Geekz, My problem is that , I had setup blog on server say, blog.xyz.com [I am using blogengine.net, which is in ASP.Net]. It is using sql server2005 as a backend for storing its blog's posts. After settingup blog, i tried to access its database through my windows application. But while development I was getting error that "An error has occured while establishing a onnection to the server. When connecting to SQL server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the defaukt settings SQL server doesnot allow remote connections.(Provider Named Pipes, error :40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)" I am using [String ConnectionString = "Data Source=sql-v123.mesa11.1Server.net; Initial Catalog=abc; User ID=xyz; Password=xyz123";] Then I decided to created a webservice that will access the data from databse blog and store it somewhere in datatable and using windows application i will retrieve those data for end user. So I want to to know that whether i can access the datatable of webservice holding the blog data from windows application or not. if answer is Yes, then please provide me with source or some great links. i have recently started to work with the analysis services and i am having some problems.
i have made a web application that for now just tries to connect to an analysis server.
The server is installed on an xp sp 2 system.
for testing, i used my local computer, which is running also win xp sp2. After deploying, the application can connect to the AS server on the other machine. the problem occurs when i try to deploy the applicatuion on the production server, which is running win 2k3 server on 32 bit. When deploying, i use the same connection string, so it should try to connect to the AS server installed on a win xp sp2 system.
The first thing that came to my mind was to check the MDAC versions, be cause of the message: "Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed."
on my computer, where the application worked ok, the version is MDAC 2.8 SP 1 Windows XP SP 2
on the win2k3 server, the MDAC version is : MDAC 2.8 SP2.... i thought it was the version of the service pack, so o searched for the update of MDAC 2.8 SP1, trying to install mdac 2.8 sp2 to see if i was to see the same error, but i found that mdac 2.8 sp2 is only for win2k3 server, and for win xp is mdac 2.8 sp1, according to this link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/884103

I have developped an ASP.NET 2.0 webb application localy on my workstation and have the MSSQL2000 database on a server.There has been no problem accessing the database during development. I've created a windows forms app that connects to a sql server express database. now that it's working on my box, i need to install the entire solution on the end user's machine. what's the best way to move the database? I found this article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms165716.aspx but i'm wondering if anyone can give me some insights based on your own experience. I'm using ms visual studio 2005 and sql server express 2005. I'm hoping that all i'll really have to do is copy everything over to the new machine and then edit my connection string in the .exe.config file for my app.
Can I have an sql server database (mdf file) on a server and allow windows applications at different site manipulate the database.
As far as I am concerned the only thing that needs to be configued is the connection string..is this correct.

If I can, the best way to manipulate the database is to use stored procedures. How would I do the following to create and execute the following proposed procedure:
Insert data into a table Update another table as a result
Execute the store procedure on a form to execute these two statements

I'm writing a Windows application (Visual Studio 2005, c#) utilizing a local SQLExpress database. It consists of about 10 tables and I've created about 15 Stored Procedures to address various functions... I can run the update Stored Procedures interactively within the designer and the data tables update as designed. However, if I run the update Stored Procedures from within my windows application is where they fail. I get no error messages, if I return a rowcount variable from the Stored Procedure it tells me that one row was updated (SELECT @RtnVal == @@rowcount)... but when I open the subject table in the designer, there is no new data.
My update queries address both insert and update functions, so if it is new row of data, it performs the insert action, otherwise it updates an existing row.
I can query the data using my stored procedures to load default values into my windows form, I can search and find client records to display in the form... I just can't update records. I'm of the opinion that it is a rights issue, but I can't find any resources that address user access accounts with SQLExpress and windows apps. The current connection string for my local database is set for Integrated Security = true; User Instance = true
I've tried two approaches... one utilizes my stored procedure....
Both fail... which points to the only common point in both approaches, the connection string and user rights... but I can't find any place to address user accounts or configurations for windows apps.
I am attempting to write a Windows service that watches a database for uploaded files to import. When a new file is found, the corresponding SSIS package is run from the file system with variables passed through. I started development as a Windows app and copied the functionality to a service.
The app runs fine. The service does not. I get a "Failure" each time a package is executed. Everything is identical behind the scenes with the obvious exceptions that OnStart and OnStop handlers are buttons in the app. I added a script task at the beginning of one of the SSIS packages to notify me that it is even running at all. It doesn't even hit that initial task.
Again, the app will run all packages just fine. The data is imported and the results return as "Success."
The following is the code executing the package. Any help is appreciated. I've been banging my head on this one for a few days now. (Is there a tag to format a code sample?)

