Dataflow Tab:There Is No ODBC Source Option In The Toolbox

Feb 27, 2007

I need to extract data from tables in a database that I can only access via ODBC.

I have successfully created a connection in Connection Manager (ConnectionManagerType = ODBC) for this database.

However I€™m unable to add this connection as a Data Flow Source. There is no ODBC Source option in the Toolbox.

This is a major because we have been using the system dsn Microsoft Visual Foxpro Driver to access free table directory .dbf files under ODBC with DTS for years. To install a new Microsoft OLEDB driver for foxpro is out of the question on a production system as it would cost many thousands of dollars to go through our BAT testing process

How do I extract data from tables in a database via ODBC?

Thanks in advance

Dave

BI Dev Studio I See No DATAFLOW DESTINATIONS In The Toolbox

May 17, 2007

I just installed sql2005 and bi dev studio on a vista box. Then VS 2005 and all svc packs.
I create a new SSIS package but don't see any Data Flow Destinations in the toolbox while on the dataflow tab. I choose "show all" and don't see any data flow destinations anywhere.
I can use the wizard to create packages, and it adds destinations just fine.
Anyone have any idea what may be wrong?

Custom DataFlow Transformation Not Showing Up In Toolbox

Nov 27, 2006

I've created a custom data flow tranformation and it isn't showing up in the Tool Box Items to be added under the Data Flow Items tab (right click on tool box, 'Choose Items...', then clicked Data Flow Items).

I have done the following:

signed the assembly,
added to GAC,
copied the dll to C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSPipelineComponents.

It worked previously when I was just starting out, however now I cannot see it. What would cause it to not show up? Everything compiles fine. How would I determine how to fix it so that it shows up?

Weird!! &&< Sign Doesn't Work Within DataReader Source Connecting To Mysql Using ADO.NET ODBC Option

Jul 25, 2007

my package contains

Two connections ==> one is using OLEDB connecting to SQL server 2005 and the other using ADO.NET's ODBC option to connect to mysql;

Two "Execute SQL Task" ==> one gets maximum ID(bigint) from a SQL server table and the other gets the maximum ID(unsigned) from a mysql's table and bind them to two variables ID1(string) and ID2 (int 64). http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1902297&SiteID=17&mode=1 ;

And one DataFlow whose data source is DataReader Source which queries mysql "select * from table where ID > cast(@ID1 as signed) and ID <= cast(@ID2 as signed) ". To debug, I put a DataViewer between Data Flow Source and Data Flow Destination.

Run the package, I found no data coming into DataViewer and no error message as well. However if I remove the "<=" sign and change the DataReader Source query to "select * from table where ID > cast(@ID1 as signed)", It works perfectly. Initially I thought it's variable @ID2's issue. But if I replace "<=" sign with ">=" sign in the query ==> "select * from table where ID >= (cast(@ID2 as signed) -100)", there is no problem. After tried many times, I found that query just doesn't work with "<" sign or "between". Plus the result of running package tells it's successful but just no records got inserted into Data Flow Destination.

Anyone could help? Thanks!

Using A Sproc As A Source Within Dataflow

Dec 8, 2005

I was wondering what has worked for all of you in regards to using a sproc as a source within a dataflow.  I have had limited success doing this, but maybe there is a workaround I'm unaware of.  Basically, using a SQL command in an OLE DB Source, I run an EXEC statement that returns a resultset from a stored procedure.  I've noticed that depending on how the sproc is structured, I will either get metadata info in the columns tab of the OLE DB Source or not.  Without this metadata of course I can not link it with a destination, since the destination believes that no data is being returned, even if this is not the case.  This all seems to depend on the "final" select statement in the sproc being at the very top of the sproc.  If it is not at the top, the columns tab will not be populated.  Has anyone else had similar issues?  Is there a workaround other than populating a temp table outside of the dataflow?

ActiveDirectory As A Dataflow Source

Feb 27, 2008

Has anyone in here had luck using AD as a datasource? Big picture, we have an input file with unique identifiers (employee clock numbers) and I need to associate a clock number with an email address. The only place we have those two together is in Active Directory.

Currently, we have a lookup task with an OLE DB connection to our AD and a query that looks like

Code Snippet
SELECT mail, clockNumber
FROM 'LDAP://DC=company,DC=com'

I've mapped my input to the clockNumber in AD and all is well and good. I then go to thinking, perhaps it'd be better if I used that query as a source in an OLE DB component and used a Merge Join to make the link between the two. I paste that same query into a source component and boom

Code Snippet
TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio
------------------------------
Error at Create extracts [OLE DB Source [1226]]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x00000000.

------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Exception from HRESULT: 0xC0202009 (Microsoft.SqlServer.DTSPipelineWrap)

Is this just not something that a person can do or is there something I've set up incorrectly? I'd be lucky to be considered a novice with AD so I'm fine if someone has a better suggestion for retrieving this data, this was just something I'd cobbled together out of some forum postings.

MS OLE DB For ODBC With Oracle ODBC Source Headaches

Dec 25, 2005

Hi all,I am having trouble getting linked Oracle 9 server in MS SQL Server2005 Express to work properly. My machine is running Windows XP.The Microsoft and Oracle OLE DB Providers have problems dealing withOracle's Numeric Data Type, so I decided to use Microsoft's OLE DB forODBC Provider and an Oracle ODBC source. When using the Microsoft ODBCfor Oracle Driver in my ODBC source I have inconsistent behavior.Sometimes my queries are processed properly, then other times I get thefollowing errorOLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ODBCBEAST" returnedmessage "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttrfailed".OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ODBCBEAST" returnedmessage "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttrfailed".OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ODBCBEAST" returnedmessage "[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]".Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL"for linked server "ODBCBEAST".I have no idea why sometimes I can connect to the linked server with noproblems andwhy other times it performs like this. I'm not changing anything aboutthe system I can think of. When I use an Oracle client (PL/SQL) I haveabsolutely no problems connecting. TNSPING returns that the connectionis good.This is unacceptable so I decided to try my luck with the Oracle 10gODBC driver. However when I use this and perform an openquery selectagainst the linked server I get back only 11 rows, when I know that thedatabase has over 100 rows (in fact when using the Microsoft ODBCdriver and it works that's what I get). I figured maybe the buffersetting needed to be raised in the ODBC configuration so I took it from64000 to 600000 (a magnitude of 10) but I still get back only 11 rows.I'm at my wit's end.Any suggestions on resolving one or the other problem would be muchappreciated.Thanks much

SSIS Dataflow OLEDB Source Issue With DB2 Connection.

Jun 23, 2006

Hi,

I have problem to extract data from DB2 table using SSIS dataflow task with OLEDB source selecting the data access mode with command. Here is the scenario.(Note:If I select the data access mode as a table then it works fine.)

If I use the data access mode as SQL Command then it is not working. i.e. the flow stays yellow in controlflow nothing happens in dataflow and I noticed the SQL dumper and proc completes. I couldn't find any log to verify the issue including the package execution results.Any of your thoughts will help me to resolve this issue.

Thanks..Mako

Enabling Expression Builder For Custom SSIS DataFlow Source Component

Mar 13, 2007

Hi,

I have implemented a custom source component that can be used as the data source in the Data Flow task.

I have also created a custom UI for this component by using the IDtsComponentUI .

But my component does not have the capability of setting the custom properties via the DTS Variables using the Expression Builder.

I have looked around for samples on how to do this, but I can only find samples of how to do this for custom Control Tasks, i.e. IDtsTaskUI.

My question is, How can implement the Expression Builder in my custom Source component + custom Source UI. Or do you know of any samples which I can look at.

Thank you,

Jameel.

