Forms :: Sort Of Limit On Number Of Columns Contained In Data Source For Such A Box?

Jul 14, 2014

I have a form I created in the past that auto-fills some of its fields based on the user's selection of a record from a combo box linked to another table. The form has been working perfectly however I recently tried to add a couple of more fields to the form that need to be autofilled. I added the new fields to the source table and added columns to the combobox that should allow my VB code to fill those boxes. However only one of the new fields is filling correctly. After trying a few different things I notice that the problem seems to be with whatever data field becomes the 21st column in the combobox. Is there some sort of limit on the number of columns contained in the data source for such a box?

Option Compare Database
Private Sub EmpIDAutofill_Change()
Me.EmployerCatAutofill.Value = Me.EmpIDAutofill.Column(1)
Me.StreetNumAutofill.Value = Me.EmpIDAutofill.Column(2)
Me.JobCityAutofill.Value = Me.EmpIDAutofill.Column(3)

Limit Number Of Tables

Aug 1, 2006

Hi,

I have searched for an answer to this question a lot, but I could not find it. I hope anyone can help me with the following:

I need to do a database in MS Access; however, there is so much information and some of it is not related. After normalising it, it looks like I need a number of tables. Is there a limit to how many tables you can have on Access? And how many tables is the recommended size?

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Limit Number Of Fields Returned By ODBC Table

Jan 9, 2008

Hi all, I've searched this with no success.

I have a ODBC (Firebird) table linked using a DSN connection which has >300 fields. In Access, the linked table only show 256 fields (max for Access). Otherwise the link works fine. I have no control over the source Firebird table.

What I'd like to do is limit which fields from the Firebird table are shown in Access. I don't need all the fields, but I need some that are at the end and are not linked in the current setup.

I'm very much a novice at using ODBC, but can I somehow use SQL or some other method to specify which fields to show in the linked table?

Thanks for any suggestions,
John

Linking Columns To ID Number In Multiple Tables

Nov 8, 2012

I am working with a large database of 8,000+ entries. We have five tables in this database, but mainly use three of them. The main table is "OAKE Main Table" which is basically a list of all members our organization has had. Each member has accounting data linked to their member ID number which has been generated by ACCESS, and can be accessed or edited by clicking on a sub table next to each member. The accounting data that has been manually entered in the OAKE Main Table can be found in the Accounting table.

Here's my issue. I need to be able to extract a list of transactions from this accounting table since January 1st. I can do this no problem, but all I get is the member ID and the accounting data. How do I get ACCESS to include the member ID's first and last name? or maybe even the first, last name, address, city, state, zip, etc so that I can get a list of people who have made donations, for example?

I'm assuming this will have something to do with the relationships we have set up in our table. Here's a picture of it. I have no clue how to make this work.

Tables :: Consolidate Into Fixed Number Of Rows - Many Columns

Oct 15, 2014

I have a table ("Student Info") that looks like this:

ID....Student.....Student #......Teacher Name......Teacher ID
1........A...............432...............Alice.. .................62
2........B...............674...............Alice.. .................62
3........C...............875...............Alice.. .................62
4........D...............934...............Katie.. ................18
5........E...............345...............Katie.. ................18
6........F...............134...............Dan.... .................4
7........G...............734...............Dan.... .................4

The above table suits me well for data entry. For analysis reasons, I want it to have another table or query or something (let's call it "Teacher Info") that looks like this:

Teacher ID....Teacher Name....St1.....St2......St3...St#1...St#2...St#3
62......................Alice...........A......... B........C.....432.....674.....875
18......................Katie...........D......... E........-.....934.....345......-
4........................Dan............F......... G........-.....134.....734......-

Is there any way that I could do this? I have been struggling with this for a while.Just so you know how this data is connected - At the moment, I have a form where I put in new Teacher information. I have a subform attached to that, where I put the student names and numbers. This way, the students are linked with their student #s, and each of them are linked to a teacher. Unfortunately, the table ("New Teacher Registration") that this creates looks like this:

id....Teacher Name
62...... Alice
(+ tab).........A.........432
...................B.........674
...................C.........875
18.......Katie
(+ tab).........D.........934
...................E.........345
4........Dan
(+ tab).........F.........134
...................G.........734

I created the "Student Info" table (above) from this to work with data entry (drop-downs and such). Now I'd like to create a "Teacher Info" table (above) for analysis.

Tables :: Limit Combo Box Results Based On Secondary Table

Dec 4, 2013

I have a DB with 4 tables:

Property (used for look-up values)
Service Type (used for look-up values)
Rate Table (uses the Property Table and Service Type Table and is used as a rate look-up table for the daily service table noted below)
Daily Service

Using the Daily Service table, I need to choose a property, choose a service type that is limited to the property (100's of service types, but a property may only have a limited number), and enter a quantity, and have the Rate Table return the specific cost of the service. I didn't think this was too hard in Access (2013), but I seem to be hitting a wall and spending too much time figuring it out. Now I am behind in my project.

