I am importing an excel text field into a table. I am then appending the data to another table. I am having a hard time with the Cdate function
Excel Date Field:

My Query Code:
NewDate: CDate(Left([DateQ],4)+"/"+Mid([DateQ],6,2)+"/"+Right([DateQ],2))
My Query Result:

What it should be:

I have this linked table query from a OBDC and I need to be able to filter out specific dates in that query. The dates in the table were in text format and I converted the dates using the CDate function. I wanted to filter the query to a single date and always I get the Datatype mismatch in criteria expression error.
However, filtering dates does work only when there are other specifications in the criteria fields (e.g. if I specify a date and and name). My SQL code in error looks like this:

CDate([purch_hist.PURDT]) AS RECEIPT_DATE,

This query works fine with a non converted date field, however the dates I need are in text format and need to be converted since I do not have permissions to edit the tables.
I am using CDate to convert a date text string into a date value, which is then listed in ascending order in the result.
If I leave the default format as 'dd/mm/yy' the data is in the correct date ascending order when the query runs but if I use -
Format(CDate(etc, etc),"dd mmm yy")
The query is in alpha/numeric order as if the value is a text string and not a date value.
Not entirely sure why it is doing this when all that I have changed/added is the 'Format' function.
I would like to import excel sheet that contains about 45 fields and the fields names are not well defined(not obey the Access rules). I would like to import the sheet into ms access without changing the excel sheet because i have to provide only the interface to users where they have to import sheets only. (All the time In Excel fields name are arranged and in specific order but invalid names of fields).
After 1 week the person has new excel sheet with same format and the process of importing data into ms access will be continue for whole year or more.
I need to import an excel file with incorrectly formatted date field and it worked only to import them as text:
1 jan 2015
1 feb 2015
1 mar 2015
etc.
Using CVdate converts jan, feb, nov and dec to correct date, but gives an error message with mar to oct.
I have a data file I am importing into MS Access 2010. One of the fields is a large text field. When i import that field into Access the text is getting cut off. How do I get the full text field to import without cutting off?

The number is formatted correctly in excel and is displayed as 10309976464180, but when it is imported into access it displays as 1.030998E+13. I have tried all of the possible formatting for numbers but nothing corrects this, and if I change to Long Integer it actually removes the numbers. What is the correct formatting in Access to get these numbers to display correctly?

I could just use an append query to add the new tickets to my database, but there are some changes on the excel side to tickets that already exist in access as well. What would be the easiest way to facilitate this import and overwrite all tickets with matching Ticket IDs to the new ones contained in the excel file?
I already have the excel file imported into it's own table, so it's a matter of updating my main table off of this temporary table containing the excel tickets. The field names are the same across both tables, it's just a matter of updating the info contained in them.
This will need to be repeated for multiple different excel files, so the easier the better!

Say I have ExcelFile.xls, and it has worksheets with varying names. I want to pull fields B12, B16, B20, B24, B28 from each worksheet and create a new record in a table (one new record for each worksheet). Is there an easy way to do this other than pulling the data into a Crystal Reports pivot table or some such?

I was importing the large array of accounting data into Access from Excel through File - Get External Data - Import. Several columns contained tangible accounting data (e.g. registration numbers) that had different formats like "23423 34", "32-3545" and in some cases even contained letter constants. Therefore, I have assigned TEXT type to this column while importing and was sure that all values are going to be stored as text. However, what has happened is: 18307769 turned into 1.83078e+007! this means tangible accounting data that was used as a key field for further linking turned into bull&&$%! :-(
I know this problem is very simple, so please, can you give me a hint as to how do I solve it in the future.

Is the record is already existing in access, but a few fields are blank, is there any way to import an excel file that just updates those blank fields for the specific record?
For example,
I have an excel file that includes files that are ready to ship out. My access database already has those file names, but does not have the shipping box number. Is there any way to import the excel file into my database, have it find those specific file names and update the shipping box number field? The excel file won't be adding any new records, just appending existing records.

