Does The Function SQLGetDiagRec Work Properly For Unicode

Aug 29, 2007

Hi
I am writing a application using the ODBC Calls to connect to MSSQL Database 2005 SP2.
I am using the Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0 for compilation

I have defined the UNICODE macro in the project settings.
Now when i am trying to connect to MSSQL Database using this call below

retcode = SQLConnect(dbc, (SQLTCHAR*) dsn, SQL_NTS,
(SQLTCHAR*) loginname, SQL_NTS,
(SQLTCHAR*) password, SQL_NTS);

I give a wrong username .
Then i use the function
SQLGetDiagRec to collect the error

void extract_error(char *fn,SQLHANDLE handle, SQLSMALLINT type)
{
SQLINTEGER i = 0;
SQLINTEGER native;
SQLTCHAR state[ 100 ] ;
SQLTCHAR text[256];
SQLSMALLINT len;
SQLRETURN ret;
memset(state,0,sizeof(state));
memset(text,0,sizeof(text));
fprintf(stderr,
"
"
"The driver reported the following diagnostics whilst running "
"%s

",
fn);
do
{
ret = SQLGetDiagRec(type,
handle,
++i,
state,
&native,
text,
sizeof(text),
&len );

if (SQL_SUCCEEDED(ret))
_stprintf(_T("%s:%ld:%ld:%s
"), (const TCHAR *)state, i, native, text);
_stprintf(_T("Error code %s
"),(const TCHAR *)state);
}
while( ret == SQL_SUCCESS );
}

Now if i check the values of "state" and "native" i get it as 0.

If i use non unicode (i.e. remove the UNICODE macro) it works fine.

Best Regards
Manoj

SQL Configuration Does Not Work Properly

Jul 17, 2007

Hi,

I've my SSIS Packages, having multiple Configuration stored in SQL Server Table named [SSIS Configurations].

And it's devloped on BHUDEV Server ON Devlopmentdb Database. So durring development Default Cofigurations are set for BHUDEV Server.

Problem is that when I install my Package on SQL Server on different Server for example JOHN, and now my database is ProductionDB and [SSIS Configurations] table will be on ProductionDB database. And I've made required changes in [SSIS Configurations] table. So when I run the Package even then it picks configuration information from BHUDEV.Developmentdb.dbo.[SSIS Configurations] table. That's my problem.

But If when during execution time, I change the connection information then it works fine.

Please Help!

Does SQL 2000 Clustering Work Properly??

Jan 11, 2004

Howdy,

Is SQL 2000 clustering on windows 2000 any good ??

We are looking at spending *quite* a bit of money to implement it, but I need opinions of what its like from the people that actually use it & look after it.

e.g.

DOES IT WORK LIKE IT SHOULD????????
Is it reliable?
Is it resource hungry?
Are there lots of bugs?

All repsonses very welcome. No response too small.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,

Division In A Precedence Constraint Expression Does Not Work Properly - Huh?

Dec 13, 2006

Greetings,

I have an expression in a precedence constraint that is returning false when it should return true. This is the expression that returns false:

((5500 / 9990) * 100) > 10

The following expression returns true. I did the division (5500 / 9990) myself and substituted the resulting value:

((0.55055055055055055055055055055055) * 100) > 10

Why is the first expression returning false? I'm stuck in the mud up to my axles on this and I know I'll probably feel like a fool when I learn the answer...

Thanks,

BCB

Enabling And Disabling Tasks At Run Time Using Expressions Does Not Work Properly

Jul 28, 2007

Hi Friends
"I wonder why the boolean values Set to "Disable Property" using expressions does not work as expected (though Precedence constraints work fine). I find no way to disable individual task. "

I have a boolen variable V, (False) enabled by default at design time for a task T, I disable T based on a condition (if A ! = 'a') during runtime.

Now first time when I run the Package, Task gets disabled (works fine on the condition given). However T gets permanently disabled even after we stop debug mode, which is not the expected behavior. Further on when you run, it wont work at all.

Is it true that a task disabled at design time cannot be enabled during runtime via expressions ?

If things are working fine in your case, pls let me know what settings are required.

