Modules & VBA :: Assigning Control (sources) To A Form

Oct 3, 2014

My scenario is that I am using a one time table that is a copy of my real transaction table (called GLAcTranLine) to enter general ledger transactions. Both my form and my sub-form are unbound. The form is called GLFI50 and the sub form is called GLFI50TranSub on disk and inside the main form. That is, both the sub form and its description inside the form (in the label that appears when I build the sub form with the wizard) bear that name.

So in the load for the main form I carry out these job steps.

1. I take a "No Data" copy of the transaction table GLAcTranLine, to get the structure. That works fine. The name I give to it is prefaced with GLFI50 and ends with a random number. That works fine too.

2. I insert a blank record into the new table. That also works fine.

3. Assign the control source to the Sub form and to its individual objects. That just dies in a crumpled heap. Neither the form not the individual columns code works.

The error I get (in both cases) is the Run-time error '2465' Application-defined or object-defined error.

I believe this means that it just cannot work out what idiotic error I have made. The code all passes the compiler test.

Here is the SUB.

Private Sub Form_Load()

'STEP 1. I take a "no data" copy of Create the Work Table and assign it as a control source to the sub form
'================================================= ======================

'(Copies the structure of the source table to a new target one. It isn't a temporary table so I need to
'find a way of assigning a temporary name and then using that name on this prog.
'The True on the end says "Do not copy the data)"

'GLFI50Work is the Global variable that holds the temporary table name.
Dim RandomInt As Single

Form With 2 Different Control Sources?

Dec 14, 2005

Hi,
I have just split up a table into tables so that has interfered with the form I had created for it. I have 2 main tables:

tblDrawingRegister:
DrawingNum
DrawingName

tblRevision:
Drawing num
Revision
LatestIssueDate
OrderNum

I split them up because there was alot of dublication. One drawing can have many different revisions. So I think it was better to split it up like this?

Anyways the form allows the user to add this information so some of the controls are bound to one form and the others to another. I know that I could do a query to combine the two tables but is that the best way to do it from an optimisation/ good database design point of view?

From a layout point of view I would prefer not to use a subform.

Thanks for your time,
RCurtin

Universal Form For Different Sources?

Jan 27, 2015

I have an option group where the user reads a question and either has to select yes or no. There are multiple questions on this form. If the user selects 'No' I'd like a "why" form to pop up and allow the user to write a reasoning down and have it saved in a record in a table (the same table that the yes or no answer is saved in).

Right now I have it working, but my method will force me to make a specific why form for each question (which will be over 50). This doesn't seem very efficient.

Forms :: Form With Tabs But Separate Sources

Dec 29, 2014

I am creating a database in which to store my data collected in my research. I have 8 tables that are linked by a SampleID number. I have created a form which has tabs, the first tab contains the information required for entry on table 1; how I am going to add the controls from table 2 onto the second tab.

I know how to make additional tabs and I have created a separate form for table 2 with the form wizard, cut and pasted the fields into the second tab on my first form BUT how to establish the source for those controls back to the second table. To make matters worse (of course not to be too dramatic here) I can see the other table in my Field List of related tables.

Modules & VBA :: Counting Value And Assigning Numerical Value?

Aug 15, 2013

I am working on an app, that has a field named "Name". I have everything set up with a module, which, for example, the name "John", it assigns 1. when it sees "John" again it assigns 2. Then "Jane" It assigns 1 again. I want the module to see every instance of "John" to assign the same number, 1, then all instances of "Jane" 2, etc. Here is the code in the module I am using, but it is assigning the values wrong. My final plan is to use the numbers for conditional formatting, so all johns one color, all janes, a different color. I can't use the conditional formatting wizard because these names pop up at random, and the names populate at random.

Forms :: Multiple Data Sources For Tabs On A Form

Jun 24, 2013

Please see the screen shot attached.

