I'm new here so I'm not sure if this is the correct spot to post this question but here goes.
In the cube design view under the Calculations tab I have several calculated members that I have created. Each of these are dollar amount fields for which I have defined a Format String property as follows:
Format String: "$#,##0;($#,##0);;N/A"
This format correctly handles my positive value, Negative value and my NULL value the way I want. However I need to deloy this cube on one of my UK severs and I don't want the $ but instead I would like the pound sign without having to recreate this entire project to do so. I have tried the following syntax but it is incorrect.
Format String "Currency;;;N/A"
Can someone help me with the correct way to code the property so that I can get my currecy symbol based on the regional setting as well as handle my NULL values.
I have date coming to one page as a string in the following format"May 4 2005 12:00AM" I need to query one of my tables using this date in combination of other nondate values. How can I convert this date into valid sql server datetime format before I query a database tables Please help
I have a table which stores date-of-birth in varchar 19861231(yyyymmdd). A view takes this data. I want to store this date as mmddyyyy in the view. How can we achieve this?
I'm trying to create a RS report that will use an AS2005 cube as a datasource. I did try to use the query wizard from reporting services to build the mdx statement but I'm having a hard time with it... How could I use the following MDX statement in a reporting services report?? Do you have to use the query builder?
Here's what I need to do. I need to programmatically create offline cubes for multiple customers. Using VS2005 (C#) and SQL Server 2000, I am able to do this using the CREATE GLOBAL CUBE command. However, I need to create cubes from SQL Server 2005 as we have upgraded and the CREATE GLOBAL CUBE command does not work as it did before. I've search and found examples using AMO, but they create a server cube. I already have a server cube. I need to be able to create filtered offline cubes from the existing server cube. I've also read much on XMLA, but that doesn't do it for me either. The code below creates an empty offline cube. However, is there a way to use this to create a cube with data? I am creating this in a windows application.
I'm very new to sql and it's syntax (access users), I've played around with various combinations, how would I get the weight to display as pounds and ounces? the field type is varchar
This works to convert, but number doesn't display the way I want:
(dbo.BIRTH_WT_NUM / 0.035274) AS [Birth weight in grams]
Although I can create the local cube, the cube that is created is very large because it brings over all accounts for the employee. In AS2K, it filtered automatically and only returned accounts that had revenue, which is what I'm trying to do using AS2005. I've read some of the responses about using XMLA and AMO, but I am not sure how to use these within the VS2005 windows application that I use to create and distribute the local cubes. Does anyone have a good example of how to use XMLA, AMO or anything else that would allow me to programmatically create and filter offline cubes using C#?
For instance, this code DOES create an empty cube. But how would I go about getting data into this cube? Server server = new Server(); server.Connect(@"Data Source=c:MyLocalCube.cub"); server.Disconnect();
can any one sugest Quering AS2005 Cube to generate CSV or Excel in SISS 2005
i have a mdx query that runs fine in SQLserver 2005 but when use OLEDN source in SSIS and connect to Flatfile source i am getting OLEDB exception is there any work arround i have SQL Server 2005 SP2 on Windows 2003
Hey,I've inherited a project from my office and am stuck.I'm trying to take input from multiple souces (DropDownLists, TextBoxes, etc) and depending on which ones are used, update a SELECT string with additional AND statements. <script language=VB runat=server> Dim resultsql As String Public Sub Button_Click(ByVal client As String, ByVal state As String) Dim dv As String resultsql = resultsql & "SELECT ClientName, Address1, City, State FROM tblClient" dv &= "" If (StrComp(client, dv) <> 0) Then resultsql &= "AND ClientName = " & client End If If (StrComp(state, dv) <> 0) Then resultsql &= "AND State = " & state End If resultsql &= " ORDER BY ClientName ASC" End Sub </script>Now when I got to display the results of this new string in a GridView I am recieving errors trying to pass my variable "resultsql" into SelectCommand. <asp:GridView ID="Results" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False" DataKeyNames="ClientNumber" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource3"> <Columns> <asp:BoundField DataField="ClientName" HeaderText="ClientName" SortExpression="ClientName" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="Address1" HeaderText="Address1" SortExpression="Address1" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="City" HeaderText="City" SortExpression="City" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="State" HeaderText="State" SortExpression="State" /> </Columns> </asp:GridView> <asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource3" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:SQLConnectionString %>" SelectCommand=resultsql> </asp:SqlDataSource> I've scoured the web without any success. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I have to convert From Sybase to SQL Server and I've got fields type in Sybase which are long varchar (length around 60000). At first, I convert in format text but SQL Server refused to pass this type for parameters in stored procedures when i need that. So I have used varchar(8000) in stored procedures. But I'm afraid it would be truncated in the application. So what is long varchar in SQL Server and how to use that by optimistic way ? Thanks

Here's the deal. I'm a newbie trying to update a date (@Effective) in sql server. I've been trying all sorts of things, but nothing seems to work. Here's my current code:
Sub btnUpdate_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Dim sqlStmt As String Dim conString As String Dim cn As SqlConnection Dim cmd As SqlCommand Dim sqldatenull As SqlDateTime Try sqlStmt = "UPDATE [Submission] SET [Effective]=Convert(DateTime, '@Effective', 101), "& _ "[Status]=@Status WHERE ([Submission].[Submission]=@Submission)" conString = "server='(local)'; user id='sa'; password='password'; database='database'" cn = New SqlConnection(conString) cmd = New SqlCommand(sqlStmt, cn)
If (txtEffective.Text = "") Then cmd.Parameters("@Effective").Value = sqldatenull Else cmd.Parameters("@Effective").Value = txtEffective.Text End If cmd.Parameters("@Status").Value = dropStatus.SelectedItem.Text cmd.Parameters("@Submission").Value = LabelSubmission.Text
Somewhere, either in the aspx.vb code, or the stored procedure that's being called, it doesn't like my code since I am getting the dreaded "syntax error converting datetime from character string" error. I've been battling this for two days - can someone spot what is wrong here?
