Basic Stack Hanging - Program Kept Running With No Result
Nov 16, 2014
I was doing some exercises of a java tutorial website, and realized when I ran the code that they had , my program just kept running with no result, why is this? It just hangs.
package mystack;
public class MyStack {
private int maxSize;
private int[] stackArray;
private int top;
public MyStack(int s)
Right now I have three stacks. Each stack holds characters, with the normal operations of pushing and popping. I am trying to compare two characters from stack1 and stack2(each character is a digit character). I would like to be able to do arithmetic on the digit characters and the push the answer on to a result stack.
Ex.) I pop character '3' from stack1 and '5' from stack2. Then I add the two. equaling '8' and pushing that character on to the result stack. This will hopefully in turn allow me to add arbitrary large numbers that integers will not support.
I am having trouble because I believe I am getting some ascii character values when I pop off the result stack. here is a small piece of my code
public void addition() { char temp1 ,temp2; int i = s1.getSize(); for(int j= 0;j<i;j++) { temp1 = s1.pop(); temp2 = s2.pop(); if(temp1+temp2>=10)
Below is a method that is suppose to insert a value inside a stack based on the index. I thought it would be easier to copy the value, if any, that was in the index into the variable holder and replace it with the input value. After in which it would copy the holder value and place it at the top of the stack. (topOfStack variable is what the holder is copying too.)
public void pushExact (int index, String input) { String holder = ""; if (maxSize == 0) { theStack[topOfStack] = input; topOfStack++; } else if (topOfStack + 1 < maxSize) { for (int n= maxSize - 1;n >= 0;n--) {
maximum heap size is set at 1.5GB and consumption of memory at peak load is about 1.1GB. when it reaches 1.1GB, application starts to hang. what could be the problem? shouldn't it be hanging at the point where memory is about equal to the max heap setting? no heap dumps were generated. is this due to server hardware or something? already got the garbage collection data and nothing seemed unusual.
Here is the outline of what the program should do: [URL] .....
So far I've got the very basics in place, I can't really figure out ptplot despite trying to research it online. The only other thing I know is that arrays are not to be used (initially I intended on using them). Here's my code:
//The next line imports the java.io package import java.io.*; //Imports math language import java.lang.Math; //import ptolemy.plot.*; //Sets up class public class cp5 { //Declares class method called 'main'.
Basic console java program. I need to generate an employee id. I have an employee class that I will paste here so you can see my fields and constructors.
public class Employee { private String firstName; private String lastName; private int id; public int nextUniqueId = 0; public Scanner sc = new Scanner(System.in);
Write a program to request a student number and their marks in 4 subjects. The program must print the student number, total marks and average mark. All outputs should be printed with suitable labels
This is the error am getting
Scanner get = new Scanner (System.in) - got a red line
int student number, total marks, average mark - got a yellow bulb with a red exclamation mark on it.
I just dont understand where the errors is where what the system dont have ... I am using netbeans ....
I tried to write a program to implement a stack but it has a bug I am unable to solve.The bug is that whenever I choose an operation to perform, eg push, After performing the operation, the loop is executed once again and Invalid choice message appears, i.e. the default case. And then the loop again executes to choose further option. Here is my code
class Stack { private char[] stck; private int len; private int top;
I am trying to figure out stacks and queues and was trying to get this Palindrome program working so I could then play with it and use the Java visualizer site but for some reason the program isn't working correctly. It always states that the input is a palindrome no matter what the user input is.
The book that I got the code from is a little old so I changed a couple small things that I thought needed updating like adding scanner. I wanna use one with a custom array based stack and queue class rather than the java.util.Stack and Queue interface, just for understanding stacks and queues better hopefully.
import java.util.Scanner; import javax.imageio.IIOException; public class PalTest { public static void main(String[]args) throws IIOException { Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in); PalindromeTesting x = new PalindromeTesting();
I have to create a program that takes a list of student names and grades and then takes the 2 highest scores and reads them, but the result won't show. I'm pretty sure it's because I'm not sure about how to code the last part which should output the results. Here's my code.
import java.util.Scanner; //Reads input and outputs 2 highest scores //for loop. nested for. public class HighestScores { public static void main(String[] args) { //create values String studentName;
I'm getting back into the swing of things with Java after using I'm asked to utilize a simple GUI in order to take in the starting data, I cannot seem to get this to work. I'm getting this error Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException
at java.awt.Container.addImpl(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Container.add(Unknown Source) at Input.buildPanel(Input.java:53) at Input.<init>(Input.java:27) at InputDemo.main(InputDemo.java:5)
I have printed the result of my program into an output file.
For some reason I can't figure out how to get the file output.txt to actually print.
I've tried printing it like I would normally print a file but it's not working.
Java Code:
final PrintStream console = System.out; File file = new File("output.txt"); PrintStream out = new PrintStream(new FileOutputStream(file)); System.setOut(out); System.out.println(collection.toString()); System.setOut(console);
What do I do after this? mh_sh_highlight_all('java');
I want to create java program in which i want to inherit stack and queue from a linked list class and also make infix to postfix inherit from stack and periority queue from queue class.Ho can i make this program.
i have a program in UNIX directory /home/me/java/src
package bin; public class HelloWorld { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println("Hello World"); } }
I have manage to compile it successfully(class file will be in bin directory) using command below: javac -d /home/t_bmf/java/bin HelloWorld.java
My problem now is how would I execute the class in bin directory in UNIX? I already tried different ways on how to execute it as suggested in my internet research The one I tried is this:
java $CLASSPATH:.:bin/HelloWorld but I got this error message: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: :/:bin/HelloWorld Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: :.:bin.HelloWorld
I have tried to get my dinky little program I wrote to be stored as an executable through Eclipse to no avail. It seems I have tried everything else as well, to no avail. I do not want it to go through command prompt, but rather have it be its own entity. As you can probably tell my knowledge of Java and coding is limited, but always willing to expand.
And in the server log there is a long list of comments, the first which looks to be of significance to this issue is:

I had some questions about a theoretical java program. Say you had a java program on a linux server/pc that referenced a folder on that server. And say you had a Client PC (Windows) that had a share folder to that java program.
If that windows client PC tried to run the program would it run (with a GUI if it had one) and would the main directory of the java program still be on the linux server or would it be on the windows computer since that is the computer that is running the program?
Basically I have a program I am trying to find the best way to run it remotely on a windows computer but it references files on the linux server it is located at and needs to put files it creates there as well. I am just trying to make sure I understand my theory here on how the program will run if it IS run remotely.
I made a software using Netbeans and javaswing. Accidently i deleted my main file which contains my main class and main method. Just to test, i tried to compile and run and it worked but the style of my buttons and windows has changed. So, what happened? How can i change the style of my programs?
//File Accidently deleted package time; public class Time { public static void main( String[] args ) { Window wdow = new Window(); wdow.setVisible( true ); } }
I am trying to run my program through netbeans and I get a message: build-impl.xml:1048 the module has not been deployed. see the server log for details.The corresponding line in the xml document is:

the issue has something to do with connecting to the database since it ran fine before I added the database related code.

Why this extremely simple program seems to be giving me a negative value for amount of calculations done within one minute ( Just using it as a bit of fun to see how different computers in the office perform).
Java Code:
class Benchmark { public static void main(String[] args) { long endTime = System.currentTimeMillis() + 60000; int count = 0; for (int i = 0; System.currentTimeMillis() < endTime; i++) { double x = Math.sqrt(System.currentTimeMillis()); count = i; } System.out.print(count + " calculations per minute"); } } mh_sh_highlight_all('java');
I am getting results between -2.1billion and -3.4billion which to me would make sense since they are not the best computers in the world but I would be expecting a positive value?
My mad lib program was able to store my three notepad text: noun, verb, and story. I would like to find out what is the best way to make it display my result randomize my story from notepad? once everything is stored?
import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; import java.io.*; import javax.swing.*; import java.util.*; public class StoryProject extends JFrame implements ActionListener
I have a program that is a XML-parser, and it works fine when I'm running it from NetBeans. But when I create a JAR-file and run the very same program, it cannot find the xml file. Consider this small program that addresses my problem:
