Bummer. I can't remember the SA password. I had setup a user account, but I can't change anything or add any new accounts using this login. I can't get in using the windows authentication method no matter how I am logged into this machine.
Any suggestions? I have never been able to use Windows Authentication. There must be something I'm missing here. I have spent hours and hours trying to get into this machine. I just want to replicate a database. This is very frustrating.
Hi, I have a least privileged SQL Login €œClient€? and have granted execute rights on XP_Cmdshell SP at master db. When I execute master.. XP_Cmdshell €˜dir€™ I€™m getting the below error.
Msg 15153, Level 16, State 1, Procedure xp_cmdshell, Line 1 The xp_cmdshell proxy account information cannot be retrieved or is invalid. Verify that the '##xp_cmdshell_proxy_account##' credential exists and contains valid information.
Please note it is SQL Login account and not windows account. I have checked everywhere for similar problem and no luck.
I am hosting my website with a web hosting company on the web. My web application readsdata from a SQL server 2005 database. So far I have been able to establish a connection to the database, but when I attempt to query data from a table, I a get an error message.I can't figure out what I am doing wrong here.basically I just want to read data from acolumn in the database and to store it into a multi-line textbox control. Iam using 'Execute SQl task' which calls a stored procedure located in sql server database. The task's SQL source type is variable and the variable has the follwoing expression "EXEC PROC_SEL_MBO_REPORT "+@[User::V_SP_Job_Date]after evaluation it is like EXEC PROC_SEL_MBO_REPORT '01/NOV/2007'.It is working fine
Now the procedure is changed to Oracle. So I have changed it to "BEGIN PROC_SEL_MBO_REPORT " + "("+ @[User::V_SP_Job_Date]+")"+"; END"+";" after evaluation it is like BEGIN PROC_SEL_MBO_REPORT ('01/NOV/2007') END;.It is sucessfully executing from the task but no data is loaded into the tables which are used by the procedure internally. Executing 'execute BEGIN PROC_SEL_MBO_REPORT ('01/NOV/2007') END;' is perfectly alright from SQl developer or sql plus.
I am trying to get a decimal value from this simple user defined function, but it is not working. CREATE FUNCTION dbo.GETANSWERRETURNS decimal(6,2)ASBEGIN DECLARE @Result decimal(6,2) SELECT @Result = 10 / 4 RETURN @Result ENDThe real answer is 2.5, but I keep getting 2. Also, if I replace 10 / 4 with 3 / 4, I get the answer 0. I tried several things like changing decimal to numeric and still get the same results.
I have a script from ASP.NET application services. It can be crated using the aspnet_regsql.exe utility in the 2.0 framework. The beginning of the script contains the following:
SET @dboptions = N'/**/' SET @dbname = N'databasename'
IF (NOT EXISTS (SELECT name FROM master.dbo.sysdatabases WHERE name = @dbname)) BEGIN PRINT 'Creating the ' + @dbname + ' database...' DECLARE @cmd nvarchar(500) SET @cmd = 'CREATE DATABASE [' + @dbname + '] ' + @dboptions EXEC(@cmd) END GO
USE [databasename] GO I have a database in the App_Data folder in an ASP.NET website project. It shows up in the Server Explorer. But when I run this script on that database, the output seems fine (No rows affected. (0 row(s) returned) etc) but no tables are actually created in the database I ran it on. The database connection string in the Server Explorer has AttachDbFilename and User Instance=True.
So what exactly happens when SQL Server Express executes the CREATE DATABASE and USE [databasename] in this context? Is it ignored, is there now a new database somewhere on my machine, because the script seems to run fine on SOME database, just not the one expected.
Say i create a login login1 and create a user user1 map to the login1 Then i grant the login a server-level permission.
if i want to perform the operation that need the server-level permission, i should execute as login1. for example i can change the context by execute as login='login1'
but if i change context by execute as user='user1' , then perform the operation , a permission deny error would occur. why?
The user1 was mapped to login1, why failed? what is the permission check mechanicalism of sql server?
I am trying to debug stored procedure using visual studio. I right click on connection and checked 'Allow SQL/CLR debugging' .. the store procedure is not local and is on sql server.
Whenever I tried to right click stored procedure and select step into store procedure> i get following error
"User 'Unknown user' could not execute stored procedure 'master.dbo.sp_enable_sql_debug' on SQL server XXXXX. Click Help for more information"
I am not sure what needs to be done on sql server side
We tried to search for sp_enable_sql_debug but I could not find this stored procedure under master.
Some web page I came accross says that "I must have an administratorial rights to debug" but I am not sure what does that mean?
I am not sure why this is not working it clearly states in the MSDN that it should "
'role' Is the name of the SQL Server role being checked. role is sysname and can include the database fixed roles or user-defined roles but not server roles.
