Force Client Components Using A Commmand Line Installation To Diffrent Location
Jan 12, 2007
Is it possible to force the SLQ 2005 Client Components to be installed into a diffrent location other than the default location?
What I'm trying to do is run the setup command though the command line to create an unattended client installation with all the client componets to a diffrent location that
Thanks, Any information or examples would be great!
When running the GUI client, I chose to install the SQL Server 2005 'Client Components' on F:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server, the installation put over 700MB of files on my C: drive, but there were less than 400MB of files in the location I specified. Only about 1/2 of the files I expected were put in the location I specified. Why? How can I redirect all of the 'shared' files and other misc. development pieces to install somewhere other than my boot drive? There is no way to specify this when using the GUI, can it be done with a command line install?
I have installed successfully Microsoft SQL server 2005 in MSCS.
However the set up did not install Workstation components (client tools - SSMS etc).
I have successfully installed workstation components in one node of cluster.
However setup is giving following error while installing workstation components on other node. (From this node MS SQL server 2005 was installed).

I did "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90ToolsBinnVSShellCommon7IDESqlWb.exe, /setup".
It executed but no error, no output.
Any gues, help in isolating issue?
Any more information required.(Media is ok. Setup has been tried after reboot. There is enough disk space.)

In my SSIS project, i have to retrieve data from an oracle 10g database. On my personal laptop it works, but on our test-env i get the error below, when i try to test my connection to the oracle datasource.
Could this because i have oracle XE installed yet on my personal laptop, and it is not installed on the computer of our test environment where the SSIS runs? If that's the reason, it sounds very strange, because it would mean i have to install an oracle environment also on the computer with SSIS, just to make a connection to another oracle server...
Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. Oracle client and networking components were not found. These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or later client software installation.
Provider is unable to function until these components are installed.
I'm trying to do an unattended install of the client components for SLQ2005. I have read the document on doing a install from the command prompt but when I use the "ADDLOCAL" switches I get some components that I don't require. For example, I am using the following command to run the setup - "start /wait <path>setup.exe ADDLOCAL=Client_Components,SQL_Tools90,Connectivity". When I look at the Add/Remove Programs list I can see that it has installed "MSXML 6.0 Parser", "SQL 2005 Backward Compatibilty" and "Office 2003 Web Components". The only components I require are the "SQL Support Files", "SQL Server Native Client" and " CLient Tools". If I run "start /wait <path>setup.exe REMOVE=SQLXML,TOOLS_BC_DEP" it will remove "Office 2003 Web Components" and "SQL 2005 Backward Compatibilty" but not the "MSXML 6.0 Parser". How can I get rid of this?
I'm building a new server and am having a problem witht he SQL install. It's a Dell 2905 running Windows 2003 SP1 x64 and SQL 2005 x64. I'm able to install everything except for the Client Components, and even upgrade to SQL SP2.
I keep getting the following error:
"There was an unexpected failure during the setup wizard. You may review the setup logs and/or click the help button for more information" TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup ------------------------------ There was an unexpected failure during the setup wizard. The problem is that I can't find any solutions to this so far. Anyone recognize or have any insight into this?
When attempting to install SQL Server 2005 SP1, I receive the error, "a recently applied update, KB913090, failed to install." The Installation complete dialog shows the Client Components product Status as "Failure" with the description detail, "Unable to install Windows Installer MSP file". My Operating System is Windows Server 2003 SP1.
I am accessing a SQL2005 Express SP1 Server via TCP/IP (all machines fully up to date with windows update). For ease of configuration the Server IP is mapped to an Alias in Native Client Configuration Manager. On the Client Force Protocol Encryption is set to Yes and Trust Server Certificate is set to No. The clients are accessing the DB via SQL 2005 Management studio express and Ms Access 2003 (an access adp front end to the sql database).
As a test i turned off force encryption on the server. A Network trace shows no encryption! Turning on force encryption on the server corrects this.
As a further test I configured the server with a certificate the client doesn't trust. No error is generated by the un-trusted certificate! The only way to generate the certificate error is to enable encryption in the connection properties of each application. Why isn't the Native Client Configuration Manager utility enforcing this???
This brings me on to a second (off-topic problem). In my access adp file, if I enable €œuse encryption for data€? advanced option under the database connection dialog all works as expected (encryption + certificate verification). However, I am programmatically updating the connection in VBA
Application.CurrentProject.OpenConnection "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Data Source=AliasName;Use Encryption for Data=True;..."
If I do this no encryption is enabled!!! Access seems to just ignore the encryption statement.
Has anybody got any ideas as to why either of these issues are occurring or if there are any workarounds?
When the battery dies the SQL Ce installation vanishes. Especially the following dlls which were copied into the Windows directory during installation are getting vanished when the battery dies.
I guess this is because of the fact that RAM content vanishes when the power goes off.
Is there a way i could install the SQL CE in the Storage Card?
I can install the Compact Framework in the Storage Card but not the SQL CE.
I have installed the CF, My application in the Storage Card. Just because of this SQL CE does not allow me to choose the installation directory, i have to install the SQL CE everytime the battery dies out.

