Our ASP web application uses connection object from global.asa. We hard coded Uid and pwd in global.asa.
Is there any way we can encrypt this Uid and Pwd in global.asa, or can we access them through environment variables, if so can some one give me a sample of code( to access environment variables through asp code.)
Is there any way to attain the names of the tables in a database from using either ADO connection or ODBC or any other type of connection.
The reason I wish to do this is so that I can display all the information in table (field names and values - this piece of code works) from a dynamic SQL statement.
When I try it on original server, it works, but when I moved everything to a different server it does not work. I have checked the dsn name, userid and passs. But no luck.
Error [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified
We hosted our asp based application under windows 2000 server with sql server 2000 as backend. All the asp module works fine with internet explorer version 5 but same application is giving odbc error when we run the application in IE 6.
The exact error is : Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005' [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified xxxxxxxx/login.asp, line 27
I am trying to learn how to retrieve information from the database. I am not too familiar with ASP but I was told to use it. How do I go about doing this? What specific aspect of ASP do I need to learn?
I have made a registration form for adding my friends information in a database. The problem is that I want to connect the persons with companies in the same database. I wonder how i could connect a person to several other id's in a table.
I wonder if I can make a string in the database that holds all the id's separated with , for example....?
the string would then look like this: 1,4,6,22,56 for example...
But how can I then open this string and separate the numbers from the , ???
I have a form that when the user inserts the password data it is supposed to update the member info in the database with the password but instead it just adds a new row with the password and leaves the id requiring the password blank. SO it does add to the database but just not in the correct row.
i have been trying to get info from a form into a database on the server for months, i have one form page and one asp page that should send the data to the database on server heres is my code for both pages. here is the form page:
I'm trying to update a database from a form, but only by updating the info that was changed on the form (if that makes sense.) Basically, the problem I am having it that the if statements I have setup to build the sql isn't working when the database doesn't have any info in that field. Code:
I have a database on my server that houses information regarding trouble tickets. I know how to write asp page to take the inputted info from a form and put it in the database but what I would like to know if someone could show me or point me in the direction of a good tutorial that shows me how to list all the content in my database on a web page.
For instance I would have a page titled, view all tickets, then on that page would be a listing of all the tickets and their information with buttons to add, delete or update ticket.
I can display information to a webpage from a database and handle the connections etc. My next task is a bit more complicated for myelf. Id like to have a page the pulls information from a record set and displays like this.
down one side
the container numbers
along the top
the products in the containers
the information in the middle would be the amount of product that came on that container.
Im just wondering how the best way to setup my database would be, and the best way to setup the asp webpage. (oh) nearly forgot, it has to repeat the information till all the records are finished but i guess that gos without saying.
I have a table in an Access database that is called news. Inside that table is a field name called newsNews. I'm trying to get that is in that field to display on a page and her is my code:
I have 'upgraded' my website from MS Access Driver to JET 4.0 driver. Additionally I used Include files for the connection string, so that when I put the program on another website, I only have to change 1 file not 160 files. So far so good. The upgrade to the JET driver has had some problems, problems not experienced in 4 months of smooth operation by the MS Access Driver.
The JET Driver did not like square brackets in the SQL string(these are often placed here by Access, when testing strings). The JET driver did not like my field name called 'position'. It totally stuffed up and I had to change the name of my field in the database. Took 3 hours to work out the problem!! The JET Driver did not like the field I called Day, had to change it's name to weekday.
The reason I 'upgraded' to the JET 4.0 driver is that it is meant to be better and it allows me to use a password to protect the database. Can I have a database password using the MS Access Driver, in case I get stuck again, does anyone have the syntax?
Except for extremely basic ASP programming that I did two years ago and have forgotten I have not touched coding since!
I've taken a look at a couple of tutorials but they all baffle me!
Can anyone tell me how I can just create a simple html form with input fields of FirstName, LastName, Email and Phone amd when the user hits submit it is recorded in an access database?
I can do the HTML part fine. And I believe I've set up access ok although Ive never used it before.
