We have a SQL database that uses Active Directory with Windows Authentication. Can users that are members of the Active Directory group that has read/write access to the SQL database create ODBC connections to access the database directly and update the data? They dont have individual logins on the server. They are only members of the Active Directory group that has a login?
According to my technical support for web hosting, for database format they only use "MS SQL" operating on a windows system, usualy clients create they're sites on their local machines using "MS SQL".
I'm just wondering.....
Is 'MS SQL' free? where can I get it?
I also have the option of creating the site round an access databse but I'm worried about the security issues,
do you think it would be wise to use access?
Is it easy to convert a site written in ASP.NET&ACCESS into a site using ASP.NET&"ms sql"?
because then I could code a site in the former on my machine and then change the code to link to an sql server.
Hello, I need to create new MS Access databases on the fly from an ssis package, then add tables to these databases. Any idea how I could do that? Thanks
I want to create a report from Access Database. Can anybody tell me how to connect and create a data source from Access data source. A step by step guide is preferable. I am more concerned on the connection string.
I have an application which will create a SQL database(using CREATE DATABASE) and the database files are supposed to be placed in c:program filesmyAppdatamyDatabase.mdf
I have installed SQL Express 2005 and I want to create a new DB using sqlcmd.
I am running a command like: sqlcmd -i file.ini (I am logged like Administrator of PC)
the content of the file.ini is:
-- Get the SQL Server data path DECLARE @data_path nvarchar(256);
SET @data_path = 'c:Program FilesMyTestdatabase'
-- execute the CREATE DATABASE statement EXECUTE ('CREATE DATABASE DataCollection ON ( NAME = DC_dat, FILENAME = '''+ @data_path + 'DC.mdf'', SIZE = 10, MAXSIZE = 50, FILEGROWTH = 5 ) LOG ON ( NAME = DC_log, FILENAME = '''+ @data_path + 'DClog.ldf'', SIZE = 5MB, MAXSIZE = 25MB, FILEGROWTH = 5MB )' ) ; GO
I obtain this error:
Msg 1802, Level 16, State 4, Server TESTQ5SQLEXPRESS, Line 1 CREATE DATABASE failed. Some file names listed could not be created. Check related errors. Msg 5123, Level 16, State 1, Server TESTQ5SQLEXPRESS, Line 1 CREATE FILE encountered operating system error 5(Access is denied.) while attempting to open or create the physical file 'c:Program FilesMyTestdatabaseDC.mdf'.
If I change the security of directory database (I add "modify" permission to Users windows group) the error disappear.
I am logged like Administrator... why is it necessary to change directory permission?
I need to create a SQL server database and add some tables to it. Then access it with a C# application. The problem is that the new SQL server database and it's tables must reside on an external hard drive. How do I point SQL server to this external drive, so that I can create a database on this drive and then create tables and access data on it?

We have been asked to look into using stored procedures with SQL Server 7.0 as a way to speed up a clients site. 99% of all the articles I have read along with all the books all say Stored Procedure should be used whenever possible as opposed to putting the SQL in your ASP script. However one of my colleagues has been speaking to Microsoft and they said that that they were surprised that our client wanted to use Stored Procedures as this was the old method of database access and that now he should really consider using COM objects for data access as itis much faster. Has anyone got any views on this or know of any good aticles regarding this matter ?
Can I dynamically (from a stored procedure) generatea create table script of all tables in a given database (with defaults etc)a create view script of all viewsa create function script of all functionsa create index script of all indexes.(The result will be 4 scripts)Arno de Jong,The Netherlands.
I have some code that dynamically creates a database (name is @FullName) andthen creates a table within that database. Is it possible to wrap thesethings into a transaction such that if any one of the following fails, thedatabase "creation" is rolledback. Otherwise, I would try deleting on errordetection, but it could get messy.IF @Error = 0BEGINSET @ExecString = 'CREATE DATABASE ' + @FullNameEXEC sp_executesql @ExecStringSET @Error = @@ErrorENDIF @Error = 0BEGINSET @ExecString = 'CREATE TABLE ' + @FullName + '.[dbo].[Image] ( [ID][int] IDENTITY (1, 1) NOT NULL, [Blob] [image] NULL , [DateAdded] [datetime]NULL ) ON [PRIMARY] TEXTIMAGE_ON [PRIMARY]'EXEC sp_executesql @ExecStringSET @Error = @@ErrorENDIF @Error = 0BEGINSET @ExecString = 'ALTER TABLE ' + @FullName + '.[dbo].[Image] WITHNOCHECK ADD CONSTRAINT [PK_Image] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [ID] ) ON[PRIMARY]'EXEC sp_executesql @ExecStringSET @Error = @@ErrorEND
I'm new to using SSIS and have been reading and learning slowly how to use it. I'm trying to create an identical copy of our database for reporting. I've used the Import/Export wizard, but have had some issues with foreign keys and with sql_variant columns.
