hi, i'm trying to create a table and populate it with data from another database residing on the same server. i've done this on oracle using tables within the same database and am just making a first effort with the added twist of a different database. this is what i've been doing so far...

....where TRI_2004 is the other database and form_1 is the table. the result is creation of the new table and then the output of the secondary query. i'm assuming this can even be done but if it can't that would be helpful to know as well. thanks in advance!
I am attempting to create a stored procedure that will launch at report runtime to summarize data in a table into a table that will reflect period data using an array type field. I know how to execute one line but I am not sure how to run the script so that it not only summarizes the data below but also creates and drops the table.
I am trying to create a table that holds info about a user; with the usual columns for firstName, lastName, etc.... no problem creating the table or it's columns, but how can I "restrict" the values of my State column in the 'users' table so that it only accepts values from the 'states' table?

I have a form with a drop down box so the user can select a quote.. When a quote is selected i need to populate a table of all the records associated with the quote id. I need the table to be created in such a way that the user can add new rows, delete rows and edit the data. Then all of the changes need to be written back to the database. Whats the most efficient/best way of doing this and if you have any ideas can you explain them as thoroughly as possible! I'm currently upgrading an access database to a sql server back end with an asp.net client and it's taking me a while to get to grips with all the changes!Thanks in advance,Chris
If I want to create an SQL data table on the server, I go to Server Explorer and make a small table with the corerct columns. Then I add rows programatically as needed from the Application I'm working with.
It would suit me, for a current job, to be able to create the table itself programatically.
I don't know how to do this. Can it be done ? If so, could someone give me a starter, please ? Four cols with a key in the first.
I created database using SQL server and runs under Cassini. The creation of database is ok but I have a problem when I am creating the table in database. Whenever I execute the code to create the tables, it shows the error message like 'Server not found' or just hang there. Does anybody know why it hang while I am creating the table? Is it because of the code or it's the time out error. Pls help as I am very new to this area.

I am extracting source data which is in txt fille to OLE DB destination. But data of each day I want to save in different staging table. For Eg; tblProduct20081206, tblProduct20081207. How can it be done. I have seen lots of posting and script when destination is Txt. I want to use same table for staging but want to create different table for each day with adding date extension.
I have a question regarding the dynamic sql. I have a script which which deletes all the foreign keys and re- creates it. So, I have created a table instead of a temp table. Now I need to create that foreign keys table in such a way that in which ever database I run the script, this foreign keys table should be created in that particular database.

Hi all, I'm trying to create a temporary table with one of the columns with a datetime datatype. Sql server 7.0 is giving me an error: Error 195 date is not a recognized function name. I am trying to create a clustered index on a View of a table that has an xml datatype. This indexing ran for two days and still did not complete. I tried to leave it running while continuing to use the database, but the SELECT statements where executing too slowly and the DML statements where Timing out. I there a way to control the server/cpu resources used by an indexing process. How can I determine the completion percentage or the indexing process. How can I make indexing the view with the xml data type take less time?
I would like to create a database for keeping track of payroll data for employees where the supervisors (job coaches) on our workshop floor can use a Pocket PC device to record the hourly employee data on the fly. Then at the end of the day, the supervisor can place the device in a cradle of some sort and synch the newly entered data into the main database.

I have "inherited" a project working on a SQL 2000 database. The project calculates commissions based on data from an invoice header table and an invoice details table. The goal is to extract data from the primary database tables, perform limited manipulations, and store the resultant data into a table in a different database for reference and reporting. I have the query complete that extracts and manipulates the data, but I am stuck in trying to add this data to the final storage/reporting table. I would also like to do error checking to be certain that a record is not "re-inserted" from the source data to the destination table. Thanks in advance, Barry

I am having a problem viewing data in a database table. The data is entered into the database with a web service and it runs without problems. However, when I open the table with the management tool, I cannot see the data I just sent to it. Also, when I try adding data directly to the table, the id column shows that there is data in the table. That is lets say the id for the 1st item is "1", after sending 4 records to the database with the webservice, when I try to enter data in the table directly, the next available key is 5. This indicates that there is some data in the table that I cannot see. Does anyone know how I can reslove this?Thanks!
