Jul 20, 2005Hi there...I use SQL server integrated security so when a user opens a database inaccess it prompts the username & password in a small popup box onconnection, but I'd like to use my own customised form for theauthentication process, is this possible? I do know that this login popboxis displayed before any forms are loaded, can it be said that on databaseconenct that the form is opened? IWAM Login Failed When Connecting To SQL Server
Nov 18, 2003I just loaded the .NET framework on one of my servers. The server is a Windows 2000 domain controller running SQL Server 7. I created an aspx file that runs fine on my Windows XP Pro machine. I copied the file to the Windows 2000 Server. When I attempt to run the file the following error message is returned:
Login failed for user 'PDMFN1IWAM_PDMFN'.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'PDMFN1IWAM_PDMFN'.
The IWAM_PDMFN account does exist. I've never had to add the IWAM user to SQL Server users in the past.
Does anyone have any information about this error?

Login Form Gets Ignored
Jun 8, 2006I have a Visual Basic application that connects to a SQL server database. In my application, I have a login screen that is supposed to pause the application (it's coded as modal) and ask the user for a login and password. I have my connection string and user set up to use Windows NT authentication.
However, what is happening with my application is that as soon as I start the program, it never stops at the login screen, but instead goes right into the application.
Is this "normal" when using Windows NT authentication? What causes this behavior? How can I make my program stop at the login screen, and more interestingly, would I want to stop at a login screen?

Data Access :: Connecting To Server Using SSMS - Login Failed For User
Mar 21, 2014I have a windows 2008 with SQL Server 2008 R2 VM on Azure. I am trying to connect to the SQL server for the first time using SSMS, but have not been able it. I have a VPN tunnel, so I am connecting using Windows authentication. The error I get back from SSMS is:
Login failed for user 'domainusername'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18456).In the event viewer I see this error message: Login failed for user 'domainusername'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors. [CLIENT: <local machine>]
I have done the following:
- created an endpoint for port 1433
- opened port 1433 in the firewall
- Ran the MSSQLSERVER service as the build-in users Network Services, Local System, and Local Service, and as a local and domain administrator, with the same exact result each time.
- I get the same result trying to connect locally or remotely.
- I get the same result trying to connect using sqlcmd.
Login Failure Issue With Crystal Reports Connecting To SQL Server 2005

My application uses "crystal reports" control to integrate some reports that can be viewed from within the application.
I'm getting a login failed (due to bad password SQL State 8) error when I bring up the report from within the application. The report runs fine outside the application with the same username password.
- I've checked several times to make sure that I'm passing the correct username/password from the application.
- All letters in the password are lower case. There is not case-sensitive issue.
- I printed the username and password on a pop-up to see what values are passed , and they are correct.
- A single test page that uses the same version of "Crystal Reports" control , using the same username/password, brings up the same report works fine.
I guess , my question is:
Is there a way to trace the login failure event on the SQL Server side to see what is the value of the password that is being sent by crystal reports control?
I'm using Crystal Reports XI with sp2.
SQL Server 2005.

Dec 23, 2005Heya Everyone !I am new in Asp.net - I've read tutorial at this page, but i have some problems.I want to have a login form at my website. I also want that login form is checking if user is in a user table (database). I mean simply login form - you write login and a password, than click button - site execute query (select * from user_table where user_id=login and user_password=password or something like this). But I have a problem with building this all code with sql connections. Can someone tell me how can I send query to my sql database ? And how can I display it? And once more - how set the cookies, but thats the other problem.

I made a Windows forms app using vb.net (VS2005) and SQL server 2005 Express Edition (to which I'm new). During the creation of the app I used windows authentication in the connection string. Now I want to secure the app, meaning I want the SQL Server database not to be accessed without a username/password. I guess the logical thing is to create a login form, providing the username and password so it can be used for connecting to the database. I thought this would be a standard (thus easy) thing to do, but no forum or article yet showed me a way to accomplish this in an understandable way. I also want to deploy this app using click once technology. I need to distribute this app on a cd/dvd.
If possible, can anyone give me a step by step scenario for this? Many thanks in advance

Sep 11, 2005Anyone live in seattle (meet on cap hill)? I have been stuck for weeks now and can't wait any longer wasting time - i will pay someone to set me up correctly quickly. I doubt this will be resolved online, but here goes... I need a datagrid to bring up simple database info (northwind) instead of showing the error 'login failed for mycomputeraspnet'. I am using windows authentication and my string is connectionstring = datasource=(local)\netsdk;initial catalog=Northwind;integrated security=sspi; persistent security=false;, I have seen online they say alter the authorization in the app virtual directory-- is that the C/inetpub/wwwroot or the web config of my project? I did so in the web config of my project, and also I added the impersonate=true to same already. I shared all the folders and made sure they are not read-only. I am flabbergasted.

can anyone help me regarding this problem:
Each time when I try to access the report manager from a new internet explorer window from another computer I get the login box. After filling in the domainuser and password I can access the reports. How can I manage that the report server doesn't ask for the login and authenticates me using my actual domain login ?
Accessing the report manager works when accessed from the server where SSRS is installed.
The properties on the IIS are set to Windows Integrated Security and both computers (client and server) are on the same domain.

Login Failed Connecting To New Principal After Failover

I have setup database mirroring on two Windows 2003 R2 x64 servers using SQL Server 2005 SP1 Developer Edition. Our application is connecting to SQL Server using a SQL Server login. The application is using ADO and SQL Native Client to connect to the server. After a failover, our app attempts to reconnect to the database. The reconnect fails with the error:
Cannot open database "db1" requested by the login. The login failed.
The login is not associated with a user in the new principal database. I run sp_change_users_login to reconnect the user and login. sp_change_users_login says that it fixed 1 orphaned user. Our app then reconnects successfully.
I have tried several failovers, and each time I see the same behavior. The association between the login and user gets lost.
The issue is definitely with the login. I tried using sa to connect to the database, and then our app was able to reconnect after a failover.
Is this a known issue with database mirroring? Is it fixed in SP2?

Intermittent Login/General Network Error Connecting To A Named Instance Of SQL 2000

I have a VB 2003 .NET application that I wrote for a customer that connects to a named instance of SQL 2000. Until recently it has been working fine. Lately the program either pops a timeout failure within a few seconds or a general network error. I've increased the connection timeout settings to 90 seconds but the error still pops within a few seconds. I'm thinking something has changed in the environment that prevents a clean connection to the named instance of SQL server.
How should this issue be troubleshoot to determine the problem and what areas need to be looked at?

One Form To Update Different SQL Tables Based Upon Form Selection

My company Intranet has a form that agents can use to post their comments about the company to upper management, but our customer service department would like to modify the form so that the agent has to pick from a comment type.
The dropdown options on the form will be as follows:
ComplimentsComplaintsGeneral CommentsSuggestions
Each dropdown option has a designated table in a SQL DB.Using postback on the same page, I need to change which fields of the form are visible based upon which dropdown selection the user chooses, and I need the fields to then be inserted into the table that corresponds with the dropdown selection item.
For example: If the Compliments dropdown selection is picked, I need a text box to show for the user's location, the name of the customer, account number, and the message box. Once the submit button is clicked, the characters in these boxes need to be inserted into the Compliments table using its data adapter.
However, if the user selects Suggestions, the name of the customer and the account number should not be visible, since these fields do not exist and when the submit button is pressed, the Suggestions table should be updated.
If you need more information, I will provide whatever is needed.

Have just tried my sql server 2005 connected asp classic website on II7 for the first time and have gotten some errors.
First off I have unchecked show friendly errors in IE and have enabled ASP to send error messages to the browser.
My error I get is when I execute a basic .asp page:

I got a problem.
I installed Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express 2005 version.
And I created a Compact database.
I created an connection in SSMSE to connect the database and opened a query form.
then, i run the following sql:
Select * from Table1
It returned 3 records to me.
After that, I used program to insert record into this table.
Then i ran this sql again, it still show me 3 records.
I closed the query form, and re-created a new query form, then run the sql, it returned 4 records to me.
Why? It's very strange and difficult to operate, right?
Is there anyone know how to make the SSMSE to return whole records without any close query form and re-create query form operation?

Apr 26, 2015Oracle and Teradata are able to capture the windows/client login that connects to their database with a functionnal ID.I've searched around and I don't think MS SQL can do this...I administer SQL 2014 server and also SAS Enterprise guide product. I've created sql server logins for several teams so everyone shares the same sql server login which is used to bind the SAS library to my SQL server database.
However, when looking at activity monitor, I can't drill down to which user is executing a particular query. I only see the SQL login which is share amongs 200 other folks.On the other hand, when they connect from SAS to Oracle or Teradata, I can see the shared login + additionally their windows NT login used to connect to SAS which is awesome....they can't fool me by using a shared/funcionnal ID....i still see who's using that ID...

SQL Server 2008 :: Login Failed For Login (DomainNameUserName) Due To Trigger Execution
Sep 23, 2015All the logins with sysadmin role are locked out in one of the SQL server. Also in that instance Logon trigger is implemented which allows only certain users with Windows Authentication to logon.
This server is converted into single user mode by using command prompt. Now we are attempting to connect to SQLServer using command sqlcmd -S FTCPU3239 (since we do not have any other login) and create a new login with sysadmin role but are refused due to logon trigger. it says Login failed for login 'DomainNameUserName' due to trigger execution.

Jun 5, 2015I have a server that has 20 databases . I have tested with few users with different level of access and all of them were able to connect to the server and also see, select, update , delete from a particular database which is kind of weird because they do not have a user login associated or mapped to that database. I checked and no user is part of any group in AD that would give them permission to connect . I need a query that would find the permission path of a user. I already queried with xp_logininfo but I am not getting any thing.

I only remember user name is 'sa'.
I haven't used it for two to three months. So I forgot password.
Previously, When I used sql server 2000, my login is as windows login. so no problem.
But this time, I set seperate log in and I got this problem.

Since last so many days i am seeing that someone is trying to login to sql server through login name sa.but that login is failed.and this is occuring constantly.
Earlier i had same login failed message for another ip address.i have blocked that ip address through access-list in firewall.but now i am seeing the same message for another ip address.
(1).how can i permenently remove this message from Event log.
(2).What is the impact of this on sql server performance.is sql server performance degraded by this kind of contineous attack?

Jul 27, 2005Been looking through the forums for a solution to this problem.I already tried granting access through statements such as:exec sp_grantloginaccess N1'machineNameASPNET'But they don't seem to work.. i vaguely remember seeing somewhere a DOS command line statement that grants access to the ASPNET_WP and that fixed my problem before on another computer.. but this is a new computer and i forgot to write down the command.Can anyone help explain and propose a solution to my problem.
