2 Questions (SQL 2000 To 2005 Database Conversion)

Aug 8, 2006

I have a db in SQL server 2000 developer edition. I am using Visual Studio 2005 standard, and also VWD Express. I would like to just access the database that is in SQL server 2000 so I can get on with developing the site, but VS2005 refuses to recognize the instance. It recognizes 2005 instances right away. The services are all running, the network protocols are enabled, uid's/pw all of that is correct. I am getting the "named pipes" error (the named pipes protocol is enabled).Any suggestions? I'd really rather just work with the db as-is in SQL 2000. But I can't get it to connect. I can connect to it if I export it to SQL 2005, (on the same development machine) but can't get the stored procs over to the 2005 db. So my web app is not finding the stored procs and won't run.Do I need to uninstall SQL 2005 from this box if I want to use SQL 2000?Thanks,--Donnie

Bit-data From SQL Server 2000 (2005 Working, 2000 Doesn't)

May 19, 2008

Hi, I am trying to edit some data from a SQL2000-datasource in ASP.NET 2.0 and have a problem with a column that has bit-data and is used for selection. SQL2005 works fine when declaring             <SelectParameters>                <asp:Parameter DefaultValue="TRUE" Name="APL" Type="boolean" />            </SelectParameters>When running this code with SQL2000, there are no error-msgs, but after editing a record the "APL"-column looses its value of 1 and is set to 0. Looks like an issue with type-conversion, we've hit incompatibilities between SQL200 and 2005 with bit/boolean several times before. So, how is this done correctly with SQL2000?  (I've tried setting the Type to "int16" -> err. Also setting Defval="1" gave an err) ThanksMichael

SQL Server 2000 + 2005 Working On Same Windows 2003 Server As Seperate Instances

Nov 20, 2006

Hi all,I just asked some people to help me out and phone microsoft with thefollowing information, kindly they refused unless we setup a supportcontract with them first, for pre-sales information. (That really doesnot sound like good business sense to me - anyway here is our problem,if anyone could help thanks)."To tell and ask microsoft:We will be setting up a microsoft sql server 2000 instance running on awindows 2003 server.1) We need to check this can run alongside a microsoft 2003 sql server(either workgroup or standard edition), on the same machine. Are thereany .dll clashes if we do this? If there are can we run SQL Server2000, in a virtual machine running windows 2000 professional. (I have alicenced copy we can use for this).2) If we run one instance of 2000, and one of 2003 of the sql servers, can one use the processor licence model, and one use the CAL licencemodel."Thanks for any help, and any idea why they actually force you to usenews groups for pre-sales information?David

Some Things Not Working In 2005 And Working In 2000

Mar 3, 2006

hi

I had a view in which I did something like this
isnull(fld,val) as 'alias'

when I assign a value to this in the client (vb 6.0) it works ok in sql2000 but fails in 2005.
When I change the query to fld as 'alias' then it works ok in sql 2005 .
why ?? I still have sql 2000 (8.0) compatability.

Also some queries which are pretty badly written run on sql 2000 but dont run at all in sql 2005 ???

any clues or answers ?? it is some configuration issue ?

Thanks in advance.

2000 To 2005 - Conversion Issues

Apr 9, 2008

Hi All,

I have restored a SQL 2000 DB in a SQL 2005 server. The views which were converting a varchar to string was working fine in 2000 and in 2005 the views are giving a "error converting varchar to datetime" error.

Any ideas to rectify this issue?

Check Database Integrity In Maintenance Plan Not Working In SQL Server 2005 SP2

Apr 13, 2007

I installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise, then SP1 and then SP2, Maintenance Plan worked. But if I installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise and then SP2 directly (skipping SP1), the Check Database Integrity in Maintenance Plan was not working. The error message is as follows:

Other tasks like Rebuild Index seem to be fine. SP2 is supposed to be inclusive. Does anyone have any ideas on why this is happening.

Lost Sa Password... 2005-&>2000 Conversion?

Mar 15, 2007

Hello, I'm running an MS SQL 2005 database which supports our entire website and it's fairly huge. I seem to have lost the sa password for the database.

I COULD get it back if there was a way to convert the SQL 2005 DB to an SQL 2000 DB, seeing as how I found a password cracker for that version. Is there anyway to convert a 2005 DB back to a 2000 DB?

Does anyone have any other ideas they might want to lay on me?

I'm kind of sick about this... I'm usually a really good note-taker; In fact, I do have the sa password recorded in an IT database that I keep. Unfortunately the password just doesn't work. I've tried the caps lock and other variations, but the password just eludes me.

