Wallpaper Slideshow - Can't Change Folders

Aug 12, 2015

The slideshow app successfully changes the background on schedule, but I can't change the folder. No matter which folder of jpg pictures I select, it always returns "Not items match your search. If I change mode to a static picture for the background, the app DOES find several available jpg pictures in whatever folder I point toward. The slideshow part of the code is apparently looking for something other than jpg pictures. Is there a way to see/modify the code that runs the app?

Networking :: How To Remotely Update Lockscreen Wallpaper Slideshow

Oct 9, 2015

At my company, we have about 20 laptops that run Windows 10 and are connected on a local network. All are domain-joined and connected through AD. One of my favorite features of Windows 10 is the lockscreen slideshow. This is what you initially see when you boot your PC, and is displayed with the time, date, and other icons. By selecting multiple photos, Windows will create a nice slideshow and display them on the lockscreen. I have about 30 photos in a folder that I've used to create a slideshow.

Here is what I'm trying to achieve. I'd like to set every machine on the network to have a lockscreen slideshow using those photos. I could do it manually, but that poses two problems. One, it's very time consuming, and needs to be done for new PC's as well. Secondly, I'd like to be able to add new photos to the 30 I have, and have them add to everyone's lockscreen slideshows. If I manually added them, I'd have to go to each machine to update with the new photos.

One solution I was thinking of was to point the directory that Windows gets the slideshows from to a network share that contains the images. But I worry about what will happen when a user is away from the office and doesn't have network connectivity to that drive.

The best solution I can think is to have a script that will copy the lock screen photos from a network shared folder to a local folder on C when connected to the network. It would need to only add photos that aren't added already to avoid duplicates. That way, the files are locally accessed, but can be updated remotely, and there aren't any issues with leaving the network. The script could be distributed through group policy.

Customization :: Slideshow - Select Images Not Folders

Nov 17, 2015

When making a slideshow in Windows 10 for the lock screen and the desktop background can you select individual images from folders instead of selecting an entire folder? Win 7 could do this and i used it and liked it a lot.

It's not a huge deal but i didn't want to make copies of the images to put in a "slideshow" folder and also leave them organized in their original folder so i can actually track them down later.

Customization :: Can't Change Background / Wallpaper

Aug 4, 2015

When I go to Settings -> Personalisation -> Background and try to change my wallpaper to one of my own pictures nothing happens. When I choose one of the Windows pictures (that one of the guy running along the beach with those big rocks in the background for example) again, nothing happens. The only thing I can do is change it to another solid colour.

Bizarrely, on my wife's account (we're both Administrators) she can change the wallpaper to whatever she wants.

Customization :: Wallpaper Change Time?

Aug 1, 2015

I was using Windows 7, and using too much wallpaper at background. In windows 7 i can set the change picture time to minimum 10 seconds. But in Windows 10 this time is minimum 1 min. This so long time for me because i want to see all my wallpapers a short time. Another problem is there is no Shuffle options. How to shuffle the wallpapers.

So there is any way too change this setting. Maybe in regedit?

Background Slideshow Won't Change Image

Aug 7, 2015

I've been trying to make my desktop background be a slideshow of images rather than just 1 image. I want the images to change frequently, so I have it set to change every 1 minute.

However, after setting up the slideshow last night, the same image has remained my background for several hours, not changing once. I've double-checked the folder that is linked for the slideshow, and it does contain more than one image - in fact it contains 18 images.

I've attached a screenshot of the Background Settings screen. How can I get the slideshow to cycle through the images?

Lock Screen Wallpaper Stuck On Windows Spotlight - Unable To Change In Settings

Oct 6, 2015

It seems like my Lock Screen wallpaper is stuck on "Windows Spotlight". When I try to change to "Picture" or "Slideshow" in settings nothing happens, and when i choose "Slideshow" and then "Windows Spotlight" the preview turns grey with the loading indicator and nothing more happens.

Would really like to be able to choose my own lock screen wallpaper, though Spotlight is a pretty cool feature.

Change The Displayed Title Of Folders?

Feb 10, 2016

Is it possible to change the displayed title of folders, which have been pinned to the Quick Access list to something other than that of the folder-name itself? IOW, change it to a title of my choosing.

I do realize I could simply change the folder-name itself, but that's less than ideal under this system's circumstances since this it has specific folders backed up daily, and they occasionally need to be restored, which would overwrite this change each time a backup was applied.

Change The Way Folders And Files Displayed In My Documents?

Aug 31, 2015

Is there a way to change the way the folders and files are displayed in My Documents?

I recently upgraded to 10 but I have a slight issue with 'My Documents'. Most of my files are in folders in My Documents and in Windows 7 I was able to filter by most recent updated with folders listed first followed by the documents which are not saved in folders. I have not found a way to duplicate this convenient display in 10.

Customization :: Change Spacing For Stacking Multiple Folders / Windows That Are Open

Jan 6, 2016

I recently upgraded my win 8.1 pro to win 10 and I have an annoyance.

When I have many (read about 15) Firefox windows (NOT TABS) open they stack vertically (from taskbar). Like this picture is showing (only shows 3 of the windows.):

What I'm trying to do here is remove or lower the spacing between each window. To make the list tighter.

I've found the same true for multiple open folders/drives (explorer windows). It's how things are sorted when they can no longer be thumbnails.

Browser/Email :: Windows Live Mail Suddenly Very Slow To Change Between Email Folders

Oct 20, 2015

I have been using Windows Live Mail for years and have 3 email accounts synced in it. After some recent changes to my PC, the program is suddenly very slow to change between email folders. What I mean specifically is if I click on one inbox, and then click on my deleted folder, there is literally a 5 second delay before the view is switched to the new folder. This has never happened before, it normally take mere milliseconds to change between my email folders. Switching between any folders at all, even if they are empty, takes 5 seconds!!

As for the changes made to my pc, I recently was screwing around with my drive partitions and made a really stupid mistake. I accidentally created a new volume which took up my whole secondary HDD (not my OS drive, but where my emails are stored). Some quick google searching got me a free software that recovered my partitions and after a quick reboot my PC appeared to be working fine again. Except for Windows Live Mail... which when I opened had lost all my email accounts. I re-added them, and for some reason they started to download all my emails from the internet and wouldn't recognize the mail folders where all my emails are stored on my secondary hard drive.

It took over an hour to download all the emails again, which were stored in the default location on my OS drive. I normally keep them on a secondary HDD to save space on my OS SSD, so I was forced to delete all the emails on my secondary HDD where I normally keep them and then direct Windows Live Mail to move all the emails it had just downloaded to the location I just deleted my emails from.

So at the end of the day I made a really dumb mistake, fixed it, and then had to do this weird workaround solution to get my email storage working the way I am used to. All this screwing around now when I use my email it is super slow to switch between folders...

I have already tried doing a full defrag of the drive where my email is stored, as well as a repair of windows live essentials from the control panel. I have heard that addons can cause problems like this in WLM but until today I didn't even know WLM had addons. What I can do before I try reinstalling Windows Live Mail. If I do that I will have to re-download all my emails again...

Customization :: Lost Desktop Wallpaper

Today I have suddenly lost my desktop wallpaper screen just all black accept for my few icons down the left hand side of the screen and the taskbar along the bottom. Have checked in my settings, personalization page and their all there but it will not accept any change to the screen and display it. As I am still learning to use the new windows 10, I accept that it could be my own fault while I am exploring the new systems I tried going back over all the things I have experimented with.
