While developing the packages in our developers environment the packages should be stored in file system. Once after the completion of the development, while moving these packages to upstream environments the packages should be deployed to sql server. Is this scenario possible? If possible, can anybody give me some tips for how to do that.
Basically It is like the developers make their changes in the file system packages (internally versions are mainintained by source control). After the completion of the development whenever we do a build and deploy to the upstream systems we should move the packages from file system to sql server database. There is a scheduler in sql server which is responsible for executing these packages.
Can anybody give me some examples?
Another question.
Assume that in the developers environment there is a central sql server database which is storing all the packages in MSDB database. Suppose at a time 2 developers are making modification to a single package. How it behaves? Is parallel developemnt supported in SSIS?
Hi all, I have some problem when deploy ssis packages to sql server
In the deployment wizard, I follow the wizard steps to deploy my ssis packages to sql server that choose deploy to sql server and unchecked (Rely on server storage for encryption) and then following the step to finished. After that, I select data from msdb(sysdtspackages90) in column packagedata has been encrypt. But i don't want to encrypt this package
I have 9 Dimensions and 16 Fact Packages in my SSIS Project. All these 25 packages uses one source (SQLServer A - staging) and a seperate destination (SQlServer B - Warehouse) . I have completed my development. Now i want to move these packages to production environment. I have a Parent package to control all these facts and Dimensions.
1. Should I always change the Protection level of the Package to "DontSaveSensitive" before moving to some other machine where it has to run under a different user?
2. Which is the best way to follow for configuring the connection strings in my development? Having a variable for each connection string @ parent project level and pass it to child packages or Configure the connection strings directly in a XML config file for one package and in all my other packages i have to say the package to Reuse the existing config file as the source and dest is same for all these packages?
And am hearing one more buzz word "Proxies for running SSIS packages". Any information on this also will help me.
Most of the time my solutions consist of 1 or 2 packages and config files work well.
Now i have a solution with about 50 packages i have to move to QA.
However a config file has the package ID, so even thoug they use the same data source connection. I would have to create and change 50 config files.
Data sources are kept in the package xml , so if i copy all the packages to QA , and then change the Global Data Source connection, i still have to open each package maually and save it again.
Surely there must be an easy way to move all 50 packages and have the connection now point to QA. But config files and global data sources dont do the trick, what am i missing here ?
In all packages they make connections to a SQL 2005 db which sits on the same instance as which the packages are being deployed. In the Child packages these connections have the connection string set as a package property variable in Package configs and in the Parent package this variable exists correctly. This variable in the Parent is itself defined in a PackageConfig which uses SQL Server as the holder for the configuration.
When I deploy the packages the connections to in the child packages fail, one connection by timing out, another with an acquire connection failure.
I have set the DelayValidation to false on all connections but it made no difference. I have also increased the timeout to 180s but again still a failure. When I deploy the parent package on its own it is successful, however when the child packages are deployed on their own these connections again fail to validate due to a timeout and connection failure, yet they are using the same connections defined in the parent.
The child packages are no larger than other single packags that I have deployed successfully with the same connection to the same server.
Is there anything special that I should be aware of regarding deployment of parent and child packages.
In SSIS you can create subfolders in the MSDB folder. However, when deploying a SSIS solution to the server, it seems you cannot specify a subfolder. When selecting MSDB as the target, all packages in the solution end up directly underneath the MSDB folder.
I'm deploying the packages to SQL Server using the deployment utility. It goes through. However i wish to organize the packges into folders on the SSIS Server -> MSDB.
I'm able to create folder under the MSDB node. By default "Maintenance Plans" exists. But while deploying the package to the server i'm unable to specify the folder into which the package to be deployed.
Is this a known gap in the deployment wizard or am i missing something?
As we know Sql Server 2005 provides its ability to deploy clr assembly on it. However my problem is that my assembly has a configuration file. I used ConfigurationManager.GetSection to create some of the object. When I am deploying the project the trouble is that the app.config is missing. I used a class lib project type to create the assembly. Besides changing a storing method, can I still use this config file to reach my goal? Sqlserver.exe.config is not a good idea and it is not workable. The sqlserverexe host cannot find the assembly files.
Hi, when deploying assembly from VS into SQL Server 2005, deployment fails with these error messages:
Msg 0, Level 11, State 0, Line 0 A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded. Msg 0, Level 20, State 0, Line 0 A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.
I'm deploying assembly with UNSAFE permission setting. What's wrong, please?
Today, I download SQL Server 2005 Business Intelligence Metadata Samples Toolkit from Microsoft download center, per readme.txt instructions, build the project, but there was an error as below:
Error 1 The project could not be deployed to the 'localhost' server because of the following connectivity problems : A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running. To verify or update the name of the target server, right-click on the project in Solution Explorer, select Project Properties, click on the Deployment tab, and then enter the name of the server. 0 0
After then, I just build the project, but didn't deploy it, then I try to launch DependencyAnalyzer console application, there was also an there:
Error occurred: A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running.
How do you tranfer data between two SQL Server 2005 databases???? I swear I looked all over the place, but I don't see how it is done in SQL Server 2005.
---------------------- MS Win XP Pro 2002 SP2 MS SQL Server 2005 MS Visual Studio 2005 ----------------------
Can anyone help me (even by pointing me to a documentation) in order to schedule Packages (from file system source) in SQL Server 2005.
I've configured providers logging, but still the error file doesn't give me any explanation why the error happens: "#Fields: event, computer, operator, source, sourceid, executionid, starttime, endtime, datacode, databytes, message OnPreValidate,PC1234,NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM,D_AGR,{8A4FA774-F5F0-40DE-AB16-A93F27950E09},{8A918844-8E43-403D-A606-C8CB4B7D8238},31/08/2006 16:42:55,31/08/2006 16:42:55,0,0x,(null)"
I've also done the same on the Step properties under 'Logging'
In Management Studio I've added my login name and I'm the only user using the machine and I manage both Visual Studio and Management Studio
The error coming up on the job history is as follow: "Executed as user: PC1234SYSTEM. The package execution failed. The step failed." "The job failed. The Job was invoked by User UK1USER123. The last step to run was step 1 (step1)."
By the way the package (.dtsx) runs fine in BI Visual Studio)
I installed SP2 to one of our servers to see what we'd need to do for our Production systems. The server in question is used for a log shipped copy of production, SSRS, SSIS and general duty stuff. I got errors in two areas during the installation -- 1 dealing with SSNS (don't use it yet on that server) and the second being the Client product.
After a reboot I went into a Business Studio solution I've been working on (and using) for several months. None of my packages are working--each having the following problem:
Unable to cast COM object of type 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper.PackageNeutralClass' to interface type 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper.IDTSContainer90'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '{8BDFE892-E9D8-4D23-9739-DA807BCDC2AC}' failed due to the following error: Library not registered. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8002801D (TYPE_E_LIBNOTREGISTERED))..
It seems to be in the designer as it is unable to display the the graphical version but it does let me switch to the code view.
What is the easiest way to troubleshoot and/or fix this?
How can deploy Reporting Service 2005 runtime with VisualStudio 2005? The reason here goes...
I have completed my project in VS2005. Now I am trying to make package. But here, i do not know how to deploy Reporting Service (My Report files) to Customer's Server with Setup or any other runtime solution. thanks

We are converted our DTS 2000 packages to Sql Server 2005 SSIS. I am getting following error on my ActiveX script that got converted. I am new to SSIS and DTS. Never ever worked with ActiveX also. So any help would be appreciated. Following is the script followed by error I get:
My home machine has sql 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 installed. I uninstalled VS 2005 (RTM) and installed VS 2008 (RTM) in its place. I then found that the SSIS templates were missing. Lesson: don't uninstall VS 2005 if you want to use SSIS 2005!
1. Is there any "workaround" to this issue?
2. (If the answer to 1 is "No") I will install VS 2008 side-by-side with VS 2005 on the same box. When the SSIS issue is finally resolved, can I uninstall VS 2005 without doing damage to the VS 2008 install?
I believe I have made a complete install of Sql Server 2005 on my dev. machine, including all client tools, and can run SSIS packages from the dev. environment.
However DtExec refuses to run any package and always throws the "insufficient version" error (as does the "RunPackage" component, probably for the same reason).
I have repeatedly attempted to find something more to install from the Sql Server 2005 eval release that will allow DTExec to run without the "insufficient version" error, but can find nothing else to install from the eval. The install wizard (and the "change" wizard) indicates everything is installed and will not build a list of any additional components to install.
Are we sure that DtExec will install and run from a sql server 2005 eval distribution?
Licenses are in the pipeline (not that pipleine) but we need to start testing our SSIS solution in the meantime.
p.s. Kudos to the dev. team, it really is an excellent tool!
We manage some SSIS servers, which has only SSIS and SSIS tools installed on them and not the sql server DB.
SSIS packages and configuration files are deployed on a NAS. We run the SSIS packages through DTEXEC by logging in to the server.
We want to allow developers to run their packages on their own on the server, but at the same time we dont want to give them physical access on the server i.e we do not want to add them into RDP users list on server properties. We want them to allow running their packages remotely on the server.
One way We could think of is by using powershell remoting and we are working on that. But is there any other way or any tool already present for the same.
Am getting errors trying to deploy a dtsx created by ms (the reporting services execution log one) to which I have made zero changes, but it is not working (2 errors shown below)
error from deployment wizard: ===================================

Hi all, I have a problem while i create a proxy account. The situation is like this...There is a user who has an login in to the server. He has a stored procedure which calls some on the SSIS packages and XP_cmdshell...so this stored procedure basically load some data in to the tables .So for the login in order to execute the stored procedure as he is not a Sys admin I have created a proxy account in my account as Iam an SA and then in the proxies and in principals I selected his login name and this way I have created a credential and a proxy account.
Now the problem is if he logins with his id and password and try to execute the stored procedure it gives an error message
Server: Msg 15153, Level 16, State 1, Procedure xp_cmdshell, Line 1 The xp_cmdshell proxy account information cannot be retrieved or is invalid. Verify that the '##xp_cmdshell_proxy_account##' credential exists and contains valid information.
....so this mean the login is not able to see the proxy account. So what I did is I created a job and then in the job owner tab I have selected his login and then created a step with the type operating system (CmdExec) as I need to just execute the stored procedure and used the proxy account that I have created.
so I gave the command -- exec <stored procedure> --. But this job fails and gives the error message as [298] SQLServer Error: 536, Invalid length parameter passed to the SUBSTRING function. [SQLSTATE 42000]....
So now ....first My question is am I doing in a right way....if its right then why Iam not able to execute the stored procedure.
If there is any other way through which I can execute the stored procedure using a proxy account for the logins who are not sys admins....please do let me know.....
hi, I have developed my database on express edition of 2005 .Now I need to deploy this database which contains storedprocedure .will u give me some link for some help. I donot know from where to start. And I also want to change the Authentication mode from windows to MIX mode for sa user ....or whatever the username is given by the hoster....
i'm building apps using sql server express and I want to deploy to servers that have the 2.0 .net framework but have sql server 2000 database.
Can this be done, and if so, how? Observing God€™s Holy Spirit, I see God saying that The Lord Jesus influences every natural occurrence of kindness, righteousness, and judgment (Jeremiah 9:23-24). I believe God, so I thank The Lord Jesus for your grace in these matters.
When I try to put a new report in existing folder there's no problem, but now i have fresh installed Reporting Services and no Visual Studio2005. How do i open a new folder?
This seems to be a basic issue, but I am having a problem trying to deploy a report to Reporting Services.
I have setup the deployment options under the properties of the Project. But each time I try to deploy a report, I get "The request failed with HTTP status 504: Gateway Time-out"
When I try to connect to connect directly to the TargetServerURL via a web browser from my client or the server itself, I can browse the structure fine. Not sure why I can't deploy via Visual Studio.
