I have a few questions about writing User Defined Functions in VB.Net for Sql Server 2005.
1.- How can I return a Boolean value from my functions? I want that the next sql stament works:
SELECT * FROM Table_1 WHERE dbo.EMPTY(Column1)
2.- Its possible to use UDF without the dbo.? String? Such as:
SELECT * FROM Table_1 WHERE EMPTY(Column1)

where each month field has a 0 or 1, depending on if the person was enrolled that month.
I'm being asked to generate a table like this:

Is there some slam dunk way to do this without a bunch of If/Then statements?
The editor compressed all my space fields, so the column headers are off in some places.
I have migrated an Access database to SQLserver,
all seems ok,
but I found that an "order by" on a boolean Access field, is reverse under
SQLserver ?
I had to add "desc" to my code "order by field desc" to retrieve the correct display.
Could someone confirm this ? I am very surprised.

Hi, I have created a report parameter using a Boolean data type.
When I preview my Report I can select either True or False for this parameter. Is there any way of changing the 'True' label to say something else and again the same with the 'False' label?
I have created a Report Parameter, and set the type of this to "Boolean".
This is displayed as a RadioButton with the options of True or False.
Is there anyway to change this to be displayed as a CheckBox?

I try to insert VB.NET boolean true values into a SQL2000 table thru a stored procedure. While varchar fields of the table are correctly filled, I'm surprised to find the bit fields all stay 0 after every single insert. This makes me wonder if VB.NET boolean variables can be passed to sp bit parameters and inserted into a SQL2000 table. Or did I miss something? Please advise. Thanks.

IsActive==0
And throws exception that condition evaluated as NULL where Boolean was expected. How i can make this work?
I have a gridview connected to a sqldatasource, and it works pretty good. It gives me the subsets of the information that I need. But, I really want to let them choose all the companies and/or any status. What's the best way to get all the values in the gridview...besides removing the filters :)
I thought the company would be easy, I'd just set the selected value to blank "", and then it'd get them all....but that's not working. And, for the boolean, I have no idea to get the value without having a separate query.

I try to do an ADO.NET 2.0-VB 2005 programming in my VB 2005 Express to get @percentage printed out in the VB Form1. I read some articles in the websites and MSDN about this task and I am very confused about "How to Work with Output Parameters & Report their Values in VB Forms": (1) Do I need the Form.vb [Design] and specify its properties of the object and classes I want to printout? (2) After the SqlConnectionString and the connection.Open(), how can I bring the value of @percentage to the Form.vb? (3) The following is my imcomplete, crude draft code:

View 9 Replies View RelatedA have a multi-valued parameter (B) which is dependent on a single-valued parameter (A) on my report. When a value is selected in A, I want all matching values in B to be selected by default and the "Select All" option checked. To do this I have set the Default Values section in B to point to the same dataset as the "Available Values" section. Both A and B have default values so the report runs automatically.
One of the values in parameter A (say Value1) yields more values in parameter B than the other (say Value2).
If I run the report the first time with Value1 selected as the default for parameter A, all values in B are checked correctly. If I run the report with Value2 selected the first time and then change the selected value to Value2 and run my report, all values in B are displayed but only the values that were previously checked (when Value1 was selected), are now checked, leaving the "Select All" unchecked.
What am I doing wrong? Why are all the values in B not checked? The dataset is the same in "Available Values" section and "Default Values" section.
I was wondering what should be used for a yes/no/ entry identifier . Should it be a simple int , tinyint , or uniqueidentifier?

the subject pretty much says it all, I want to be able to do the following in in VB.net code):
{[If [table with this name] already exists [in this sql database] then [ don't create another one] else [create it and populate it with these values]}

Im used to using access and now im gonna switch to sql server 2005 express. My program is coded in Visual basic 2005 where all connection is made to the access database by oledb.
Now when im creating the database in management studio express, ive noticed that there is no boolean datatype, but instead there is a bit datatype.
Is this the one to use, and would the bit datatype accept true/false values when sending sql commands? In visual basic2005 i think that it uses 0 for true and -1 for false or something like that, so when switchin database i would have to recode quite a bit.
Or is simpler than this?