Thanks

MovePrev After MoveToBookmark In OLEDB Consumer Templates Doesn't Work Properly

Mar 3, 2008

Hello,
I tried to use bookmarks in OLEDB consumer templates and I have problems with using MoveToBookmark. This method sets cursor position correctly on bookmarked row, but it seems to me it doesn't set the right cursor position in DB. When I call MovePrev after MoveToBookmark, I will not get previous row of the bookmarked row.
Simplified Example - I get bookmark of the first row, then move to the 3th row. Call MoveToBookmark (current row is no the first row). But when I call MovePrev I'will not get DB_S_ENDOFROWSET but the second row:

MoveFirst()
bk = GetBookmark()
MoveNext()
MoveNext() // Now I'm on third row
MoveToBookmark(bk)
GetData() - Now I get data from 1st row
MovePrev()
GetData() - Now I get data from the second row!!

All calls to OLEDB returs S_OK.
Does somebody now, whats wrong?

Thanks

SQLUINTEGER nInfoValue = 0;

VS2005 Error: Connection To SQL Server Files (*.mdf) Requires SQL Server Express 2005 To Function Properly.

Mar 6, 2008

Good Evening All,

I've serached this forum and Google'd for a resolution to this issue, to no avail. Here's the scenario:
I'm running VS 2005 on Windows Media Center laptop and need to create ASP.net membership for my web application built using VB. I have SQL Server Developer installed with instance name MSSQLSERVER. Previously, I uninstalled SQL Express and installed Developer edition and can now open and utilize Management Studio.

Now, when I try to create a new SQL Server database in my solution's App_Data directory, I receive the above error. I already changed instance name in VS2005 per Tools-Options-Database Tools-Data Connections to MSSQLSERVER.

Could someone provide me with a list of procedures to ensure proper setup of VS2005 with SQL Server Developer Edition?

Thanks much for your help.

Problem Saving/retrieving Unicode Characters NVARCHAR With Unicode Collation (java Jdbc)

Aug 8, 2006

I'm connecting to a SQL Server 2005 database using the latest (beta) sql server driver (Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver 1.1 CTP June 2006) from within Java (Rational Application Developer).

The table in SQL Server database has collation Latin1_General_CI_AS and one of the columns is a NVARCHAR with collation Indic_General_90_CI_AS. This should be a Unicode only collation. However when storing for instance the following String:

‚¬_£_ÙÚÜÛùúüû_ÅÆØåæøߣÇçÑñ_¼½¾_ЎўЄєÒ?Ò‘_прÑ?туф_ЂЉЊЋ
... it is saved with ? for all unicode characters as follows (when looking in the database):
‚¬_£_ÙÚÜÛùúüû_ÅÆØåæøߣÇçÑñ_¼½¾_??????_??????_????

The above is not correct, since all unicode characters should still be visible. When inserting the same string directly into the sql server database (without using Java) the result is ok.

Also when trying to retrieve the results again it complains about the following error within Java:

Codepage 0 is not supported by the Java environment.

Hopefully somebody has an answer for this problem. When I alter the collation of the NVARCHAR column to be Latin1_General_CI_AS as well, the data can be stored and retrieved however then of course the unicode specific characters are lost and results into ? So in that case the output is as described above (ie ‚¬_£_ÙÚÜÛùúüû_ÅÆØåæøߣÇçÑñ_¼½¾_??????_??????_????)

We would like to be able to persist and retrieve unicode characters in a SQL Server database using the correct JDBC Driver. We achieved this result already with an Oracle UTF8 database. But we need to be compliant with a SQL Server database as well. Please help.

Thanks in advance for your help.

SQL 2012 :: (SSIS) - Cannot Convert Between Unicode And Non-unicode Data Types

Sep 9, 2015

I have an SSIS package that pulls data from a MYSQL DB (Using RSSBus for Salesforce in SSIS to accomplish this). Most of the columns are loading properly, but I have many columns that I need to convert.

I have been using the Data Conversion dataflow task in SSIS to convert the rows.

I have 2 data conversions that work on most of the columns, but the DESCRIPTION column continues to return an error saying "Cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode types", regardless of what I choose on the Data Conversion task. So, basically I want to dump this column data into a SQL table with NVARCHAR datatypes. Here is what I am doing in my SSIS package...

