I want a text box which is on a form linked to a table, to display a name using a foreign key as a reference.
I just had it semi working with D lookup and the whole database corrupted.
E.g. site_ID would be changed to Site_name on JobsF using JobsT as the record source
the site_ID is dependent on Job_ID
I am working on an form (using Access 2000 and VBA) that stores registration information, along with events that were attending, in a table and later retrieves that same information from the table to display the regist. info, events attended, and allows the user to change any current info along with adding new/recently attended events to each record.
I am currently allowing a max of six events, along with event details, to be stored and I am running through six different if statements to match the Event_List (name of the combo box that contains "Event 1 Event 2...Event 6") to the appropreiate information in the table. I have started to simplify the code to remove the redundancy by running a Do While to to find the correct Event by using an integer variable that starts at 1 and is incremented until it matches the 7th character (the number portion) of the Event chosen from the Event_List. After this I want to use that integer variable to say what event information in the table to gather. My problem is this: I have tried many different varieties of the following code and I am unable to make it work. I had never used Access up until a week and a half ago, and a few days ago I went and bought the book "Access VBA Programming for Dummies" but it doesn't help for this problem. Here's part of the code:
Variables (Event_Name, PMT, Receipt, Payment_Type, PIF) refer to Form textboxes while the variables in the [] refer to table field names.

I noticed that when I made a few changes to one of my queries, the results in my data sheet view were in some sort of Asian looking language. See below. Why is it doing this? I've only been using English with this program and have not changed any of my settings so I'm very confused. Also the other fields are in English. This one field is the only one I'm having issues with.

I'm trying to understand how data is passed using foreign keys.
I'm using Allen Browne's 'Don't use Yes/No fields to store preferences' at: [URL] ....
I've also downloaded his sample DB, RelationBasics, to use as a guide.
Attached is my version of the Student / Sport DB as described on the webpage.
I use 2010 at home (saved as 2003 version) and 2003 at work (JPNSE OS). Both result in the same thing.
The problem I'm having is I cannot get the actual sports to display in the combo-box, only the Sport_ID number.
I've tried building both forms with and without actual data in the TBL_Student & TBL_Sports tables, but no mater what the result is the same.
Is there a way to run a query against a table that would return the column names, no data just the column names.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIn my form (source tblJobs) i input a contract number from tblContracts. but i would also like it to show the contract address when the contract number is entered. Both fields belong to tblContracts but i only wish to enter the contract number, the address will just be used as a reference as it isnt something i would have to enter again.
So for example
112 - Main Road
If i enter 122 in my ContractNo field i would like it to show the contract address for that specific contract.
Can i do this? If So how?
I've got a table - "Products" - in my database, with a text field - "Info" - which contains info about products.
Within this field I would like to have footnotes. To do this, I think the best way to do it is by putting numbers inside the text at the location of where I want the footnote to refer to. These numbers will actually be foreign keys to a table called 'Footnotes'.
I can then program the forms and reports to show any numbers as superscripts or whatever.
(Of course, if the user will actually want to insert a number into the text field which is NOT a reference to a footnote, I will have to make a workaround e.g. by making access put a symbol in front of the number, so access will know the number is just part of the text (and I will program the form to not show the symbol in front of the number)).
Is it wrong to have foreign keys within a text field? I think if executed correctly, it should work perfectly.
In a nutshell, I have a form where the 'Record Source' is a table titled 't_02_0_Assets'. I have several fields in the table that have foreign key references that utilize the Lookup Combo Box display control to allow users to select from a drop down list in the form.
The issue I am having is that I can't filter the text in the foreign key fields (only the ID's ).
My attempted solution was to create a control on the form (text box) and bind it to each of the foreign key ID's using the DLookUp function and then reference this control in the filter code.
My question is... how do I reference this DLookUp textbox in my filter VbCode?
I have attached a '.jpg' image of various aspects of the form including the filter code on the 'On Change' event.
I am making a database, but lets say I have 12 locations and have say between 2-100 named people at each location.
I want to be able to link 2 databases together.
I can use lookup wizard to select either a location, but I also want access to display the names at ONLY the location previously selected (IE: Paul and Bert are in Brazil, Steve and Carl are in Cuba, I want once Brazil is selected only Paul and Bert to appear as options). I'm sure it's fairly basic but a having a little trouble with it, and not knowing the technical terms is making it hard to look up.
So what I've basically got here is a form with 4 combo boxes and a button that when clicked will filter the results of a table (which is a subform/subreport) based on the values inside the combo boxes. So the problem I have is that when I open up the form it displays a fully filled table but I just want to display the row names and a blank table until the filter button is pressed.

This works fine but where the TYPE field is enetred as another category other than workboat, the DWT field is still missing. Am I missing the Else part?

I have a form with several data fields on it. I also have a button on the form that allows the user to duplicate a record . The reason for this duplication is so that if there will be an additional client record for the same customer, but only one piece of data will need to be changed, it's easier to copy the record and then change the one field.
However, I am getting the following message:
"some of the field names you tried to paste don't match fieldnames on the form"
and then not all data in all fields gets duplicated.
I need to figure this out, but am going nuts with it. If anyone has an idea or two they'd care to toss my way, I would be happy.

I'm having problems trying to get an If statement working on my form.
What I have is a form with two combo boxes linked to a Calendar when you click on the arrow. I can get the dates I select from the calendar into the combo boxes which works perfectly.
What I wanted to do then was create a textbox to list the number of days between each date.
I have created an If statement for me to do this, which works fine.
The problem I am having is that it doesn't seem to update these changes on the form after the date has been changed.
I have placed the code in the AfterUpdate event on both of the combo boxes and also in the Form Current Event.
Anyone any ideas?
If you want to see the If statement let me know, but I don't think it's that.

Here's a strange one.....
We have only 4 computers in our office. Our DB backend is SQL server and due to constant corruption of the database from multiple users, each user/computer runs its own separate copy of the mdb file.
I have set up a small form in a separate database to allow me to quickly compact the DB and copy it to the 4 locations on the network instead of doing it manually. This process works fine...BUT....I have a text box on the form set up to display the copy progress and the contents of the text box do not properly display during the file copying. Even though the code to change the value of the textbox comes before the file copy command, the textbox will not display the until after the copying is finished. However, when I step debug the process it displays the information correctly before the file copy command executes.
Here is a sample of my code...