SQL Server Not An Option As A Data Source

Jan 17, 2007

I'm in VS 2005 trying to access a database running on MS Sql Server Express 2005 (local machine). In VS i choose Data | Connect to Database | and then i select change on the Add Connection Dialogue box. For some reason I'm only given two options which are the following:

MS Access Database File or MS SQL Server Database file. I've seen options in books showing MS SQL Server but that doesn't show as one of my options. I'm running the Server express locally and can access it through my Management Studio Express as localmachinesqlexpress.

Is this a limitation of Express or do i need to adjust some options in the IDE?

Any help would be great.

[Microsoft][ODBC Text Driver] In The File Specification '...', The Col1 Option Is Invalid.

Mar 23, 2007

I'm trying to connect to a tab-delimited text file using the ODBC data access. I set it up using Administrative Tools - Data Sources (ODBC) from the start menu, and clicked the 'Guess' button under Define Format.

The schema it created looks like this:

[cims_output_data.txt]
ColNameHeader=True
Format=TabDelimited
MaxScanRows=0
CharacterSet=OEM
Col1=SIMNAME
Col2=TIMESTAMP
Col3=SIMTYPE
Col4=REGION
Col5=SECTOR
....etc.

It looks OK, but if I go back to Define in Administrative Tools and try to review it, I get a similar error message:

Ini File (or Registry) C:Program FilesCIMSschema.ini is corrupt.
Section: cims_output_data.txt, Key: Col1.

Has anyone seen this before? There is nothing on MSDN as far as I could find. I read on another forum that if you replace the label 'Col1' with 'Col' the problem is solved but it still reports that the schema is corrupt when I try to open it in Administrative Tools.

Bill.

Does The RetainNulls Option Do Anything If The Flat File Source Isn't Delimited?

Apr 26, 2008

I have a flat file source that is "ragged right," which is where you specify that positions 1 through 8 is a date or 9 through 20 is a string, etc.

I'm wondering if the Retain Nulls option does anything at all for ragged right files. The only way to indentify a missing value in this file format is with spaces, and SSIS doesn't equate spaces to a null using either fast or standard parsing, which means it is impossible to have nulls in a ragged right file.

I was looking to import a date column using fast parse where sometimes the date isn't specified, so you get an occasional " " as an entry. From what I can tell by experimentation, you cannot import directly into a date field using any method in SSIS if your source file is ragged right and some dates are blank, because empty strings cannot be inserted into date fields.

Urgent. Output Columns Are Not Appearing When I Use OLEDB Data Source With An Oracle Stored Procedure In Dataflow Task

Nov 12, 2007

I am using execute sql task to run a stored procedure in oracle database which returns a resultset. This works. Now I need to send the ouput to a destination table in a sql database. Should I use for each loop to pick the resultset and insert it into the destination one by one (which I dont think is a great idea) or is there a better way to accomplish this task (in data flow task) ?

When I use dataflow task instead of execute sql task, the main issue is I am not able to see the output columns when I execute an oracle stored procedure, but when I see the preview I can see the resultset . But I can see the output columns for a sql server stored procedure.

How Do I Add An ODBC Connection Data Source As A Data Flow Source

Mar 2, 2007

I have set up a new connection as a connection from data source, but I cannot see how to use this connection to create my Data Flow Source. I have tried using an OLE DB connection, but this is painfully slow! The process of loading 10,000 rows takes 14 - 15 minutes. The same process in Access using SQL on a linked table via DSN takes 45 seconds.

Have I missed something in my set up of the OLE DB source / connection? Will a DSN source be faster?

Thanks in advance

Data Source ODBC

Dec 8, 2007

Hi all,

I am new to SQL Server. I have some basic questions.

I have installed SQL Server Developer Edition on a Windows XP Media center edition. The installation is successful. Now I am trying to create an ODBC, but I there are some options which I am not quite sure about.

e.g.

1. How SQL Server verify the authenticity of the login ID?
A. Windows NT....
B. SQL Server....

Client Configuration:
Server alias: ???
Named Pipes: What should be the values of [pipe name]?

or should i choose other options?....

And I when I use Query Analyzer to connect to Server, the authentication fails..

Can some one point me to the right direction, or if there's some documentation on this subject, that would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
