Form Based Parameter Query With Multiple Controls Used For One Criteria

Nov 14, 2012

My form-based search mechanism uses controls to set the parameters for the query data source.

I have one field call quantity in stock. I could you a Between and And method to allow the end user to input the stock quantity they want.

HOWEVER, i would love it for the user to first select the Comparison Operator (e.g. > , <, >=, <=) from a combo box and then in an adjacent text box, enter the quantity.

The expression i entered in the query goes something like this.... Forms![frmSearch]![cboRange] & [Forms]![frmSearch]![txtQuantity]

When i try and run this, i get the message "THe expression is too complex to be evaluated".

Query Criteria From Form Controls

Dec 1, 2006

How do I use the current value in a control on a form as the value for a criteria in a select query and for the update value in an update query? I must be messing up the syntax somewhere. I have written a macro to run the query. The button is located on the form so I would like to be able to click on it when the values I want to use for criteria are showing on the form.

I currently have the criteria is entered as
[Forms]![xtestupdateqry]![Licensee]

where [xtestupdateqry] is name of the form and [Licensee] is the name of the control I want to draw the current value from. When I run the macro I get a message saying I am about to update 0 fields. I must have my criteria wrong???

How To Handle Multiple Null Values Using Form-based Parameter Queries

Nov 19, 2012

i'm creating a search form giving the end user a range of controls to use when filtering/searching data. See the image. But, i think my range search (using the textbox) to put in a lower and upper limit...is preventing this from working. In fact, when i put data into all the controls, no data pops up in my subform.

My query data source can also be seen...showing you how i've handled teh null entries. (i need to put in a null 'handler' for the two textboxes?)

Forms :: Parameter Based Query - Filter A Form Based On Another Form

Mar 20, 2013

I have a form which uses a parameter based query to present an individual senior doctor with a list of names for of individual juniors to provide an assessment report on. When the first form opens the user enters their RespondentID.

Once senior has decided which names to comment on I have another form which has the questions to be answered which is opened by clicking a button on the first form.

How can I pass a parameter from the first form to the second so that only the records relevant to that senior doctor are displayed? The underlying table has 60 senior doctors and 20 junior doctors. The senior doctor is identified by the field RespondentID in the first form. I've tried putting a WhereClause in the FormOpen command but I still get a dialogue box asking for the parameter RespondentID when the second form is opened.

Chart Based On Form Based Parameter Query

Mar 22, 2006

Hi all,

stuck on this, not sure if it can be resolved....

I have a parameter query for which the parameter is based on a form field entry (i wanted to avoid the dialog box popping up).

No problems with this....however, I want to create a chart based on the same query however, i get the following error message because it does not recognise the query parameter.

Error Message: The Microsoft Jet database engine does not recognise '[Forms]![frmChooseDTDate]!DateOccured' as a valid field name or expression.

Can this be resolved?

Help most appreciated!

Query Based On Multiple Criteria With Check Box's

Nov 18, 2004

I have a table(Product Change) with these fields:
Tracking Number
Approved (a check box)
Engineering (text box that represents department)
Purchasing (text box that represents department)
Quality (text box that represents department)
Production (text box that represents department)
Customer Service (text box that represents department)

I want my query results to show all records that have the "Approved" check box...checked, and then only the records that have one of the Department fields with a null value.
So I'm looking to see only records that are "Approved" and out of those....only the records with at least one department field empty(Null).

Any help doing this is SQL view would be great...or even design view.

Print Report From Form Based On Multiple Criteria?

Nov 17, 2006

Hi,

I have the following code which i found on another thread on this forum (thanks to original author) which is attached to the On Click of a button which prints the report corresponding to the details displayed in the form.

Dim strCriterion As String
Dim strMsg As String, strTitle As String
Dim intStyle As Integer

If IsNull(Me![ReferenceNumber]) Then

strMsg = "You cannot print a Blank Form!!."
strTitle = "Print Error"
intStyle = vbOKOnly
MsgBox strMsg, intStyle, strTitle

Exit Sub
End If

If Me.Dirty Then
Me.Dirty = False
End If

strCriterion = "[ReferenceNumber]=" & Me![ReferenceNumber]
DoCmd.OpenReport "DoC Certificate", acViewNormal, , strCriterion

This works fine, however, i need to be able to select the report based on more than 1 criteria. For example, the Reference Number can be repeated but is distinguishable from each other by an Issue Number i.e. ReferenceNumber = 93, Issue 1 or 2 etc. At present when i run the above it prints all versions of, in this case, reference number 93, which given that each report is only a single page isn't a show-stopper but it would be nice to have it working as i would like.

I have tried adding to the strCriterion line such as strCriterion = "[ReferenceNumber]=" & Me![ReferenceNumber] and "[IssueNumber]=" & Me![IssueNumber] but no joy. I have tried bracketing the whole line and variations thereof, again no joy.

