FTP Connection - The Connection With The Server Was Reset

Sep 28, 2007

I'm having trouble receiving a file via FTP. I've done this before, so I'm surprised how much trouble I'm having. I'm getting the error:

[Connection manager "FTP Connection"] Error: An error occurred in the requested FTP operation. Detailed error description: The connection with the server was reset .

I've tried to FTP via Internet Explorer 6, and it works fine. I've tried going into the "FTP Connection" and putting in the password, and clicking "test connection"... works fine again.

Any ideas for me to troubleshoot? I've shut down the package and re-opened it, but to no avail.

Connection Pooling, Connection Reset On .NET 2.0 SP1

Mar 26, 2008

Hi,

I posted the long version of this over on the ADO.NET framework group:
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.dotnet.framework.adonet/browse_thread/thread/51597180ec77f543/70e804505c2df829#70e804505c2df829

The short version is:

In .NET 2.0 SP1, Microsoft have deprecated the "Reset Connection" connection string API which, when set to false, stops connection pooling from calling "sp_reset_connection" on connections drawn from the pool. We need this for our DB security: we "EXECUTE AS" on connection open and since we cannot tell when it will close (passed to 3rd parties and there is no useful "closing" event), we must "REVERT" the connection next time it is drawn from pool e.g. OPENS. We must do the revert before sp_reset_connection is called or SQL Server kills the connection (security violation) - we accomplish this by keeping track of connections' SPIDs. We implemented this using EL DAAB + custom SQL provider which handled connection open event. Now it is entirely broken!

This all worked fine in .NET 2.0 RTM when we could control when sp_reset_connection was called (could delay until after revert). Now I've run out of options and will have to rewrite the entire security infrastructure. What I'd really like is a decent "closing" event on SqlConnection (statechanged will fire after close - too late!). As I asked in the full post above.. how are we expected to build scalable apps with the features that Microsoft tell us to use when they don't work together?

How can I REVERT my connection before it is sent back to the pool?

If any of this isn't clear, please see above linked post.

Many thanks,

Simon

Connection String Has To Be Reset Every Time When DTS Package Is Started

Mar 31, 2006

Hi All,

I am trying to import data from flat file to sql server 2005 DB table using SSIS. There are 4 different text files in the input folder. I am using for loop to iterate reading and importing 4 times. In order to do this I have set "Connection String" property of a connection manager to a package level variable using expression. There is a script which supplies the source file name and assigns to this variable.

The package works fine. The data gets imported successfully into the destination table. However, when I close the package, reopen it and then run, the Data Flow task fails with the error "Can not open the source file". If I enter a valid file name in the Flat File Source task and run the package it works again. As soon as I close the file/package, reopen and then run, the data flow task fails with the same error.

How do I make this working. I am planning to schedule a job which will execute the package programatically. In that case no user intevention is possible.

I would appreciate your help on this. I can provide further details if required.

Applying The Snapshot For Merge Rep Fails Everytime Because Connection Is Reset?

Hi guys, Im desperately hoping someone here can help me. Ive been trying to set up merge replication between 2 servers all weekend and it keeps failing. Im setting this up as follows

I set up my publication normally, and set up the push subscription, adn set it to initialize immediately. It weill then start bulk copying and go on for about 3-4 hours before it fails and gives me the errors:

Connection To The Server Was Reset Server Not Currently Accepting Connections

Jul 19, 2007

Hi there,

This is probably a really obvious question but I have been struggling with answering it for about two days now. (I may even be in the wrong forum) I work in a company with an internal network set up. I have been trying to connect to our website via FTP and it has worked ... well it did in the beginning. I think the server that our website is hosted on is a Unix server - this is a guess from reading the FTP transcripts of the various programs I've downloaded and tried out in an attempt to connect to it.

What happened:

I was working on an .ASP page in Dreamweaver, hit save without thinking, realised I wanted to make a few additional changes before uploading it onto the server, cancelled the transaction and voila. I haven't been able to connect to the remote server since.

Depending on the FTP program that I am using, I get a connection error along these lines:

- "Connection to the server was reset" "The server may temporarily be down or unavailable or not accepting connections"

I am a big newbie at this. I have turned off the windows firewall and tried turning on and off passive IP. I can connect from home but not from inside the building which has me think this has to do with a stray setting somewhere. My housemate suggested I try using the "telnet" command from DOS and see can I get any sort of connection from work. If I can't, he said, it's probably a firewall on the internal network itself.

