That is, session 1 can start at 10:00 and finish at 10:30, while session 2 started at 10:05 and finished at 10:45, and session 3 started at 10:06 and finished at 10:20. Excluding Weekends When Finding The (dd/hh/mm/ss) Between Two Dates
Mar 27, 2008I have two datetime fields that I would like to find out how much time has passed between them. First field is "start date" and the second is "end date" the dates in both fields are in this format (03/27/2008 4:00PM). The problem I am having is I need to exclude the time passed from Friday, 6:00PM to Monday, 7:00AM if the dates happen to go over a weekend.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Help With Dates-finding Number Of Days Per Month
Mar 28, 2000I am trying to determine the amount of days in a month to prorate a month end estimate.
We measure service calls and need to approximate how many we will have at month end.
I would like to automate a query to post on our web and need to know how many days are in the current month.
A possible solution would be to piece together a datetime variable using getdate and dateadd then use a datepart.
However , I don't know how to create a datetime variable this way.

Finding Non Valid Dates With A Char Field
Aug 9, 2007I have a table with several million rows of data. There is a date field defined as a char(8) with some bad rows. i tried to locate them with below
select date_stopped from patient_medication
where isdate(convert(datetime,date_stopped)) = 1
This won't work, I get the
Server: Msg 242, Level 16, State 3, Line 1
The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value
Any way around this?
Finding Differences Between Dates In A Single Colu
Feb 28, 2008I have a log table that displays the history of the status of an entity and the date the status changed.
member_id | modification_date | status
I wish to find the differences between datetime values in different rows of the modification_date column. I would need the amount of time between whatever the next sequential time was for the member. I would also need to know the status change in that time. I don't know how to do this with just one date column.
Any assistance is appreciated.

SQL TimeSpan And Inserts
May 27, 2008I need to Add a Check in the database to ensure that user can only enter up to 20 entries to Database in a period of 10 minutes. Basically, to guard against people using scripts to add data to the database ( instead of using CAPTCHAE on the front end) what we want to do is restrict user to entering at most 20 transactions in 10 Minutes.How do I handle or do this in SQl Server 2005??
What I figure to do is right after I do an INSERT into the table, I Select the last 20 entries into that same table and then Calculate the Total time it took to add those 20 transactions and set the righ flag.
1) How do I select last 20 entries into a table??
2) How do I calculate the total time that elapsed between adding the first of those 20 records and the last??

Fields!endTime.Value-Fields!startTime.Value
and I need to display as hh:mms. I have been trying to use Format and FormatDateTime but have had no luck yet. Unfortunately, all the examples I have been able to find relate to formatting an actual DateTime, not a timespan. Any help would be much appreciated!
Need To Count Rows Within A Timespan
Dec 29, 2006I'm new to MS SQL having used MySQL for several years now. I just can't figure out the syntax on counting or selecting rows
a) in the Last X (days, weeks, months...)
or
b) between "date X" and "date Y"
I've tried this to get the last week:
SELECT COUNT(*)
FROM contacts
WHERE CONVERT(datetime,timestamp) < (GETDATE() - DATEADD(DAY,7,GETDATE()))
...but I always get a total that includes rows outside the span.
Any suggestions? Thanks!
Overlaping Timespan NET Calculations
Apr 18, 2008I have a table that stores start and end datetime fields per room, per employee.
I may have 4 employees in a room at the same time but they did not all come in the room at the same time and may not leave at the same time either.
I need to calculate the NET number of minutes/hours spent in the room. There may be holes in the timespans when the room is unoccupied. The range could cover more than one day.
Ex:

The net usage time of room 1 is 5 hours.
The gross total is 8 hours.
Is there a way to calculate this NET total in MSSQL T-SQL or maybe by using a SPROC?
I need this to to bind as a datasource to a Crystal Report document to calculate room availability statistics.

I have a table which records employees'time-off records. There are 6 columns in this TimeOff table. They are RequestID, EmpName, StartDate, EndDate, Type, NumofDays. I have another table which has all the dates from 01/01/1950 to 01/01/2056.
I am trying write a query which lists all the dates between the timeoff startdate and enddate, including the the start and end dates, but my query so far only lists the start and end date in a timeoff record:

Getting Individual Dates Between 2 Dates
Mar 4, 2008Has anyone ever written a function to retrieve all individual dates between two given dates? Using DATEDIFF I can get the number of days between two dates. However I need to iterate through the days to identify weekend and holiday dates. Has anyone ever written a function to do this?
So, if select datediff(d,'07/01/2007','07/15/2007') as NumOfDays returns 14, I'd need to iterate through the 14 days and get the weekends and holidays. Would I have to use a cursor to iterate through the days?
Leap Year Dates Causing Error When You Pull Dates For Non Leap Year

I am very new to SQL and I have an issue. We have a website that has pictures on the site. We want to take them down but the pictures are somehow tied into the database, they aren't on any of the servers. How can I find these pictures that seem to be somehow hard coded into the database?

Finding The Max Value
Aug 16, 2006I have a report that is grouped by week. The details of the week have the date, time interval (half hour), and the maximum value for that day. So in the example below I am showing the week of May 21st. Then I have all of the days of that week, sorted by date as requested, with the halfhour the maximum value occured in on that day. So Monday the 22nd has the maximum value for the week at 254 (and is highlighted in red). Where the ????? are below, I need to display '1400' which is the interval, but have not yet been able to figure out how to do this.
I tried the following expression:
=iif(max(Fields!MaxValue.Value) = Fields!MaxValue.Value, Fields!Interva.Value, "X")
but this only works if the first day is the maximum value.

so I want to find the difference between Row2 Date2 and Row3 Date4I know I can loop through the rows but with 000's of clients each with x numbers of rows this will surely be very slow

Feb 2, 2008I have a form where users can enter an appointment on this form some personal details are entered. I want the users to be able to write in a textbox the users surname. they will then press a button next to the textbox that will bring up a smaller screen displaying that users details :
SELECT * FROM Members where surname = (textbox1)
Alternatively the users can click the button and bring up a screen where the users can put the surname into a textbox and then bring up the users details this way.
I am not sure how to do this or how to select from the database where a field in the database is the same as the information put in to a text.

Dept ID (int)
Section (varchar)
I need to find only occurrences of a section (eg Admin) where the section name has a record in Dept 1,2 and 3 - only return the result if the record for Admin is associated will these depts.
Example Data:
Dept Section
1 Admin
1 Finance
1 Marketing
2 Admin
2 Sales
2 Marketing
3 Admin
3 Sales
3 Finance
The query would only return 'Admin' since this is the only Section that is represented in Departments 1,2 + 3.
I am not in control of the data design and can't create a bitwise field to achieve this.

My problem is a little tricky. I am trying to get the first distinct row(s) from a table where one column will have only a few differences, while a second is unique.
Now using "distinct" doesnt help as even though distinct(column1) may return only a few rows, because the next column is unique you will still have all rows returned.
How do I return only 1 row per distinct(column1) and drop the rest? What makes this so annoying is that all columns need to be returned, but only in accordance to distinct(column1)
Finding Relationships
Sep 23, 2005Hi, sorry if this comes across as a stupid question, but i'm new to SQL. I have had a look on Google and on these forums but not found the answer..
I am running MS SQL 7 with a database containing around 130 tables.. i want to know if there is a query/command that i can type that will look through all the tables and tell me which ones reference a specified table (through it's key). Hope this makes sense! i've looked at some of the stored procedures but not found any that give me anything useful.
EDIT: Just so you are aware, i did not create this database, hence why i am not aware of the relationships myself, i have only just started working on it.