I created this table

Insert Data

with 2 Unicode characters
= 0x2300
’ = 0x2122
Selecting the data
select Bez from testunicode
I see
"?’"
’ = 0x2122 is ok but instead of 0x2300 there is 0x3f
When I modify the insert statement like that ( 8960 = 0x2300 )
insert into testunicode (Bez)values(NCHAR(8960)+'’')
and select again voila i see
"’"

I am trying to 'load' a copy of a SQLServer 2000 database to SQLServer 2005 Express (on another host). The copy was provided by someone else - it came to me as a MDF file only, no LDF file.
I have tried to Attach the database and it fails with a failure to load the LDF. Is there any way to bypass this issue without the LDF or do I have to have that?
The provider of the database says I can create a new database and just point to the MDF as the data source but I can't seem to find a way to do that? I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express.

I have an app that uses a sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to connect to a sqlserver 2000.
Is it possible to do a direct replacement of sqlserver 2000 with sqlserver 2005 express just by reconfiguring the app to point to the express? The app would still be using the sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to try and make the connection.
If that is a possibility, what can be some differences in the configuration? Previously with 2000 the config information I entered is:
server name: "machinename"( or ip). I've also tried "machiname/SQLEXPRESS"
DB name: name of db instance
port: 1433(default)
user and pass.
My attempts so far results in

I am in the process of planning a server upgrade to sql2005 x64.
I created 2 linked servers: one to a SQL2000 sp4 server and one to a SQL7.0 SP3.
I have the following error when I query the linked servers.
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K" returned message "Unspecified error".
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K" returned message "The stored procedure required to complete this operation could not be found on the server. Please contact your system administrator.".
Msg 7311, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Cannot obtain the schema rowset "DBSCHEMA_TABLES_INFO" for OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K". The provider supports the interface, but returns a failure code when it is used.
I am aware of KB 906954.

I applied the instcat.sql on the SQL2000SP4 server and my linked server issues for that one are gone.
However, I ran the instcat.sql script on the SQL7.0 sp3 server and the linked server is still giving me an issue.

The original article uses the code statements in pink for the Console Applcation of VB.NET. I do not know how to print out the output of ("Book Titles for this Author:"), ("{0}", myReader.GetString(2)), ("Return Value: " & (RetValue.Value)) and ("Number of Records: " & (NumTitles.Value)) in the Windows Application Form1 of my VB 2005 Express. I am using SQL Server 2005 and I was having a problem with the owner of a particular database. When I go into Database Diagrams for the database I get:
"Database diagram support objects cannot be installed because this database does not have a valid owner. To continue, first use the Files page of the Database Properties dialog box or the ALTER AUTHORIZATION statement to set the database owner to a valid login, then add the database diagram support objects."
So I tried some different things (assigning different users as the owner) I was only able to assign one user as the owner (someone that is no longer working here), then I deleted that user (oops.). Now I still don't have an owner assigned AND I can't get into the database properties because I don't have permissions.
Any help would be appreciated.

I try to reinstall the SQLServer 2005 but I have problem when install work station component on my and the error is "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor". Please help me to fix this bug. I do not want to reformat my machine.

Hello all,i'm moving all my development to the new 2005/Fw2 environment.Now, i have an MSSQL 2005 server on the development server. To restore an existing database, i've created a new database with MSSQL 2000 compatibility level, and i've restored the backup over it. i'm using the object transform data task from a server (where i'm not dbo) to another server (where i'm dbo).
i'm getting data from a table. i need to select just some records from this table. i need to use a query like this one below...
select * from {table_name} where operationedate in ('20070101', '20070205', '20060524')
... cause everytime i run the dts the operationdate field must be filtered on different date.
so i tried to use the parameter from a global variables. i've tried lots of things but everytime i failed.
i used to try:
select * from {table_name} where operationedate in (?)
but it doesnt work!
any one can understand what i try to explain and even help me?
