General :: Import Data To Excel From Access Without Retaining Link

May 11, 2015

Is there a way to import data to Excel from Access without retaining the link ?

I have a table and two queries (from that table) that I wish to export to a specific (Templated) Excel file.

I want to send the data to the Excel file then be able to subsequently copy and paste and email the file without any data connections etc.

Alternatively : to export from Access to the templated excel file.

Excel Import Link To Access Is Broken - Data Won't Update

Apr 12, 2014

I have a workbook which has links to access to import data. I have to have the information in Excel for a couple reasons:

1.) Many of our customers don't have Access.
2.) The customers use a "discount calculator" to apply their own discounts.

They also use it to then apply their own margin mark ups to be able to then use to quote to their customers. So a static report/pdf for them to look at doesn't work.

I've begun to create links from a number of queries in Access, which work fine. My problem is when I go to update the data. I'm not getting the following error coming up:

The database definitely hasn't moved. And I've run the queries in q, and there aren't any problems there. I've looked this error up and I'm seeing that it could mean that I've got some corruption going on.

Before I hit my main q, I should also note: I'm running all of this on a Citrix network. I should also note that it's a consulting gig. Once I'm done, I won't be available to fix major issues like this.

General :: Cannot Use ODBC To Import From / Export To / Or Link To External Microsoft Access

Mar 16, 2014

I am trying to create an ODBC link to a copy of the Northwind data base.I am running Win7 on a 64 bit operating system but am keeping office running as 32 bit for Access, Excel , Visio etc due to the fact that I have a lot of old apps tied to them.

When I attempted initially to create a new system DSN ODBC connection it only allowed me to use SQL drivers. (No plurry good) So after some searching I found out that I could use a file in C:WindowsSysWOW64 called "odbcad32.exe" which has allowed me to view /use the total list of drivers to import data.So I can set up a DNS ODBC named Northwind1 and I can access the database without problems using Excel. However if I try to use the same ODBC link in Access to connect to Northwind1 I get the following error message:"You cannot use ODBC to import from export to, or link an external ?Microsoft Access or ISAM database table to your database".

General :: Link Excel Files To Access DB

Sep 11, 2012

So I've just started with a company where my job is to manage a ton of data. I am new to Access (2010) and am completely impressed by all the awesome things it can do. However, I am running into some issues with knowing the best way to get my current data (which is all in Excel spreadsheets) into Access.

We are working with about 68 customers in 6 different focus areas (or areas of improvement). To make it easier for them, my company has not required them to enter all their data for each area into a centralized database. Instead, we are pulling reports (into Excel) from 3 different databases. The customers who are not currently submitting data to these databases are sending us Excel spreadsheets with their data (they send a seperate spreadsheet for each focus area). So you can see where my problem lies ... NOTHING is the in the same format. Even then the Excel spreadsheets look different from month to month (and customers submit a new, updated form every month with the current month and previous months) because the people managing the data before I came along changed the format a few different times and the customer has the ability to change them too.

Basically, I would really really really like to be able to just link the Excel files to my database, but I am struggling knowing how to do that with my data in so many different places and forms.

General :: Import From Excel Raw Data Ongoing Automatic

May 2, 2014

I am trying to automatically import student data from excel into an access relational database structure to use the data to report progress in an ongoing manner.I have managed to import an excel sheet with the raw data and I analysed it through the wizard and have produced a clean relational database with the data.

I was wondering, now that I have the access database structure defined, is there a way to now import new data from another excel file (new data with same headers) to the newly created relational database? I was hoping to append to the existing data with only new data from the excel sheet.

I have an excel file with Student names and what units they are enrolled in. I also have fields where results are shown with the date. So the data looks like:

Joe Bloggs Unit1 PP 1-01-2013
Joe Bloggs Unit2 PP 1-01-2013
Joe Bloggs Unit3 PP 1-01-2013

I have attached a picture showing the structure of the relational database that works.

Jul 25, 2012

I need to import an excel file every week into Access. The file is always saved in the same folder called "Current" however the file name changes week to week because of a date and time stamp.

For example this week the file is named:

Weekly_Internet_Order_Matchup_Converted_Channel_Su mmary_20120721_080603
next week it will be
Weekly_Internet_Order_Matchup_Converted_Channel_Su mmary_20120728_074452

Is there a way for me to import the file by ignoring everything after the "y"?

Import / Link Excel File

Apr 22, 2005

look for the best method. I have another software to work with my access. End of each month, ProgramA will generate an excel file with the monthly data. I want to import/link it with my access. I first try to import it everytime I generate the new excel file. However, there are one line at the end of the excel file with does not match the feild requirment, and generate an error table in access saying a number field cannot have string.

Then I try the link method instead. This time, it would work at all. The first time is OK, but the next time, I guess more lines are generate than the orginal in the excel file, it could not open up. Number of columns is the same.

The best method right now is to delete the last line of the new generated excel file, however, because I am not the one using it, I want to have a better method for my co-workers.

Are there ways to import excel data except the last line;
or
Are there ways to import excel file without an error table generate

Thanks :)

General :: Date Import From Excel To Access - Type Mismatch Error

Sep 17, 2014

So I have a macro in excel which imports data from the excel sheet to a table in access db. Now the excel file has 4 columns which have dates.

- I imported the excel file from access via access so that I can get the heading of the table and the table is created. Then I deleted all the data in the table.
- When the table was imported 2 of the date columns got set as Short/text data type. Dont know why.
- Now, if I leave the data type as it is in Access table, my macro button in EXCEL works fine and imports the data to Access. If I change the data type, in access design, of the two data columns to date type, I get the type mismatch error when I run the import macro button in EXCEL.

