When using an Access Project 2002 connected with SQL Server Express in OLE DB it's impossible to work in creation mode. A message explains that this Access version is not compatible with this SQL version.
Is there a service pack ?
I have few queries:
(1) What is the maximum database size of Access XP and SQL Server 2005 Express?
(2) Is SQL Server 2005 Express edition FREE for development use?

At the moment i have a piece of software that uses Access to store the data into a number of tables.
I am developing a new piece of software that has been built around SQL express and need to upgrade users that are using access. I have managed to write the installation to install etc and also the start of a script to insert all of the tables. I cant work out how to get the data into SQL express using a script.
Basically the access db (CentralDb) will be stored a a given location C:Program FilesCentralDB.mdb
The tables within the SQL version are indentical to access but i need a way of pulling out the information stored and putting it into SQL, and as there is no DTS i am becoming stuck on how to automate the process.
Any ideas?

I have an Access DB with about 50 tables. When I run the upsize wizard all bur four tables import beautifully, data and all. Four of the tables fail with the message 'Table was skipped, or export failed'
When I try to IMPORT the data I get 100 or so messages like this one:
Warning 0x80047076: Data Flow Task: The output column "AssessPlanPHPID" (23) on output "OLE DB Source Output" (11) and component "Source - tblAssessPlan" (1) is not subsequently used in the Data Flow task. Removing this unused output column can increase Data Flow task performance.
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
And the import fails. Note that the upsize creates the tables just fine, it just won't import the data.
Any ideas?

Is it a limitation or have I not got the appropriate permissions set up
And if it is a limitation does it matter

Hi. I am using visual studio 2005 with Sql Server Express Edition. I haven't install sql server 2005 Professional edition on my machine. It works fine. The connection string is:

You can see I haven't hardcoded machine name and there is no absolute path.
I have open the website on another machine and it works fine. Now , i have open this project on third machine but it doesn't work and gives the following error:
"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)"
I think there is some problem with sql server configuration . Please help me in this regards. I will be very thankful to you.

I was just trying to get some information on how to move an Access 2002 db to MS SQL. Also, what all do I need to be able to access the db from the web. For instance, query the db for info from a website. I don't have that much experience in SQL but I quiet a few programming languages so i'm sure i'll learn it quick, I usually do. Right now I have a server set up with MS SQL server 2005 with all the other things required for testing over in my own little world. DNS, Active Dir., etc....
I'm trying to do this because a friend of a friend has a business(small businessish) who wants to be able to view reports from queries over the internet. And i'm sure I can do it but i told them to let me give it a test run to make sure I can before we commit.

In my SQL Server Express (that is installed in my Windows XP Pro PC), SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration has Protocols for SQLEXPRESS. I tried to do "Enabling CLR Integration" in my SQL Server Express: (1) If I clicked on "Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections", I got an error "An exception occurred in SMO while trying to manage a service, (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) Additional information: Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum) The operation could not be completed. (WinMgmt). (2) If I clicked on "Surface Area Configuration for Features, I got a different error "Computer localhost does not exist on the network, or the computer cannot be configured remotely. Verify that the remote computer has the required computer has the required Windows Management Instrumentation components and then try again. (SQLSAC) Additional Information: An exception occurred in SMO while trying to manage a service. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo). Failed to retrieve data for this request. In my office computer network system (LAN), my Windows XP Pro PC has SQL Server Express and VB 2005 Express installed and I was granted to have the Administrator priviledge to access SQL Server Express. I tried to create a SQLCLR project in my terminal PC.
1) I tried to set up a remote connection to SQL Server Express in the following way: SQL Server EXpress => SQL Server Surface Area Configuration. In the Surface Area Configuration for Service and Connection - local, I clicked on Remote Connection of Database Engine, SQLEXPRESS and I had a "dot" on "Local and remote connections" and "Using TCP/IP only". Then I clicked on "Apply" and "OK" buttons. Then I went to restart my database engine in SQL Server Management. When I went to check SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration, I saw the arrow is pointing to "Service", not to "Remote Connections"!!!??? Is it right/normal? Please comment on this matter and tell me how I can have "Remote Connecton" on after I selected it.
2) After I restarted the database engine (I guess!!), I executed the following project code (copied from a book) in my VB 2005 Express:

Currently i have a SQL database on our server and an adp file that allows the end user to open the database to play with the data.
On the client side the user navigates to the adp file from above and opens it which allows them to do their work.
I need the same database but for another department, so i copied the SQL and adp file to another folder and renamed it. I then open the adp file from the new folder created using Access 2002 on Win XP Pro SP2, click File navigate to connection and refresh the data source and server name but i cant see the new database i copied over.
I then stop/start the Sql server but same issue. I now think i might need an ODBC connection but when going into ODBC the other database has no connection setup in there therefore i guess i dont need to for the new database. I type the name of the new database in connection (Access 2002) and comes back with an error (Cant find it)
Any idea about this one? all im trying to do is have the same database with a different name and allowing clients to connect to it?

I do not understand the concepts and procedures to do Xcopy and User Instances for non-administrators completely-I do not know how to connect to databases and create database diagrams or schemas using the Database Explorer. I have a stand-alone Windows XP Pro PC. I have created a ChemDatabase with 3 dbo tables in the SQL Server Management Studio of my SQL Server Express and a website of my VWD Express application with an App_Data folder. I am not able to proceed to use Xcopy and user instance to bring the 3 dbo tables of ChemDatabase to my App_Data folder. Please help and give me some detailed procedures/instructions to bring the 3 dbo tables of ChemDatabase (or ChemDatabase itself) from the SQL Server Management Studio Express to the App_Data folder of the website of my VWD Express project?

I have developed a web application using ASP 3.0 with a Access DB 2002 backend. I have decided to recently to upgrade the database to SQL 2005 but I am having issues that I cannot work out because I am new to MsSql Language. It appears that the FORMAT function in Access does not work in MsSql ( does not recognise the function ) along with some of the PIVOT and TRANSFORM calls (coming up with "Syntax error near "..."") . I like to give First Name and Last Name in two different text box and then hit the delete button (command button). Then it will do a query to find the person and delete the corresponding record from the table. Any kind of help will be appreciated. Thank you.

I have function that returns a table of information about properties. I'm using Access 2003 that I ran a database through the Upzinging Wizard with a copy of SQL Server 2005.
I have searched the Office Update pages and can't locate anything that helps, although I'm sure I'm probably missing something.
Any suggestions?

I have an Access .adp file that's connected to a SQL Server. I can run small queries just fine, but some of my queries take several minutes to run. When I try to run a lengthy query I get an error message that says "Timeout Expired".
I believe that this error is the one that is described here on MSDN online:

I tried to implement a solution similar to this in .adp file by creating this subroutine:

I know that the subroutine is running because I'm seeing the message in the MsgBox statement. (This sub runs everytime the .adp file is opened).
However, doing this still doesn't seem to prevent me from getting the "Timeout Expired" error message when I try to run a lengthy query.
Does anyone know a way around this? I believe the default timeout is 30 seconds ... but SURELY microsoft did not intend for .adp files to not be able to run queries that are longer than 30 seconds.
Looks like the Office 2003 MS Access has no support for creating a linked server and implement design changes. While you could link to the SQL 2005 tables, which show up as queries in MS Access 2003, any further use of the linked queries are not supported unless the Access 2003 version came out after the SQL 2005 release. What kind of an update is needed, or fix is needed so that Access projects can be developed?

Hello guys! I have to develop a new web based project. It's a web
portal for events. At the moment it's runnung on an Access database.
The new version should be running on a SQL server - the desicion is:
MSDE 2000 or SQL Server 2005 Express (Beta). What do you recommend? The
webpages are developed under .NET 1.1.
I installed SQL Server Express 2005 and was able to install the sample databases. I have been working through the on-line tutorial. In Lesson 4 of the tutorial it instructs you to select File, New, Project. However, when I select File, New there is no Project choice listed. Have I failed to install something correctly?

The IP company that host my site is installing SQL 2005 soon and I my building a web application with SQL 2005 Express. So the question is has anyone heard of any problems with uploading an 2005 express onto a sql 2005 server? I would like to find out now before I finish all of the work. Don't want to find out later that you can't run a sql 2005 express database on a sql 2005 server.

I need to know if I will run into problems with sql express on a sql 2000 server. I get the impression that my isp is using 200 server just by lookng at the connection string. Is there a addin I could use if needed I seen a post mentioning the publishing wizard cpt but not much after is it released yet. and then there is the web data admnistrator for msde will that work with sql express.One other question can I reinstall sql and change the authentication process from windows to user name and password.

I am attempting to install SQL Express 2005 SP2 on a Windows 2000 Server computer. Can someone tell me if this version of SQL is compatible with this operating system? I am getting a warning that my system does not meet the minimum hardware requirements when attempting the install.
I have 512bm of memory (minimum requirement is 192), a PIII/866mhz processor (minimum requirement is a PIII/600mhz) and plenty od disk space. So is it the operating system that is causing this warning?
I also have the Windows Installer 3.1 as well as the Dot Net Framework 2.0 installed.
Any ideas?
