How Configure 2 Report Server To Use Same Reportservertempdb Database
Mar 10, 2008
Hi
There are some complex reports in my report server, so I want use scheduled snapshot to improve the performance. But I don't want the generation of snapshot effect other report. Is it possible I create another report server, and use the same reportservertempdb database but the reportserver database is different. Then I can configure the second server create the snapshot automatically. In other words, I want to configure 2 report server share the same snapshot or cache. Is it possible?
And another question is if I can configure the parameter value which will be used in snapshot generation.
I need to shrink database of reportserverTempdb since this db takes i.e MDF file has 6.11 GB and LDF file has 35.GB. When i take backup of this db it is getting created more than 23 GB.
When I opened "Reporting Service Configuration Manger" from SQL server configuration tool list, The "Report Server Installation Instance window came out. It showed my local machine name on the field of Machine Name. When I click "Find" button, a message box came out. It says: "No report server were found on the specified machine. Details: Invalid namespace
I'm having problem with initialization tab on Configure Report Server
All tabs are checked and green , but when I click initialize I got this error:
ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.WMIProviderException: The report server installation is not initialized. (rsReportServerNotActivated) at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.ThrowOnError(ManagementBaseObject mo) at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.InitializeReportServer(String installationId)
I am trying to get started with Reporting Services, and I am trying to configure the report server on my local computer running vista and sql server 2005.
I am trying to configure according to the following instructions:
But I got stuck on the step 11 to 13, I get the following error when I click on Apply (STEP 13)
ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.WMIProviderException: An unknown error has occurred in the WMI Provider. Error Code 800708AC
at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.SetWebServiceIdentity(String applicationPool)
do I need to create a user for the reporting services or can I use my own user, which has admin rights on my laptop? Do I need to to do anything before I follow the instruction from http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa545752.aspx ?
I also need to know how to delete the dabatases I ended up creating using Reporting Services Configuration Manager.
I'm trying to set up SharePoint Integration for our report server. The setup we have is: 1. SQL server hosting the SharePoint databases and the Reporting Server, 2. SharePoint web front end hosting all SharePoint services. I've installed the reporting services SP2 on the SQL server and the reporting services add-in on the SharePoint server.
I configured the report server following the directions here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/d/c/fdcb3a53-0cb1-4e67-a1b6-45b89b3c59cf/readme_rsaddin.htm and here: http://www.sharepointblogs.com/helloitsliam/archive/2007/02/21/19801.aspx
Everything seems to be set up correctly, but when I open the Reporting Services Configuration Manager, the SharePoint Integration option shows the error, "The report server cannot access setting in the SharePoint configuration database. Most likely, the Windows SharePoint Services object model...."
I do have WSS 3.0 installed on the report server.
When I look in the logs on the report server it says the login failed for the account I have set as the Windows Service Identity however, when I look at the logs on the SharePoint server it shows that it is granting the account read and write access to each of the SPWebApplications I have set up.
When I opened "Reporting Service Configuration Manger" from SQL server configuration tool list, The "Report Server Installation Instance window came out. It showed my local machine name on the field of Machine Name. When I click "Find" button, a message box came out. It says: "No report server were found on the specified machine. I'm having a world of trouble with the Reporting Services Server. The install went fine. I went in to configure the Report Server and when creating the Report Server and the Report Manager virtual directories I get the following error: "The virtual directory could not be created. The previously set virtual directory will still be used." The problem with this is that I have not previously set a virtual directory. When clicking on the link I get the additional error information: "System.IO.FileNotFoundException: at System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ThrowExceptionForHRInternal(Int32 errorCode, IntPtr errorInfo) at System.Management.ManagementObject.InvokeMethod(String methodName, ManagementBaseObject inParameters, InvokeMethodOptions options) at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.CreateVirtualDirectory(String virtualDirectory, String path)"
When I check IIS the directories were created but the Reporting Services Configuration Manager does not see them unless I attempt to recreate them again without deleting them from IIS.
I have SQl Server 2005 installed in local computer. I am planning to create report by Report Service so a report server is needed by which I can deploy report from my local computer to that server. How to intall the report server in another computer/
I am attempting to insert information from Visual Web Developer 2005 using either the Gridview or Datalist controls into a SQL Server 2005 database and get stuck when defining the custom statement. When I enter the text within the insert tab, the <next> button remains greyed out, preventing me from continuing to the next page.If I copy the same text into the select tab, then I can continue with the wizard, however this raises other problems which may or may not be related (multiple insertions of the data into the SQL Server database table - possibly due to postback functions). I would rather use insert to confirm that my second problem is not because I am using the wrong option. My question is:Should I be able to use the insert function within VWD express or is this only available within the standard/pro editions?
Hi My project is in .NET 2003 i.e. framework 1.1 and database in SQLServer 2000. But the reports have been developed using SQLServer 2005 Reporting Services. Now when I am trying to deploy them through deployment project of .NET its giving me following error:"Using other editions of SQL Server for report data sources and/or the report server database" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services. Now I am really confused with this. Can any one please guide me regarding this ASAP. Thanks, Falguni
I'm very new new at this. I'm try to deploy a report model and got this message. I have no idea what its going on about.
Can anyone help me?

every 1 hour my server's computer is restarting ! when the windows finish restarting i open the Event viewer and see that what coused it is the error :
"Report Server Windows Service (MSSQLSERVER) cannot connect to the report server database." Event 107 source : "Report Server Windows Service (MSSQLSERVER)"
I would like to know if it is possible to have different applications on separate report servers sharing one report server database. If so are there possible issues or ptfalls to this type of architecture?
Hi all, SQL 2005 Report server TempDB log file size is 5GB.How can I clear/Delete the log file.I am using win2003 with service pack 1. Here little info about my SQL server.