Thanks for your help,
Chris

SQL 2000 -&> SQL 2005 Conversion Sql Authentication Problem

May 21, 2006

I recently needed to upgrade a sql 2000 machine to 2005. Instead ofupgrading the sql 2000 default instance, I installed sql 2005 as aseparate named instance so we could go back to sql 2000 if necessary. The web server that connected to the new server didn't have anythingchange on it except the database ip was changed tomachinenameinstancename instead of just machinename. SQLauthentication was being used and the exact same userid/password wascreated on sql 2005. I logged into the database server using the sameuserid/pass to confirm it worked. However, when using the app, it reported "Login failure for: username"error and I confirmed 600 times over the next two hours that it was infact correctly typed in. The "State" in the sql server log indicated apassword mismatch, but again, it was correct and I verified it workedusing the sql 2005 management studio from the web server itself. Finally I had the bright idea of making the password blank, figuring itwas getting mangled somewhere in the process...That worked. So my question is, what is going on and how can I set anormal password? There is no encryption of the connection string andnothing changed in the web app between converting the machine from 2000(worked fine) to 2005 (password mismatch).

2000 &> 2005 And Xp_cmdshell Stopped Working!

Jun 18, 2008

Hi,

I'm just moving over one of our databases from SQL2000 to 2005. Everything is working fine, and all web sites are working, however I just can't seem to get xp_cmdshell to function on the 2005 server.

I have enabled xp_cmdshell, and when I run a stored procedure, which writes the contents of one column to a text file, it says "invalid object name". This table is definitely there, and is actually updated earlier on in the same SP, so permissions for that are fine.

This is the line causing the problem (if I take it out, the rest of the SP works no problems):

--write the text file
EXEC master.sys.xp_cmdshell 'bcp "SELECT newslettertext FROM mydatabase.dbo.newsletters" queryout D:ewslettertext extbody.txt -U -P -c'

Error = [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Invalid object name 'mydatabase.dbo.newsletters'.

SQLState = 37000, NativeError = 8180
Error = [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Statement(s) could not be prepared.
NULL

Could it be to do with permissions on the master.sys.xp_cmdshell? If so, wouldn't it give me a "permission denied" error?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Query Working Fine On 2000 But Not On 2005

Apr 25, 2008

Hello to all,

if have a problem with a SELECT query that works very fine on SQL Server 2000 but not on 2005. I've transfered my db by creating a full backup and restoring the db on 2005. The db is working except this problem.

When i start executing it doesn't finish. I waited a couple of minutes. On 2000 it only takes about 6 seconds to run.

Here it is:

Code Snippet

SELECT * FROM PPS_TERMbesttmpwhere PPS_TermBestTmp.BestNr + CONVERT(varchar(30),CAST(REPLACE(PPS_TermBestTmp.Pos1, ',', '.') AS float),2)

NOT IN (SELECT PPS_TermBest.BestNr + CONVERT(varchar(30), PPS_TermBest.Pos1,2) FROM PPS_TermBest)
Any ideas?

Recreating A Sql Server 2000 Database As A 2005 Database

Jan 25, 2007

I am working on a project that was written in Visual Studio 2003 using asp.net and C#.  The project accesses a SQL Server 2000 database. I need to test the application. What I want to do is to copy the database over to a test server. The problem is that the test server only has SQL Server 2005 on it. Would it be a problem if I backed up the database using SQL Server 2000 and then recreated it on the server as a SQL server 2005 project? Would my source code accept the new database even though it would now be in sql server 2005?

Conversion MSDE To SQL Server 2000

Aug 5, 2004

Here is the scoop:

I have MSDE installed on a production machine together with a bunch of ASP.NET applications. I was asked to replace MSDE with SQL Server 2000 and move every application from MSDE to SQL Server 2000 with minimum downtime.

Did any of you go through a similar process?

What is the best way of doing this conversion?

How to move the backups from MSDE to SQL Server?

Is it possible to have MSDE and SQL Server 2000 coexists for a time while moving stuff around and redirecting every connection?

Any hints or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Problem Occurs When Migrating A SQL Server 2000 Database To A SQL Server 2005 Server

Sep 20, 2006

When I try to migrate a database on a SQL Server 2000 server to a SQL Server 2005 server with the Copy Database Wizard of the SQL Server Management Studio, I'm confronted with the following problem;

Performing operation...

- Add log for package (Success)
- Add task for transferring database objects (Success)
- Create package (Success)
- Start SQL Server Agent Job (Success)
- Execute SQL Server Agent Job (Error)
Messages
* The job failed. Check the event log on the destination server for details. (Copy Database Wizard)

When I take a look at 'Event viewer' on the SQL 2005 server, the following error is displayed;

InnerException-->An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.
When connecting to SQL Server 2005,
this failure may be caused by the fact
that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
(provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

I already enabled the MSSQLSERVER network configuration protocols (TCP/IP and Named Pipes ).

How do I solve this problem?
