How To Install Management Studio Express 2005 After VS2008 On Server 2008?

Ok so here's what happened:
Installed Server 2008 (64bit)
Installed VS2008 (+SQL 2005 Express, by default)
I've always installed SQL 2005 Dev (including the SQL Management Studio) before installing VS. Now I am trying to install just the management studio on this machine without success.
I tried installing the SQL workstation tools package from the SQL 2005 DVD but the installer detects the tools installed by SQL express (osql, etc.., but no management studio GUI) and the installer refuses to install anything else. I also tried downloading the separate installer for SQL management studio but it doesn't like something also: first thing the installer does is display this mesage:
"Installation of this product failed because it is not supported on this operating system For more information on supported configurations, see the product documentation."
Any way to do this without having to reinstall VS?
(1) I have already installed of SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition first.
(1) Can I install visual studio 2008 without the 2005 express edition of SQL server? Will be any problems because I don't have express edition of SQL server? Do I need to install the express edition of SQL server as well?
(3) How to use SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition instance on visual studio 2008?
im having problem installing SSMSE on my computer..i already installed SQL Server 2005 express 86x on my computer..and i need to install SSMSE..but i keeps on telling me that the installation package is not supported by my processor..and i should contact my product vendor..i really need help because ill be using this for my thesis
I'm trying to upgrade my management studio to the full version, I uninstalled Express edition and started the install for the full version, but I get an error stating "you cannot install this component because it is already installed". I had a word with one of the guys in the office and he said the only way he's ever been able to get round this is by flattening the entire PC and starting again. Obviously I want to avoid that!
I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 using command prompt. I have gotten the latest download. My question is what is the commad prompt for the tag ADDLOCAL for SQL Server Management Studio Express. For SQL Server datatbase it is called SQL_Engine. In the same way what should I be using for "SQL Server Management Studio Express". I want to limit the choices that are installed on the user machines.
I downloaded and performed a full install of SQL Server Express 2008 Nov CTP. It was installed on a fresh installation of Windows Vista Enterprise x64.
During setup, I checked the 'Client Tools' box which has the description: "Includes management and development tools: SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Server Configuration Manager, SQL Server Profiler, and Database Engine Tuning Advisor"
The installation ran fine with no errors. After install I looked for the Management Studio but couldnt find it anywhere. No SQL Server Profiler or Database Tuning Advisor either. The only tool that appears to have installed is the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
If I check my Start Menu, the only 2008 items that exist are Microsoft SQL Server 2008 >

I have several servers that do not have SSMS installed. A couple of them are running as a clustered server. How do I install SSMS on these servers? they are running and have production databases on them. I have tried re-installing the management tools but that didn't work.
In my VB 2005 Express, I created a Windowds Form application "shcDataSet" that used 1 SqlConnection, 1 SqlDataSet and 3 SqlDataAdapters associated with the Northwind Database in my SQL Server Management Studio Express. The SqlConnection had "User Instance" in the following ConnectionString: Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename="C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataorthwnd.mdf";Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True. The 3 SqlDataAdapters were for the Northwind files "Customers", "Orders" and "Order Details" used in the SQLDataSet "AllOrders" with a AllOrders.xsd file. I ran the "shcDataSet" applicatyion and it worked fine. After the execution of "shcDataSet", I checked the Northwind database in my SQL Server Management Studio Express and clicked on "+" in front of Northwind database-I did not see any file showed up and I got the following error message: Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.SmoEnum) Additional information: one or more files do not match the primary file of the database. If you are attempting to attach a database, retry the operation with the correct files. If this is an existing database, the file may be corrupted and should be restored from a backup. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error:5173). If I executed the "shcDataSet" application again, I got a new error: SqlException was unhandled - Cannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'myPC##myName' ------->daCustomers.Fill(AllOrders11, "Customers"). I have 3 questions to ask: (1) How can I re-install the Northwind database in SQL Server Management Studio Express? (2) When I use the .Fill Method, do I have to tell the SQL Server Management Studio Express to load and/or unload the Northwind files "Customers", "Orders" and "Order Details"? (3) After I executed the "shcDataSet", should I Upload the 3 Northwind files back to the SQL Server Management Studio Express? Please help and advise. Thanks, Scott Chang
I just upgraded my Sql Server to 2008 and I was hoping that the link found in this page would provide the download to SSMSE for Sql Server 2008, but it redirects me to 2005 version. I don't any instances running with Sql Server 2005 that I could access through SSMSE 2005, so I can't use it. Does anyone have the link for download to SSMSE 2008? Or should I downgrade? And if, how can I downgrade? Thank you very much, sorry by my misspellings.
I just installed SQL Server 2005 64bit on a fresh system with no other applications loaded on running on the new server.
The only other component that was installed with the SS2K5 database services is SSIS. The base installation and the SP2 patch went on perfect.
I went looking for the Management Studio thru the Start menu options and it is NOT under the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 group. The only options under the SS2K5 group are "Configuration Tools" and "Docs and Tutorials".
Here are file names that I downloaded from the MS website and installed.