I've tried searching for anything but haven't had any luck as of yet. I guess I don't even know where to start or what to look for.
I have recently upgraded to SQL2014 on Win2012. The Access front end program works fine.
But, previously created Excel reports with built in MS Queries now fail with the above error for users with MS 2013. The queries still work for users still using MS 2007.Â
I also cannot create any new queries and get the same error message. If I log on as myself on the domain to another PC with 2007 installed it works fine, so I don't think it is anything to do with AD groups or permissions.
I wonder if anyone can help. I'm trying to create a new user/login to a sql server 2000 box which will automatically have access to all the user databases on the instance. The user can't be a SA or anything however. It seems this can be done as the application which uses all these database has created such a user, however I need another which I will then make read-only.
I am getting the €œoverflow€? message (MS SQL Server Database Wizard) on attempt of creating a project in MS Access using SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. I am actually able to open an existing DB.
I was wandering why is this happening and what can I do to create such a project
Hello, We have SQL Server 2005 with 300+ databases in it. It was set up by the conractor. How can I create new account with read-only access to all databases? Is there any "quick" method of doing it (like in Sybase, it is very easy). I've created new login, but I do not see where can I set up the permissions properly. Thanks
Hi I am using sql express to automatically generate users and logins from t-sql. I seem to be having a problem when it comes to restricting their access though. I only want them to be able to select on views and execute stored procedures. at the moment I have created a new database role, schema, login, and user, then added the user to the role but how do I restrict access to the above areas? do the restrictions go on the role, schema, or user? I must confess I find the whole schema and role issue a little confusing and just when I think I've got it, it turns out I haven't :( thanks
Hi, I'd like to create a temporary table (# or ## table) and have it available in DataFlow to work with it. I see I can create it using "Execute SQL Task" component in ControlFlow; but it's not available in DataFlow. It seems it should be created by a DataFlow component to be seen in the same DataFlow. Any Idea on this?
I developed a database with Access 2003 and everything was working good until my tech came in and reformated my hard drive and install a new Ghost image that met our company standards.
Now I cannot go in and make any changes to any of the tables, queries and forms. All of this started when a new Ghost image was installed on my pc.
The message I get when I try to open my database is "You do not have permission to run "tblSwitchboard." I get the same error message when I try to do anything at all on the database.
Hi all,My program is a central data processing application built in ASP.We have different companies that use different web pages on another webapplication (from different countries) to load some inventory data(merchandise - clothes). Here is my requirement: Load different types of data (in differentformats) into a common set of tables, to do this I have to firstfilter, do lookup's, use cross-reference tables on this data and thenload it into a couple of tables.Since data is so different everytime, I want to have one main storedprocedure in which I can build the table (I know the format of thisdata so I know what columns/types to create) into which I will feed thedata. After this I will create other stored procs/udf's that reference thistable (probably from the same main stored proc) 'cleanse' the databefore loading into the actual tables. How feasible is my approach? (if you can call it one :-) I do not wantto have seperate tables for each country, that will be too many and sothis plan...If not any other ideas will be really helpful.thanks much
i have an asp.net web application that uses SQL2000 backend. any users login to the application using a proper SQL login. so each user has unique logins
One of the roles within the application is to allow the user to create new logins for the application which inturn creates a SQL login. for this i have been using the following special sp's within an application specific sp:-
the only way ican get this to run is if the user executing the sp is a member of sys admin, ideally i dont want to be giving anyone access to sys admin. i thought security admin would allow me to do the above but it doesnt. Is there any other ways or ideas to get around this problem

How does one create a linked server to an Access 2007 (accdb) file? I am aware that to create one to a mdb file, the code would be -EXEC sp_addlinkedserver @server = 'SEATTLE Mktg', @provider = 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', @srvproduct = 'OLE DB Provider for Jet', @datasrc = 'C:MSOfficeAccessSamplesNorthwind.mdb' GO What is the corresponding code for Access 2007 accdb files?