I have a single form with multiple tabs. At the top of the form appears the name of an individual and below the name are multiple tabs containing information specific to that individual. Each tab has a separate underlying table, which is the data source for the information contained on that tab.

As best as I can tell, I can only use one single data source (a query at the moment) to populate all the data that appears on all the tabs. Is there a way that I can have a separate data source (namely, a table) for each tab?

Forms :: Integrating Multiple Record Sources Into Form

Oct 28, 2014

I have a reservations form, which will be used to store the checkin and checkout dates for customers; these are related to the reservations table. On the same form I also want room details showing such as room number, this is on a separate rooms table. I believe that the room number will be a query to show which rooms are available and therefore display the room number on the form. So I need integrating this into the form. Also I have not set it as a subform, the reservations form carries on from the customers form, as a new form.

1. The user types in a new reporting month, when a record in the months table exists with a timeperiod and a blank reporting month field, it should be assigned there. For example the User types in reporting month = 032014 it should be assigned to the Time_Period Value = 042014-032015

2. Vice versa, the user types in a time period. This value shuold be assigned to the blank field beneath the existing reporting month.

Modules & VBA :: Assigning Reference Numbers To Records Where Same Customer Appear

Nov 21, 2013

I'm trying to put together a DB for creating notifications to customers. The source file is pulled out from another system as an Excel file, which is then uploaded to Access via VBA. The user runs a query, and then sends the results (customer information) to an Excel file where we have set up a mail merge document (the notification itself).

A customer may appear in multiple records (having multiple accounts), but will only receive one notification.

What we're trying to do is give each notification an unique ID that will become its document reference number once the document is created. The number will need to be the same for all the records in which the customer appears, and they will need to be consecutive, as the documents themselves will be stored in PDF form later on in the process.

So I would like to assign an unique ID to each customer, each time it shows up when querying the uploaded source file (the query is done in a form, that has a sub-form for showing the results). Then, when exporting the query results, they will be also copied and stored to another table, along with the assigned reference number, for monitoring purposes.

The Access file itself will be split and used by multiple users (up to 9 users at a time). In theory, each user will see their own customers (each customer account is assigned to a certain user), but the number assignation will need to also depend on when the query has been run. For example, if user 1 queries the DB at 9:30AM they will get records numbered 1000 to 1050; user 2 (who queries the DB at 9:31AM) gets numbers 1051 to 2100 etc.

Modules & VBA :: Subform In A Tab Control Form

Mar 3, 2015

I have main form (frmProcedures) that has a tab control with 2 pages. One of the pages I have a subform that contains a listbox control controlled by a query. The subform is a search and display form. When I open the subform on it own, it opens up fine. However when I try to open up the mainform, it always prompts me to enter the parameter value. I have to atleast hit "Enter" for the form to open up.Even after hitting the enter key, when I try to navigate to that page, I keep getting the parameter prompt.

Here is the query that populates the listbox control. And the parameter that is prompted is Forms!frmSearchMulti!SrchText that you see in the query below

SELECT Procedures.ProcedureName, Procedures.BusinessLine, Procedures.Manager, Procedures.ApprovalDate, Procedures.NextApprovalDateFROM ProceduresWHERE (((Procedures.ProcedureName) Like "*" & forms!frmSearchMulti! SrchText & "*")) Or (((Procedures.BusinessLine) Like "*" & forms!frmSearchMulti!SrchText & "*")) Or (((Procedures.Manager) Like "*" & forms!frmSearchMulti!SrchText & "*"));

I do have a searchbox that when updated with search string issues the requery to update the values in the listbox.

Modules & VBA :: Referring To Tab Control On Sub Form

Jun 9, 2013

I have the following setup:

A main form - named [formMain]
On [formMain] I have a tab control - named [tabMain]
[tabMain] has 3 pages named [pageOne], [pageTwo] and [pageThree].
On [pageThree] I have created a subform named [formSub].
On [formSub] there is a tab control named [tabSub].