Hello I have wasted several hours on this simple problem and I'm ready to give up. I simply want SQL Server Management Studio on my laptop so I can connect to our 2005 servers and manage them. I have several different versions of 2005 from our MSDN subscription including but not limited to:
SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition (MSDN Library DVD) SQL 2005 Workgroup Edition SQL 2005 Standard Edition Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server (SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition)
Everytime I tried to install it, the Server Management Studio simply would not install. I looked for the exe files and didn't find them. I verified the path several times and they simply didn't install. I googled and found a few solutoins but none helped. They stated to go to the 'Tools' folder on the CD and run it from there, I do not have these folders on my SQL 2005 CD/DVDs. I tried to reinstall it a few times with selection only the management tools for the client, but it thinks I have SQL 2005 installed!!! I uninstalled it from add/remove, and it didn't work. I deleted the folders and it didn't work. I ran
msicuu2.exe and that still isn't working.
Are there ANY suggestions on how to get this freaking Server Management Studio installed? MS really blew it on this one. Thanks in advance.

I'm very confused. I installed Visual Studio 2005 and thought I understood that SQL Server 2005 came with it, but it appears that it's SQL Server 2005 - Express. Can anyone tell me what I need to do in order to get Data Transformation Services loaded or the equivalent of DTS in SQL Express?
For the first time, I want to set up the configuration of my SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE) to allow me in doing the non-User-Instance/ADO.NET 2.0 programming from my VB 2005 Express. The SSMSE and VB 2005 Express are in my Windows XP Pro PC that is part of our NT 4 LAN System in our office. I have the following questions on the page of "Minimize SQL Server 2005 Surface Area": (1) I saw "Configure Surface Area for localhost [change computer]". I clicked on [change computer] and I saw the following: Select Computer The Surface Area Configuration of this surface area of this computer or a remote computer. Specify a computer to configure: O Local computer O Remote computer Should I choose the "Local computer" or the "Remote computer" option? I've seen the following error posted when people try to connect to their server via their applications but didn't see anyone having problems when trying to connect with SQL Server Management Studio Express. Am I missing something here? This is the error:<<An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)(Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2)>>The server is not remote so I don't see why I need to enable remote connection. I am also using the default connection settings.
On my home machine without permanent network connections enabled, I cannot get the Management Studio connect to the database server. Always get this error:

I have used the SQL Surface Area Configuration Tool to reset the defaults to allow remote connections, stopped and restarted the server, but still get the same message.
I have installed Visual Studio 2005 Prof Edition on a Vista machine and SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on a Windows 2000 server. They will be used as a development environment for us. As we need to management the SQL Server 2005, we would like to install the 2005 Developer SSMS on the Vista machine such that we can manage the SQL Server 2005 developer instance installed on that Win2k machine. However, the system does not allow us to do it. We have the express edition autoamtically installed while we installed the Vistual Studio. Is there any workaround that i can still install the 2005 developer SSMS without uninstall the sql server 2005 Xpress version? Or, I have to uninstall the Xpress version before i can install the 2005 developer's SSMS? Please help!
In the last one and half years, I used the Northwind Database in SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE) to learn the programming of SqlConnections, Data sources, Database Exploere, ADO.NET 2.0, etc. via VB 2005 Express.
The Northwind Database in my SSMSE got lost very often, but I was not aware of it. How can I know where the Northwind Database is used or processed by my VB 2005 Express projects that were the examples of some tutorial books or my trial projects? How can I release the Northwind Database back to my SSMSE from the VB 2005 Express projects? Please help and advise.
I have full version of SQL server 2005 installed on my machine.
I am now also trying to install express edition as well. Though the database engine got installed, the managment studio *express* does not get installed as the management studio of full version is already installed. Can I use the management studio of full version to access this express edition database engine. If so how ?
Every time I try to remove 'condensed type' from the custom table view (working in database diagrams) the MSE crashes on me, as soon as I push the < button to remove it from the list of columns.
Is there a forum or place to post such a bug, or someone to send full details to? When it dies, it doesn't give me an option to send the information to MS.
I have installed SQL 2005 Express Management Studio several times and It fails to completely install. I get a message that SQL Server Express 2005 x84 did not install properly. I tried to uninstall it and reinstall it but I get the same problem. My Visual Web 2005 Express Edition and Visual Basic 2005 Express gives an error when I try to add a new database. The error is: "Failed to generate instance of SQL server due to a failure copying database files. The connection will be closed. Does anyone know what I can do to resolve this? My computer system meets the hardware requirements.
I am trying to install SQL Server Management Studio Express(SSMSE) on Windows XP SP2. But installtion does not get completed. It goes unto last step in the installation and then rollback itself. At the lat screen it displayes the message that "SQL Server Management Studio Express installation could not be completed as it was intreupted". Though I did not do any thing? Hello,I've installed SQL Server Managment Studio Express 2005 in my laptop and I already have Visual Studio 2005 Express in my system. The problem I m facing is that when I open the SQL Management Studio so it is not logging in using both the Windows Authentication method nor the SQL Authentication, I've Windows XP Professional in my system and I've set No Password on Windows. I'm trying to open a SQL Express database (MDF) with SQL Server 2005 management Studio. Is that possible? I'm getting the following error: The specified file is either not a SQL Server Compact Edition file or is corrupt. It opens fine in Visual Studio 2005. I installed VS 2008 Express with an option to download SQL Server 2005 Express. I noticed there is a '90' folder under my Microsoft SQL Server folder. I assumed this the folder for SQL Server 2005 Express. How do I set up my SQL Server2005 Express, so that I can use some sample databases for my VS 2008 Express? Any difference for SQL Server 2005 Express between VS 2008 Expressdownload and SQL Server 2005 Express download? TIA,Jeffrey