Can anybody tell if what i am attempting to do is possible and if so how do i go about it?

I have tried the above coding using MasterID which is the Autonumber PK but it produces an "Enter Parameter Value" box for MasterID. Obvioulsy if i can get it to work for the Autonumber then my problem goes away but i can't seem to figure out why it works for Reference Number (Number) and not MasterId (Autonumber)?

Regards

Alan

Queries :: Access Database - Query Based On Multiple Day / Date Criteria

Jul 26, 2015

I am currently working on a project to develop an access database to manage a roster of calls to clients on a daily basis based on two general criteria:

1. Pre-determined days selected by the client. (e.g. Call Mon, Wed, Fri only. This can change as client requirements change.)

2. Ad-hoc changes based on the client’s circumstances. (e.g. No call from 27/7/2015 to 29/7/ 2015)

I have managed to successfully deal with the second of these with the following expression in a query:

CallToday?: IIf((Date()>=[NoCallFrom] And Date()<=[NoCallTo]),"No","Yes")

However dealing with the first is a little more difficult to work out. I have tried a multivalue lookup field with multiple days selectable, but constructing an IIF query to deal with these multiple values is proving quite a challenge.

I am thinking of using a table with days of the week and a junction table to allow the multi-selection, but I may need constructing the relationships and the query here.

Access Query To Filter Out List Based On Multiple Row Criteria From Another Table

May 10, 2014

I have an access database in which I have a table A and table B. Table A has a list of 200 website URLs. Table B has one column ID and another criteria.

I want to create a query to filter websites list which does not have values or characters from table b.

I have these values in table B that I want to be filtered out or not shown in my URL Select Query

.org
.gov
.du
.pk
.dk

I would keep on adding more criteria into this so criteria table so adding new criteria into table B should not disturb our filtering.

Below is what I have tried but in vain and it says atmost you can atmost one criteria row in sub query

SELECT tableA.WEB_ADDRESS
FROM tableA
WHERE ((([tableA].[wEB_ADDRESS] Not Like '*'+(SELECT * FROM tableB)+'*')=True));

Cannot Run Multi-table Parameter Query With Criteria Specified In Form

Dec 7, 2011

I've created a farm database, with a form (frmSearch) that will allow user to filter data. The form comprises of combo box and list box etc... for the user to input their own criteria. The subform below has a datasource. The data source is based on a query (qContractionSearch) which is basically a parameter query with 3 tables. The problem is, however, that it won't work with 3 tables... but will work if data source comprises just one table.

See the farm database attachment...and go to frmSearch...then go to Contraction tab. (The Cattle tab filter works fine-it only has a single-table datasource).i have a requery macro which runs whenever the user clicks 'search'.

Forms :: Preventing Double Booking Of Room In Form Based On Multiple Criteria

Aug 13, 2015

I have Table for rooms called Rooms, and the data in the table is roomNumber which is in the format Letter and two Digit number, so A01 would be dorm building A and room building 1, and I then have a seperate row named roomType that is either VIP or Semi Private.

Now I am creating a form where a worker will put in there scheduledCheckin date and scheduledCheckout date and it will be written to the Bookings table. I would like this form however to take the dates they have put in, as well as room type (Semi-Private or VIP, and assign them an available room that isn't booked at all in that range) or list all available rooms for that range of time and they could then just select the room. I would rather it automatically assigns an available room based on room type though because this check in system is going to have about 500 rooms.

I've attached a link for what I have so far. I know how to make a query to list anyone who has booked rooms over that date, but need one for just preventing booking the same room.

Queries :: How To Count Records Based On Multiple Criteria From Multiple Tables

I need to know how many tasks have been "reopened", the "reopened" status is located in the "TaskStatus" field in "tblTaskHistory". I need this count against a unique listing of employees which can be found in the "AssignedTo" field in "tblTasks".

Query For Populating A Form Based On Different Select Criteria

Feb 20, 2006

Hi all,
I have a query which populates a form called EditPatientFrm, which asks the user to enter the patient UniqueID in order to pull up the record they want to edit from the TblPatient. However, I want the user to now be able to input just one of three criteria in order to pull up the record to be edited:

UniqueID
ChartNumber
PatientLastName and PatientFirstName (two fields)

since they may not have the UniqueID readily available to them.

Can anyone show me how to do this? I have tried to find answer to this one under queries and forms- no avail. Sure it's a simple thing...

thanks!

Establish Criteria In Query Based On Form Text Box Value

Sep 10, 2007

I sure am having difficulty with this. I'm trying to have the criteria in my form refer to a text box within one of my forms which is the text as I would write it myself within the query design view.

Query's [DEST_ZIP5] criteria = [Forms]![Mainswitchboard]![QueryWizard].[form]![calcDestZip5]

[calcDestZip5]'s value in QueryWizard form = "55422" OR "55343"

Basically, I just want to be able to enter the text string within a form instead of within the query. Sure this can be done!