The dtWdate variable is coming from a calendar control on my aspx page. Please help - I've tried every conceivable way I can think to do this without success. Lynnette
Here's the code: Private Sub GetFLSAEmpInfoRecs() 'uses the AppSettings table to generate WHERE clause from the filter values
Dim dtWdate As DateTime = Calendar1.SelectedDate Dim wValue As String = Session("svFilterValue")
Dim cnn As New SqlConnection(constants.SQLConStrFLSA) Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("usp_AddFLSA", cnn) cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure cnn.Open()
Hi all, The last week this was working, and today i was testing and all start with errors. This is my SQL sentence:command = New SqlCommand("update ctlg_users set u_last_access = '" & FormatDateTime(Now(), 1) & "' where u_id = " & cstr(l_u_id),oConn)Is there an error? why was before working and now don`t?, including an old ASP page that i´m still using fall back to the same error when is using FormatDateTime, í´ve tried in the ASPX page using datetime.now.tostring("dd/mm/yyyy") but i got an error too!! I'm having a strange problem with the following stored proc:
Code:
sql
declare @orderBy tinyint
set @orderBy = 2
SELECT tblUsers.userID, firstName, lastName, dateRegistered, count(movieSessionID) As sessionsCount FROM tblUsers LEFT JOIN tblMovieSessions on tblUsers.userID = tblmovieSessions.userID Group By tblUsers.userID, firstName, lastName, dateRegistered Order By Case WHEN @orderBy = 2 THEN firstName WHEN @orderBy = 3 THEN dateRegistered WHEN @orderBy = 4 THEN count(movieSessionID) else lastName End desc
When I execute it with @orderBy = 1 or 2 I get the following error message: Quote: Server: Msg 241, Level 16, State 1, Line 5 Syntax error converting datetime from character string.
However, with @orderBy = 3 or 4 it executes successfully.
I don't understand why this change should have this impact because the error seems to be occuring on the first line (i.e. SELECT...).
If I take the dateRegistered column out of the query I get a new error message:
Quote: Server: Msg 245, Level 16, State 1, Line 5 Syntax error converting the nvarchar value 'Adam' to a column of data type int.
I don't understand why it is trying to convert these columns during the query anyway, let alone how to solve the problem.
I am using INSERT to replace about 160 fields for one company in the company table, all goes well until I come to the Rn_edit_date field which is a datetime datatype. When I insert the value of:
cast('2005-03-15 09:25:44.463' as datetime)
Error message as a result is: Syntax error converting datetime from character string.
NOTE: 2005-03-15 09:25:44.463 is the correct format which all other companies abide by, so I'm totally lost at where I'm going wrong?
I have a field that has dates that are currently set as a string. Dates are as follows:
Apr 01 2006 Aug 20 2006 Aug 20 2006
I did an isdate() function on the field to see if it can be converted and it came back as true; however, I have attempted several different ways to convert the field to a date field and it continues to give me a syntax error. Any assistance would be great!!!
I tried: convert(datetime,cast(New_Date as varchar),100) convert(varchar(25),New_Date,107) Both gave me syntax errors.
When I convert this data into a datetime, i get the foll error. Syntax error converting datetime from character string.
SELECT convert(datetime,'09/2007')
Basically I have a field in a tbl that has varchar datatype, and is in this format of mm-yyyy. I need to compare this value to current date and so I convert it to datetime. but it errs Pl help

I have verified that Label1.Text has a value that looks like an integer. What is causing the problem? Is there a better way of creating a new record in the child table and making one of the fields match the primary key of the parent table? Thanks.
