I have granted db_owner to a user id. This userid was able to take a database offline, but when trying to bring the database up online, I got an error message 5011, user doens't have permission. Does anyone has any idea why? I read in books on line saying that db_owner fixed roles has permssion to set this database property. Thanks.
New to Database Mirroring and I have a question about the Principal database server. I have a Database Mirroring setup configured for High-safety with automatic fail over mode using a witness.
When a fail over occurs because of a lost of communication between the principal and mirror, the mirror server takes on the roll of Principal. When communication is returned to the Principal server, at some point does the database that was the previous Principal database automatically go back to being the Principal server?
OK. I screwed-up. SS2005. I gave a user ownership of schema "db_owner" and now I can not change it back to what it was (unknown) so I can delete the user. So how do I change ownership of "db_owner" back to what it was so I can delete the user???

I have created a job in SQL Server 2005 in which one of the step executes a .NET console application which is created in .NET to update some status to database before the next step. i need some help in sending some status back to sql job when i come accross any problem in the console application for ex when there is a exception i need to send some status to the job, so the job gets failed permanently. i tried few other methods of updating some temporary status database with this error information and have another intermediate step in the job to check for the status... it worked but i dont like doing it. please let me know if there is any other method to do this.

I have a Merge-Pull subscription setup on a laptop running SQL 2000 synchronizing with a SQL 2005 database. For the most part everything works fine. However, when I take the laptop off the network for more than 10 minutes and then reconnect back to the network, I see the following status message for the synchronization agent:
The process could not connect to Distributor 'OurServerInstanceName'. Specified SQL server not found. NOTE: The step was retried the requested number of times (10) without succeeding.
It seems that the agent never picks up and starts again once this occurs.
Is there a "best practice" for handling this situation? For example, is there some way to tell the agent to auto-start once a network connection has been re-established or do I need to have some other process monitor the status and restart it when it detects that it has stopped with this error?
Any other ideas?
I have a number of user databases who have lost their owner. That is, displaying properties for the database says the owner is unknown.
I assume that any user for such a database that's assigned to the db_owner role can admin everything in this database? Which means that the lack of a dbo doesn't cause any other problem than making it impossible to run a sp_helpdb for the database, or...?
Of course I'd like to make someone the owner, but it seems difficult to make an already existing database user the owner, without dropping the user and re-creating it.
I am receiving this message in my MOM Server:
The system stored procedure sp_helpdb, which is used to gather information about the databases, has returned an error that may indicate that it cannot determine the db owner for the database [model]. Here are the details: sp_helpdb @dbname='model' on SQL Server Instance: INSTANCENAME. Error number: 515, Error Information: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot insert the value NULL into column '', table ''; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails.
So, I run this script in the Master DB:
select name, suser_sname(sid) from master.dbo.sysdatabases where suser_sname(sid) is NULL
And I get the result that the db_owner is set to NULL!
I know that it is not possible to change the DB Owner of the model database but is there any workaround to solve this without reinstalling or similar solutions?

How do I get a particular user to be a choice under the db_owner role for a particular database?
The user is listed under logins and even shows to be the db_owner for the database under the database access tab of the login properties. This is SQL 2000.

I have a Maintenance Plan using the "Back Up Database Task" that is set to perform a "Full" back up of "All Databases" on the local server. However, it appears that the list of "All databases" are hard-coded to be those databases that were available at the time the task was created. It seems any newly created databases don't appear to be in the list. If I attempt to edit the task and select the "These databases:" option, the newly created databases aren't even in the list.
Is there some way to have the task refresh the list of the databases available for backup? Ideally, I'd like any newly created databases to get backed up automatically without having to modify the task.

I'd likethe previous nights file to be overwritten, so there will be only a singleback up file for each database (tape back up runs every night, so each daysback up will be saved on tape).Every night the maintenance plan makes a back up of all the databases to anew file with a datetime stamp, meaning the previous nights file stillexists. Even when I check "Remove files older than 22 hours" the previousnights file still exists. I am trying to back up database to a different server. I am able to map the serve to my current ones, however, when I go to Enterprise Manager - back up DB, I can not see the mapped drive from back up file location, I wasn't able to see any other disk location but the local drives.

I'm getting the following error message in NT event view:
Error: 9002, Severity: 17, State: 2
The log file for database 'db_sys' is full. Back up the transaction log for the database to free up some log space.
But I don't know how to back up the transaction log for the database.
Do I need TRUNCTE LOG (in E.M) to free up some log space?
I only know back up all the database using ALL TASKS -> BACKUP DATABASE in E.M. Please help me. Thanks in advance.

I had to transfer my database from one server to another. Both are running SQL 2000. I backed the database up and moved it to the new server however when I try to do a restore I get the following message:
The media set for database "xxx' has 2 family members but only 1 are provided. RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally.
I did some searching and found a couple of posts that mentioned something about the back up including 2 files.
My problem is that the machine I backed this up from crashed when it was shut down and would not reboot so all of the data and the original database do not exist. Is there any hope of restoring this database. It is pretty critical.
