I am not using forms, I am not using cookies, I was told not to use Session
or Application variables, it's a variable being passed just the first time a
page is accessed, after that links will send the variables.

When I go to pick up the variable through request.querystring, it will
never diplay the "%" if one is included. It will diplay any other
characters included in the variable though.

I used to use the querystring but there is a limit to length of the querystring.

i have setup a form on a normal http page which collects name address etc and is then passed to a https page to collect credit card details, on clicking submit on the https page the credit card details are inserted in db on secure server along with one field that was passed from the http page (the user id).

My goal is to retrieve my local machine's %USERNAME% environment variable
from ASP page.
When I enter http://RemoteServerName/testusername.asp?id=%USERNAME% directly
into the IE Browser URL box, %USERNAME% is repalced with the local machine
ID. However <a href="http://RemoteServerName/testusername.asp?id=%USERNAME%"> get mahcine id</a> in an html file and use Request.Querystring("id") to retrieve it in testusername.asp page, it returns "%USERNAME%". I guess IE browser is smart enough to replace %USERNAME% with the local environment variable value before sending URL string to the web server when you type directly into the Browser URL box.My question is , is there any way to retrieve local machine's environment variable, %USERNAME% from ASP page?