1) Grab subset of data from SOURCE
2) Converts to TEXTSTREAM. (Data Conversion)
3) Converts to STRING. (Data Conversion)
4) Load Destination table. (OLE DB Destination)

I have also tried to simply convert the values to STRING, but that doesn't work either.

So, I have 2 Data Conversions working here that process most of the data correctly. What I can do to load the DESCRIPTION column?

SSIS: Unicode And Non-unicode String Data Types

May 14, 2008

Hi guys and gals,

I've had some great headaches with SSIS this morning, which I have managed to get a workarounds for, but I'm not happy with them so I've come to ask for advice.

Basically, I am exporting data from an SQL Server database into an Excel spreadsheet and hitting issues with unicode and non-unicode data types.

For example, I have a column that is char(6) and have added a data conversion step to the data flow, which converts it to type DT_WSTR and then everything works!

However, this seems like a completely un-neccessary step as I should be able to do the conversion in T-SQL - but no matter what I try I keep getting the same problem.

SELECT Cast(employee_number As nvarchar(255)) As [employee_number]
FROM employee
WHERE forename = 'george'

ErrorValidation error. details: 1 [1123]: Column "employee_number" cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types.

I know I have a solution (read: workaround) but I really don't want to do this everytime!

Any suggestions for what else to try?

Cannot Convert Between Unicode And Non-unicode String Data Types.

I have an Excel Source component hooked to an OLE DB Destination component in my SSIS 2005 Data Flow Task.  After I mapped the excel columns to the OLE DB table columns i get these errors below.  I noticed that for the first error, the Excel Field format (when you mouse over the column name in the mappings section in OLE DB component) is of type [DTWSTR] and the corresponding SQL field from my SQL table that it's mapping to is of type [DT_STR] when mousing over that field in the mappings in the properties of my OLE DB component.  All table fields in SQL Server for the table I'm inserting into are of type varchar.

Integration Services :: Cannot Convert From Unicode To Non-unicode Error

May 7, 2009

For packages that I have created to read Oracle 10g tables, that work fine with debugging in 32-bit mode, I get an error message on all string fields when I try to run in 64-bit mode.  An example error message is:[OLE DB Source [1]] Error: Column "ACCT_UNIT" cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types.Another interesting warning included is:[OLE DB Source [1]] Warning: The external columns for component "OLE DB Source" (1) are out of synchronization with the data source columns. The external column "ACCT_UNIT" needs to be updated.I cannot even try to convert this data with a Data Conversion item because the (red) error is on the OLE DB Source item and stops there.  It doesn't matter what the destination is or even if there is a destination in the package yet.I'm using Oracle Provider for OLE DB, Oracle Client version 10.203 for 32-bit and Oracle Client 10.204 for 64-bit.Oracle is 10g on a UNIX 64-bit server and the data is not unicode.I'm using SQL Server Enterprise 2008 (10.0.1600) on Windows Server 2008 Standard SP1 on a 64-bit server.The packages work fine in 32-bit mode and the data is not unicode data.  When I change Run64BitRuntime to True in the Debugging Property Page, I get the error on the OLE DB Source item.  I also get the error when I schedule a package to run using the SQL Server Agent.

Can't Get CAST Function To Work In ASP.NET

Mar 16, 2006

I'm trying to do something like this SQL statement. I have a table with a field of date/times.
i.e - 2/27/06 9:55:95 PM  Basically there are multiple entries in the table per day.
I want to count the records for particular (hence the CAST) and output the count.
Here it was I had just to see if SQL would work in ASP.NET :
SELECT     COUNT(*) AS Expr1FROM         dbo.tblActiveDrumsWHERE     [CAST](FLOOR([CAST](NCTimeStamp AS [float])) AS datetime) = '0' OR                      NCTimeStamp - [CAST](FLOOR([CAST](NCTimeStamp AS [float])) AS datetime) = '0'
It didn't like the AS references?
Any help would be appreciated.

Can't Get Left() Function To Work With A Variable.