What are the precautions I need to take.Sorry I am not a DBA.Please advice. Thanks in advance
I have a db server that had served both my application data and reporting services. I have since installed a second db server to be the reporting services server; the primary box still stores the application data. I am keeping reporting services installed and set up on the primary box, since I would like it to act as a warm standby for the reporting services function.
However, the ReportServerTempDB on my primary box is still quite large. The ChunkData table is quite close to 10 gig. The CleanupCycleMinutes property is set to the default of 10. Clearly any data that might be in this table is far older than that.
Is there some recommended method of clearing this data? Can I just delete the rows or do a truncate on the table? I would prefer not to uninstall/reinstall reporting services, as this machine is actively serving my application data.
The ReportServerTempDB.mdf file is getting bigger and I have limited space on disk; is there any way to clear or reduce the size of the ReportServerTempDB.mdf and ReportServerTempDB_log.LDF files. Thanks.
We encounter the problem, that a reportservertempdb grows extremly large... the sessiondata and snapshotdata tables are about 10gb each at the moment and keep growing and growing... The CleanupCycleMinutes Configuration is set to default=10. We are not taking snapshots of our reports. Shouldnt those tables be cleaned up every 10minutes with this setting?
What can we do to stop this database growing? is truncating those tables on a weekly base a solution? We are using SQL Server Reporting Services 2005 SP2 with Cumulative Hotfix Package 5 (Build 3215).
Is it possible to cleanup ReportServer DB and ReportServerTempDB by setting the time interval ? For example, I want data in these two dbs to be deleted automatically after 5 or 10 minutes. How can I do that because as new reports are added and executed data goes on increasing in very short time and hurts performance.
My ReportServerTempDB is full regularly .I had to shirink the database on regular interval though i schedule for shirinking on 30 minutes. But as soon there is any exception due to scripting the log is full and my all report manaer throws error. After shirinking the ReportServerTempDB the reports starts working fine.
As we have heavy reports.and due to large space occupied by reportservertempdb.ldf we have to manually detach the ldf every time in few days..how can i programitically minimize the space generating in reportservertempdb.ldf..
Give me some tips that i sud take care of for this issue..
I went to my comp ->rt cick->manage-IIS->default website->rt click->properties->directory security->annoymouse access€¦EDIT->under Default domain it was blank, and i added a domain there.
And i was getting error opening up the reports from localhost.
I changed everything to same as it was previosly, and I am getting the error:
The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the database is required for all requests and processing. (rsReportServerDatabaseUnavailable) (rsRPCError) Get Online Help
Cannot open database "ReportServer$SQLExpress" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'NGESComputer name$'.
I'm using SQL Express with Advance Services & I get this error when I try to deploy my reports. Why do I get this error

I am newbie and working with an application that ueses report server 2000 to make reports.
The problem is somebody has moved the database and changed some acounts and now I can not either get any report from the server or install my changes for reports. I used to run this commando to install changes for reports:
here is the error message i get when i try to install:
System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. The logon failed
when I browse to http://IpAddress:32808/reportserver I get following:
The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. The logon failed. (rsReportServerDatabaseLogonFailed) Get Online Help
Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.
at IIS Manager for default web site Enable Anonymous Access is checked and on the database server and the web.config file use same account and password.
but I heard that somewhere there is encrypted password that i have to change it too.

The error happens on Reporting Service version 9.00.3017.00 (the version we are running in Production). The Reporting Service and its database are actually resided in the same physical server. And the strange thing is that it does not prevent any functionalities or features working except when I launch the Management Studio on that server, it usually takes 2 minutes to load up. (any other server would just take 5 -10 seconds).
I am running SQL Reporting Services and SQL Server 2005 on a Windows 2003 server. The configuration has been unchanged for approx. 3 weeks. Suddenly today, reports being accessed via an ASP.NET 2.0 application (on Windows 2003 Server with IIS 6) using a SOAP call to the reportserver became inaccessable. End users received the following error:

Subsequently, the following error is logged on the Report Server/Database server:
Report Server (MSSQLSERVER) cannot connect to the report server database.
I was able to temporarily correct the problem by performing as iisrest on the Report Server/Database server. However, the same problem occured again a couple hours later. I am relatively new to SQL Reporting Services so any help would be appreciated.
I am getting the following error, when trying to deploy. the report should point to a server which is in my network, but the report is on my machine. where i am trying to deploy locally but point to a different machine.