Also, if the server that the database will go on is a Microsoft one i suspect that is ok? Im not sure if all i have to do is upload the database and it will work? or do i need to talk to my hosting company to set up some kind of odbc thing that ive heard about?
My database will just be called clients.mdb and the table is called Customers.
Code: while (!MyQuery.EOF){ Response.Write("<tr><td colspan='2' class='results'>" + MyQuery('Title') + "</td>"); Response.Write("<td align='right' class='results'>£ " + MyQuery('Price') + "</td></tr>"); MyQuery.MoveNext(); } I have that returning a record set to display ! I then need to make it so the "Title" is a link to a page with all the information shown for that book! How would i go about doing this ?
I work with ASP for several weeks now and i really like it! But until now i have just used it in connection with my localhost. I made connections to a SQL Database and to an ACESS Database with using the ODBC Tool from WIndows!!
Now i want to publish my website but i don't know how to handle the connection string kind of thing. My MySQL-Database is on a different server than the website and i need a connection string where i can type in the server, a password and a username and it should then connect.
I have two forms, one on each page. The user fills the first, then the second, then on the third page all the information is displayed for the user to make sure thats what they want to send.
Then they click submit on the third page and it goes through a database and depending on which category, state and county the user selected it will email all the information displayed on that third page to all the emails in the Email field in the database.
Now, I already have the first and second pages(easy enough) and the third page I can get it to display all the info how I want it and now I need to know how to go about emailing that info to the emails that match the specific fields? Right now all I have it doing on the third page, instead of submitting it for emailing, it just displays the info from the forms AND emails that match from the database. Code:
(the actuall connection string is in my global.asa file incase u were wondering) ...or if the database can't be found or opened, will run some other code... like a message?
hope u get what i mean.
this is just incase a user has the DB opened, or is in the process of overiting the DB or something, the page would not display that Microsoft JET Database Engineerror but display a message i set up in the if/else statement.
I have created a database called "myshop.mdb" Then I create a System DSN connected to that database called "OE1" The following code retrieves attributes and possible errors from the DSN Code:
I have been trying to get an intranet search page to work that looks at an Access database. The database is called database.mdb, and lives in the root of the site, as does the .asp (security is not a problem at the moment). The code was taken from an asp website. I am running .net and Windows server 2000. Could someone look at the code and tell me if it looks OK for connecting to the database? Then at least I can rule out code as the problem I am having.(receiving error codes)
I am getting this error at all my ASP pages. A sample page which pulls the categories from the Northwind database is enclosed below where I get the error when I am trying to open a recordset with that SQL query and Connection. Code:
I would be glad of some help being new to ASP. I manage my department information through an Access relational database and an http network model database. Naturally enough I want to combine them. We have an old NT driven LAN with pc's running Win 9x or XP pro. The file server is nearly up to capacity on storage and bandwidth, the new XP machines have plenty. The network is backed up daily. If possible I want to use the XP m/c as a web server. I want to use IIS and ASP from an XP m/c to read and write to databases on the file server but can't seem to get the connection string right, I have tried many, with and without DSN's. Having checked up on IIS (installed on XP pro) I suspect that it can only connect locally. Certainly everything runs on a test setup in C:/inetpub/wwwroot which can be accessed across the LAN and ASP runs fine.
i want to open a connection for password protected database but i don't want to write password in code as it can be seen by my host provider and misused is there any way I can read database password without writing it in my code.
I have one database, but nine web sites all linking to this database for client input.hen I use the domain web site that the database is atored under, the ASP page updates the database as required. I have been using the following connection:
"DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=C:domainsmyweb site domain namedbmy database.mdb"
Now I have saved this ASP page under one of my other domain names and have tried using an ODBC connection as follows:
"DSN=ODBC Connection;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};Dbq=my web site database domaindbmy database.mdb;Uid=Admin;Pwd=;"
Unfortunately when I complete the ASP page on this web site, and submit, the database is not being updated with the records.