Now what I would like is to make [tabSub] (in)visible if the user switches from [pageOne] or [pageTwo] to [pageThree].

Code:
Sub tabMain_Change()

How do I refer to [tabSub] from within this subroutine? I am trying something like:

Code:

Forms![formMain]![pageThree].Form![tabSub].Visible = False

but it is not working. What should be the correct way?

Modules & VBA :: Copy A Control In Form Design?

Oct 24, 2013

I need to duplicate a number of controls on a form. They are all acCommandButton types, but they have different images, sizes etc.

Anyway, my thought process was if I have a "template" acCommandButton then when I create my new controls if I could use this template then the code I have hanging off them (I have a function being called on the onClick event, borders are set to hairline, themes turned off and various other settings) would be copied. Save me trying to set them all individually.

So, my question is, can I "copy" a control in form design through VBA. Once I create the copy of the control I can then change the couple of properties I need to and "hey presto" I have skipped a load of settings that I don't need to set.

At the end of the process when I rename my form I can delete my template control and I have a working form.

Modules & VBA :: Use Value On Form Control As Default Value In Other Tables

May 11, 2015

How I might use a value selected by a user on a database opening menu (which remains open), as a default value for records created programmatically in other tables?

I wonder if I need to write a function to repeat the value - but I cannot see how to use a form value outside of the form's own code. Some of my existing code inserts values into tables using SQL converted into VBA and I do not really want to start fiddling with that - I would rather for now use the default value of the table for the field.

My variable which will change depending upon which set of records a user is working on is a string "FullAccession".

When a user creates records in a table called tblGroups, I need the string "FullAccession" to be the default value in the tblGroups.FullAccession field. A unique integer in the tblGroups is "GroupNo". "GroupNo" and "FullAccession" are joined in a unique index for tblGroups. There is a separate PK autonumber.

Modules & VBA :: Using Form Control Value To Determine Query Criteria

Jan 26, 2014

I'm working on a report called Open Orders and when the database loads, it takes you to a Navigation Form. You make some selections mostly from combo boxes, then click run report which runs a query then launches the report.

I want the user to be able to click a check box called "Ready Only". If the checkbox = True, then I would like the field "Ready Pieces" in the query to have the criteria ">0". If the checkbox = false, I want that field to show all values (*).

I have no problem setting the criteria of a query field to equal that of a combo box value (Warehouse Like ([Forms]![Process Form]![Warehouse] & "*") but have problems when the criteria isn't the exact same as the value of the control.

Things I have tried to no avail: Putting a Iif statement in the query criteria: gives an error that criteria is too complex Creating an invisible text box whose value is determined by the checkbox to ">0" or "" then basing the Ready Pieces criteria equal to this....doesn't work Trying to use the DoCmd.RunSQL with my SQL code that changes via VBA when the checkbox is changed...Get an error and the SQL doesn't run

Modules & VBA :: Insert Into Statement Using Data From Form Control?

so i need an insert into statement that does this, ive tried INSERT INTO tblAdjustment (adjType, adjReason, fgID, adjQTY) ("Finished Goods", "Produced", Forms!SubFormBatches.fgID, Forms!SubformBatches.batchPackedQTY)

Modules & VBA :: Setting Control Source For Entire Form?

Oct 21, 2013

Is there a way to set the control source for an entire form through VBA? I have a database that was set up just as an archive file, not intending to have any forms or reports in it. It was simply to house tables containing data from previous years. My main database just copies the table over to the archive file and adds the year to the table name. I have just been told that the users would like a form and a series of reports set up in this database.

I would like to set the main form up so that before it will allow them to do anything, they have to enter the year of the data they are looking for. After the year has been entered, I would like to adjust the control source of the form to reflect the appropriate table. In other words, when a user opens the archived database, he or she will see a field for the year an nothing else. Once they enter the year they are looking for, the form will populate with data from the corresponding table (the table names look like this - tblPM_Completed_2013). Is this possible?
