Copying Multiple Tables From One Db To Another Using SSIS Object Model

Dec 25, 2007

Hi,

Can anyone tell how to copy multiple tables from from one db to another using SSIS object model.

I am confused with things like. Do I need to add multiple source and destination in a dataflow task or do I need to add multiple dataflow task?

What is the difference between these two? Is there any other (easy way) to achieve this?

Thanks.

Programmaing With SSIS Object Model

Jan 4, 2007

Hi there,

Can anyone point me to some sample source codes or any articles that describes how I can programmatically create a package which will import data from a flatfile (csv) to Sql server database.

I know there is some example that describes exporting data from sql server to flatfiles. Anyway I have failed to accomplish my goal by following those examples.

If anyone have a code snippet to do that please help me with that.

Thanks in advance

Creating A Script Component Using SSIS Object Model

Jan 2, 2006

I had a SSIS Package which was developed on Beta Version Of SSIS, Now We have Standard Edition Of SSIS(Sql2k5) Installed.

In the Package we have One Flat file Source, One Script Component and A Sql Server as Target, We are programaticaly creating the package, Now When we open this Package in the Designer and Try to Run We get this error

"The script component is configured to pre-compile the script, but binary code is not found. Please visit the IDE in Script Component Editor by clicking Design Script button to cause binary code to be generated. "

Now when we just open the Script Designer and close it, The package runs.

I found the Error description at this link
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.sqlserver.dts.runtime.hresults.dts_e_binarycodenotfound.aspx

but could not find any help on this.

Same thing use to work on Beta version now it is now working.
From my understanding the problem is that in beta version, the script use to run at runtime, Now what they have done is that they generate a compiled code out of script and run.

My problem is that since i am using C# code to generate the package, How Will I Create a Binary Code out of Script.

Copying Multiple Tables From SQL 2000 To SQL 2005

Mar 27, 2008

Hello-

I need to know what would be the best way to perform a task I have been assigned. I have read multiple post online, and I came to the conclusion that the Import/Export wizard was my best choice. I'm trying to copy at least 80 tables from a SQL 2000 server to a SQL 2005 server. Currently I have these tables over on the destination server (SQL 2005) but this data is outdated and needs to be updated. The ulitimate goal would be to set up a SSIS process so that I can schedule this process to copy over once the data has passed QA. I followed through the Import/Export Wizard inside of the BID and I manually highlighted all of the tables and performed a edit "delete rows in destination table" . But to my alarm this did not occurr and now I have duplicate records in all of my 80 tables. I'm going to go through this process again, but I wanted to make sure this was going to be my best option.

Any suggestion ?

Copying Tables Using SSIS Package

Nov 3, 2006

I need to create a fairly simple package. And almost because of the simplicity, I'm stumped.

I need to copy all non-system tables from server1.database1 to server2.database2. Additionally, four of the 30+ tables need to be renamed on the fly -- i.e. their name will reflect the year and month that the copy takes place.

I've tried using the Transfer SQL Server Object Task to simply copy the tables, but I get flaky results at best with it. Sometimes it tells me the source table doesn't exist, when I can clearly see it (and I've selected it from the list). And even though I have turned on the Include Indexes option, they don't always come through.

I'm wondering if I need to do a For Each loop looking at an ADO object?

Any suggestions?

Copying Tables DTS Vs SSIS - Speed!!!

Mar 26, 2007

Hi,
I'm trying to create a package with SSIS to replace the DTS process that we have in place already.
DTS package copy four table content from one server to another. I have created a simple SSIS to do the same processes but the process it alot slower than DTS!!

I did ran the SSIS package using ctrl+F5 and also from command prompt but still it's quite slow.
SSIS uses SMO to access to server and both are running on 2005

Thanks

SSIS Task Or Design Considerations For Copying/updating/replicating Tables From One Server To Another

Dec 13, 2007

I need to copy all the data from all the tables in a database to a copy of this database on another server.
What feature of SSIS should I take advantage of to accomplish this?

We have an SLA for 8am, most times the data warehousing jobs complete at 8:05am. Adding an additional process/set of tasks to this package would obviously make matters so I'm trying to update/copy/replicate the data in the fastest manner. Typically we're talking 2 marts (10-20GB) with 2 large tables (5-10 mill records) and 20 marts (0.5 - 5 GB) with many more smaller tables (~40 tables with record count ranging from 1 to a million)

Additionally please indicate if the design/feature you suggest can handle (pushing schema changes and additions to the target server) schema changes or new tablesviews added to the source database.

My only idea so far...is using the import wizard (in Management Studio) to create an SSIS package (top copy all the tables from one server to another) and saving it to the server, Then executing this package after the job is complete. However this would not work if the schema of a table changed, or if a a table is added. Moreover I don't think I can edit this package in visual studio.

Whether I need to create separate data flow task for each file or separate package? In addition to these, example : while importing product data into product table, if product ID already exists, we need to ignore it and upload only the new records.

Importing Multiple Flat Files To Multiple Tables In SSIS

Jun 27, 2006

I have a couple of hundred flat files to import into database tables using SSIS.

The files can be divided into groups by the format they use. I understand that I could import each group of files that have a common format at the same time using a Foreach Loop Container.

However, the example for the Foreach Loop Container has multiple files all being imported into the same database table. In my case, each file needs to be imported into a different database table.

Is it possible to import each set of files with the same format into different tables in a simple loop? I can't see a way to make a Data Flow Destination item accept its table name dynamically, which seems to prevent me doing this.

I suppose I could make a different Data Flow Destination item for each file, in the Data Flow. Would that be a reasonable solution, or is there a simpler solution, or should I just resign myself to making a separate Data Flow for every single file?

SSIS Transfer Object Task Error - Selecting Tables To Copy

May 4, 2007

I'm using a Business Intelligence project to copy stored procedures and tables from one database to another across servers. I'm having trouble copying tables or stored procedures using the Management.SMO.Transfer class.

I tried copying stored procedure with the property transfer.CopyAllStoredProcedures = true. This didn't work. As a workaround, I used the StringCollection property and executed every string as sql.

Now I'm having trouble copying tables. I don't want to copy all the tables in the database. How do I go about selecting what tables to copy. I tried using ObjectList property and provided the names of the tables in an ArrayList. I get the error

"Transfer cannot process System.String. You need to pass an instance class object."

How can I pass an "instance class object" for something that's in the database? The ScriptTransfer method fails so I can't even see the script that is being generated. There is virtually no documentation for this class.

Any help will be appreciated.

Transfer transfer = new Transfer();

transfer.Database = sourceDB;

transfer.DestinationDatabase = DestinationDatabase;

transfer.DestinationServer = DestinationServer;

transfer.DropDestinationObjectsFirst = false;

transfer.CopyData = true;

transfer.CopySchema = true;

transfer.CopyAllObjects = false;

transfer.CopyAllTables = false;

transfer.CopyAllStoredProcedures = false;

transfer.Options.WithDependencies = false;

GetTablesToBeCopied();

transfer.ObjectList = tablesList;

transfer.Options.FileName = "C:\TransferScriptTables.sql";

StringCollection coll = transfer.ScriptTransfer();

Multiple Flat Files To Different Tables (SSIS)

Feb 21, 2012

So we are running SQL 2000 and we use a DTS Package to load about 100 txt files to different tables in a SQL DB.

So in DTS packages you define the connection (database) and the different source files will connect to the connection.

You define the destination on the flow arrow. My question is how do i accomplish this in SQL 2008 using SSIS. (upgrading SQL).

Object Model API For Creating RDF Reports?

Nov 14, 2007

I need to create RDF files dynamically. As one example, I need to output a report that contains an OLAP table from an MDX query and will need to generate the RDL that represents the table on the fly. (Binding to a data source with any built-in control will not even come close to solving the problem. The actual requirements are extremely complex.)

In short... Rather than outputting the RDL XML the hard way is there an object model I can use to construct an RDL document with? Even if it's a bindhind-the-scenese, not-supported library?

When I created an SSIS package, it allowed me create package to tranfer data for only for one table from source to destination. I have created DTS packages in 2000, where you have source db and destination db and just add links for multiple tables. Is there a way I can do it in SSIS. Please let me know.

Integration Services :: Any Way To Extract Multiple Tables Using One Generic SSIS Package?

Oct 22, 2015

I need to export multiple tables from a database to multiple csv files (one for each table).

Rather than use SSIS and have multiple OLEDB sources and destinations (one for each table), is there a way to have a generic package that will export all the tables in the database ?

One way I can see is to use BCP in a loop - with the loop powered by a select statement that links to something like sys.tables etc, (or another table that i prepped with just the tables I want if I dont want them all).

i.e I would use a stored procedure that uses BCP (called via XPcmdShell) - so not via SSIS - although I could wrap up the whole thing in SSIS - but there is no realy need.