Oh, and for what it's worth...
If, [calcDestZip5]'s value in QueryWizard form = "55422"
Then the query runs just fine. It's as if the query doesn't want to accept multiple criteria from another source.

TIA

Queries :: Set Criteria On A Query Based On If A Form Is Open Or Not?

Jun 18, 2015

What I want to do is set the criteria of a query to the value on a form if the form is open, and set it to a different value if the form is closed. I tried using a function on the OnLoad event of the form to set a variable called IsOpen to 1 if the form is open, and reset that variable to 0 when the form closes, but when I tried using the variable in an IIF statement in the query criteria, I got a "Its too complex" error.

Here's what I really want to do. I have a very complex form with multiple tabs and subforms. The subforms populate based on a query of what is selected and loaded into a textbox control on the first tab of the form. The first tab has a subform that is based on the main table. Rather than recreate that form, I want to copy it and change the rowsource on the first tab to a subset of the main table, and tell the query to use the textbox on the new form so I don't have to go and replicate all the other subforms. Is there a way to do that or am I just screwed?

Multiple Criteria In Query By Form

Feb 8, 2006

Hello all,

I have a form that feeds a query with information, in my query I have this:

[Company] Like [Forms]![QBF_Form]![Sales] & "*" Or [Forms]![QBF_Form]![Sales] Is Null

When I fill in a value in the field e.g. "data*"the query brings up all information with the word "data" in it.

However, when I fill in something like "data* or vent*" I don't get any query results.

How do I change the query expression above so I can search for multiple criteria in one field using "or"?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Select Multiple Criteria For Query On A Form

Oct 14, 2005

I was searching through here looking for a solution to the following problem:
I am building a Capacity database for work. The requirements require that users be able to sort by numerous criteria (Forecast Date, Portfolio, Market, Bucket, Month), all from a simple form that will spit out the results. Rather than creating unique queries for each combination of criteria(way too many!) or creating the SQL text in VBA, I played around until I came up with the following(which may have been done already, but I can't find it on here, so I'm not claiming to be brilliant...LOL). I have dropdowns on my form for each sort criteria-(Forecast Date, Portfolio, Market, Bucket, Month)

Then I created a query and for each criteria, I put this in:
Like (IIf(IsNull([Forms]![frmWAOFAdjustments]![Bucket]),"*",[Forms]![frmWAOFAdjustments]![Bucket]))

So if the user leaves a dropdown blank, the query simply brings back all the results from that field (Like *).

The text in bold is simply replaced with the dropdown name for each segmentation criteria. Next to each dropdown is a button that clears the dropdown box and requeries the listbox with the results(in case the user doesn't want to remove a criteria. This makes running searches for a specific number of accounts easy for the user and easy on me..lol.

Hopefully this can help someone out with a similar problem. I have learned so much from this forum, I just wanted to give something back. If anyone has any questions on this, just let me know.

Queries :: Set Up A Query By Form With Multiple Criteria

Jul 29, 2015

I am trying to set up a query by form with multiple criteria. For the majority of the criteria I'm using the format: Like [Form]![formName].[txtInputboxName] &"*" .

I copied the Like (...) &"*" from someone else in order to allow for multiple, optional criteria, which does do the trick, however I don't understand why.

I now want to set up a criteria on my query to search for values between two input values to gives the records in the range e.g between 50 and 100 Following the above format, I want to put something that achieves this:

Between Like [Form]![formName].[txtInputboxName1] &"*" AND Like [Form]![formName].[txtInputboxName2] &"*"

with Inputbox1 being 50 and Inputbox2 being 100, however that code doesn't work and I don't know how to get around it as it keeps giving the 'incorrect syntax' error.

If i tie the query to the form, each field has to be populated for it to work. how do i set the query up to effectively use the information available and not require all information?

I have tried setting VBA code as follows:

If Me.Combo1 = Null Then Me.Combo1 = "*"

However, when i do this, it updates the form field with an asterick/wild card but does not include in query. yet, when i update the form fields with data (not asterisk/wild card) the query runs.

Queries :: Running Query Based On Form Text Box Criteria With Special Features

Dec 18, 2013

I am trying to run a query and display the results in a report (the report side of it is childs play and not a problem). The problem I am having is that I have a search form which should allow the user to search any one of 6 fields (text boxes) or a combination of each.

If the user enters something into a field then that search criteria must match. I wanted to have it so if all fields are left blank then it will show all entries in the database (but it isn't, it shows a blank report). I also wanted it to allow partial completion of boxes.

So for instance if I have 5 customers (Jones, Jonson, Jonus, jimjonkins, Janis) and I type "Jon" into the name field then I would like it to show the first 4 records as they all contain "jon" somewhere in their name but its not, its only allowing exact matches.

I currently have '[forms]![Search_Customer]![Search_Name]'.