I am going nuts over this error. I even created a blank table in access and defined data types to all columns which would be imported from excel. but still excel macro button shows the same error.

I checked the format of all the four date columns is date.

I did a lot of hit and try and could it be the case that if access table fields are defined properly, but any of the data columns cells in excel sheet is null/empty, it will show the type mismatch error.

ALTERNATIVELY, is it possible and is there a way, that once the data is imported to access, I can convert the value in the column from short text to date type.

Modules & VBA :: Export Data To Excel Then Link That Workbook Back To MS Access

Apr 17, 2014

I have a question about the best way to go about linking an excel workbook to an ms access table? I have researched hyperlinks and attachments and ole objects and I am not sure what is the best option. I believe hyperlinks will be best, because the attachments will bloat the database, but I am not sure how to go about doing that in vba? My process is such:

1)Users enter project information
2)Users enter the sample information for each project
3)The project and sample information is combined by a query
4)The user clicks a button to print forms, which runs the query and opens an excel workbook template.
5)The data is exported to a specific sheet in the workbook
6)Using vba in excel, the data is used to populate cells in different sheets depending on critera.

After all of this is accomplished, I need the user to SAVE AS the excel workbook and it needs to be "attached" to the ms access 'project' table. I am not sure what is the best way to link this back to the database. I would like to automate it with vba if possible.

Table Not Retaining Data From Form - Access 97

Oct 28, 2004

Hi,

I'm relatively new to Access and have just created a database and am wanting the database to calculate the total of two fields and store this information in the underlying table.

Example:-

Field 1 - £10
Field 2 - £15
Field 3 - TOTAL of above - I have used the calculation =([Field 1]+[Field 2])

This works fine in my form but the total value doesn't fall through to the table. It is just blank.

I am using Access 97 and wonder if this is somehow possible. I have attached a screen shot of the properties for this field (which is called 'Total' in the underlying table).

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dean.

How To Link Data On The Import

Oct 5, 2013

I accepted a month long job in putting together an Access database for a trucking company. I don't know how to make the incoming data know that it is related to its perspective field in other tables. Also, I am not understanding is how to link the tables. I have a main table with all the data. It is by date, and has all transactions, which Access assigned a number per transaction as the primary key. Then I have an Employee table (the truck drivers), a Customer table (the truck driver's company), an employee productivity table (includes wages, pay rate, Emp names, etc) and a truck table.

I tried linking the tables, but not sure if it is correct. I linked the Customer and Employee table via an EmpID foreign key in the Customer table. The employee productivity table is linked to the employee table via an EmpProd foreign key in the employee table. And the Customer table is linked to the truck table via a Cust foreign key in the Truck table. The table with all data is indexed to the Emp table, and under relationships the arrow points from the Emp table to the all data table, but there is no one to many (etc.) relationship because I did not know how to establish one. I tried reversing the arrow, but it wouldn't let me. I don’t even know the difference between an indexed link verses a relationship link.

The data itself is not linked. The Employees in the employee table does not know that it is the same field in the other tables. The all data table has EmpName daily info with only about 20 names, but about 4,000 fields. I listed the 20 names in the EmpName field of the tblEmp, but do not understand how to make both tables realize that it is the same field. It does not seem to realize that it is the same field because it does not rearrange the two field data with the correct data. I have this problem with all my tables.

So when I need to add the rest of the data, I don’t think the data knows where to go.

What am I doing wrong?

(I am using Access 2007 at work, and completed a class on 2010.)

Link/Transfer Data From Access 2000 To Excel 2000

Mar 27, 2006

If I have a report in MS Access 2000 generated based on the criteria selected of a project with work order "9999" with the labor costs, materials costs and the Totals of each crew1, crew2,... and I would like to have those expenditures populated in corresponding cel in Excel for each crew, HOW would I do it?

To think it out loud, could I create a button on a form, so when I select the criteria for the work order, and when I click the button, it should refresh/update the Exel file with the new data...?? How do I write VBA code for that...?

Please help...Thank you so much....

General :: Connecting Access Database To Website To Import Data Automatically

Jun 30, 2015

I just created a database and need to connect it to the data source. The data comes from a http website (intranet from work). When I open the link using firefox, I can view the website with the data in it, but when I open it from Internet Explorer, I get a save as pop-up message to save a csv file which contains all the data. The extension of the http website ends with csv. So it is something like http (slash slash...) Intranetname/referral_dbase.csv

Currently, I am opening the file using firefox, copying all the data manually, and pasting it in a text file using notepad. After that, I import the file into access. The delimiter of the data is this symbol: |

I am trying to find a way to link my database to the website where the data is located so that I can skip the manual process of opening the website and copying the data and saving it into a text file and then importing that file into access. I was thinking to have like a form in access with a bottom that will automatically import that data from this link and paste it into a table in access using the delimiter symbol mentioned above.

Is this too complicated? Is it even possible in access 2010?

Import Excel Data From Multiple Sheets Into Multiple Tables In Access

Aug 25, 2012

I would like to know which way is the best way to import excel data from multiple sheets in to multiple tables in access.

For example data from Sheet1 -> Table1, Sheet2->Table2, Sheet3->Table3 etc...

I have tried using this:
Cmd.TransferSpreadsheet acImport, acSpreadsheetTypeExcel5, "Table1", "C:Importedfile.xlsx", True, "Sheet1!"

Ironically, data from Sheet2 and Sheet3 seem to be properly imported in to table2 and table3, but some of the data from Sheet1 seems to be missing in Table1 after import.

Any other ways to import the data?