I have a small ASP.Net application developed in VS 2005 that I would like to deploy with SQL Express.
I have included the MDF file in the Application and added SQL Express as a pre-requisite for the Setup and Deployment project.
It installs SQL Express but when it tries to connect I receive: "This is not a valid login Cannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM'."
I don't seem to have any options using the "prerequisite options in VS 2005 in terms of command line deployment parameters.
Likewise I would prefer to attach the database to the instance (because I need to write a connection string from a PDA using RDA and I have zero clue how to do RDA directly back to the file).
I create a small aplication to lookup postal codes, it uses only some basic queries. It's a Winforms (using Visual Studio 2008) application, as MS put as local datase SQL Server Compact 3.5, I use it.
The application works fine it has only tree tables (with the postal codes of USA, Canada and Mexico) using the SQL Server Compact 3.5 database file.
I create a setup project and made and installer, in this case I follow the indications from MS to copy to the application folder alld the SQL Server dll files needed.
In Windows XP, the aplication works fine after installation. But in Windows Vista not. I found that as the installer put all files unde C:Programa filesMy CompanyPostal Codes folder, the application need's administrator permission to run.
I don't know how to change the database file to another location in order to avoid this problem.
Do you know how to avoid this? Maybe using a different path for my database file (if this can you tell me how to make the connection string to works properly) Or making the app to requires the administrator permission (I know tha in VS 2008 this can be done, biy not idea of how?
I am a little bit confused about making an installer/deployer.
I have an application using SQL Server 2005 CE (I have just updated to the most recent version Jan 2007). It will run on a new desktop PC (windows XP) if I install the SQL CE runtime and then copy the .EXE and the .SDF database file. This is great but my client wants the whole thing to install as one operation. I thought click once could do this but it seems that is only for Pocket PC targets? Can anyone point me to a method to make an appropriate installer please?

We have been conducting some testing regarding package deployment and SQL Server based configuration. It seems there is a problem that was documented in an MS Feedback entry (
I searched for a viable answer, work-around, or hotfix that would address this issue but found none.
The jist is that a package that uses SQL Server based configuration must have an xml-based configuration entry to "re-point" the SQL Server based configuration connection manager to the deployment target server. We cannot use environment variable or registry as this is against internal policy. The problem is that even though the xml based config is specified first in the list of package configurations it does not get applied first at run-time. So, when the package runs from a SQL Server Agent job the package's connection manager for the configuration entries is not updated.
The package runs correctly through BIDS. You can change the connection string in the .dtsConfig file and the SQL Server based package configuration is obtained from the correct source.
Environment is SQL Server Enterprise Edition 64-bit w/ SP1, Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Ed. 64-bit.
Does anyone have any experience with this issue? Know any hotfixes, other work-arounds?
I've been trying to create an installer for a little .NET CF 3.5 app I've written for Windows Mobile. It uses SQL Server Compact 3.5. I've got the .NET CF and my program to deploy on the device using ini files and ceappmgr.exe, but when I try to do the same for SQLCE 3.5, it doesn't work (more on this in a sec).
I need my installer to install across lots of different CPU architectures, so I created an ceappmgr INI file that includes all the different cabs for the different CPU architectures. I'm trying to test the installer by making it install on my smartphone (ARM CPU). The problem is, when I install it I get an error message on the device "The installation file is not intended for this device.". I reckon this means ceappmgr is picking the wrong cab file and trying to make my phone install it!
I did a bit of testing and found out if I remove all the cabs from my ceappmgr INI file EXCEPT for the one that is appropriate for my smartphone, then it works fine! But as soon as I include a cab file that is not appropriate for my device (eg a different cpu architecture, or the ARM PPC cab file), it stops working and I get that "not intended for this device" message.
My INI file looks like this:

Any idea why ceappmgr would be (seemingly) picking the wrong cab file and trying to make my device install it? Btw, my smartphone uses the "sqlce.phone.wce5.armv4i.CAB" cab file.
Hi, I am having a problem connecting my .net applications from the application server to the database server. When I run the application from my windows xp (sp2) box it works fine. When I try to connect via SQL Management Studio to the database server from the application server I get the same error. Here is the error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) Here is the Environment: App Server: Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition Inside Company's Firewall/ Network Database Server: Windows Server 2000 Advanced Edition SQL Server 2000 SP4 Remote Connections to the Server is checked Enable Protocols: Named Pipes & TCP/IP TCP/IP Port: 1402 (I don't know why it isn't the default of 1433) The db server is sitting out side the Company's firewall (don't ask me why). I can access it fine from inside the firewall on my XP box but not from windows server 2003. There is a web server outside the our network that also connects to the db server with no problem and that is running Windows Server 2003 Web Edition. I can ping the db server from the app server using the IP address. I tried using the IP address and the port 1402 in my connection string but that didn't work from any machine (XP and Server). I imagine the issue is somehow related to the company's firewall but why would it only block Windows Server 2003 and not XP? What do I tell the network admin to change? Any help would be appreciated. I am working on a windows application (C#) that utilizes ODBC to acces paradox tables (works fine thought this would be the problem database) and a WinMobile database(.sdf) in order to sync table records. What I need to do is copy the .sdf file from the winmobile device then access it with this application to check for changed records on the PC and in the mobile database then copy it back to the mobile device via RAPI.
The program compiles fine but when I try to run the application I get this error. Unable to load DLL 'sqlceme30.dll': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E) .
I have already copied the System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll to my projects bin folder and then added a reference to it in the projects Reference dialog. These were also copied to the bin folder of the project

I also added using System.Data.SqlCE to the form and the dataset designer.cs
From this code in the dateset.Designer.cs file after the run is started the eroror occurs.
On PC : Access application + Access DB On PocketPC : Embedded Visual Basic 3.0 application + PocketAccess DB
I synchronise my DBs through ActivSync.
It runs good before Windows Mobile 5.
My customers asked me for new PocketPC with this application, so I bought some new PocketPCs : but as I see, syncronisation with Access is no more supported.
So what are my solutions ?
My customer wait for there PocketPC, so I need a quick solution, I don't want to rewrite all my application now. My application run before WM5, so now I don't want to have to pay for a Visual Studio .Net, some SQL Server, etc ....

Is there a way to control some of the windows application log settings from within the logging process of a package. Specifically the 'source' parameter which comes out as 'SQLISPackage' which i'd like to be the actual name of the package which wrote to the log, and similarly 'Category' which comes out as 'none' and I'd prefer to assign something more meaniful ?

i will be using sql ce 3.5 i think it supports transactions i think it also supports identity.... i am using sql management studio 2005 standalone , so i cannot visually modify the 3.5 sdf.,..,. is there a tool for 2008 that will let me visually modify the table(s)? i dont want to use the 2008 feb community edition...
is there a better way to do this? should i skip the xml and go directly into sql ce insert (for the first record creation) and updates? i think this will be a performance killer on a win mob devilce (5.0)
p.s. i cannot store data in a class, and then commit the class to the transaction because if the application crashes i will loose class data, so xml file will be needed.,

Hi there, I have a question which I put the company that host my website but I didnt get a conclusive answer. Maybe someone here will be able to advise or help me with my situation. I want to build a database that I will run on my local server and the front end of this will be run using a windows application. I have a website which I run the database on the remote server. What I would like to do is to be able to synchronize certain tables between the two databases (such as updating products table, or orders table). I am using sql server 2005 and I am using the sql server management studio to access my database on the remote server. I did notice there is a synchronzie button. I also came across some 3rd party tools. Not sure if that is the way to go. If anyone as done this before or can give me any suggestions, I would be delighted. Thanks Anthony
HelloI use vs2008 and i try to make a simple windows program with add records to a database. The problem is the database don't store the values that i add. When i run my program (in design mode) everythynf looks fine, but if i close vs2008 and restart it again the database is empty. Why? Thank you