I've been trying to load data from multiple excel worksheets in multiple workbooks into one table in Access. The first one loads fine, but after that I get errors and can't load anything else. All of the sheets are in the same format, so that shouldn't be the problem. Every solution I've tried has been a bust. All I want is to take all of my data and put it into one big database. importing data from two excel sources to one table. I have a table with: Unit, Info1, info2, info3, info4, info5, info6, info7. I have been able to import from the first file which has all of the unit information-'info1-5'. I need to import another file to fill 'info6-7' based on specific unit numbers. I have created two excel tables the first with the headers "unit, info1-5" and the second with the headers "unit, info6-7." The first works fine and adds all the data I want it to, but when I try to do the same with the second it doesn't add any new data.I cannot add the last two fields to my first spread sheet because it would involve sorting through 700+ units and adding the data manually to 400+ of them.

I'm importing data from an excel spreadsheet to an MS Access (2007) table. One of the fields in the table is a text memo field able to support more than 255 characters...
Issue:
The issue is that any cell in Excel that is greater than 255 characters is truncated when imported to MS Access even though the field is a memo field. There isn't any documentation on Microsoft's website about this and I don't see any way to work around it other than manually copying the data from excel to MS Access.
Anyone have any input on this matter?

I have an excel file linked to a table in Access. Several fields are date data types in excel but are showing up as text fields in Access.
My real goal is to do a comparison between two tables, but only if the date of the one piece of data is newer than the other. I had planned on comparing the two date fields but even though I have formatted the date fields in my excel file to be "Date", when I look at the design view of my table it is showing up as "Text" and therefore I am unable to do this comparison.
I'm not sure if it's just something that I'm missing but maybe someone else knows an easy fix to this. I know this is probably a simple question, but I did search the forum and didn't find a thread that specifically dealt with this issue.

I have two text fields in a table that are updated through an excel file import. In the excel file, both fields contain data that is mostly numeric, but there are always about a quarter that contain letters as well. When I go to import the excel file, it sets to null any value in the fields that contains letters. If I sort the excel file in descending order for the field, it will import, but I have two fields that do this, so this brings more problems. Does anyone know why you can't just import anything in any order into a text field?
I have a database table to which I will be adding multiple records from various other contributors. I would like to build a simple, import-friendly excel table that I can mail out to others, so that they can fill it out and send it back to me. Then I will save import steps as a macro or something similar, so that I can easily import their data.
The hard part is that I would like a way for Access to compare the new records with the existing records, identify potential duplicate records by predetermined criteria (in other words, 'wild-carded' to some level of specificity, since duplicates could be off by just a few characters), and then prompt me to examine each record to be imported alongside however many existing records that have been identified as potential duplicates. Then I as the user could:
1. accept the import record as a new record
2. decline importing that record since it is a duplicate of an existing record, or
3. edit by hand an existing record that is a duplicate of the proposed import, but may require additional information, and then decline to import the new one.After each prompt, I would like the import process to continue to the next potential duplicate, and when there are no duplicates, to complete the import and display a message box that says "Import complete".
I have a large Microsoft Word document that has a table. My delema is, I want to bring each row of the Word table into records in Access table. The problem is the way the text is formated. This is an example of how each table entry looks like in word:

Hello - I want to import a text file into a table in a database. The text file looks like this:
00001 06006025 1420 0010 Health Insurance 7
00001 06006025 1425 0010 Life Insurance 7
00001 06006025 1430 0010 Disability 7
00001 06006025 1440 0010 Profit Sharing 7
There is no consistent delimiter. The text field is making things complicated because there is no accurate way to separate the text field from the last number in each line ('7') which needs to be stored in a different column.
Is there a way to insert quotations arond the text string so the quotation mark can be used to distinguish it when importing into excel or a database table. This may work because the starting position of the text string is constant. The ending position would have to be defined as the place where the number appears ('7' in this case). Then, quotations need to be placed around the text string.
Is this possible? Any advice will help tons!!!
