Analysis :: Dimension Was Not Found In The Cube When String Was Parsed

I'm using SQL-Server 2008, Visual Studio 2013. I've got created Linked Object (Linked Measure) in Cube2 from Cube1. Everything was fine, but I edited Measure in Cube1, as I found documentation there is no ability to refresh Linked Objects so I deleted and recreated Linked Measure on Cube2. After It I can't process Cube2, receiving following errors:

Different Reportparameters For Same Dimension In Different Cube

May 24, 2007

Hi,

I have 1 report with 2 charts, both charts have their own dataset. The two datasets are mdx queries on 2 different cubes, but some dimensions have the same name.

Now I want to have 2 differenent selectable parameters for the [dim time] dimension. One for the first query in the first cube and the second for the other query in the other cube .

So I check in the mdx query builder, both dimensions as parameter, but because both dimensions have the same name, i have only one selectable [dim time] -parameter in my report.

How can i solve this?

Thanks,

Dennis

Dimension Usage Icons Playing Up

May 29, 2008

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had come across an issue where the icons in the dimension usage tab of the cube are not being displayed properly, for example if you use a many-to-many the little blue infinity sign is missing. It is a little annoying.

SP2 with BIDS helper, not to sure if BIDS helper did it or SP2, sure it was fine before

Anyone know how to fix it?

Cheers

What is the best way to achieve this?

Why Mining Structure Can Only Use One Dimension From A Cube?

Sep 11, 2006

Hi,

I am working with several tables, but for now I just mention 4 : one is fact table (named Usage), and 3 dimensional tables Periods, Products, and Regions. The fact table contains references to the dimensional tables. Table Periods contain two other columns month and year.

I created a cube containing columns from those 4 tables. Deployment was successful. Trouble comes when I want to create a mining structure using Time Series containing these columns :

- Period
- Amount (of money)
- Product name
- Region name

When I choose to use cube (instead of table) as source for mining structure, I'm forced to choose only one dimension (among the Periods, Products, and Regions). Whatever dimension I choose I end up being unable to use the column period as the Time-Key column. Effectively I cannot use Time Series method since I cannot use the column period.

(1) Why is this so [why Visual Studio forced us to use only one dimension from the cube] ?
(2) Why Visual Studio eliminates the column period, column that has relationship with the
time dimension?
(3) What is the use of Cube anyway to the mining? Is there still any use for it?
(4) What is the solution to that kind of problem I face?

Thank you,

Bernaridho

Slowly Changing Dimension Index Usage

May 22, 2007

We're using slowly changing dimensions to control a number of data tables in our system. Each table has five or six business keys, but the indexes of the tables are built so they're as efficient as possible (i.e. the fields with the highest diversity are listed first). How does the SCD wizard determine the order of the business key fields? Is there a way I can view or manipulate the statement the SCD task is using to make sure either (a) the indexes match the statement, or (b) the statement matches the indexes?

Filtering Out 1 Time Dimension Based On The Selection In Another Time Dimension

May 19, 2008

Hi!

Need some help building a query that does the following :

I have 2 Time Dimensions ; Time (Transdate) and ClosedDate (ClosedDate)

In my report/query, if [Time].CurrentMember = [Time].[YMD].[YMD].[2006].[200610].[20061031] I want to FILTER out all ClosedDate < [ClosedDate].[YMD].[YMD].[2006].[200610].[20061031]

Both Time Dimensions are Year -> Month -> Day and have the same Members.

I have every option available, using calculated Members and/or Measures to do this.

The report I'm creating is Aging of Receivables : Balance / 30 days / 60 days / etc.. But for the Aging, I need to filter like explained above.

Appreciate all help!

Stian Bakke

Reporting On A Cube -- Time Dimension Issue

Feb 28, 2007

Hello,

I have an Analysis Services Cube that I would like to report on. However, the Time Dimension currently only has four columns, Day of Month, Month(name) , Year, and DateKey (DateTime representation at midnight for every day). Thus when I drag the month attribute onto the report, it is sorted April - August - December - etc. instead of Jan - Feb - Mar. How do I fix this? I remember reading something in the MSDN Library about it but I can't find it again now.

Data Mining Against A Cube With Time Dimension

Nov 21, 2006

We have a set of cubes and dimensions, and we're experimenting with data mining against the cubes (primarily for forecasting applications). We have a custom time dimension (which we call calendar), not generated by the BIStudio wizard. The dimension has year/month/day/hour/... attributes. But when I try to add this Calendar dimension to the mining structure as a nested table using BI studio, it only shows the Year attribute, not the others. Other dimensions seem to show all the attributes.

Is there something we've done wrong in defining our time dimension? What determines which attributes show up as available for selection in BI studio?

