Error: A Rowset Based On The SQL Command Was Not Returned By The OLE DB Provider.
May 14, 2007
I have a dataflow task. On which I have OLEDB as my source. I connect to my database and execute a stored proc. the stored proc results in a result set with only one row and two columns. First Column is an integer and the second row is a varchar(max) with xml script in it. Not that it should matter because it is in varchar(max).
Anyway, it give me an error
[OLE DB Source [321]] Error: A rowset based on the SQL command was not returned by the OLE DB provider.
What am I doing wrong?
Can I not have a stroed proc that returns a result set as my data source?
I am using a proc that runs fine in SSMS Query editor and also produces rows when I click the Preview button in the OLEDB Source Adapter. It has two input parameters. The proc contains some CTE's and UNION ALL's. It does not contain any dynamic sql. However, when I run the package I get this error:
[OLE DB Source [1]] Error: A rowset based on the SQL command was not returned by the OLE DB provider.
How can that be when the Preview shows rows being returned?
I am using windows 2003 server and i have installed SSAS 2005 and configured http request for AS 2005 with this below url : http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2005/httpasws.mspx. I had tried all the possiblities given in this url. But i am getting like "Test connection failed because of error initializing provider. The HTTP Server returned the following error : Not found" when i create udl file. Moreover i have installed MSOLAP 3.0 and OLAP 9.0 provider and MSXML 6.0 Parser.
Window Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition (x64) SP1 Sql Server 2000 8.00.2039 SP4 Enterprise Edition (32 bit version)
A linked server is configured to a sql 2000 server and when I execute sql statement SELECT * FROM [LinkedServer].[Database].[dbo].[TableName] it gives following error message: -
Server: Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB' reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error. OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'SQLOLEDB' IUnknown::QueryInterface returned 0x80004005: The provider did not give any information about the error.].
In case if anyone has a solution to it, please let me know.
I'm working on an OLE DB provider. This provider is supposed to retrieve data from managed application running in background. The data retrieval is handled by C# component communicating with source application via remoting, the data are then exposed via component's COM interface. OLE DB provider itself instantiates the communication component.
Now, the problem: this worked ok in SQL server 2000, but it doesn't seem to work in SQL server express edition. Concretely, the communication component fails to get created (CoCreateInstance ends with 'class not registered') and SQL server logs this:
2007-08-24 14:48:49.42 spid51 Error: 6511, Severity: 16, State: 20. 2007-08-24 14:48:49.42 spid51 Failed to initialize the Common Language Runtime (CLR) v2.0.50727 with HRESULT 0x80131022. You may fix the problem and try again later.
I've googled a bit and found out someone else getting this message, and he was told something like 'trying to load CLR in some cases is disabled in newer (>2000) versions of SQL server'.
Now, I have very little knowledge of SQL server, CLR integration etc., so I'm not sure whether this applies to my case as well, but I think so - that problematic COM object is C#-based.
I'd be glad for any hints, ideas how to solve this issue, I just need the OLE DB provider to be able to access that managed application.
Basically the error that I am getting is in our test automation when running as non-admin on the box (regular user). We use .Net C# SQLConnection class to connect to SQL express 2005 impersonating with admin credentials. After getting the connection we try to execute a select command and it some time fails with following error: A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The handle is invalid.) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ReadSniError(TdsParserStateObject stateObj, UInt32 error) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ReadSni(DbAsyncResult asyncResult, TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ReadPacket(Int32 bytesExpected) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ReadBuffer() at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ReadByte() at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataReader.ConsumeMetaData() at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataReader.get_MetaData() at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.FinishExecuteReader(SqlDataReader ds, RunBehavior runBehavior, String resetOptionsString) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReaderTds(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, Boolean async) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReader(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, String method, DbAsyncResult result) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReader(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, String method) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior behavior, String method) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteReader()
This happen only in the non-admin scenario mentioned above. Any idea what is triggering this?
Hi,I have a stored procedure that makes an MDX query for me, on SQL 2000, service pack 3 it works fine, but on service pack 4 it stops working with the error:Server: Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1OLE DB provider 'MSOLAP.2' reported an error. I have 2 SQL servers. And in the first one I have added the second SQL as a Link Server. When I run an SQL statement on the linked server I get the following message. Execute sp_addlinkedserver to add the server to sysservers.[OLE/DB provider returned message: Deferred prepare could not be completed.] The SQL statement that I am runnins is Select * from openquery(PROD,'Select * from PROD.GMS.dbo.qryDispCL') But when I run only the SQL statement "Select * from PROD.GMS.dbo.qryDispCL" it works perfect. But I need to have the first statement running. Please help. Your valuable feedback is greatly appriciated.
I'm running sql server ver 7.0 SP4.I have an access project (.adp) that runs a view which is nothing morethan a select statement. Access locks up solid when I try to run thisquery - with NO error messages what-so-ever.If I sign onto the server, and run the view from enterprise manager - Iget:"the data provider or other service returned an E_FAIL status" !?!?!There is NO ERROR number, or further explanation of the message!!Now - this query DID work last week - all of a sudden I get this error- I've:1) repaired / compacted this database2) rebooted the server3) spent several hours searching websites & groups for an explanationa) I don't care how useless some people think enterprise manager is -at least it gave me SOME kind of error; where access just locks up!b) There are no issues with null values, or problem date fieldsanywhere in these tables.4) tried MANY variations on the query, and am now more confused thanever.5) I've RUN THIS QUERY IN AN ACCESS MDB WITH LINKS TO THE SQL SERVER -AND IT WORKS!?!?!?!?The query I'm using follows; if I remove ONE field from the selectstatement - this query RUNS!!!It doesn't matter what field I remove! It's as if, I can only have somany fields in the select statement!?!?!?This is clearly ridiculous since the query ran fine last week with thesame number of fields, not thatthat should have anything to do with this, as sql shouldn't care howmany fields I request.I'm not actually requesting any fields in the last table - but if Iremove this table it works!? If I leave this table, and select fieldsfrom it, but remove another table - again it works!So my questions:1) What [T-] is going on here?2) Why would an mdb be able to run a query that an adp can not!?!?3) When will microsoft ever release a product that provides usefulerror messages?I really don't expect an answer to #3, because I know the answer isNEVER - microsoft doesn't want to make solving problems easy.Here's the query I'm using:SELECT codes.proj_id, answers.report_date,answers.release_date, answers.notes,answers.answer_date, answers.answer_person,answers.answer, answers.answer_status,answers.answer_person2, codes.cust_idFROM dbo.codes LEFT OUTER JOINdbo.demos ONdbo.codes.code = dbo.demos.code LEFT OUTER JOINdbo.answers ON dbo.codes.code = dbo.answers.codeany help appreciated - TIABob