Jan 14, 2008

I have not been able to find the answer as to why the LEFT() function doesn't see the variable as being a variable.
I originally thought it did not accept a variable as the first parameter, however the definition says it can be a variable.
Anyone knows why this isn't working?
This is how I have the code:

SELECT LEFT(@tpatdata, CHARINDEX('^', Alert1) -1)

the variable @tpatdata is the column name (tablename.Alert1), iif I rewrite it like this:

SELECT LEFT(tablename.Alert1, CHARINDEX('^', Alert1) -1) it works.

Help: About Charindex Function Doesn't Work With Variable

May 23, 2007

Hello to all,
I hope that somebody can help me.
I have written a sql query to search Partner.  I have a wtcomValidRelationships Table. There are two Fields (IDMember(type: Int) and RelationshipIDs(type: varchar(1000)) in this table.
Example: 3418 has 3422 RelationshipID and 3422 has 4088 RelationshipID, if i want to check if there is a relationship between 3418 and 4088.
declare @IDM int;
declare @IDO char(100);
set @IDM = 3418;
set @IDO = '4088';
select B.IDMember
from wtcomValidRelationships as A, wtcomValidRelationships as B
where A.IDMember = @IDM and charindex(cast(B.IDMember as char(100)),A.RelationshipIDS) > 0
and charindex(@IDO,B.RelationshipIDs) > 0
Using this query i get nothing.
I try to use constant in charindex and i get result.
declare @IDM int;
declare @IDO char(100);
set @IDM = 3418;
set @IDO = '4088';
select B.IDMember
from wtcomValidRelationships as A, wtcomValidRelationships as B
where A.IDMember = @IDM and charindex('3422',A.RelationshipIDS) > 0
and charindex('4088',B.RelationshipIDs) > 0
So i think that charindex doesn't work with variable. But I must use variable. Can someone help me? What should i do ?
Thanks
Best Regards
Pinsha

Power Pivot :: How Does EVALUATE Function Work

Oct 24, 2015

playing with the Power pivot , DAX. While analyzing the DAX ,I came across a function EVALUATE , but when I tried this function in excel Power Pivot workbook - =EVALUATE 'Date' where 'Date' is my one of the Power pivot table , I was writing this function within the Calculation area of the Power Pivot model.  I get the below error when I hit enter after writing the function ."The expression is not valid or appears to be incomplete..An MDX expression was expected while a full statement was specified."But in many forums I find the syntax is correct.

REPLACE Function Doesn't Work With Null-bytes

Feb 7, 2006

Dear Community,We have a problem with null-Bytes in varchar-Columns, which are nothandled correctly in our application. Therefor we try to filter themout using the Transact-SQL REPLACE function.The Problem was, that the REPLACE-function didn't behave the way weexpected.Following Example demonstrates the behavior:declare @txt varchar(512)declare @i intset @txt = 'hello ' + char(0) + 'world'print @txtset @i = 1while @i <= len(@txt)beginprint str(@i) + substring(@txt, @i, 1)set @i = @i + 1endprint 'Length: ' + str(len(@txt))print 'trying to replace null-byte:'print replace(@txt, char(0), '*')print 'replace Letter h'print replace(@txt, 'h', char(39))-- end exampleOutput:hello1h2e3l4l5o678w9o10r11l12dLength: 12trying to replace null-byte:*replace Letter h'elloThe Null-Byte replace destroys the whole string. This behavior occursonly on some of ourdatabases. The others work correctly.Is it possible that it depends on some server setting?ThanksEnno

Non-Unicode To Unicode Data Conversion

Jul 23, 2005

Hi all, we are now planning to upgrade our application from anon-unicode version to a unicode version. The application's backend isa SQL Server 2000 SP3.The concern is, existing business data are stored using collation"Chinese_PRC_CI_AS", i.e. Simplified Chinese. So I thought we need toextract these data out to the new SQL Server which is using Unicode (Iassume it means converting them to nchar, nvarchar type of fields for Idon't enough information from the application side, or is there ageneral unicode collation that will make even char and varchar types tostore data as Unicode?).The problem is what's the best and most efficient way to do this dataconversion?bcp? DTS? or others?thanks a lot
