I have to fix an asp database site, that may or may not have ever worked properly. I keep getting the following error:
"ADODB.Recordset error '800a0cc1' Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal."
I have researched and found that this is happeneing most likely because the script is requesting a field that doesn't exist in the database (maybe a mis-spelling). I can't find the code to display a list of columns in the database.
I thought its more space efficient of displaying the data in multiple columns (let's say 2 columns for now), instead of one loooooooooong column in a table, are there a simple script of coding that can do just that? How about 3 columns?
I will be eternally greatful if someone can provide snippet of code, URL or reference material that shows how to display data in a "n colums * n rows" format.
I am new to ASP and have looked everywhere that I could, but I have not found an example where data can be formatted to be displayed in a 3 * 4 foramt, like many of the professional sites would do (actually rows and columns can be any number of rows and columns) All the examples that I have seen, show data displayed in a top down format.
Im comparing values in a field while doing a loop if sAct<>myData(5,i) then At the end of the loop I make the value of sAct equal the current myData
This will work when comparing other fields withing my recordset (so I know the statement works) but it will not work for the field I want to compare. The only difference with this field is that it has null values. Could this be the problem? if so, how do I deal with nulls?
I have a page that has a form on it which has a dropdown list on it. It connect to an sql database and populate the list. What I would like to do is make the list editable so that if the data returned doesnt contain what I want, I can type in the data I require which will then be updated to the database when the form is posted. Hope I've made sense, you may be able to tell.
What I would like to happen on this page is that when a user selects a company name from a drop down list, his selection autopopulates the cID field based on the selection. The drop down list is getting its choices from the customer table.
As I am still a novice, I am sure there is a way to do it I have not been able to get it right. Code:
I have a survey/member form that gathers information. I would like to have a drop down list on a page that a user selects, either 1, 2 or 3.If 2 or 3 I would like to show on the form another field for information gathering ie:if a user has 1 cat, fields for cat name, sex & age show.
if a user has 2 cats, 2 fields show instead of one for each, and the same for 3.....

I have a large classic ASP web application which needs to now support chinese character entry (I don't have to worry about the UI yet - the data entry people can read english). Other than changing the database fields over to "N" data types, do I need to do anything to the actual entry fields (input, textbox) on the various forms to be able to capture the information. Some users will be entering the information in english, while others will be translating the same info into chinese as they enter it.
I know this is probably much easier in .net, but we have yet made that transition. Now that 2.0 is available, it should be much more viable.

I have a page that adds data to an Access DB. When an employee adds a record I want to compare the phone number from the data they inputted to all of the phone numbers that are currently in the database for that field.
If the new phone number currently matches any record in the DB I want to have an alert that notifies the employee that a record with that phone number exists with the date that the first record was inputted and ask whether they want to continue and add the the new record or cancel the addition of the new record. Otherwise, I want the data to just be added. At this point I have a Case statement that will add the record after a submit button click.