Any other suggestions?

Help would be welcome!

Thanks.

ID Field Reset

May 15, 2006

This morning I made a change to two tables in my live system. All I did was add a new column in each called 'suspense' with a data type of bit and a default value of '0'.

When the users started using the system they noticed that the record ID numbers had reset and were starting from 1 and going up 2, 3, 4 etc. The last good id number was about 20500. The id columns are set as primary key with identity and increment of 1.

This shouldn't happen should it? Is it a bug? I never touched the ID column, just added the new one.

T-SQL Way To Reset Primary Key - Need For DTS

Aug 9, 2006

I have a DTS package that deletes all the records in a table and repopulates from an ACCESS table. All's well except the primary key of the target table doesn't go back to 1.

What's the syntax in T-SQL to accomplish that?

I imagine it's dropping the column and adding it back - but since it's a primary key field, regular drop/add syntax isn't working for me.

Any help here is appreciated.

Reset All Rows When One Row Changes

Jul 12, 2012

I'm trying to create a trigger that will clear the "checked" field when all items with the same classification have been checked.

The purpose of this is to do cycle counting of inventory, which is when you count the stock levels of a proportion of stock that have the same classification.

The checked field will be used to record the date it was lasted checked and will cleared once all stock have counted, putting back into the pool of stock to be counted.

Therefore, the trigger is suppose to count the number of rows that share the same classification as the amended row, and compare that with the number of rows in that classification, that have a date in the checked date field. When the two values are the same, reset all the checked dates to blank.

But when I tested it, nothing happened ...

ALTER TRIGGER [dbo].[UDEF_Last_Checked_Reset] ON [dbo].[ASC_PMA_TBL]
AFTER INSERT
AS
BEGIN
DECLARE @PartOnly varchar(16) -- Part Number
DECLARE @Rev varchar(4) -- Part Revision
DECLARE @PartCode as varchar(2) -- Part Classification
DECLARE @Last_Checked as datetime -- Checked Date

Reset A Database

Oct 23, 2006

Hi,
I have red this thread while I was searching an answer to my problem. Basically when you develop an app. you do some testing to check if everything is fine. When the testing is done you have primary key seeds starting from a number x which is not 1, as it is when the db is newly created.
I read about the truncate instruction (which I knew from mysql) but I can't perform the query because of the presence of a foreign key constraint in another table.

So I thought, maybe there is a way to tell the DB engine to disable FK checks while I do the truncation, but I can't find it in the documentation.

So the question is: using SQL EXPRESS what is the quickest way to reset the db state to its initial state, where all the primary key seeds were 1?

thanks in advance and sry if this question is already answered somewhere else, I searched but I didn't find a solution.

ReportViewer.Reset()????

Sep 12, 2007

Regarding this post: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/showpost.aspx?postid=2111183&siteid=17

This could be the follow up of that post, but I thought it would be a good idea to open a new post to discuss the ReportViewer.Reset() method.

This is the background:I was getting a "Execution '' not found" error when generating reports, VDeepak wrote something about ReportViewer.Reset() as a solution for this, so I tried with it.

At my workstation, running the project with VS2005 it worked flawlessly. Nevertheless, when I updated the files on the server I got an exception: "method ReportViewer.Reset() not found". Apparently, this was because of an outdated dll: Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms.dll. In other post, somebody told this could be solved installing the SQL Server 2005 SP1, I did it with no success... I found a SP2 was launched recently, so I downloaded installed it... Now another exception: a "http bad request exception". Desperate, I removed the ReportViewer.Reset() line from the code and uploaded the files to the server again. This time, everything went ok again, actually, I havn't found the freaking "execution '' not found" exception.

There are two questions here:

1 - What exactly does ReportViewer.Reset() method do? and why the same code could be failing on the server when it was working ok in the workstation (believe me, I tried everything, the only diference is this method).
2 - By chance, could the "Execution '' not found" error be fixed with the SP2??? I searched the change log and found nothing about it.

Thanks!

Does Any One Know How To Reset Sa Account?

Dec 28, 2005

I'm a programm designer, when using SQL Express Server,
one of my codesigner accidently changed the name of sysadmin account "sa" into somthing else, even disabled the login of this account.

since that's the only one account we can login, the database is now closed to any further operation above basic level.

looking for any possiable means to regain the control of database.

like how to reset "sa" account or reset the "master" database.

we sure make a "security database now" *_*
