Table Problems Moving From Access 2003 -> Access 2007

Jun 19, 2007

Attached is a screenshot of the relationships in a database I built a couple of years ago. It's worked absolutely fine in Access 2003 and currently has over 18,000 customers with associated information in it.

However, when I open the database in Access 2007 the performance is awful. All the forms are very slow to respond when tabbing between form elements. I've experimented by reducing the number of form elements calling on related data on a given page and whilst this improves performance it reduces usability - something I don't want to compromise on especially since Access 2007 should be able to cope with this.

My next question is therefore whether I've got the most efficient underlying table design and I can't see any other way of doing it than my current method so I'd be grateful for any feedback or advice anyone has.

Access 2003 To Access 2007 Split Database

Mar 8, 2007

Hi All,

Background Info: I developed our main department's Access 2003 split database which is on a server for 15+ Users. I've now been given Access 2007 for development -- Users still have 2003. There are also 2 other smaller databases that are not split (.mdb).

Problem: In the split database, I've saved the Application .mdb as 2003, relinked and made a new .mde. But the Users still cannot open the database. (I did this in a copy until I figure out the nuances with 2007.) The 2 other unsplit databases can be saved as 2003 version and Users can open OK.

I'm grateful for any suggestions on working with Access 2007. I've been trying to tackle the ribbon which is a whole other question.

Access 2007 / Moving Database To Another Computer?

Nov 18, 2011

I'm using Access 2007 which I built a database that runs queries off of tables using ODBC. The database is all done in ms access, I've used no visual basic programing on it. I'm now trying to move a copy of the database to another computer's local drive in the office. When we try to open it on the other computer it gives me an error that says "There was a problem sending the command to the program" and Access hangs, which I then have to run task manager to end the program.

Specs Are: Windows 7 64bit (the db was created on Windows 7 32bit)

Vista And Access 2007/2003

Jun 26, 2007

I have a customer that did not read my recommended hardware specs and bought a Vista machine with Office 2007 preloaded on it.

My application uses a Access 2003 database and it is working fine in the Vista environment. The database utilizes Access security and has a database password.

My problem is that I can't see any data that has been entered! I have ran queries and opened the tables, but it is as if there is no data in the tables. However, my application can still read the data...this is a very weird problem! This is a tech support nightmare!

Has anyone had a similar problem?

Thanks for your help!

Access Problems Converting From Office 2003 To 2007

Nov 28, 2007

Our Access database is multiple user. The front end is on the local drive and the data file is on our main server. Our database has numerous queries, forms and reports accessed by command buttons or directly. Various queries are set to merge with Word documents.

What are major or annoying problems that have been encountered by converting. Our database is contains our membership information and is crucial to our operation. Detailing problems/solutions if possible would be extremely helpful. Asking for allot but very concerned about conversion.
Thanks for any input.

Access 2007 Runtime Not Visible In Access 2007

Nov 26, 2007

I installed Office Enterprise 2007. Then I installed DEveloper Exrtensions, then Access Runtime 2007. All appear to have installed OK - they appear in Program and Features.
Instructions on runtime packaging tell me that a Developer option should appear in the resulting drop-down when I click the Office button (top-left round thing) when I have a d/b open in Access. It's not there! I have un-installed and re-installed the extensions and the runtime - still nothing!
Help!
I do have Runtime 2002 (XP) on the same PC, is that relevant?

Access 2007 / Indexes In A Table?

Mar 18, 2014

I am trying to consolidate a few tables I made to make them less numerous and hopefully easier to handle. At one point I received an error message that said I had exceeded the maximum number of indexes in a table (32) and thus it could not be saved. When I scroll through my table in design mode every box that has "Indexed" as an option is marked at "no". Many boxes do not have that option and thus I am not sure if those are automatically indexed(?), not indexed(?) or that indexing is not relevant for those values(?). I definitely do not have any, let alone 32+ boxes, that have "indexed" checked to "yes" though. They are all "no".

How do I figure out which columns in my table are indexed otherwise so that I can reduce those numbers and get more columns on my tables (by the way, I am no where near the limit of 255 columns on any of my tables)

Run A Macro To Sort A Table In Access 2003

Ok,

I have a table that has new data added into it through forms, and i want the data to be sorted when a new record is added.

The person that the database is for is new to Access and therefore is not 100% competant at it.

I wanted to add a button onto the forms that would run a macro that would sort the data. Is there a macro in Access that can do this?

Cheers,

SQL Linked Table Problem- Access 2003

Jan 12, 2006

Hi all,

I set up three tables (pastoral, referral, confidential) all at the exact same time on our sql server, all have the exact same permissions and i am the owner of all three. Ecah have a primary key in the form of an autonumber.

When i link to these tables in access i can delete from both the pastoral and confidential tables but cant delete from the referral table (the smallest of the three with only 6 fields) and i get this message:

"The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time"

Ive tried:

Compacting and repairing
Recreating the table on the sql server
decompiling and recompiling with a compact and repair
redoing the table links
trying the table in a different database

and none of these things have solved my issue.

Its bizarre:

on the sql server i can add, edit, delete
in access i can add but cant edit or delete as i get a write conflict error message:

"This record has been changed by another user since you started editing it. If you save the record, you will overwrite the changes the other user made...."

Yet the overwrite option is greyed out and i only have the choice of copying to clipboard or dropping changes.

HELP!!!

im at a total loss as to what is going on, ive tried all the fixes i know and have come back to trying to fix the problem instead of starting it again due to the fact that recreating the table gives me the same problems.

Any ideas? all service packs are up to date and so is the jet engine...

cheers

greg

Importing Excel Table To Access 2003

Jan 22, 2007

Hi!

I was importing the large array of accounting data into Access from Excel through File - Get External Data - Import. Several columns contained tangible accounting data (e.g. registration numbers) that had different formats like "23423 34", "32-3545" and in some cases even contained letter constants. Therefore, I have assigned TEXT type to this column while importing and was sure that all values are going to be stored as text. However, what has happened is: 18307769 turned into 1.83078e+007! this means tangible accounting data that was used as a key field for further linking turned into bull&&$%! :-(

I know this problem is very simple, so please, can you give me a hint as to how do I solve it in the future.

Thank you in advance.

Unable To Modify Infopath That Access 2007 Creates From Table

Apr 10, 2012

I am trying to create a form on Infopath 2007 based on a table in access 2007. I want my users to be able to fill in this form and submit it back to me in such a way that it will directly populate the table in the database. I know I can do this. However, I am unable to modify the infopath that access 2007 creates from the table. I want to change the date format. By default it takes up the date as "date and time" and I want it to be the date only.