after converting database from sql server 2000 to sql server 2005. my program on vb6 is facing runtime error. i.e.data provider or other service returned an E_Fail status .
I am running an Access adp application with SQL Server 2005 as back end database. I run a query by using Management Studio query window, and it returned correct results with some columns containing NULL value. But when I run this query through MS Access client side, popup an error "Data provider or other service returned an E_FAIL status" and crash the Access application. I moved the database back to SQL Server 2000, and it runs perfect on both client side and server side returning the correct result. This query is important for the application. Please help!!!!

I am getting the following error when I execute my sql task:
An error occurred while assigning a value to variable "NullVar": " NO result rowset is associated with the execution of this query. "
I am executing a SP that has one input & one output parameter. The output parameter is returning a single row for debugging if the sp failes. I tried using Jamie's method:(http://blogs.conchango.com/jamiethomson/archive/2005/12/09/2480.aspx) to get it to work but keep getting the above error. I have the following variables:
In the execute sql task, I set the ResultSet to single row. I set SQLSourceType = variable & sourcevariable = user::SqlSource. In the result tab, I added a result set, NewResultName with the variable user::NullVar. I tried different configurations with the parameter mappings but nothing seemed to work. I didn't know if i still had to use this if I am using the sqlSource variable to drive the task.
So I am not sure what I am missing here. Anyone have any suggestions?
We experience the 40 error when our Asp.net code runs under IIS and uses named pipes to a sql server 2005 named instance.
We've tried all suggestions found on blogs and KB articles such as making sure the named pipes protocol is enabled, making sure the Browser service is started, making sure Allow Remote Connections is enabled, making sure we're not using Asp.Net 2.0 membership providers, and the list goes on and on.
We boiled it down to a simple test scenario. We open a SqlConnection to the sql 2005 box in the code with the intention of binding a datareader to a gridview, but it never gets that far because the connection.Open() fails.
If we run this test application as a virtual directory in IIS and Asp.Net 2.0, the connection.Open() fails.
If we run this test application from Visual Studio .Net using Cassini (PWS), the connection.Open() succeeds and binds to the gridview.
What could be causing the connection to fail under IIS but succeed under Cassini? We've tried setting IIS to run as a domain user and with digest authentication enabled. That made no difference.
I have a strange problem with one of my Linked server connections. I am connecting from SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition (9.00.3042.00) to and Oracle 10g database using the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle. The connection works and I am able to select from all the Oracle tables except for 1 table. When selecting from this table I get the following error:
OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "DBNAME" returned message "ORA-01476: divisor is equal to zero".
Msg 7330, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Cannot fetch a row from OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "DBNAME".
This probem happens if the table has rows or has no rows (empty table).
I have tried SELECT * and count(*) along with selecting a specific column from the table.
I can use SQL*plus from the system that the SQL database server running on it and select from the table using the same login/password that the linked server uses to rule out a permissions problem.

this error is cropping up.
To Resolve this issue, we checked the Surface Area Configuration and also checked the Reporting Service Configuration . There seem to be no problem and everything looks ok.

I am new to dotnet. I tried connecting to the database MS SQL Server 2000. I gave the code like, the one below, in form load event,
SqlDataReader dr = null;
SqlConnection myConnection = new SqlConnection("Data Source=IP;Initial Catalog=name;User Id=uid;Password=pwd;");
myConnection.Open();
myConnection.Close();
But I could not connect. The error message highlights the line myConnection.Open() and displays the error

It tries connecting to SQL Server 2005. There is no SQL Server 2005 in that system. There is only SQL Server 2000.
I have the aspx code in my local system and the database in another machine.
Could Someone please help me out in solving this problem.
I realised this has been done to death, and so much information out there but I am still in a quandry.
I have had to rebuild my computer.
This is what I did
XP machine using SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition using Windows Authentication NZ6(MSSQLSERVER)
straight default install all the way
unfortunately when ready to run reports from my instance(computer) I received the error as in provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server
thought I had it all okayed but obviously something not right
so ended up unistalling then - did the following:
Load SQL Server from disc1 and start install failed on alter Counter Registry key error fixed this from KB article (known error that can happen) restarted Went to Windows Update check IIS is installed - tick is on - IIS - admin tools - make sure asp2 is associated - yes ok Then back to install sql server - there is no instance set up yet Disk 2 and setup .exe
All ok on Reporting Services, Analysis etc.
But once again all seems fine but still getting the error:
connection is all fine in Management Studio - eg I can see tables etc connection is all fine in Business Intelligence - eg I can preview my reports I then can deploy up to - NZ6 open NZ6 eports report is there fine - but just errors
some simple little tick that I have not done!!
I seem to have checked and rechecked everything and obviously doing another re-install does not seem a logical step from here. I will continue to check but if someone jump in and advise please would be great.
I am creating a web site using Visual Studio 2008 & trying to connect to database on SQL Server 2000. My test connection is successful but while debugging the page I am getting this error : " provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server "
Solutions recommended for this were start running the SQL browser instance and enable Namespipes in Sqlserver configuration manager.Did both.. but nothing worked.
I made a Web page, and it works perfect on my local machine, everything is OK, until I uloaded page to the server, it reports this error:
