Macro Security Warning When Opening Database

May 15, 2006

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anybody knew a way to disable the security warning in Access that pops up saying "This file may not be safe if it contains code that was intended to harm your computer. Do you want to open this file or cancel the operation?"

If possible, I'd like to disable the message for just my database, but we currently don't use any other database anyway, so I'm not too concerned with turning it off completely if that's all I can do. I'm sure there has to be an option somewhere to not check for macros or something, but I can't find it.

If anyone knows how to do this or if you know that it is not possible, please let me know.

Thanks,
Sean

ACCESS 2003 Security Warning

Dec 11, 2005

I have read through the various posting regarding ACCESS 2003 security warnings. As like everyone else, I receive a security warning stating, “This file may not be safe if it contains code that was intended to harm your computer.” I have already installed Microsoft Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8 and I have already enabled sandbox mode. This warning still appears when I try to open databases sent to me by other people. It also appears when I try to create a new database from my own computer. I understand why this message may appear when I open other peoples’ databases, but why would this error message appear on my own computer after I create a database from the very same computer? I would like to market my databases to specific clients, but I need to eliminate the security warnings that would appear each time they opened my databases from their computers. I don’t want to suggest that people change their security levels to low in order to open my database. For this reason, I am considering the option of digitally signing my databases with an authenticated signature. As something like this would run anywhere up to about $400.00, I want to make sure that it would be the best, and correct, option for me. My ultimate question: If I am already trying to create databases from my own computer and receive this warning message, would a digital certificate work in eliminating the error message for my future clients? Also, I understand that I may use the signatures for up to a year. Would I be able to use this for multiple databases that I create as long as it’s within that one year, or would I only be able to sign one specific database and use that same database for the entire year? This is a bit of a pricey endeavor for me, so if there are any other options, I’d love to hear those, too. Thank for the help in advance!

How To Disable The Warning When Opening Access

Nov 14, 2006

Hi,

i was wondering if anyone might be able to help me out here. I've been spending hours but to no avail. It seems to be a very trivial problem but i'm just out of luck.

I've been getting this pop-up message everytime i try to open up an access application such as .mdb files.

Open file - Security Warning
Do you want to open this file
...
two buttons: Open & Cancel

My question is if there is a way to turn it off or disable this warning from popping up when opening an access application.

Thank you in advance

Got Warning Everytime Opening An Access File

Dec 3, 2006

Hi,

I wonder if anyone here might be able to help me out here. I've been pondering this issue for so long and i was almost giving up.

I've been getting this warning everytime i open up an Access file (.MDB) especially, when trying to open up a file that's sitting on another computers. i have a few computers and they are set up in a peer to peer environment.

I took a printscreen of the warning message and attached it to this post. Please take a look at it. It's called "access.jpg"

Is there any way of turning it off? is it to do with the peer to peer networking?

Thank you in advance

Macro Security Level

Oct 6, 2006

Why does Excel have an emphasis on macro security level (high, medium, low) but Access doesn't? Both use VBA.

Also when Excel loads it always requests a virus scan but when Access loads it just loads? How come?

On another note why doesn't Access have a Macro Recorder?

Thanks.

Macro Security Levels

Jan 7, 2006

I've written a db which I will be putting on someone elses machine.

I want it so there is a short cut that directly opens the db from their desk top. I'm happy about setting up the 'on open settings' so it goes to the default page etc, however what I do want to avoid is the macro warning at the start when access opens up.

I know one way to avoid this is to drop the security level down from medium to low. It mentions that this is ok providing the machine in question has good anti virus software installed - which it does.

So, here's my question. Is it really ok to drop the security level down or am I potentially going to screw up my mates machine . Alternatively, is there a better way of doing it

Many thanks

Opening A Report Using A Macro?

Jan 18, 2013

I have a form in Datasheet view and when you click on a record in that form I want it to take you to a report with all the details of that record number. I have the On Click event set to run a Macro. The Macro is as follows:

OpenReport
Report Name Incident Report
View Report
Filter Name Open
Where Condition =[Event ID]=[Reports]!Incident Report]![Event ID]
Window Mode Normal

This Where Condition works for me open another form from the form with the same Event ID. Why does it come to a "new" Incident on the report?