I have been trying to do this in a table format, but have been unsuccessful in limiting the results of the Service Type combo box based on the property chosen.

Tables :: Consecutively Number Table Rows With User Determined Start Number

Jul 13, 2014

I have an Access2007/SQL Server 2012 system with 20 users for an insurance company. The company does most of its business via a network of vehicle dealers around the country. If someone comes in to buy a motorcycle, boat, or recreational vehicle at a dealership they need insurance to take it home, and our dealers send the quotes to us.

The dealers, in turn, receive payment from us each month for their efforts. Some are paid a % commission on the premium, some are paid for each quote they send regardless of whether the policy actually sells or not, and some are paid a set amount per sold policy. (Yes, that is relevant information!)

We already have reports that tally the amounts due each dealer based on their payment scheme, but last month our bookkeeper had to write about 650 checks manually because the check writing is not automated. She'd look at the report, and then enter name, address, and amount (in digits and words) into Quick Books and print the checks from there, a horribly tedious process. I've been asked to print the checks from Access. Basically one click would print all 650 checks.

I've opted to use a Make Table query to move the commissioned dealers amounts to a single location, and then to run two append queries to add the records from those paid per quote and those paid per policy. At the end of the day, one table contains all the information necessary to print the checks...except one.

The check number.

I need a way to sequentially number each record in the new table with a user generated starting point, the first check number.

By the way, the check blanks are on standard letter sized paper, three to a page, with tear-off perforations to separate them, in case that information has any relevance.

I think the best way to accomplish this is from the report itself. I've created a blank field on each record for the check number, and what seems most logical is that the sequential number is generated on print and written back to the table, rather than just generating all the numbers at once. That way, should print ever be interrupted, it will be easy to take up where we left off.

Create Table Of Different Columns In Three Tables Join To Form A Master Table?

Jun 4, 2015

I have three tables that contain different columns but linked by a primary column call Name. I want to create a table where all these different columns in the three tables join to form a master table which can be updated regularly either through the master table or the smaller tables. The master table also has the primary column as Name.

If I update the master table with records, it should update the respective linked table and vice versa. I also want to link these tables to my SharePoint site.

Note: except the Name column, none of these tables have any other columns in common How do I go about this?

Creating Columns Into Access Tables Using ASP?

Jan 1, 2005

I am having trouble getting ASP code to create a new column in an Access database.
This is what is currently coded, but does not work. Something tells me that the code should be Create instead of Alter, but not sure what the correct terms would be. I need the code to automatically create this column called PCName with the listed properties in the table called member. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
re.Open "Alter Table in member Add Column " & PCName & " varchar(50) default None",conn2

sql = "Update member Set " & PCName & " = 'None'"

Tables :: Combining Two Text Columns Into One In A Table?

Aug 16, 2013

My Approach database contains records relating to nearly 800 sites in London. There are radically different amounts of data held about each site. The database contains a lot of different tables, each containing a different class of information. Not all the sites listed in the database have information in all of the tables.

The unique thing that holds it all together is the unique site reference number. Unfortunately this is split into two separate columns in the Approach database, "Reference" and "Suffix". Not all sites have a suffix. (The purpose of the suffix is to identify sub-sites which are subordinate to the main site reference, but need to have their own individual records.) Because many sites have no suffix, most of the fields in the second column are blank.

In order to link all the tables together in access I need a Primary Key which is unique to each site. In this case the reference/suffix number is the obvious (only) candidate. There is no problem using two different columns to create a primary key. The problem I face is that it doesn't like the fact many of the fields in the second column are blank.

My solution to this is to combine the two columns into one. That would give every site a unique reference, and none of the fields in the combined column would be blank. Can I work out how to do it? All I want is a new column that displays the reference and suffix (if any) in a single field, no spaces.

Tables :: Adding Same Prefix To All Columns In A Table

My database has three tables with many columns. The three tables are identical in the names of their columns.

I want to copy all columns from all three tables together into one single table, giving the respective columns prefix table1-, table2-, table3- since the columns would otherwise be indistinguishable.

I already tried to search the board for "table columns add prefix".

I use Access 2010

I managed to copy all columns together into one table through design-view, but cannot figure out the "add prefix" step.

Linking Table Columns Within Different Tables As Master And Slave?

Jul 7, 2014

The first table is restricted to certain personnel, whereas anyone has access to the second table. Both tables have a column called 'job no', in the first table it is a primary key, in the second just a field. I would like to make it impossible in the second table to change the data in the 'job no' column to anything that is not in the same column in the first table. It this possible within the tables themselves, or would I have to do it via coding and forms?