"
I have seen many questions revolving around this issue on this site and on the net about this but know one can answer it
I have created a new user defined database role called testrole with any owner
then created a new sql login and user (Sql Authentication)
add the user to the database role testrole
check IS_MEMBER and it returns 0
try this with a fixed database role and I get the desired result of 1
this is simple and should not be such a problem for every one
Hi, I want to execute BCP in Query Analyser in SQL Server 2005 Express for that i surf on net and find that i should execute BCP under xp_cmdShell, That works good for addministritative account on SQL. But i want the working will be done by a non administrative account or non 'sa' user. How can i assign a non sa User permissions to execute xp_cmdShell? or just tell me any other alternative way to run BCP in Query Analyser or code behined. thanx
I have granted execute on the dbo schema to a sql user so that he can execute available procedures in the dbo schema. However when he executes a procedure ie..
exec dbo.myproc
The following error is returned:
Msg 229, Level 14, State 5, Line 2
SELECT permission denied on object 'MyType', database 'Mine', schema 'dbo'.
MyType is a table
How can I correct this behavior?
I don't want the user to be able to access the tables except via the procedure calls.
SELECT DATEDIFF(n , LAG(CAST(Date AS DATETIME) + CAST(Time AS DATETIME), 1) OVER ( ORDER BY Date, Time ), Â Â Â Â Â Â CAST(Date AS DATETIME) + CAST(Time AS DATETIME)) Â Â Â FROM [DataGapTest]
Gives the right output:
NULL 1 1 3548 0
However, when I put the statement in a function, I get only zeros as the output. It's as if the lag and current value are always the same (but they are not of course).
CREATE FUNCTION dbo.GetTimeInterval(@DATE date, @TIME time) RETURNS INT AS  BEGIN  DECLARE @timeInterval INT   SELECT @timeInterval = DATEDIFF(n , LAG(CAST(@Date AS DATETIME) + CAST(@Time AS DATETIME), 1) OVER ( ORDER BY Date, Time ),       CAST(@Date AS DATETIME) + CAST(@Time AS DATETIME))    FROM dbo.[DataGapTest]   RETURN @timeInterval  END
I need some clarification regarding the security inside of the master db.
I have a user stored procedure in master. I would like to be able to execute that stored procedure from an internal web app. Would I give execute permission on the stored procedure to the "public" or "guest" role? The web app would be using a userid/pw for an application database.
Also, is it a good idea to have user stored procedures inside of master? Could someone point me to where I can find a good article on master db best practices?
How to define a Input variable in a Execute Sql Task?? I've defined a User::Inicio variable which contains 4 as value.
In Parameter Mappins it has been defined. Then, I've gone to General->Sql Statement and allocated the following SQL Statement: UPDATE CARGAPROCESOS SET FECHAULTIMACARGA = [Inicio] or UPDATE CARGAPROCESOS SET FECHAULTIMACARGA = [User::Inicio]
Anyway, I'm stuck, both did not work Thanks in advance for your comments
Hello. I am using SQL Server Management Studio (SQL 2005) and created a daily backup job. Inside the job, i have an "Operating system" step to copy backuped up files onto another directory. However, the job kept on failing with an error "Executed as user ... Access is denied." With this error, how can i change the user used to execute the job? Thanks.
Fairly new to SSIS.I have created a package in BIDS, and am trying to execute it so i can test/debug the flow and view the data in the data viewers. I continually get a logon failed for user... its the user id i am using to connect to my SourceConnection OLEDB. I have been struggling with this for a while now, and getting frustrated. I tried Windows Authentication also, still i get an error message logon failed for user......
I have tried all of the security settings, from Do not save sensitive to Encrypt all with password, entered the password, and then try to Execute Package from the solution explorer and still get error message. Thanks for your help!
Here is the error message
An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80040E4D Description: "Login failed for user 'UserName'.".
I notice when I copy an SSIS package 'A' to a new package 'B', the new package 'B' will generate a "login failed for user" message in the data flow components. To copy I "save copy of Package 'A' as."
Some config info:
Package ProtectionLevel = EncryptSensitiveWithPassword Connections are Data Sources Connection strings with password are stored using PackageConfigurations to an SQLServer table. I've verified Package 'A' is in fact using the config table (e.g. it is not using a password or user stored in the package) Data connectios are all SQLServer Native OLE DB Client The account is an SQLServer account (not integrated security)
The original Package 'A' works flawlessly and I get success when I test the connections in Package 'B'.
But executing package 'B' I get: The error message I get is: [Connection manager "MyConnection"] Error: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E4D. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80040E4D Description: "Login failed for user 'dwuser'.".
Does anyone know why this would occur and/or how to work around it? I saw another thread where a potential workaround is to create a new data flow task and copy all the data flow components to that task. That won't work well for us because the data flow is moderately complex and when you copy and paste it, SSIS completely re-orders the layout.