Analysis :: How To Get Dimension Key Attribute In MDX

Apr 30, 2015

Many dimensions don't have unique members.  Instead, the dimension source data has duplicates at the leaf level: it's left up to SSAS to aggregate up to the actual leaf level used in hierarchies.

Every cube I've worked on in the past, a dimension is clearly defined in the source data, with uniqueness already present there: we don't make a dimension out of duplicated, sort of facty data.  This kind of design seems as weird to me as an unnormalised SQL database.

Here's an example to illustrate what I mean; I'll use that Adventureworks database.

We have a Geography dimension with a Geography hierarchy.  Levels go like this from top to bottom:

Country
State-Province
City
Postcode

The Geography dimension has a key attribute called Geography Key.  It's there in the cube design as a dimension attribute, but it's not in any of the hierarchies, so I can't query it in MDX.  But that's fine: it has the same cardinality as the lowest level (Postal Code), because the dimension has some kind of normal design.

In the cube I'm dealing with, it's all messed up.  Using the AdventureWorks example above as a parallel, someone made a Geography dimension with source data keyed on [PostalCode, ExactAddress], but only wanted the dimension granularity to be PostalCode.

This makes it very hard to debug why the data in this dimension is incorrect.  I can't match up the dimension members in the cube to the source data, because the dimension doesn't actually go down to the real leaf level!

So I have a dimension attribute called ExactAddressKey, but I can't query on it in MDX, because it's not part of any dimension hierarchy.  Unfortunately changing any part of this cube design is not possible, so I can't even experiment with settings and see what happens.

How I could get to the leaf level of the data imported?  Something like

Geography.Geography.TheInvisibleLeafLevel.Members.Properties('Key')

Or does this kind of dimension design result in SSAS discarding all the data that's more granular than the most granular attribute defined in any hierarchy - so that the data actually isn't there to be queried?

Any idea how to get such an "other" category?

Analysis :: Can Use CurrentMember In Dimension Security

Aug 19, 2015

I am trying to define the security based on Current Member.

Can i put following statement in the DimensionData - Allowed Members Set

EXISTS([Dim M].[Emp No].MEMBERS, [Security EMP].[Role].CurrentMember, "Uvw Security Emp ")

So that the list of EMP Nos that are visible changes when a different Role is selected (Filtered).

If not then is there any other way of achieving the same? What I want is that the list of EMP No that are visible should change when the user filters it using "Role" attribute in the "Uvw Security Emp" dimension.

If I add the Role attribute in the Dim M Dimension I think it will unnecessarily calculate aggregations, etc.

Analysis :: Calculation Based On Dimension Value

Oct 8, 2015

Need to resolve this calculation, which I would believe is something very common on SSAS environments.

Like many companies, my company has different ways of calculating Sales and the two I want to focus are Sales Gross and Sales Net.

At a high level, we calculate Sales Gross as Sales with returns, and Sales Net as Sales without returns.

We have an attribute called Order Type that has various types of orders a user can execute with my company. One of them is Returns. If you return something back to us, we record that as a return line on the sales table. With that, we can calculate that return, breaking data down by Order Type, such as:

Order Type Line Total

Mail Orders $ 776,655.44

Internet Orders $ 2,211,334.00

Call Center Orders $ 11,223,344.00

Credit Orders  $ (55,666.00)

Today, to calculate Sales Gross and Sales Net, we are creating two dimensions: DimSalesGross and DimSalesNet.

To calculate Sales Gross, we leave the data at the natural state, not making any changes to mappings.

To calculate Sales Net, we map Credit Orders to Call Center Orders at the ETL level, getting a Net value for sales (Orders - Returns), however, I doubt this is the correct way of doing.

I would like to have a Line Total Net / Line Total Gross calculation, which would be based on the Order Type value.

Perhaps using a CASE statement in MDX? Is the above possible?

Error Processing Cube With Disabled Lowest Level Of Shared Dimension

Jul 23, 2005

Hi,This is probably a classic scenario with a shared dimension that weneed to use in different cubes, where all fact tables do not offer thesame level of detail. Dimension is snow-flaked.The cube that's causing me troubles was designed by marking the lowestdimension level Diabled and not Visible. This allows me to get rid ofone of the snow-flake tables (the one with the lowest level), thusallowing an INNER JOIN with the remaining table which has a level ofdetail corresponding to the fact table. When processing the cube, I get a 'member with key '[blah]' was foundin the fact table but was not found in the level '[blah]' of thedimension '[blah]'' that seems to indicate that none of my fact foreignkeys exist as primary keys in the dimension table. However if I thenattempt to query the cube, all data seems to be there.Would anybody be in a position (and willing ;-)) to share his/her ownexperience working around a similar issue? Thanks,SRL