Database/Table Design Question - Object/Event Model

Dec 11, 2007

Hi,Facts:I created a database to support an application that tracks events ondifferent objects. The two main tables are tbl_Object andtbl_EventLog. Each table has unique ID and on the tbl_EventLog thereis FK for a record in the tbl_Object. The events are inserted all thetime for the same or different objects from the tbl_Object. There areabout 600,000 objects in the tbl_Object and 1,500,000 (and growing)events in tbl_EventLog.Question:The user often wants to know what the last event was for a specificobject.What is the best way of retrieving the last event?Should I simply do a max(eventdatetime) on a specific object? orShould I add a LastEventID column to tbl_Object and update it everytime a new event is inserted? or any other way to implement it?I chose the second method because I didn't think it made sense searchthe event table everytime the user wants to know the last event, but Iwanted to know what the experts thought.Please let me know what you think.Thank you,Oran Levin

Cannot Create An Instance Of The XML Document Object Model. MSXML May Not Be Registered

Jan 31, 2007

I have a small VB.Net 2005 app using the Microsoft.SQLServer.ManagedDTS.dll so I can use the SSIS/DTSx functionality.

The program ran fine in the IDE.

Then when I tried to create a setup project for it I recieved a warning that all dependancies for MSXML6.DLL were not found.

I clicked ok and the setup was created.

I tried to run the setup and it failed with "....msxml6.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147023782. ...

So I said cancel the setup and registered msxml6.dll.

I deleted my setup project and recreated it. This time I did not get the warning about msxml6.dll dependancies.

I tried the setup again and it executed without any errors however when I run the program I now get:

"Cannot create an instance of the XML Document Object Model. MSXML may not be registered."

So I went back into the IDE with the project and now it will not run either. IT gets the same error.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Integration Services :: SSIS Split Single Input File Data Over Multiple Tables?

Sep 30, 2015

I have a delimited text file with 650+ columns. The sum of the column lengths of a single row, if fully populated, exceeds 30K bytes.  The "killer" fields lengthwise are the "Description" fields. If they were removed from the input file, the remainig columns would occupy about 5000 bytes, which is within SQL max row length.

Can SSIS be used to created these two tables? (one without  description fields, the other with those field but arranged vertically in the table rows).

The fundamental issue is I can not import a single file row into a sql table because that row length could exceed the max byte count for a row.

Integration Services :: Loading Multiple XML File With Different Metadata In Server Tables With SSIS 2008

Feb 17, 2011

I have multiple xml data file in a directory say C:XMLData abc1.xml, abc2.xml, abc3.xml etc.

Need to loop through each file in ssis with Foreach loop container, and get the file name say abc1, and load the data of abc1.xml to abc1 table in sql server DB.

Next iteration will pick up the abc2.xml and find the abc2 table in sql server DB then insert the data in abc2 table.

While each iteration, xml source should also point each xsd file correspondingly.

 Tables are already created in DB

I solved my problem up to getting the file name from ech iteration and assigned file name to variable, in oledb destination data access mode I select Table or view name variable, then corresponding table will get selected for data insertation.

Just wanted to know how can I read each xsd file for each xml data files while iteration.

SQLCE V3.5: Single SDF With Multiple Tables Or Multiple SDFs With Fewer Tables

Mar 21, 2008

Hi! I have a general SQL CE v3.5 design question related to table/file layout. I have an system that has multiple tables that fall into categories of data access. The 3 categories of data access are:

1 is for configuration-related data. There is one application that will read/write to the data, and a second application that will read the data on startup.

1 is for high-performance temporal storage of data. The data objects are all the same type, but they are our own custom object and not just simple types.

1 is for logging where the data will be permanent - unless the configured size/recycling settings cause a resize or cleanup. There will be one application writing alot [potentially] of data depending on log settings, and another application searching/reading sections of data.
When working with data and designing the layout, I like to approach things from a data-centric mindset, because this seems to result in a better performing system. That said, I am thinking about using 3 individual SDF files for the above data access scenarios - as opposed to a single SDF with multiple tables. I'm thinking this would provide better performance in SQL CE because the query engine will not have alot of different types of queries going against the same database file. For instance, the temporal storage is basically reading/writing/deleting various amounts of data. And, this is different from the logging, where the log can grow pretty large - definitely bigger than the default 128 MB. So, it seems logical to manage them separately.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions from the SQL CE experts with regard to my approach. If there are any tips/tricks with respect to different data access scenarios - taking into account performance, type of data access, etc. - I would love to take a look at that.

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions,
Bob

Copying Multiple SPs In SS 2005

Aug 1, 2005

I am totally stumped. In SQL
Server 2000, I would fire up my EM and right-click on multiple SPs and then
Generate Scripts. I then would start QA and run the script on a different DB.
This was a very convenient feature to copy SPs over from one DB to other as well
as from one machine to other. I can’t seem to do the same in SQL Management

Now this may not be the right place to ask but since VS and SS go hand-in-hand, I thought I would ask.

Ideally, I would like to be able to click a button and have a script creating or altering one or more sprocs automatically run aginst all DBs on all servers. Likewise, I'd like to be able to copy DTS packages to all servers.

We use SS2000 SP4 and plan to migrate to SS2005. We also use ASP.net 2.0 and VS 2005 SP1.