This is a typical data warehouse ETL setup where there is a master package that executes child packages (e.g. 'A', and 'B' mentioned above) that each perform the ETL for a specific dimension or fact table.
We are using a third party tool that does not store passwords in an encrypted format therefore we created a user with minimal rights. Isn't there a way to grant "execute any stored procedure" to a user/Login? Do we really have to grant execute on each procedure to the user? And then do the same for each new store procedure? The only other option we have found to be able to "see" and execute the stored procedures is by granting "db_owner". I would think that would negate the user being minimal rights.
I have a SSRS report with 6 columns each column containing count of total# of applicants meeting certain criteria. User want to click on each column and see the basic information and also want to get the ability to export the data into excel.
I know that I can create 6 drillthrough reports with basic information of applicants and link it to the count from each column respectively but I was wondering if it is possible to write a Stored procedure with all 6 select queries and execute only 1 select query based on the column that user clicks on main report ?
BEGIN TRANSACTION @Tran1 €¦€¦€¦€¦€¦. €¦€¦€¦€¦€¦€¦ €¦€¦€¦€¦.
INSERT INTO [tabloA] (, ,) SELECT ,, FROM [tmptabloA] WHERE ......
€¦€¦€¦ €¦€¦€¦ €¦€¦€¦.
DELETE FROM [tmptabloA]
COMMIT TRANSACTION @Tran1
When user [nuran] execute the procedure sp_yordam by a VB program, the procedure use [dbo].tmptabloA not [nuran].[tmptaboA]. If there are data in the [dbo].tmptabloA, the procedure insert data to [dbo].tabloA from [dbo].tmptabloA. But when I checked user name in the procedure during execution, the user was [nuran].
If I write the procedure like that:
(2) create PROCEDURE [dbo].[SP_tmpSil] AS
declare @tablo1 as varchar(50), DECLARE @sil as nvarchar(max) select @tablo1='[tmptabloA]'
And it executed by user [nuran],then it used the correct table [nuran].tmptabloA
Is there any way to use user€™s table in an stored procedure without using the user name : (3) create PROCEDURE [dbo].[SP_yordam] AS BEGIN
BEGIN TRANSACTION @Tran1 €¦€¦€¦€¦€¦. €¦€¦€¦€¦€¦€¦ €¦€¦€¦€¦.
INSERT INTO [tabloA] (, ,) SELECT ,, FROM [nuran].[tmptabloA] WHERE ......
€¦€¦€¦ €¦€¦€¦ €¦€¦€¦.
DELETE FROM [nuran].[tmptabloA]
COMMIT TRANSACTION @Tran1
I don't want to use (2) and (3) code methods, I prefer to use (1) script. Is there any compilation method, or any aditional way for using script (1) with correct user rights?
I am trying to execute a UDF in an Execute SQL Task within a Foreach loop.
I have an Execute SQL task to get the dataset (Firstname, Lastname, CompanyID) which is going into a full result set called @PendingPar. The Foreach Loop is set to a Foreach ADO Enumerator against @PendingPar and I have created 3 variables at the Foreach Loop scope level called @Firstname (String), @Lastname (String) and @CompanyID (Int32). These are mapped in the Foreach Loop as index 0,1 and 2.
Within the Foreach Loop I have an Execute SQL Task with the sql command
select dbo.udf_GetParTitle (?,?,?)
In the parameter mapping I have Variable Name = User::Firstname Direction = Input Data Type = VARCHAR and Parameter Name = 0, User::Lastname, Input, VARCHAR, 1 and User::CompanyID, Input, VARCHAR,2
Finally the UDF returns a @NewPar value so i have the result set in the execute sql task to Single Row which goes into variable @NewPar. This @newPar will be used later but I cannot get the first bit to work yet.
the error message i get back is
Error: 0xC002F210 at Execute SQL Task 1, Execute SQL Task: Executing the query "select dbo.udf_GetParTitle (?,?,?)
" failed with the following error: "Syntax error, permission violation, or other nonspecific error". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
Task failed: Execute SQL Task 1
the initial execute sql task where the dataset is selected works fine but it is within the foreach loop that it fails.
Suppose you have a simple DML "execute as..." trigger that looks like this:
CREATE TRIGGER dbo.myTrigger  ON dbo.myTable  WITH Execute As Owner  AFTER INSERT AS
[code]...
which runs as "owner" so that the user inserting into "myTable" won't have the privs to edit the audit table. How does one capture the identity of the user whose insert statement caused the trigger to fire? I've tried "current_user" and "system_user" without success when "execute as ..." is used: they each return a value not related to the identity of the user running the original insert.without an "execute as" clause, what prevents a user from adding to or editing the audit table directly?
