everything freezes completely, no bluescreen, no event viewer errors, just basically "stop" and nothing works.

I tested this so far:

Disabled all onboard stuff in bios, tested to reinstall the windows about 10 times, tested 1 piece of ram, 2 piece of ram, and ram from another computer, same with GPU and HDD's and PSU (basically swapped everything from another computer except motherboard and CPU, still same thing happens).

What puzzles me is that the computer works 100% fine, nothing seems wrong, then it suddenly locks completly. all temperatures are fine, all performance is up to par, everything seems in order. Games run at max fps etc (if i even manage to start em before it freezes).

Drivers/Hardware :: Brand New PC Mouse Right Click Not Working?

Dec 18, 2015

I have just bought a brand new Viglen Omnio 5 all in one PC pre loaded with Windows 10. Everything works fine except that when I go into file explorer and try to right click on a file to edit/copy etc it just hangs and locks the whole screen. The mouse works perfectly on everything out of file explorer. I know this problem has been around for a while but I cannot find a solution anywhere. Because the OS was preloaded I don't have any driver discs.

Drivers/Hardware :: Buzzing Sound Through Brand New Headset (and Other Headsets)

Jan 7, 2016

So I'm trying to get an external microphone (on a headset) working on my recently bought HP laptop (it's the Star Wars LE here), last night I was testing my headset but there is a really loud buzzing sound even when there's absolutely no interference in the room.

I've tried updating all drivers and even went and bought a new headset today for $40, so its definitely not the headset. In control panel I don't have Realtek Audio Manager (I did on my old laptop), but I have this "B & O Play" software which is a basic alternative. I've tried messing with those settings to no avail.

My older headset is one which has green and pink jacks, so I have a splitter for those, but my new headset has a combo jack so it connects directly.

Here's the weird part though, control panel > sound, whenever I talk into the mic on the headset, it actually comes through the "headphones" under sound:

But in recording, the microphone (which is seems to come through) doesn't have any kind of noise level, but if I disable it, the mic on the headset stops.

(The other mic available is the built in one for the camera).

Graphic Cards :: Brand New Out Of The Box Computer - HDMI Port Not Working

Mar 5, 2016

Just unboxed my computer from CyberpowerPC, GTX 720 graphics card, installed/updated all drivers with drivereasy (paid for just now) and I am still having the issue with HDMI port not working. I have tried to plug into a monitor and a TV, neither are working, I have also tried to use multiple HDMI cables, still does not work. My monitor has an auto-switch source availability and turned on, when I plug my computer into the monitor with HDMI it continually cycles, finds no signal and goes into sleep mode. Then rinse/repeats until I either turn off the computer, monitor or just unplug the monitor from the computer. Currently I am using a DVI(computer) to HDMI (tv) and its working fine. So I know its the port on the computer. Do I need to contact CyberpowerPC to send the computer back to get this issue resolved?

Machine Won't Start Correctly

Jan 3, 2016

Because my Windows 10 machine won't start correctly, I'd like to make a Startup Repair USB drive. Apparently, the main way to do this is from within Windows 10, but that's obviously not an option.I have access to a Windows 7 computer. If I make a Startup Repair drive there, will it work on Windows 10?

If not, can I at least use it to boot my computer and run chkdsk and sfc?Is there some website where (using my other computer) I can download the image of the Windows 10 Startup Repair, or something like that?

Can't Get Local Search Results On One Machine

Jul 31, 2015

Yesterday I upgraded two Dell laptops and my desktop machine to Windows 10.

1. Search - On my two Dell laptops if I search for, say, User Account Control, at the top of the search results I will get a local result saying Change User Account Control settings. That result will be in grey. But on my desktop machine, if I enter the same search, I don't get any grey result at the top. All I can get on that machine is web results. I don't know what's different. I have initialized Cortana on all three machines the same way (I think). Why I am not getting local results on the desktop machine?

2. One of my Dell laptops has a fingerprint reader. It was working for logins when I had Windows 7 on the machine. Now that I have Windows 10 on the machine I cannot figure out how to get the reader working again.

What are the procedure? As far as I recall, in XP time, we needed to call MS when we changed machine.

After viewing logs this file: NvStreamKms.sys is set to "demand start" and the next entry is the computer waking.

Out Of Disk Space Warning In New Machine

Sep 13, 2015

Bought a 8.1 desktop last month. The store upgraded to Win10 for me. It came with a 1TB drive that now says it has 0 disk space. Something is going on. Ever since I got the first "running out the disk space" warning today, the machine has really slowed down. I opened File Explorer and sure enough, it said I had 0 space on my C drive. I cleaned up some temp files and rebooted. Now File Explorer says I have 211MB of the 1TB free instead of 0. Is this a partition issue, a Win10 upgrade bug or ?
