I have a text file where each record has two fields, name and number, separated by a delimiter. I would like to sort the file contents by the second filed, number, and display to browser. I can do this in php readily, but not seeing how to do it in asp. Can it be done?
View RepliesI've gotten a subroutine to almost work as I want it to, but it's refusing to show the newest file. It seems to choke on files created near midnight, just never showing them at all, and the date compare is showing an equal number for two different dates, though it surely shouldn't.

The object is to show most recent file first, oldest file last. I have some leftover code in here to organize files by month created, but I removed the folders for debugging. The program moves any files created the previous month into a folder on the first of the month.
The folder name passed in is an X for recent files, a folder name (like 2005_04) when the files were sorted by folders.
What I'm hoping for from the intelligent people in the forum is either an eyeball on the subroutine to help me find where it's losing the midnight/most recent files, or a better idea on sorting by created date using the file system object and asp only. (NO recordset objects.)

Is it possible to print the contents of a file located on the server. This file is a txt file and must be printed without the header and the footer.

I tried to read a text file from my local com, but it keep on loading and loading, after tat, i'll need to restart my IIS... im sure tat the directory of the txt file is correct... The code is running very well in another com, is there any kind of permission/ something i missed?
View Replies View RelatedI have created a intranet site for a small department in the company i work for. Thanks to the help of these forums I have dabbled into a small bit of asp to automate a few manual processes.
One of the problems I would like to overcome if at all possible is as follows.. There is a network drive for which all the department have read access, the drive is full of useful documentation on processes and how too do things!
The major problem is that there are soo many documennts and different directories tat it would be a nightmare to try and search for what you want.... so this leads me to my question...
Is it possible to have some sort of google type relavence search that not only examines the filenames but also the contents of the files... (the files are mostly excel and word docs).

All I get for output is the last line of the text file twice.
Note: The content.asp that I'm trying to load in does not contain any ASP. All of the content is HTML.
I'd like to process an ASP page and pipe it's contents out to a file.
I can do this easily in PHP by using the php executable on the command line through a cron job(unix). Is there an equivalent for ASP? I see it as a less complicated cache.
So far I've only been able to output the actual script lines to a file. I want ASP to intrepret, then output.
I was looking for a method to store the contents of text file within a variable. So far I am able to read the text file and output the results using the write method. Going a step further I also wanted to replace a particular string within those same results using the "Replace" function. This works as well.
My question, how can I store the final result that write's to the screen so that I can reference it later. If you run this code, I basically want to take the verbiage that displays on the sreen and place it into a variable. Code:

I have a JS/ASP application that sorts a SQL populated table.
This works great, and sorts the data fine, apart from my currency columns.
It wants to read the data as text as far as i can gather. Ths data in ASP

I've lurked on here for awhile but I've come upon something I'm having trouble with.
I have a database table of movie titles and I want to sort by the column, but ignore the articles in the title, "a", "an" or "the"... "The Lion King" would be under L... "A Bronx Tale" would be listed under "B", etc.
Does anyone have a function that does this or know of another method? Or am I forced to enter them as "Lion King, The", for example?
Which would be faster?
1) Bubble sort
2) Join Array remove empty delimaters and then Split.
I am thinking the second would be a faster routine wouldn't it?
I have a form that is created dynamically, and all is working fine. But I want users to add an sort order to help list phrases in a certain order.

And one clicks on the form, and a SQL statement is executed.
However, when I create the SQL statement,
INSERT INTO table1
(FormId,AdvantageId,SortOrder)
VALUES (<call from form ID>,<advantages>,<advantsort>)
Then it loops to allow the next phrase to be entered. The statement also takes the value from every other sort order value including that ones that are in different lines. Which in result, gives me an error, saying the insert columns exceed that of the available columns in the table.

I'm trying to sort the fso. The file names are named june2004, july2004, august2004, ect... I need to sort them in chronological order starting with the latest one first.
The files were recently created so sorting them by the modified or created date will not work. The only other way is to them by the name of the file. I tried converting name of the file into a date using CDate (formated the file names as July 2004, August 2004, ect...) but it did not work. Code:

This gives me all results containing both "Crimson" and "Skies". But I want a result that contains exactly "Crimson Skies" to appear first in addition to the blended results.
When I try to sort rows of records in asp with sql I cant get them coming out right. The column I'm trying to sort has record values such as 63, 254, 98, 7 but when I try to sort them ascending I get 254, 63, 7, 98 but I want 7, 63, 98, 254. Please help because its been annoying me for ages.