To use Reporting Services as a rendering engine I want to configure a local user on the server that has only the minimum set of permissions and user rights. The server is W2K3 SP2 and SQL 9.0.3200.
In particular, this local user has been removed from the local "Users" group and so is the "Authenticated Users" built-in group. In Reporting Services, it is mapped to a role that only has the "Execute Report Definitions" task permission.
Then, following the details in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/812614/ (Default permissions and user rights for IIS 6.0) I added all file security and local user rights required for "Users" and also granted and propagated "Read&Execute" on the "Reporting Services" folder and verified this using "Effective Permissions" on the ReportService2005.asmx file.
However, I still get 401 Unauthorized, also after a complete restart of all related machines and services.
Once I add the user or "Authenticated Users" back to "Users" everything works fine.
What permissions might I be missing? Where could I find those permission requirements documented?
I tried analyzing the 401 using auditing file and object access security but to no avail. There are no Failure audit entries in the Security log.
How can I investigate the minimum permission set?
What is the risk of leaving the user in the "Users" local group?
I have a requirement to allow a user to restore a database and then create database users and add them to the db_owner database role. The user must not have sysadmin rights on the server.
The database restore works ok by placing the user in the dbcreator role.
There is a stored procedure to create the database user and alter role membership, I want the user to execute the sp as a different, higher privilege account so as not to give the user underlying permission to create users in the database.
USE [master] GO
/****** Object: StoredProcedure [dbo].[sp_create_db_users] Script Date: 22/07/2014 13:54:46 ******/ SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO
[Code] ....
The user has execute permission on the stored procedure but keeps getting the error:
Msg 916, Level 14, State 1, Line 2
The server principal "Mydomainadmin1" is not able to access the database "Mydatabase" under the current security context.
Mydomainadmin1 has dbowner to Mydatabase and sysadmin rights for server. If the 'execute as' is changed to 'caller' and run by mydomainadmin1 it works so the issue is between the execute sp and the actual running of the procedure.
Just wondering if anyone knows of a useful command to assign execute permissions to a batch of stored procs to a user/role. I've got too many stored procs to manually go thru the steps of browsing for them and scrolling thru each one and clicking "execute" for each one.
Also, would like to know if its possible to update a batch of stored procs that begin with a prefix like "spSomething_".
where I can look for the user, who execute this statment?
It was 6.02.2007 or 7.02.2007. All users connect using SQL Serwer Authentication. It is test database and from 1 to 3 users connect to it, and submit not more then 10 SQl statmant per day.
Basically I want to set chain up the rights so that the anonymous web user IUSR_ .. can execute the new .NET subs, functions etc in the assembly, just as the anonymous web user can execute Stored Procedures when granted. In this way, it should be possible to call the .NET assembly just as classic stored procedures from ASP/ASP.NET.
I have written a .NET function which I can successfully execute if I log on to the database as an administrator by sending this T-SQL query; it returns the result of a given string:
select dbo.CLRHTMLString('abc')
The scenario is now to try to grant access to this assembly for a different role (webuser), which the classic IUSR_MYSERVERNAME is a login of, so that I can call the .NET Assembly when I am authenticated as the anonymous web user (e.g. via ASP, etc.).
To test access, I created a login (webusertest) for a user (webusertest) in the same role (webuser) on the database. But when I use this login, which supposedly has the same rights as the IUSR_, execution right is denied:
EXECUTE permission denied on object 'CLRHTMLString', database 'adt_db', schema 'dbo'.
Note: The 'webuser' database role has Execute permission on the Assembly.
I have also tested this from my actual web page, with the following results: (1) IUSR_MYSERVER member of db_owner role: Web page has right to call assembly. (2) IUSR_MYSERVER not member of db_owner role: Web page does not have right to call assembly.
Further test results: (3) Function can be called when making the user "webusertest" member of the "db_owner" role, which is too much rights to grant for the anonymous web user.
(4) When adding the user 'webusertest' to get 'Execute' permissions on the assembly, it does not get added. After clicking OK, there is no warning message, but when opening the Assembly Properties -> Permission dialog box the same time, the 'webusertest' user does not appear in the list.
Hello All,I tried to set the access permissions for debugging stored procedure by reading the articlehttp://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/w1bhybwz(VS.80).aspxandhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms164014.aspxI have tried to add the role to sysaminas follows1)SELECT * FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.ROUTINES WHERE ROUTINE_NAME = 'sp_sdidebug'(to find the sp)Error:--The stored procedure not found2)sp_addsrvrolemember 'Developmentswati.jain', 'sysadmin' though this is executed successfuly . Error is still persisting Cannot debug stored procedures because the SQL Server database is not setup correctly or user does not have permission to execute master.sp_sdidebug.
hi in my package, some sql operations need the special user name and admin privilage. so how do i create my ssis package so that when it executes it takes the given username and password from the table in some database.