Hello
Assume that you have SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition installed but only the Database Services and you patched it with SP2. Now assume that you need to install all the other components like Notification Services and Reporting Services, what are the correct steps to follow?
I tried this once this failed miserably and ended up in completely having to uninstall SQL Server 2005 and completely reinstalling it. Luckily for me this was a demo machine.
Is it possible to set the log file location during installation? I don't see an option under Advanced. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I have Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack2.

This situation, I am guessing, also preventing me to run import/export from the SQLServer Client.
I was trying to install the Developer Edition of 2005 last night, and ran into a strange issue. I specified F:SQLDev as the installation directory, but the installer still refused to install claiming lack of disk space. Checking the disk cost, I saw that it was still asking for about 1.5 GB on my C: drive. I double checked, and I did specify the installation directory as F:SQLDev.
Is there documentation somewhere that describes why it would require space on the boot drive? Or am I missing a switch somewhere or something?
I am relatively new to VB 2005 and SQL Express. I have a question concerning where I can find the SQL-database file (*.mdf) after I have installed (published) my VB 2005 database-application (the *.mdf file was created by Visual Studio Express?). It seems it is nowhere in the disk of the of pc it is installed on. So, what happens to *.mdf file after installation of the application, in what way I can connect to the *.mdf file after the application - the file is part of - is published?
I am using SQL Server configuration indirectly with the connection to it configured in an XML configuration file with the location of the XML file and the connections all being different between development and production. I deploy to the file system using the SSIS Deployment Manifest/Package Installation Wizard.
It seems that sometimes the path to the XML config file is updated in the deployed packages and sometimes it is not.
When the path is updated, all connection strings (as displayed in the Connection Managers section of the Execute Package Utility) are displaying the new values as well.
When it is not, it looks for the XML file in the development location and since it cannot find it all configurations still point to the development connections.
Does anyone know of any conditions when the location of the XML config does not get updated and when it doesn't?
I have downloaded Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Evaluation Edition ISO from the following site and burned it onto a DVD. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=6931FA7F-C094-49A2-A050-2D07993566EC&displaylang=en
Prior to this I have installed Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edtion. During setup I have selected all the native client components i.e. Management Studio, Business Intelligense Studio. But after the install I am not able to see them under All Programs-> Microsoft SQL Server 2005. On further searching I have come across this link
First of all, there is no sqlrun_tools.msi under setup folder of the dvd. And also when I tried to change component from Add/Remove programs and following the instructions as specified on clicking Change Installed components all that I see are: Connectivity Components and Software Development kit.
Could someone tell me how can I install Management Studio/ Business Intelligence Studio seperately? I don't want to go through the process of re-installation.
I'm trying to install the Eval copy of SQL Server 2005 on a Win2k Server computer. The error message that

When adding a node to a SQL Server 2012 Standard edition cluster, how I do I identify the location for SQL server shared components and the rest of the SQL Server installation binaries?
When adding a node to a SQL Server 2012 Standard edition cluster all the binaries went to the C: drive default location. We put those files on a different drive when installing the first node. What needs to be done so both nodes have the binaries on the same drives and folders?
Hi all, Yesterday, I just downloaded the SQL Server 2005 Express (SQLEXPR.EXE) and tried to install it in my Windows XP Pro PC that is on Microsoft NT 4 LAN System. I got the following error: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 CTP setup The Microfost .NET Framework 2.0 is not installed. Please install before running setup. This morning, I downloaded the NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package Beta 2 (x86) from the Microsoft Download Center and installed it in my Windows XP Pro PC. Then I tried to install the SQL Server 2005 Express (SQLEXPR.EXE) again. This time I got a new error: SQL Server 2005 Setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio, .NET Framework, or SQL Server 2005. Use ADD or Remove Programs to remove these components, and then run SQL Server 2005 Setup again. I am confused and lost in this installation problem. Was the .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package Beta 2 (x86) a wrong Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 I downloaded and installed in my PC? Where is the right Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 for the SQL Server 2005 Express? Please help and advise. Thanks in advance, Scott Chang
I had SQLServer 7 installed when my machine (using Windows 98)was hit by a virus. This necessitated running the original setup disk. When I did this, I found a number of existing files had been deleted (history files for a credit card program, Windows dial-up connections ) including some needed for the SQLServer. I eventually uninstalled SQLServer and attempted to reinstall it. When I do, I get a message saying that this disk can only install the client version. I originally installed it from this disk so why can't I install it again?
When installing the RTM version of SQL Server 7.0 it only lets me install the client tools. It will not let me install the Enterprise edition or Standard edition. Has anyone else run into this problem.
Can I installed Enterprise Manager from my workstation PC or any ways to remotely access the Enterprise Manager(SQL Server 7.0) at the server end and other utilities. I have installed the client network utility but do not know how to configure.
I've installed SQL SERVER 7.0(Standard version with 5 clients)on the WINNT 4.0 server.
Anyone knows where to source out for SQLSERVER7.0 RESOURCE KIT?
Hi! Is there a separate set of files in the installation CD of MS SQL Server 7 which can be used to install a SQL Server Client installation? Thanks in advance! Bye!