Macro Or VBA For Opening A Form In Particular Record

Jan 30, 2013

Self tought in Access07 but I'm trying to do the following:

I've got a form (Clients_F) that has a subform in datasheet view with a list of quote numbers made by each customer, I have managed to make a Macro after a few hours and googling, that opens another form (Quotes_F) so that it can be edited when a quote number is clicked, but I wish to be able to open Quotes_F as a new record when the empty field under the numbers column in the list is clicked.

Also want to know if it's possible to mantain the Customer's details pre-filled?...I am guessing that this is done through the CustomerID(PK & FK)?

Opening Security Prompts

Jul 21, 2006

This may just be a MS XP thing, but when I open my Database it gives a series of 3 prompts to open the database. The first is a security warning for unsafe expressions, do i want to block them or not, the second is telling me that only MS Jet 4.0 service pack can block the unsafe expressions, do i want to open my database, the third is an actual open, cancel or more info prompt saying code could harm my comp.

how do i get rid of these or at least get it down to only one prompt?

Warning Before Closing The Database

Apr 18, 2006

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me out. Is there a way of programming the access database in such a way that it doen't shut the whole database if someone by accident, presses the cross sign which is right on the top right hand corner. I'd like it to ask the user if they really want to quit first. This way, all the unsaved work can be saved prior to the closing.

Is this possible?

Thank you in advance

Forms :: Opening Bound Form Via Macro Or Docmd?

May 26, 2015

I have a bound form that normally is opened via macro. Very straight forward just has the following in the where.

Code:
[userID]=[Forms]![Home]![txtSelectUser]

I'm trying to open the same form via doCmd.

Code:
DoCmd.OpenForm "frmUserInformation", , , "UserID=" & Me.txtProblemID

I've msgbox'd the txtProblemID and the correct ID is being passed. Where I fall into an error is on the frmUserInformation's onLoad event which uses the ID form the frmUserInformation.txtUserID box. The error I get is "Syntax error (missing operator in query expression '[fldUserID]='."

Code:
strEndMonth = DLookup("fldDateExpiration", "qryUserExpirationDate", "[fldUserID]=" & Me.txtUserID)

What I've narrowed it to is the timing between the docmd.openform and the onload of the form. I've tried changing the onload to be on activate - and it just opens empty.

how to get the docmd to open the form correctly before the onload tries to fire?

Opening Autoexec Macro Causes Reference To Outdated Login Form

Feb 20, 2014

I changed the name of a form referenced in the Autoexec macro from "frmLogin" to "frmLoginPW". However when I Open Access 2010 instead of Form "frmLoginPw" opening I get a message box saying that the system can't find "frmLogin". If I do a search through all the code in the project there is NO reference to "frmLogin" as I changed any code to refer to "frmLoginPW" and recompiled the project.

I can not get rid of this error and if I press the OK button on this error message ( from MS Access not my error coding) the "frmLoginPw" opens and the code in the form works. (Password authentication etc etc.). I deleted the AutoExec macro and remade the macro and referred it to the new form "frmLoginPW", this did not work. I loaded the Accdb file using the Run command and the /Decompile command line parameter to no effect.

Modules & VBA :: How To Disable Security Pop Ups When Opening External Files In Access 2010

Aug 1, 2013

[URL]

I have a button on a form, when it is clicked it opens a video file located in a folder on the local computer. Each time the button is clicked a security pop up appears that says "Opening file://C:lahblahyadayadaFile.mp4 Some files can contain viruses or otherwise be harmful to your computer. It is important to be certain that this file is from a trustworthy source. Would you like to open this file?" options are open or cancel. How can these messages be turned off?

I have already played around in the trust center of Access 2010 and changed the "trusted documents", "trusted locations", and "message Bar" tabs with no results. Do I have to play with regedit in windows to get rid of these pop ups? Or can I somehow use VBA code to disable them? They are just a nescience.

Help With Database Security

Jul 13, 2005

Hello,

I have a very basic Access Database that is a contact resource for vendors. I have a Switchboard manager form when you open the database with the option to take you to a Form for the supplier contact information or to 2 different reports.

I have set up security so that I have full access and then a Data Entry user is allowed to edit, add and delete data but no make changes to design of the database. I also have just the minimum toolbars showing.

I set up the security and work group file with no problems. It works great on my computer but when I try to transport it to another computer, I get an error stating:
"You do not have the necessary permissions to use H:/File Name.mdb. Have the system administrator or whoever created this object establish the appropriate permissions for you."

How do I set up the database security and still have the database be portable and be able to be used on any computer?

Also, is there a way to restrict the toolbars for the common users and have the full toolbars for the administrator?

Thanks for your help.

Database Security.

Jul 27, 2005

Hello.
Prior to MS Access 2003 a different workgroup information file (system.mdw) could not be joined unless the user had access to run the workgroup administrator utility with the file WRKGADM.exe to create a new or join another existing workgroup information file. With the 2003 version of Access there is now a command (Tools menu then Security then workgroup administrator) to run the workgroup administrator utility within the MS Access menus. This could allow any user, once they are able to log in to MS Access, to change the workgroup information file to one that doesn’t require them to log in and has no restriction on rights for users for any database. My question is: How can I make it so users can’t run the “workgroup administrator” utility from the menu? Note: If you remove it from the menu then any user can also customize the menu to bring it back so that is not a problem solver. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Security In The Database

Apr 19, 2006

I have an old Database which someone had created and they stopped using it. Now they would like to get the information from it. The problem is whenever I try to open it, it says

'You do not have the necessary permission to use the c:SGSS Database.mdb object. Have your system administartor or the person who created this object establis hthe approprirate permissions for you'

I have the secure.mdw file. when I open it all it has is a few queries with the usernames and the groups.

Is there anyway I am able to get into this database? I have looked around in the forums here, but I didnt' really get a straight answer or the solution was for a different circumstance.

Thank You

Database Security

Apr 24, 2006

Hi, I'm working on a piece of coursework which is due in pretty much tomorrow. I've finalized everything except security. I need my database to prompt for a user name and password when a user loads up the database. If a user name and password is given that is correct, then it'll open up the database with that user's permissions. But if an incorrect username/password is given then it should deny access. The help files weren't very helpful on this, I'd be very grateful if anyone could tell me how to set up this security.[Edit] Also, I dont know how to make the database automatically open up an input form (in this case, the main menu form) when the database is opened. How do I do this?

Database Security

Apr 4, 2007

Thanks to all the folks in this forum who helped me to develop my fist access database application. Access is a great product and I really enjoy working.

I need to put this db for full scale production use and I would like to brainstorm some of your experiences on the security issues I need to address. I have like 12-15 users and everyone has a standalone version of MS Access 2003 full edition installed on their local hard drive. We do have a shared network drive (s :). I have few questions as follows:

1. Is it a good idea to split the database into front end and back end and install only the FE on individual user machines or just run the .mdb file from shared ‘s’ drive? I don’t have any experience with how the BE and FE works.

2. Currently I don’t have any user workgroup and permissions set to run on the database. Anyone can just open the .mdb file like any MS office suite applications(.xls, .doc) and start using (navigate, input data into the table through forms, search database, print reports, access to DB window, etc). Can some one advise what kind of security level should I incorporate as a minimum?

3. Under Tools-Option-Advanced TAB, I have selected No Locks under Default Record Locking and also checked “Open databases using record level locking” option box. Is it safe to keep it this way? Is it possible to lock only few records on a table? I have a situation that on a particular project (this is a decision supporting db application) after the project (project here refers to a record) is done, I want to lock these data so that no one can modify the existing data. At the same time, if they are working on a current project (record) then the user should have add/edit/delete access to that particular record. I am not sure if this (record level locking on a table) can be done.

4.In future I know that I need to modify the table design, forms, reports, modules. Is it good idea still to consider creating MDE file?

Your input is greatly appreciated and thanks a lot for your support.

Shan.
